Galaxy Tab 8.9 "Topical" Accessory Compatablility for All Models - Galaxy Tab 8.9 Accessories

This is a question about "topical" accessories for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 series of tablets.
I personally have the SGH-i957 from AT&T and I know that the processor is different than other models, so the rooting methods, kernel, roms, etc. are all different. Obviously the screen sizes are the same, but how about the device "body" size as far as thickness and corner roundness/squareness? Are the cases and screen protectors universally compatible with each other or are they all different sizes too?

As far as I know it is the same. I bought a case designed for the old tab 8.9 and it works fine.

Ok...thanks. I am still trying to keep it all strait so that I don't get/do the wrong thing for the wrong device.

Ended up going back to AT&T to see what they had. I bought the Belkin Verve Folio Stand case and the BodyGuardz screen protector.
The case is very nice and the tablet fits snug inside. There are several viewing angles available depending on your relationship to the tablet. The think I like about this one too is that it is just a smooth vinyl and not "pleather". I really dislike things that try to look like leather but are not! =)
BodyGuardz screen went on pretty easily...much easier than say a Zagg InvisibleShield and there were no airbubbles, dust particles, visible figerprints, etc. after placing it on the screen. Also I didn't have to wait for it to dry or set and put it right into its case afterwards. It is also very smooth to the touch like the stock gorilla glass screen with no orange peel visible at all.

Best Slim Matte Finish Case? Elago / Ringke / Spigen compared

I've been a long-time lurker on this forum while waiting for my GS4, so I'd be ready to order a case straight away.
I'm not a case person really (I have insurance for that), but don't like the plastic Samsung currently use, so I wanted the slimmest matte case I could find.
I ordered the Spigen Ultra Fit (matte version of Ultra Slim), the Ringke Slim, and the Elago G7. All essentially the same in design terms.
Had not heard much about the G7 and just assumed it would be the worst as the other brands are better known (to me anyway). Actually it's the best, and also has the best colour options (e.g. I got an understated army green for my white s4). Somehow it's also ever so slightly shorter than the others despite them all having an almost identical design. So it has a closer fit to the phone, which makes it look more 'part' of the phone than the others.
It also makes the phone feel far better than naked (they all do) and none of them add bulk which was my biggest concern on such a big phone.
All are good cases, I just thought I'd mention the Elago because I haven't seen much about it
Oh and I'm also getting the official Protective Plus case delivered as that gets good reviews, but I doubt I'll use it now. Maybe just for extra protection when it calls for it.
(I can't link or add pics, but all these cases are on amazon)
I've had a Ringke Slim, Spigen Ultra Air, and the Elago all on my last 3 phones: Galaxy S3, Note 2, and S4..... I'm with you the whole way, the Elago just seemed to have the best construction, fit, and style out of the bunch. Funny because Elago gets like no props on this forum

Do you mind clarifying what you mean by it is "shorter" than the others? I am debating between these three cases and don't want to order all three just to find out which one I actually want.
Also, I understand that these are all similar designs, but do you mind enlightening us as to any noticeable differences? Perhaps in thickness, flexibility/rigidity, cutout sizes, etc.?
GoGazelle on Youtube had this to say about the three cases for the Galaxy S4: "Spigen is better than the elago. The elago has been getting greasy due to the coating. The Ringke case is my favorite so far"
(Although to be fair, GoGazelle might be basing his opinion on the Glossy vs. Matte coating than the actual case designs themselves.)
While opinions naturally will vary from person to person, the lack of any consensus is making my decision difficult.
Thanks.

Waterproof cases and bags/pouches

Anyone know of any waterproof cases like the Otterbox preserver or lifeproof being developed for the Note 4? Anyone know of any waterproof bags or pouches that will fit the note 4? Or even works/seals out water?
I ordered an ipad mini waterproof bag/pouch that should be arriving today. I'll update when I get a chance to try it out. That seems to be the only option so far for making the Note 4 waterproof.

There are plenty of options for pouches out there without having to resort to one made for an iPad Mini. A quick search on Amazon will bring up several of them. Here are two of them:
JOTO Universal Waterproof Case Bag
Says it fits the Note 4, and it has great reviews.. Since there are several reviews that mention that it fits the Note 3 (without a case), I would wager that it does work with the Note 4 (also without a case).
DandyCase Waterproof Case
That one fits the Mega, so it should have no problem with the Note 4. Great reviews too.

