[Q] Recommend me a radio? - HTC Sensation

So I've been searching for the past couple days, but I'm coming up with a lot of conflicting info, and some stuff I just can't find. I've got a TMOUS Sensation 4G, S-off, running the latest InsertCoin 4.03 ROM, and I'm just not getting the same signal quality I got with my Mytouch 4G. Used to get at least 1, maybe 2 bars of HSPA at my house, but all the Sensation seems to pick up is EDGE. Can someone recommend me a radio, and a corresponding RIL? It'd be great if you can link me to it too, as I see some radios mentioned here and there that aren't linked in the radio thread. If it helps, I live in Eastern Massachusetts. Thanks much.

Hi,
I live in Boston MA.
Before I installed custom ROM, I had 4G speed with T-Mobile.
Now after installing customer ROM, I am only able to get on EDGE.
Radio: 11.21.3504.13_2
RIL: htc-ril 4.0.0012HMQ
I installed custom ROM: SensationBlitz and did not back up my old ROM so can't go back.
Anyone have success with 4G speed in Boston on HTC Sensation with T-Mobile, if so what radio / RIL?
THANKS!

No response yet, but I was able to return to stock ROM and get very good 4G speed in Boston..
I will post once I find out my radio and ril

Radio upgrade for TMO-US Sensation 4g phones?

I see at least 1 rom recommends upgrading to a specific radio. Is there an upgraded radio that we can use that will provide any performance increase what so ever?

Best Radio for TMobile USA?

While my radio seems to be mostly working, I don't know if any other would work better or give me faster speeds. It seems my data reception is a bit variable, sometimes web pages load slow enough not to seem like 3G, other times speed is decent.
I have TMobile USA in a 3/4g area, InsertCoin 3.4.4, and radio 10.58.9035.00P_10.15.9035.02_2. What is considered best Radio and RIL for TMobile USA?

I was just hoping to hear from other TMobile users who have knowledge of radios. Before I start flashing radios, I want to have reason to think the one I am putting will be better, as I understand there is some risk.

No problem (TMOUS is TMObile USa btw)
I had bad luck myself with 10.58. Drained my battery too fast.
The Radio and RIL i suggested are the ones that come on the phone with the Gingerbread update.

Will switching to your radio improve data speeds and reception as well?

Saint Louis, where we have 10mhz of AWS.
I would like to go to the 10.56 radio and ril .169. I understand the safest way to flash the radio is to flash a RUU, updating the ROM as well. I would like to get rid of the InsertCoin anyway as I am having another issue with it. I want to keep clockwork, the factory unlocked state and root. This phone was an Asian factory unlocked phone, but I want an English RUU. Any recommendations?
Actually, i realized that I have a mismatch between my RIL and my radio (I didn't change yet). (This is how the seller set my phone up, as I bought it used.)
I have 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 with HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ.
From the RIL thread, I see that if I am to have 10.58, I should have this RIL
HTC-RIL 2.2.0173HMQ from the new Sensation XE RUU!
Radio versions 10.15.9035.02_2
Actually, I plan to switch to the 10.56 radio, and I already have its RIL, so I will skip flashing the RIL.

Radio/RIL Google Map

Hey everyone, TribalArtGod had an idea for some kind of map to show different combinations of Radios and RIL's and the signal reception for those combos and i decided to act with that idea and am now working on making a Google Map with different pinpoints with information relative to what phone is being used and what radio/RIL combo is being used for the area that you live and work in. Currently there is only one entry and it is for the HTC Inspire on the Simple Mobile network. I will be testing all radios for the HTC Inspire and uploading the information to the map for those radios. If you would like to help me with any other phones just comment below with:
1. Radio and RIL version you are currently using
2. Screenshot of your network signal - I have been using Network Signal Info here
3. Screenshot of a speedtest - I have been using Speedtest.net
4. and lastly what phone you are using, i.e. HTC Inspire, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, etc.
Here is the link to the map so you can see how i am putting it together here
Now would you only like us to test EDGE network? or go all out?
Go all out if you can

Radio help please
I have a HTC Inspire 4G which was originally on AT&T. It's unlocked and accepts other SIMS, I have also unlocked it and have S-Off (which I gained through the no longer supported hack kit) running CM 10.1-20130206-unofficial-ace.
The RIL is HTC-RIL 2.2.0014G (September 24, 2010) the Radio shows 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
The phone is stuck on Edge service, so from reading, I appears that I need to do an update of the radio? I know where to pick up the radio's on CM's site, but they don't support the radios and wont apparently give advice.
Help.

