This may not be the correct place, but I figure one of the devs may know the answer.
On the Atrix 2, from the (stock) homescreen, I press the apps button and my apps show as normal. Usually, from there, I can press search and type "market" and market will show. This works for all my installed apps. However, recently, when I press search from app drawer, the whole home screen force closes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Same on mine using the stock home. However when I switch to ADW ex home, it works fine.

Will I be able to "app search" by hitting the search button once I'm in the ADW launcher's drawer?

Kind of. When you press the search key in ADW's app drawer, it takes you to the Google Search application, where you can change what you search for in the settings.
This is apparently an issue with a recent Google Search update. This is a rather widespread issue with all Blur devices if you have the latest Google Search installed from the market. Thekooliest over at Atrix Forums found a bit on Droid-Life about it. I however do not know if there is a fix for the A2 for it. Try uninstalling the Google Search update.

Working fine here on 2.3.3. It's not listed under Manage Apps at all?

mine has gone too, I don't use it so not really fussed.
It seems that it is just the shortcut that has stopped working. Try opening it from the app drawer. Delete the shortcut and recreate it and it should work.

its gone from app draw...
Hmmm, strange. Recreating the shortcut worked for me. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling it? What about rebooting? I've noticed occasionally apps disappearing from the app drawer, but usually a reboot brings them back.

rebooted, no difference.
not in the shortcut app list to place on homescreen
in market, google voice says installed, but the open app button is greyed out...
Ignore. 10char.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Apparently HTC in their infinite wisdom decided to remove the voice search icon.
Install shortcut, then run it and it will allow you to start the voice search app using whatever method you wish. Then pull the notification bar down and create your shortcut. Dragged mine down to the dock and all is right with the world again.
Anyone notice that the voice search sucks in comparison with CB? It worked much better on my old ATRIX 2.

What do you mean install shortcut? It's not on my launcher drawer, and when I go to Google Play and search for it the "Open" and "Uninstall" buttons are missing..
any ideas?
use a root explorer app and delete it from /system/app . install new version from play store
Awesome tip, I added it to my notification toggles, perfection

Just dug around a little, found it.
Add to homescreen --> Shortcuts --> Activities --> Voice Search --> Recognition Activity
Surely you found it by now, so this is for posterity, for other people who stumble upon this page like I did.
Great tip thank you..

I went to Shortcuts, but the first one that pops up is Bookmarks. Is there no other simple way? I can't download and install it because it's already installed...
Alternate Solution
For those who can't make the above solution work, try this: (OK, I'm not permitted to include a link because I'm a "Noob") Go to AndroidCentral and search for "Missing the Voice Search button? Here's the fix!!". It will also refer you to an app on Google Play called "QuickShortcutMaker".
Everything is in the tilte. I'm running ICS with the ROM BlindIce v12, and Apex launcher.
I saw that new apps have automatically a shortcut on launcher, and i want to disable it. I okked in every parameters, but maybe I missed something.
Thank for your help.

have you checked play store app settings?
there's an option there called 'add widget automatically' (or sth like this )
Seems not to work with jelly bean. Short cuts still comes
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
This may just be a behaviour of Jelly-Bean. I spent today playing with a Nexus 7 and it does exactly the same thing; any new app I install automatically puts an icon on the launcher screen for me.
I didn't see any option to disable this, but didn't look particularly closely I have to admit.

Is there a way to be able to set Google Now to open on a long press of the home button? When I do it, it gives me the option to hit the Google Now link but can't I set it like s voice was before? Thanks!

It should auto open if you long press the menu button.
You can do this under CM 10. I am not sure if you are rooted and interested in using that ROM though.

Download an app from the Play Store called Home2 Shortcut. This will allow you to change the double click of the home button to use Google Now, or any other application that you want instead of S Voice.
I do that with my un-rooted Galaxy S3 i535. It's fantastic, just beware because Google Now doesn't play nice with your bluetooth headset is all.

I do the same with apex launcher. Works great, and is quicker than double tapping the home button.

I think I have a similar issue. I am able to search after a reboot but after a while it stops working. I think there is a problem with cached processes. Try going to settings > apps > cached processes and stopping the Google Search process. Things should start working. It's not an ideal fix though. Hopefully it's a fixable software bug. I've submitted a bug report to Google so maybe you should try as well?

No problem. As I said, it's not an ideal issue but neither is it a total deal breaker. I wouldn't RMA the phone for such I thing I don't think. It obviously seems like a software problem so I sent through a bug report using the feedback function on the phone itself. Maybe if it's a widespread thing Google can actually take an active look at it and release a fix. to my unqualified mind it seems like there is a problem putting apps into the cached process. I've noticed with more experimenting that the search function seems to stop only after swiping the app away from the multi tasking tray...Seems as though the system is having trouble storing Google Search in cached processes.
Of course, I am not a proper developer so I could be totally wrong.
I'm glad the temporary fix works for you also!