I have an otterbox defender on my note 4. So the total length goes up to 6.5" x 3.75" approximately. My ipad mini waterproof pouch just came. My phone is mostly usable even with the pouch. There's a slight problem with being able to push the side volume and power buttons, as well as pulling down the notification shade. I think it's due the tightness/taughtness of the plastic - there's no slack.
I might try a pouch made for 7" tablet, instead of an 8"-incher. It'll be a tight fit and probably have even more tightness issues. All of the other pouches, even for the Galaxy Mega 6.3", were too small for my Note 4 with my otterbox on.
A waterproof case like the Otterbox Preserver would be best.

Gotcha. In your original post, you didn't say that you were looking for something that would fit the Note 4 with an Otterbox Defender, rather that you were looking for something to fit the Note 4. That's why I posted those links. Thanks for clarifying your needs. Knowing all of the details is important for people as they try to help.

I found this on amazon. The medium is just slightly bigger than the phone and is clear on both sides: http://www.amazon.com/LokSak-Waterproof-Pouch-Pack-4-5/dp/B000BT80U2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
This what i ordered and arrived today: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L1R5UPG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It's unusable because it's a little too big and the backside is opaque.

Not a case I would trust my phone to. Reviews for their other cases are poor, citing an inability to use the phone while it's in the case.
I don't think any phone can be used, with a waterproof case or pouch that has a touchscreen. Capacitive touchscreens use small electrical currents if I'm not mistaken, and when wet, the screen on any waterproof device goes weird. I have the Gear 2 which is water resistant, and I can't use the screen when it has water on it otherwise it goes all weird

There are actually many waterproof cases and pouches that are designed so that you can use your smartphone's touchscreen. In fact, essentially all of the good quality ones allow that. Of course, when the screen protector on the case gets wet, it can be difficult to use the screen for the reason you mentioned. But when dry, a waterproof case of any decent quality will still allow you to use the screen.
Bring up the post.. hopefully there will be many waterproof case coming [emoji1]

Don't laugh. These work great.
Now if I could only find some submersible Bluetooth headphones. All the headphones are either not Bluetooth or not completely waterproof.

[Q] Has anyone found a tablet sleeve that actually fits (Tab S 10.5 T-805)?

Hi everyone,
for months now I've tried to find a sleeve (soft pouch w/zipper) that isn't either too small or much to large for a Galaxy TabS 10.5 tablet to no avail. I've already ordered and sent back about a dozen of sleeves from vaious online retailers (some even with the explicitly stated guarantee that they fit the tablet, including a slim cover, like a glove - they didn't ) to no avail. I'm still carrying it around in an old belkin sleeve for an iPad3 with a broken zipper (which is out of production), just because I can't find any other sleeve with the correct measuments (inside pouch must be 25.1 centimeters by 18.2 centimeters by 1.3 centemeters, not smaller, and not much larger either).
Has anyone found such a thing? I thought the Galaxy tablets are rather common devices, but I had less problems to find a sleeve for a PIPO tablet my brother owns, than for this one. :crying:
Cheers, Pit.
I have mine in an Unicorn Beetle Pro Full-Body Protective Case, and then i have it in a black zip-up hard case that i bought for an ereader years ago, and it`s a nice tight fit.
Fitting an hard-case to your 10.5" gives your tablet a larger size so it will be a tighter fit in some of the loose cases, though if you are into light rather than protection this is most likely not for you, Tip (cut out the crap built in screen protector and use your favourite one)
supcase often do discount codes, do a search and see what you can find.

John.
I second Tinderbox's recommendation. I have the same case for my T700 and it's amazing; with the exception of the built-in screen protector. I mean, it has protected my screen, BUT the protector itself is so scratched up that it isn't very transparent anymore and that's just for normal use.

I have a T800 and use a Poetic flip open sleeve and it is light super thin and fits perfectly with all cutouts. I also used a Poetic on a tab 10.1
Here is mine and it's a tank.
https://griffintechnology.com/us/de...ab/survivor-all-terrain-for-galaxy-tab-s-10-5
I have a tempered glass protector on top made by Skinomi perfect fit then grabbed an otter box cheap off amazon, popped out the screen protect on the otter box so i have tempered glass protect the screen otter box around the rest
its pretty well protected and have crystal clear screen and protection. I also removed the tablet stand stuff from the hard plastic cover and put a thin sheet of foam in it so can click that on for sticking in laptop bag or on the go for added protection while traveling its like fort knox no pun intended on the knox thing.

