[Q] Defy - Will not start - Will not factory reset - General Questions and Answers

Hi. Can someone please help as I'm new to this this and would very much like my phone to work again...
My Defy kept restarting approximately 5 seconds after starting up. Without being able to access any settings I tried a factory reset via the on button / volume down button. I'm not sure how long this should have taken but decided after a few hours of nothing more than a yellow dot moving across the screen that it wasn't working! Button presses / screen taps had no affect so I pulled the battery.
On powering it up it now either gets as far as the Moto Blur or T-Mobile logos but just hangs there. Further attempts to factory reset give the same result as the first time.
I've noticed two lines of text when accessing the reset screen which read 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command' and 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/caller'. I think these were present at the first attempt but I'm not totally sure of this.
In case it's relevant the phone shipped with Eclair, I changed this to Froyo using the Motorola software upgrade some months ago, it had been working fine since apart from not saving photos (?).
Aplolgies for the essay. Can someone please help?

I have same problem now.....but I didn't find any answer yet. I thought i could be the hardware

Could you try to boot into bootloader then use RSDLite to flash the original SBF to your phone from there? I used to do that in the past with my Milestone.

Daxian X999 / T32 hard reset help needed

I'm not sure how many people, if any, have experience with this phone, but I'm taking a shot in the dark because I am completely out of options here. The phone is similar to the Cect M88, and the other Cect iPhone-clones available, although I'm not sure how similar the button layout is.
I installed PCM Keyboard last night, and all was working fine until this afternoon, when all of a sudden, my phone wouldn't wake up. I ended up having to pull the battery in order to get it to restart, but then it wouldn't boot past the Windows Mobile screen (the first one - didn't even make it to the second screen).
After several attempts to hard reset (top volume button + camera button + power button), I was able to get it reset, but even though active sync was running, folders weren't showing up properly on the phone itself. I did a soft reset, and folders then showed up, but this time active sync wouldn't load on the phone. Several more soft resets did nothing, but I kept trying, and finally... the phone froze up again to the point where it hung on the Windows Mobile screen again. Now, despite all attempts, I can't even get it to hard reset. When I push all buttons from an off state, the screen will turn blue (which seems to indicate some kind of resetting is going on since it normally goes straight to the WM screen) and then a few seconds later, the Windows Mobile screen will come up and hang. I've tried every combination of buttons possible, and I've tried hard resetting probably a good 20-30 times since this happened. I've removed the SIM card, removed the SD card... I've basically tried hard resetting seemingly every way possible, and yet it still will not reset and load up WM 6.0 pro like it should.
Any ideas on how I can get this thing to at least move past the WM screen? If I'm totally unable to hard reset, what would be the next best course of action? Since this is an off-brand phone with no support or any kind of warranty, are there repair places out there that can restore the OS? Is that something I can do myself? (Phone didn't come with any software or anything.) I'm at a loss here... I really don't want to end up with a $200 blue flashlight/paperweight. I know I took my chances when I bought it, but well... this stinks.
worked
hey man i know its old and hopefully you still have your phone.. ok what you need to do is let the phone die completely so you may have to keep the blue screen on and keep turning it on till your phone does this like you i have hard reseted serveral time to no avail but when the phone died i took out the battery plugged it in to the wall charger placed the battery in the phone let the red led light by the camera light up then i turned it on and before the screen could show the splash i did the hard reset phone is aye ok !! hope this helps man.. your post helped me..

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Boot Loop (stock)

