[Q] XDA on Android Help - General Questions and Answers

If there is a rom up the i want can I install it to my phone from the phone? And how would I pay for the app if I wanted to??

You can try clicking the download link and saving to your SDcard (depending on what you are currently running, it may go there automatically, in downloads or similar). But if you have not rooted/installed clockworkmod, you won't be able to install the rom. Once you do, you can DL and install all from your phone.
To "pay", you probably want to click donate on the post of one of the rom developers.

[Q] Why i cant install WhatsApp??

Hello!
I'm new on this forum and i have a question.
I just installed [ROM] MiniCM7-2.1.9 [11/2/12]Gingerbread 2.3.7/CM7.2 unofficial port for the pro
and i cant install WhatsApp and that rom hasn't market what can i do?
Sorry for my bad english.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> check Unknown Sources.
Then go to google and search "download whatsapp" the first link should provide you with the apk. After you download it just tap it and you will be prompted with an install screen. Hope it works for you
there should be a google apps add-on somewhere in the thread. look for it, download it and flash it. then the market app should appear already.
edit: i checked the thread and the link is at "Instructions" point 3. just click on it to download.
oh. and remember to wipe cache and dalvik cache before u flash it.
Thanks guys but it isn't any solution for my problem, I made this things but couldn't install WhatsApp, just gonna wait for new Rom or install older.

If you want the Market to work, try flashing Gapps. If you want Whatsapp to work, try downloading it off the internet, Simply google "Whatsapp.akp Download" and download it from some site. If it can't install, try to check unsinged apps (see 2th reply on this thread) Or perhaps reflashing the rom, with a cache whipe/ fix premissons.

[Q] Chinese phone Galaxy Grand

I have a Galaxy Grand but the chinese version.
The model is SCH-i879.
The problem i have is that the android in this phone does not allow me to install any of the google apps (maps, gmail, play etc).
I haven't been able to install CWM with odin. The installation seems succesfull (i'm installing the CWM for the Samsung Galaxy Grand GT-i9082). I cant boot into recovery when i flash the CWM.
I have the original Stock image that i got from Samsung Mobile.com, but other than that, i have not been able to install google apps, root the phone or install CWM to install Cyanogen or other custom rom.
Does anybody know what could i do to at least root the phone? i was able to install ROM Manager, but without any root privilages it is useless...
Help me Please!!

hello.
can u tell us how you managed to install gapps?
i downloaded the zip from goo.im and copied it to the root of the phone, rebooted and tried to install from recovery mode 3e but it says that it doesn't find the sdcard.
after that i thought that if i put an external sdcard maybe it will work. still nothing. the i tried with adb but i get an error about the signature of the zip.
the only way i see that i will be successful is by installing the zip from cwm.
is there something wrong with my phone that it can't see the internal sdcard or is it normal? when the phone is running i can see it without a problem. just in recovery mode i get the error

Unable to download a particual app even though I have the right Android os

Okay this has been bugging me out for a week now, I can't seem to download the Chiltern Railway app on to my Vodafone Smart 858, (Huawei U8160) it says when I try to download it it just says my device is not compatible ???
I was running The smart Lucky rom with no problems and I used to have the app on my phone, but my mate thought it would be okay to find a better rom for the phone, he didn't back up any of my apps or files and just wiped the phone, he couldn't get any of the roms to work probably, So I went back to the smart lucky rom, and proceded to reinstall my apps from Google play,
I am now using the Custom Rom LegDroid CM7 U8160 which works really well, and says the os is now 2.3.7,
So I don't understand why I can't download this Chiltern railway App, it even says the minimum system needed is 2.1
Does anyone have any idea to why I can't download the App?
What if I just copied the apk file from a friends phone, would I be able to install the app then?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

[Completed] Replacing my Google Play Store

I have a great rom now. The thing which upsets me is that I cannot download the games I play most from it, nor can I sideload those particularly. I know that I have the ability to remove system apps although I don't know what's going to happen to my phone if I remove the play store and other google apps. I read about installing gapps so I assume there is a way to flash gapps back o to my phone. But as far as removing, can someone please tell me what I can do. I did try to read about this before coming here but most was above my current level of knowledge of android.
Hi,
To better assist you, please post your device model number and I will guide you to where you may find your answer.
Thank you.
I have the LG Stylo LGMS631 from MetroPCS. I want the Katana Rom. Like I said, being that the play store doesn't support certain apps on the Katana Rom, I would like to first remove all the preinstalled g-apps and then flash the correct set of g-apps for this Katana Rom. I read maybe that flashing the gapps replaces the ones already installled but I don't know. Please help me do what I am trying to do. Thank you very much.
Flashing a new GApps package will indeed remplace the existing ones. Download the OpenGApps package (ARM / 5.1 / Pico) and flash the downloaded zip from your recovery. No need to wipe cache partitions.
If you need further assistance, feel free to ask in the Android Q&A forum.
Good luck
Thank you so much. Seeing all the different gapps packages and how to and what not had me very confused. Thanks again, very helpful.

can someone help me?

so recently I accidentally wiped everything on my phone except TWRP. Then I managed to boot up the phone with liquid remix installed with android 9.0 and now my phone is missing the Samsung apps (which I want on my phone) how can I get them back is there a flashable file or any installable pack I really want them back
so if someone can help please tell me what to do I will really appreciate it
Aosp based roms and Samsung apps usually don't mix very well.
You could backup your Samsung apps using Titanium backup, then try to install them one by one in your android 9.
You could also Google for a site that has Samsung apps apk's.
Don't expect much success ?

I have the APK s I just can't download them to my device if you know how to install them can you help me or redirect me to someone else that knows what to do
I suppose you've enabled install apps from unknown sources in settings.
Try to install as you would any apk, i.e. open in file explorer.
As mentioned before, don't expect them to install anyway (maybe 1 out of 20??); most are not compatible with aosp roms.
For your aosp custom rom - look for similar gapps or apps from the app store or XDA.