T-mobile HTC sensation signal problems

I need help, I'm already desperate...
Got a T-mobile HTC sensation, it was already unlocked for other carriers but no S-off or unlocked bootloader.
I got an S-off, unlocked the bootloader, changed CID, flashed Android Revolution HD 6.7.2, but I have HORRIBLE signal reception. So I found that update file in the header which said "- HTC Sensation 4G (U.S. T-Mobile PG5810000 | T-MOB010) users can flash this for better signal and data speeds!" I installed it... NO IMPROVEMENT, my last hope is flash a different radio. Anybody knows what's the problem and how to fix it?
configs right now
different carrier sim (not t-mobile)
S-off, unlocked loader
HBOOT: 1.27.11111
Radio: Radio_11.76A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M
cid changed to 1111111
firmware: 3.33
ROM right now: is the XE version with beats (tried 1.2.2 too, no change)
Kernel: faux
EDIT: just found out that my wifi is not working either, tried the boot.img fix, didn't help. I get Wifi for a brief second and if I managed to connect it will stay for a while, but if I don't no wifi after that.

Have you tried a different kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247 (maybe its for AOSP only though)

Different (userfriendly) radios? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Remember to make a backup before install.
yes I have tried 2-3 kernels, including Bricked.
and I have changed 7-8 different radios/firmwares
P.S. fixed wifi with WiFix, at least this 2 issues are not connected
Greetings. I'm taking a stab at asking my question here because it seems sort of related.
I'm a T-mobile USA customer with a brand new SIM card in my Sensation 4g that I bought a few months ago.
My bootloader is unlocked, I'm S-off, I've flashed the custom firmware (version: 3.32.401.3) that was recommended for those flashing the Cyanogenmod 9 ROM. I'm currently using the most recent STABLE Cyanogenmod 9 ROM (not 9.1, but the STABLE 9 ROM). I'm using the stock Cyanogenmod 9 kernel (the one that came with the ROM: 3.0.26-g7290c7f). I never bothered to flash a new radio, not sure if that's a mistake or not.
My reception is good but it seems rather obvious that my phone is completely unable to hook up to or unaware of the 4g network. When downloading, the icon in the taskbar always shows either "3g" or "H" and when I check the "Status" in "About Phone" my "Mobile Network Type" is always listed as UMTS:3 or HSDPA:9.
Can anyone make any suggestions for how I might begin the trouble shooting process to remedy this issue. Thank you in advance for any sage like advice you might provide, I'm pretty lost here.

H is good. It means you are on an HSDPA network. That's 4G for the purposes of this conversation (though what really constitutes 4G is a little more involved)
HSDPA:9 might just be the best speeds that are available in your area. For instance 8 is the best I can get at my house. No amount of better phones will fix that. It's just what's available from the tower.

That's helpful thank you. One last question in the interest of clarification. Should I find myself in an HSPA+ reception area, should I expect the information over the reception bars to change from 3g to 4g and would "Mobile Network Type" then reflect HSPA+ as opposed to HSDPA 9?
Just curious so I might know what to look for when crossing into better network areas.
Thanks again for the tip.
The H means 4g technically. You can update your radio and ril very easily. Will find links and edit post

Thanks for the link. I guess what I was wondering is whether or not I actually need to update my radio, I'd feel a lot more confident in my reception if I ever saw HSPA+ listed in my phone's "Mobile Network Type", but I never do. I had previously thought that HSDPA was 3G, but maybe I'm missing something.
Thanks for the link, flashing a new radio is something I had been giving consideration, I'm just wondering how user friendly the process is. Like picking a needle out of a haystack, or is there someway to narrow down what radio/ril combo is best for one's phone/network.
I'll read through the thread for the link you posted and update my progress here later. Thanks for the info.

your data connection will still say 3G, unless you start to use the data then it will automatically switch to 4G/H (saves battery this way)
HTC made a fault with the Sensation with building the antennas into the back case (hand over the back of the phone = small loss of reception)
Theres a program called getRIL in the play store. You can update your radio and ril as long as your root. Which i assume u are. I do it thep old fasion way though.

ARHD and T-Mobile US Users

Under the 10-post limit so I need to post here.
I have a HTC Sensation Z710E, I believe it originally came from Asia. I am using the phone in the U.S. with T-Mobile.
Regarding the ARHD ROM, I always noticed,
"HTC Sensation 4G (U.S. T-Mobile PG5810000 | T-MOB010) users can flash this for better signal and data speeds!"
Should I be using the T-Mobile ROM and should I flash this file? I'm confused whether this refers to:
1. The HTC Sensation 4G phone sold through T-mobile and users of T-Mobile in the U.S.
2. Any HTC Sensation phone and users of T-Mobile in the U.S.
I've traditionally used the standard ROM without any issues. Just wondering if I can get even better performance. That aside, are there any differences between the two phones besides firmware?

Hi,
ARHD 1.2x is for TMOUS users in the US using the TMOBILE network.
So,yes, you should be OK using it.
Make a nandroid just in case .
I have a TMOUS Sensation. I am currently running 1.2.2 with 3.33x and faux.
I have been enjoying the rom. The phone seems very stable and battery is lasting nicely.
my questions are-
As long as I run the PG58IMG file for better signal/data, can I run any of the 3 listed ROMs on my Sensation? Does the Tmobile version just preserve the original Tmobile feel (icons etc) or do the not Tmobile ones cause issues? Are there any advantages (other than beats or no beats) to the different ROMs?
Thanks!
Don