I have an unlocked HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus imported from the UK to the US. Ordered from Negri Electronics.
It's not rooted or modded in any way.. Mainly because I don't know how to. As far as I know, it's running stock ICS.
I was using it normally, (using the fb messenger app if it makes any difference) when it suddenly rebooted by itself. The Google logo comes up, then the start up animation, and sometimes the home screen will appear but is not touch sensitive (i cannot slide it to unlock), and then it 'hangs' and the screen goes black. Repeat.
I've tried to fix this by myself and there's a video on youtube (sorry, noob here. can't post links. video is by robbidwv and title is "my galaxy nexus won't boot..") of the same problem that I have, but the posted solution doesn't work for me.
So far, I have entered Coin Mode and pressed Start. Entered Fastboot mode and gone into Recovery Mode (no options appear after that. it just starts booting up and the loop begins), and I've also tried Restart Bootloader.
I've almost given up. Now all I want is to extract my SMS, if they're still on my phone. I can't access the folders on my computer because it won't boot up and connect. Is there a way that I can extract my SMS by using DOS in either Coin Mode or Fastboot mode?
Or even better, does anyone have a solution to this boot loop problem? I'll contact Negri Electronics tomorrow and hopefully they can send me a replacement.
Please help!! Thanks
that problem just started happening with me an hour ago!!
i hate this!!
we need a solution please!
Hey guys, sorry about the issue.the major problem I see here is you wanting to retrieve your txt messages, which might be possible with a little Modding, but if yourwilling to lose them to get a working phone back, then this is what your going to have to do. Make sure your phone is completely off. Hold the 2 volume buttons and the power button together. You will get into a mode with an android Guy. Press the volume button up or down until it says reboot recovery at the top. Press the power button. It will rebootand come to a screen with an android. Hold volume up,down and power at the same time. A menu will come up. Go down to wipe data. Click it, and after it is done reboot. Your phone should work now.
If this helped you, or you simply appreciate me taking the time to write this out then please press the thanks button
Hey!
Thanks. Yeah I 'fixed' it already. I was just about to post something similar. After a while I just gave up on trying to recover my data. Good thing that Google syncs everything so the only issue would be recovering my messages, which I decided weren't worth sending it in for a repair which would probably not be able to recover anything anyway.
The thing I didn't know about was to press power + volume up WHILE on the recovery screen. I thought navigating to the recovery screen was it!
Still, this kind of sucks. I love my GNex, but I can't help but be slightly pissed seeing that my crappy iPhone 3GS never did this in the 2 years I had it. Oh well, hope it doesn't happen again!
hey guys! i also did a complete wipe on my phone and got it working again!
but i wonder why this happened in the first place?
last application i installed before the crash was double twist, i dunno why but i feel that it was the reason behind the boot loop!
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I just had this happen to me TWICE!
It happened to me first last Monday, the 23rd - the phone crashed when trying to send an email with an attachment - and went into a boot loop - Google logo would appear, no make it to the animation, and reboot....
I performed a full reset and things worked again. I didn't install all the apps I had before - figuring it must have been due to some app messing with the OS.
Well, it happened again to me yesterday! I was connecting to my bluetooth headset when the phone crashed and went into the boot loop. Full reset worked again, and I've installed even fewer apps - essentially only those that I use on a daily basis.
My phone is still on 4.0.1 and I'm hoping once 4.0.4 is pushed this may get resolved? I have a canadian GNex from Negri. I will call them again (I called the first time, but when the full reset worked I never contacted them again).
I would like to this this is a software issues, and not hardware.
I have the same problem. If you figure it out let me know.
Today my phone also entered a boot loop: [Google logo]->[black screen]->[vibration]->[Repeat]
I tried Recovery Mode, but this is what happens: (sorry for the link but I am not trusted with powerful tools such as outside links apparently, as I have not yet reached the maturity of a person with eight posts... )
dl(dot)dropbox(dot)com/u/53568097/Android.jpg
This is what I see when I navigate to Recovery Mode
For a split second I can see an image of an Android with spinning cogs in his innards, but then this little sad fellow appears. WTF is this?
EDIT:
Oh, and I'm running Android stock 4.0.2, never rooted or unlocked, Swedish. At the time when the phone started doing this, I was using Endomondo, and was about to set off on my bike when it died on me.
Stock ROM galaxy nexus bootlooping after wiping data also.
Hi,
My GNex went into a bootloop so i searched xda and found that factory reseting would be helping my prob. But after wiping the data also its still in going through the loop . Please help .:crying:

[Q] Fastboot not working, stuck on load screen.

I installed clean rom about a year ago, so unsure what version it could be on the top of my head.
I have not updated my firmware or anything.
The only thing I did before I resetted my tablet was change a few settings.
1. I changed the resolution so it would help save me some battery.
2. It had an option to use 4.1 of android instead of 4.2, so I did that.
Other then that I read around the forum and came to the conclusion I might have soft bricked it but in the other forums they were messing with cache and was in the process of installing. So I was unsure if I should come to that conclusion, hence I started a thread.
Tried to PWR + vol down, but it vibrates and shows nothing on screen.
Shows the Logo then it increases in size (assuming at that time it was changing resolution) and then it just gets stuck.
Not sure what I could do from here on out.
Thanks ahead for your time.

