how much battery can we save anyway? those are very tiny light..
personally I wouldn`t use such a script...just because the batt save might not be that good and beside that when your phone hangs or somethin` like that whne you are touching screen those nice lights are telling you that ur touchscreen is working and you are not tryin` to wake a turned off phone

i think this is only possible with a kernel which supports BLN
and at the moment we dont have such a kernel for our device
Is this script still in the work? Any update? I need it for my Samsung Vibrant
anything yet? beta or test is welcomed..volunteering as tester
Isn't there no news about this?
I use screendim to dim a lot the screen light to read on darkness, but when i touch the screen the buttons flash my eyes .

Same here it drives me crazy have tried a few apps but none of them work and I posted in the Q&A forum twice and never found a way to KILL those pesky lights I would really like to seen this working.
I'll try a hard thing yo solve this , i'll paint my screen protector with a permanent marker (maybe blue one) to dim permanently those buttons .
kingsonwongs has integrated this feature in his shadow0-rom

that's why I prefer his ROM cause afaik it's the only one with this feature
I'll ask to other developers to add this, i didn't know that this was possible .
Thanks

turn off the backlight of the buttons (or modify the time that they remain on). I'm not sure because i didn't try that rom yet.

Just like many others, my Nexus buttons won't lit up after I flashed to custom desire roms. To enable it, we need to have a script running in the background. That's where GScript application comes to rescue. You can download the lite version from Market Place. After you have it installed, please follow the following instructions
1. Download and extract the attached file to your [SDCARD]://gscript/
2. Start GScript lite application
3. Menu > Add script > Load file >LED_ON.sh
4. Make sure you check "Needs SU?"
5. Press "Save"
After completed the given steps, you will see the "LED_ON" from the list. You would need to execute (run) it by a single tap on "LED_ON".
It will prompt for root permission, please make sure you allow the script to run as root
** You should ONLY run this ONCE each time you reboot ( restart ) your phone
This is only a temporary workaround until someone make changes to the kernel driver.
Features:
1. Lit up the capacitive buttons when your screen is on
2. Turn off capacitive buttons when your screen is off
Regards,
Kenny N
so do i have to manually run the script every time i turn the screen off.
No - when you turn off the screen, the script will automatically turn off the capacitive buttons. when you turn on the screen, the script will automatically turns on the capacitive buttons and it will make sure the LED remains lit up
how can i install the script ? and seems like a good idea
rather than using gscript and having to manually run the script couldn't you put it someplace on the phones memory like /system/etc/init.d and have it loaded during boot
id test the theory but im not running the desire rom
So I'm curious, what exactly is this doing?
Does this keep the trackball, and the buttons (back/menu/home/search) buttons "lit" when the screen is on?
I didn't know the buttons were backlit. Wonder if this could be ported to Cyanogen?

Ohh i get it, yeah, my buttons do light up (never really noticed before, never had a problem with them to really have to look at them heh)....
So i take it the backlight doesn't work on desire roms then? and this is a fix for that? okay sorry for the dumb question earlier heh.
Yeah, my nexus one buttons do backlight now that I'm looking at it. =)
I would need to rewrite the codes in order for it to run along with /system/etc/init.d - or else it will end up with an endless startup

The script checks for the current state of your screen. It will maximise the capacitive brightness when your screen is on and turn it off when your screen is off.

How did the problem occur in the first place? did you drop the phone? is the screen cracked/clean, did you press on the buttons too hard, did you have any water damage etc, there might be some fix for this.
^^ maybe a recalibration might work, but I have no idea how to do it on 9003. VolUp+Power button takes me to calibration menu on my spice mi-280.
I've been reading about these capacitive buttons being a huge battery drain for ICS roms for some time. Lot of people have been posting (in other forums) on ways to disable these keys to improve battery life. I might do it myself later on to see if it helps my battery life.

after that i used button savior app and der is no any problm..
but after couple of weeks those capacitive buttons started working again nd problem of self activation also started...
hence i m now trying to cmpletly disable those capacitive buttuns..
i tried zip of nexus s galaxy s3 & galaxy s2 but didnt workd for my phone..
m tired now...
thanx for giving attention.
After reading a bit into this, I suggest something that might work.
Again emphasizing that try it at your own risk.
Go to /system/usr/keylayout/ and find file sec_touchscreen.kl.
Make a copy of this file as a backup.
Open this file as a text file in any text editor.
You'd see something like
key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
Edit it by adding a "#" symbol in front of both lines
#key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
#key 158 BACK VIRTUAL
This is similar to what is suggested for sgsII.
See if you wanna try it out.
Also, note, this will only disable those keys, not the key lights. We can work on that once this one is done.
Hope this works *fingers crossed*

it sounds funny but when i m connecting my phone to my laptot with data cable touch on screen works fair..
but when screen gets off problm occurs..
by d way thanx for ur help i can use my phone atlst
Not able to touch on the screen? I didn't understand this problem?
I had the same problem, disansamble the phone, take apaprt the touchscreen with the display from the chassis(verry gentle, you will risk to separe the glass of the lcd from it's back wich can remain stick to the chassis, a good sollution is to heat a little the touch before doing the separation) and with a cutter cut about 1mm from the signal traces for those buttons, the signal traces are imprimed on to a palstic foil wich is sticked to the touch.
That's the way i solved the problem. Good Luck.

Great idea. Enjoy.
Saw some requests for the possibility to disable the capacitive buttons. So I made 2 zips, one to disable the buttons and another to enable them again.
It's of course best used in conjunction with on screen buttons
The buttons still lights up when touched, but no vibration response and the buttons are deactivated. I'll look into disabling the lights also if theres a demand for it
Just flash either one of the zips from recovery, and reboot.
Both are tested with Foxhounds rom (ME2), but should work on any Touchwiz roms (And possibly AOSP roms (let me know if you test it)).
Enjoy!

Completely okay
People activate on screen buttons with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285624
And like the guy in the 2nd post is saying, he always touches the capacitive buttons accidentaly.
This mod disable the buttons functionality, so this doesn't happen
In regard to the light issue.. I've forgot there was a setting for it!
Hope I made myself clear!

For me this is unuseful. Lags and erroneous pressing.
There's a setting to have it go home immediately, instead of waiting to see if you're long-pressing.
The one problem it does have, though, is that it becomes impossible to take a screenshot.
