I'm trying to decide between the Galaxy S2 and the G2x. Anyone with a G2x want to chime in? Any thing you notice from owning it that makes it good or bad. Coming from an Evo here. And just phone related thoughts, not network. Thanks!
Best choice for you or me??? Read specs on both and decide what is best for you. Or search the forums I've seen this asked at least 3 times already.
G2X
Gs2 only coming to at&t

The good is unlocked bootloader, major developer support, near vanilla android, the ability to play tegra 2 games, and the screen isn't over saturated like the samoled is.
The bad is some units have lcd bleed, some people experience random reboots, and some people have gps problems. All of which other than the lcd bleed will be addressed in the coming month or so via a patch.
I haven't experienced any of the problems above. I have owned the phone since launch day and the next phone to potentially intrigue me will be the nexus 3 if the specs are right.
I know the GS2 is only on ATT. That's the only thing that might make me jump. I know the specs of both phones too. My point was what are the dealbreakers with this phone? Looking at specs and owning a phone are two seperate things. For me the Tegra 2 chipset is the biggie but I really like the screen of the GS2. I've also never owned an LG phone which is making me a little apprehensive.
Bye. My touch 4g, it's been almost a year, we had an awesome run, and your still one of my favorites, but Ive moved on to the g2x, and I haven't had any of the problems other are experiencing , this is a pretty awesome phone and I don't regret it, but if a new mytouch from HTC comes out ill be sure to go with that, until then ill be rocking the g2x.

Enjoy Is it really the fast and that nice?
That is one of the phones I am contemplating jumping ship for, how is LGs UI? You'll have to give a small review if you don't mind. Not sure if I want to go G2X or Sensation. Never owned an LG but I loooove HTC. Either way, good luck with the new phone.

Thanks guys, as for the phone itself its awesome I'm running bionix2, so I didn't really get accustomed to the stock UI, the screen itself is larger so typing is easier, and the colors seem allot deeper, I do miss my led notification light but that can be replaced with mods to the capasitive buttons (someone will come up with that), and the sensation is actually running a older processor arm a8 clocked at 1.2ghz vs the g2x arm a9 processer at 1ghz, so its actually better to get the g2x, I haven't had any problems and the update will fix any bugs, and by the time the sensation comes out the update will be released so either way I'm good.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I'm so fed up with HTC's lack of quality control that I've been looking at picking up a used Vibrant.
I love this device but after 7 phones, FINALLY getting a perfect phone and now a few months later having dust under the screen the romance is gone.
Let us know how it goes with the g2x. Maybe when the sensation comes out I'll give HTC another chance.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. Took my 5 phones to get to my perfect good screen then one month later dust under the top left corner of my screen.... And it's just getting worse. I love HTC but they quality control is horrendous. I don't care what people say about Samsung and their quality, but they make damn god phone's whether it's plastic or not. I've been trying to trade my phone for a Nexus S just because of this.
No problems here...
This is very interesting to read the users on this forum have exchanged their MT4G seven times. I have had absolutely no problems with my phone and I purchased it when it was released.

I got mine when it came out and it has the crap screen, but that was the only problem. But a few weeks ago i got a deal on one i couldn't pass on,with the good screen. I might sell that one, but i got a bad habit of keeping all my phones. Lol
I agree with the OP too, don't get the sensation. The CPU in it is actually outdated and QualComm already has a Quad-Core CPU in the works. Go with a Mali device or Tegra 2/3 .
G2x is quality control isn't that good either. My G2x has the worst LCD I've ever seen. It bleeds from all 4 corners and the battery only last 8 hours. I am running my own aosp rom.

Side question: Will football's pd15img.zip overwrite gfree or do I have to do that separately?
I really just can't bring myself to purchase anything produced by LG.....It is such a Sh** brand. I would rather a company that focuses on making one thing great than a bunch of things mediocre. Great, you put a sweet processor in your phone..you still suck LG.

So definitely no Samsung products for you, since they make more differentiating products than any manufacturer. The G2x is having problems, just go look at their forums, but a patch is coming out soon that should alleviate the problems, except for the LCD bleeding.
I have to say, a ton of LG Optimus Ts get sold I have never had to do troubleshooting on one. I would say most calls are about HTC or Motorola products. In my own personal experience of troubleshooting, I'd say the manufacturers that make many different products seem to have the least problem phones, when compared to the phone only manufacturers.