Click to collapse
How did you change the resolution?
Are you saying the tablet vibrates continously when trying to boot into the BL??
Did you wait long enough when trying to get to the bootloader?
You have to hold the buttons until the tablet vibrates twice, then you should see the bootloader menu.
If you can't get there, you may be in bad trouble unless you have nvflash blobs.

[Q] DESPERATE HERE: Phone won't boot after soft reset?

A couple of months back I decided to root my device. I did this using the unlocking the bootloader method. As a result, I lost my DRM keys, and I managed to restore DRM function by following the methods detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
I had to download the stock Android 4.4.4 from online, which I flashed my phone with - no problems. Things ran smoothly from then for about a month, and then I realised that my cellular network started to malfunction, and I couldn't access apps like YouTube and Snapchat on the cellular network. This prompted me today to do a "soft reset" of my phone, by holding the power button and volume up button simultaneously for about 3 seconds - under the impression that it would restore my phone settings back to the factory default.
Much to my horror, the worst case scenario happened. When I performed the soft reset, my phone vibrated 3 times and switched off. When I tried to turn it back on, it would show the boot-up screen indicating "SONY", followed by the next screen indicating "powered by android", and then it would show the blue screen with the wavy lines. It stayed on this screen for about 20 minutes. I figured something was wrong, and I tried to soft reset it again, only to be stuck at the blue screen once again. I decided to let it stay that way for 2 more hours, in order to drain the battery. When the battery drained, I turned it back on, and it was still stuck at the blue wavy screen.
I don't know a whole lot about Android phones, and I have no idea why this is happening, but it is causing me an immense amount of frustration - I have invaluable data on that phone, and to lose it would just be devastating. I can't even begin to describe it. I'm using TWRP recovery, and I'm also using TitaniumBackup which is backed up onto my phone's internal storage, and I can't access any of the files on my phone from my computer, because it doesn't recognise my phone.
This has been a long one, thanks for bearing with me. I've got a few questions:
1. What's the problem that's preventing my phone from booting?
2. How do I fix it?
3. If it's unfixable, how can I retrieve my data from my phone?
Really, really hoping someone can help me out on this - I'm completely lost and am desperate here. Thank you in advance!
Can you boot into TWRP's recovery mode using the volume down key?
Just press volume down when you see the green light on your notification led upon powering on your phone
Well something keeps the phone to boot, try to clean cache in recovery, it might help.
But to restore data on internal storage, count it as unpossible.

Hudl 2 won't power on, boot partition corrupt

Hi guys looking for some advice for some problems I am experiencing with my Tesco Hudl 2. I was directed here by a friend of my mothers, so I am new here. I have searched and searched for a possible solution and haven't had any luck however I sincerely apologise if this question has already been asked.
So onto my problem I have a roughly 2 year old Hudl, other than the current problem it is in good condition, never been out the case or dropped and I haven't rooted it. This is the first problem I have had. A few months ago a friend was using it and despite me telling her not to, she played some Facebook games on it. After that it started coming up with crash reports and error messages and within a few hours was switching itself off. I had a quick search for some help at the time but as I have very little experience with android devices and couldn't find any kind of help I switched it off and left it at that. I realise now being switched off for that few months may not have helped.
Yesterday I tried switching it on to see if I could get it working, on switching it on with a full charge, it goes as far as the powered by android logo, sits for a minute, switches off and then tries again. I have attempted to perform a reset using the power button only, this done nothing.
I also attempted to bring up the Android system recovery menu using the power and volume up buttons. This brought up and error message stating that the 'efi hard drive boot failed', the next error message was 'no bootable device, hit any key' '[ok]', from here I can do nothing. The touch screen and the volume buttons are unresponsive.
Holding the power button eventually powers off the device.
I know this means that my boot partition is corrupted as I have previously performed boot partition fixes on a pc when a Linux clean install went haywire but I have very limited Android experience. The advice I received was that I have to factory reset the device and install a new copy of my boot partition, using abd on my laptop and to come here to XDA-developers forum for help with the process. I am using a windows 7 laptop currently. To be honest I don't know where to start and any advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance and sorry about length!