Best Samsung Tab A SM-P580 Case

Picked up the SM-P580 for my 6 year old this past week.. Curious to see what case everyone likes or is using with theirs -- I picked up a relatively cheap ProCase off of Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Gala...id=1511708748&sr=8-7&keywords=sm-p580+procase and it is just ok --- Since this Tablet has been around for quite awhile was hoping to get some thoughts on what you guys liked.. Thanks..
Cases are a hit or miss with the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (P580) and without S Pen (T580). There are a limit amount of accessories for these models.
You probably want a Mignova Heavy Duty Hybrid Protective Case with Build In Kickstand, since you're letting your kid use your tablet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y15M2VP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It will help you reduce the damage if he or she drops it. Don't rely on the included screen protector because its garbage. There are identical ones with different brand name, but they are all the same. All made in China. Some are cheaper while others are more expensive so make sure you pick the cheapest price and it's designed for the one with the S pen.
Also, the model without the S Pen (T580) is a smaller tablet. They aren't the same size as the model with the S Pen (P580).
Infiland Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen Case, Smart PU Leather 360 Degrees Rotating Stand Case Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S pen P580:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M65L2XX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is okay, but the 360 degree rotating stand is flimsy. It only stays in place if you just watch a video on your tablet. If you plan to use it while its in vertical or horizontal mode, it often falls down.
ProCase Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Case without S Pen
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FVLUDAO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If I had this case for the one with a S Pen, the screen flaps are annoying and cover a small portion of the screen in all directions. For a tablet without the S Pen, it's manageable. Good build quality. Thicker case than Infiland leather case. You got to take the tablet out to access your mSD card.
Samsung Book Cover for Tab A 10.1” with S Pen, Black or White
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...tab-a-10-1--with-s-pen--black-ef-bp580pbeguj/
Right now, it's 50% off for $25 but normally for $50. If you missed the sale, you can get cheaper ones on Ebay as used or open-box.
Out of all the cases I have including the Pro Case for the T580, the Samsung Book Cover is the best one for the Tab A 10.1” with S Pen (P580). The only con aside from drop protection is that you can't use it in vertical mode because the magnets only hold the tablet in two horizontal angles. Easy to take off and put the book cover on. Easy access to your micro-SD card slot. No raised screen case hinge to interfere with my hand when I'm writing on it. The magnets are strong and hold in place with I use it.
I was thinking of getting a keyboard case, but I discovered there's no official Samsung Keyboard case. There are 3rd party Chinese manufacturer keyboard cases, but they are a hit-or-miss too with build quality and user experience.
Thanks for all the info Baja --good stuff..
I just got this one for my SM-T580 and it fits great.
It's not cheap, but it's worth a bit of extra cash.
I did take the screen protector out because I don't like them, but otherwise it's a great case.

New Case & Screen Protector from Poetic

Available for PRE_ORDER:
Directly: https://www.poeticcases.com/collections/vendors?q=Essential
or on Amazon:
Case, 2-piece, with built-in screen protector. Ugly AF, but less offensive than some of their other cases, and it seems durable:
https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Poetic-Resistant-Protection-Full-Body/dp/B078T3N1S7/
Screen Protector (only), Tempered Glass, etc., yada-yaha:
https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Protector-Poetic-Coverage-Anti-Fingerprint/dp/B078KJ9PK1/
I'm going to order them, and I'll post a review ASAP. Doesn't look like it'll be available for a few weeks. Stay tuned. Does anyone have experience with cases with built-in SPs?

Ok, didn't hit BUY. Decided to read reviews of similar (including the same model for the Note 8) and there are a bunch of complaints about the built-in screen protector in the case, and how cheap it is, an air-gap, etc. Pretty much what I imagined, and I'm sure the same problems will be found on this one. May still try the TG screen protector, or may read reviews for their on other phones with curved screens (like the Note 8).

Don't know. But based on the reviews of the version for the Note 8, it looks like it's only on the edges, and there are a few complaints. Though the majority of people seem happy with it. I don't think I'd be happy with a gap between the screen and the protector. May get it anyway, I'm waiting for the 20% off coupon from signing up to their mailing list.
I think, after finding very similar cases by other companies, with very similar ad designs, I'm thinking this is more of the same junk that pours out of china, that's just rebranded and packaged when it gets to the states. I'd love to be proven wrong.
It's probably only the edges. I'm curious as to whether or not the camera and sensor holes are actually cutouts.