You are correct. I would not own a samsung phone either...they should stick with televisions. Also, look at the time the G2X came out. To think that it was worth upgrading from the glacier with the next wave of great phones coming out shortly is just silly.

The people with a good G2x, which is most, absolutely love their phone and the patch should fix the rest. Remember HTC made the HD2 and Motorola made the Cliq & Cliq XT. I cringe when I hear someone having a problem and I know exactly which line has the problem because one of the 3 phones above are the culprit. 1
Even with the G2x issues, LG and Samsung have a better track record than Motorola and HTC is problems with phones.
That may be true, they may love their phones. But to buy the G2X when the next big wave is about to come out makes no sense to me whatsoever. It is like purchasing a 2010 Ferrari a month before the 2011 comes out. (I use that example because smart phones are usually the same price, and that is a car where the price is not an issue). And as for the quality issue, I have never had an issue whatsoever with an HTC phone. I am a firm believer that 99% of the issues are user related. Like the guy who had 7 Mt4G's that wouldn't wake up on the stock ROM..c'mon now..
I loved HTC until recently. Had a flawless mt3g for almost a year and sold it for exactly what I paid for it. Here's the history with my glaciers.
1. Dust under screen.
2. Mushy power button and bad screen.
3. Bad screen.
4. Loud click from bottom.
5. Less loud click.
6. Keeper.
Three months later I have massive dust under screen.
7. Bad screen.
8. Mushy power button, scuffed up, bad emmc chip.
9. Bad screen.
At this point I gave up. I'm staying with #6 and shopping for a used Vibrant.

Like I said, you may be right. Maybe I just got lucky to get a good phone. I have had absolutely no issues. Good screen, good emmc chip, no dust under screen. I just associate LG with crappy products. I still would have waited for the Sensation.

What phones are coming out that outdo it? The G2x will get 2.3 very soon and has a tegra 2 processor that won't be outdone by the Sensation's chip. It may be faster processing speed(200Mhz) but many think the Tegra 2 processor is still faster than the Qualcomm.
You'll choose the Sensation if you want a 4.3" screen and the G2x if you want a 4" screen. They're made for different people, with speed and abilities being pretty well equal. The next jump won't happen until this fall with the quad-core processors.
Well I've been waiting 3 months to see how the HTC Sensation has faired, unfortunately I don't know anyone with one, only going off the forums.
I think I have come to the conclusion that I'm probably going to look for a different phone, I've has a HTC Wildfire for over 6 months and really wanted to go down the HTC Sensation route, problem is I'm reading nothing but problems with the phone, and more worrying is HTC's flippant disregard for accepting that there are some serious issues with this phone. Am mainly speaking about loss of signal and dust under the screen. Are theses issue as prevalent as described in the forums?
Would appreciate some feedback from someone whose had one for a couple of months or so.
Thanks in advance.
I haven't had any problems with my Sensation.
The problem with looking at peoples experience with the phone here is that they will most likely only post when something bad happens, you wont hear about all the times that it's worked perfectly.
Buy or not?
I like mine. No dust under the screen. This is the best phone Tmo has of this type. If I were going to buy a phone outright and unlock it I might consider another phone.
Nothing wrong with the phone. For me p personally I'm going back to my Desire HD as my main phone, but only because I'm a chronic hacker and the state of custom rom development on that phone is much more mature. In a couple if months as things advance here I will once again be putting the Sensation in my pocket every morning.
Overall I love this phone but I get better battery life out of the Dhd. The only reason is Cyanogenmod with aggressive undervolting. Once I can do the same to this phone I shall return.
Out of the box this is decidedly the bette phone.

Hi, I was at the same position like you. And I bought Sensation. It is very good phone and I have no problems with it. It works just perfectly.
Buy it =)
go with it,HTC is good brand
I've had my Sensation here in Canada for 4 weeks now, and I have no complaints about the phone at all. Works great, looks great, and the battery easily lasts all day.
Many thanks for all your helpful replies, think I'm gonna bite the bullet.
Next question is where to buy it from... have had bad dealings with carphone warehouse, so looking like the internet
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
There is most likely gonna be a problem with the phone if you buy it used.
I think it's a sin to sell a perfect Sensation.
Best phone I've owned so far, still waiting for US tmobile version of gs2(Hercules) but the sensation will do even gonna keep it as my back up once the gs2 arrives... Get it, its a awesome phone
If there's likely to be a problem with it I think I'll need to buy it from a store so returning will be easier, just don't want to use carphone warehouse as their returns policy is pants. May try o2 shop.
I was in the same boat as you but have decided to go for it. Just keep in mind that more people post on forums to get help with a problem rather than sing the praises of a device. Yes, the Sensation does has its share of issues but lots of people have no issues whatsoever.
That being said, definitely buy from a place that has a good return/exchange policy and get a device with an HTC warranty so you're covered if problems do arise.
Good luck!
Just get the sensation, you wont regret it
Sure!
If you don't like just sell it and lose a couple bucks, what's the big deal?
.. to join team HTC Sensation XE!
I'm going to exchange my Samsung Galaxy Nexus this week with o2 due to the HUGE palava going on with the volume/rf interference issues.
I had an HTC Desire previously, so I get the feeling the Sensation is pretty much it's big brother?
Are there any issues I should be looking for upon receipt of the XE? Or were things such as dust under the screen sorted out for the updated handset?
Is it worth rooting the XE? If yes, why? What are the benefits?
In hindsight I wish i'd just got the XE, it was my first choice but the samsung launch won me over. I feel dirty
There is a lot of issues mentioned here on forum, battery, dust, and so on and so on...
But none of this happened on my XE! and battery is bigger, so just give it a try
I rooted it in first day, just because stock rom drains battery faster, on custom rom I having 2+ day's without charging.
And I love my XE
I had desire before too, you'll love your sensation
had dust under screen within 3 weeks of usage , phone was in soft gel case with a screen protector. Id defintly advise to check screen i looked at 3 before purchase and there was a massive difference in 2 of the 3 like night and day
Good luck on your purchase i would have liked to keep this phone becouse i bagged a great deal on it but i just couldent be bothered swapping again so just canceled contract. Im back on my htc desire and couldent be happyier ill be waiting for the next round of phones before looking again
wouldnt do it.
galaxy nexus = awesome screen.
and my backcover-unibody has issues so my screen is not in the unibody correctly..
seems u cant open the phone a few times, bcause of the unibody..
hey mate
i dont have any issues with my htc sensation . I've got it as a free upgarde from 3uk and doesnt have a single defect. It appears though that some people they do have , allthough this didnt stop me from getting my sensations and honestly i love it! except the battery life .... but then again my htc desire didnt have better ....lol
For me get the htc sensation nice looking ,speedy lots of custom ROMs.excellent build quality.
Good Luck with your choice
To be honest, Samsung's response to the volume issue on the nexus hasn't filled me with confidence.
It IS a beautiful phone but just feels to thin, and it's not too comfortable for my girly hands to hold.
I got the Sensation XE from O2
Not a problem with dust etc and the screen is excellent . I may upgrade in March to the Nexus when all the issues have been resolved , if they ever do !
To be honest though , its dual core running at 1.5 Ok could have come with more user available RAM but I have no slow downs etc .
If you get the O2 version can you dump the ROM fist as I have made mine fully stock now and would need the O2 version of the ROM if I ever needed to take it back.
Yep I know I'm a Numpty for not backing up in the first place
The nexus fix is software related and in on the way according to the "androidauthority" site, that goes for the European nexus ,u can have a look on the article if u like .I can't post any links because I am n00b here

I have my Sensation for almost 2 months and no dust, no touchscreen issue, nothing. Just wifi deathgrip, which is not a dealbreaker and rarely the screenshot capture bug (also not a dealbreaker); but I wouldn't exchange a Galaxy Nexus for a Sensation (only if you really like Sense), I would wait for the volume bug to be solved.
Already exchanged it, prefer sense as i've come from an HTC Desire. I'm not one to get my nerd on about cutting edge tech specs etc. Much happier now (and that's what matters, right? )
ICS is gonna rock on this phone!

It looks promising and would get ics but I'm not too sure how the adreno 220 would work on a 720p display. I would not recommend the galaxy nexus cause as far as I have heard that ti processor uses the old galaxy s g.p.u Fail. Wait, does 02 have that?

http://androidcommunity.com/google-confirms-galaxy-nexus-volume-bugfix-incoming-20111123/
Really? Loud clamor about this volume issue (which is all relative because only a small number of people have this issue anyways) only started to come up a few days ago, and Google has already said that they are working on a fix. They addressed the issue and announced they are working on it literally only a few days after angry Galaxy Nexus owners took to the internet. How much faster do you want? Of course we don't know how long the fix will take, but at least they've already acknowledged the issue, and I'm assuming the fix will come very quickly as they will want to have it spotless before it hits the U.S.
To be honest, HTC's response to serving Sensation owners half-baked Sense software, low volume problems, dust issues, and death grip problems hasn't filled me with confidence at all, because they never did respond at all.
At the time I wrote that, Samsung UK had up until that point not even issued a statement of acknowledgement and been deleting posts from their Facebook page! The phone should never have been allowed to be sold in the state it was.
The fix seems to be a software solution to a seemingly hardware problem (long thread on the G Nex forum..). Is this just going to be masking the problem?
I also had a fault with the phone powering off when it was plugged into usb charging and had reached 100%.
The Sensation XE was the phone I originally had my eye on, before the Nexus was even launched. I was won over, but when I actually had the handset, the faults and the physical dimensions and FEEL of the phone just weren't things I was prepared to work with. The XE is more comfortable for me to hold, I was actually getting aches in my hand from the Nexus. Probably because being female, my hands are smaller than that of an adult male.
I had 14 days from purchase of the phone to swap for another, no questions asked. I had to make the decision this week as I personally don't have time later in the 14 days to return it.
So there we go, I don't see why I have to justify my actions but oh well. I've made the right decision for me. The Galaxy Nexus is a bloody fantastic phone but I just didn't get along with it.
Honestly, what's the point of having an awesome phone if you're not 100% happy with it?

Yeah I wouldn't do it either. The Galaxy Nexus's volume issue will be solved soon - and it's a better phone on paper. Funny, I love the Sensation (XE/XL) but I'd still suggest the Nexus over it.
Edit: Read OPs post about hand cramps and whatnot, I read the first post and assumed it was only the volume woes, but I see it now. Definitely go Sensation.

Hi the title says it all I'm thinking of trading my One S in for a Galaxy S 3 I just want to hear peoples opinions and thoughts on this matter
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Specs wise they're both beasts. Enough so that it doesn't matter which one wins which benchmarks.
The most important difference is the size/feel in your hand. If the SGS3 feels good to you, then sure, go ahead.
Personally I find it too large and too plasticky. And of course anyone whose taste and opinion are different than mine is a moron.
If you want bigger and sharper screen, more storage, better/larger developing community, better support from Samsung for updates, removable battery, better 1080P recording then yes, if you're aren't bothered by those areas then no.
Although I wouldn't buy anything now, when we have the LG nexus 4 and supposedly a HTC nexus 5 (specs may be the same as the HTC butterfly), which will be announced on the 29th October.
Out of the current phones, which are on the market, I would get the one XL and RAZR HD instead of the GS 3.
Well I like the idea of extra storage space and more dev support, the fact you don't need to unlock the bootloader is a plus for me
I did go down town today and held a GS3 and it felt comfortable in the hand the size wasn't really an issue so I guess that's the decider

If I had the offer to trade my HTC One S for a Galaxy S 3 I would do it in a heartbeat lol. I still haven't even opened my One S mainly from all the bad news I read about it here.
I came from the s3 to the one s. Don't miss it. Removable battery and more storage were the only plus Imo. I like the one s feel and build a lot better. I had to run an extended battery on my s3 because there's mysterious battery drain on every rom. My buddy has a Verizon s3 and even with lte his oem battery would last twice as long as mine. It's all about personal preference and if you want a bigger phone and more storage the s3 would be good. Performance wise the phones are pretty equal.

What bad news?
The chipping?
My black one S is still in perfect condition apart from the USB port area, had it since April.
The signal?
Never had an issue with it, signal has never been as consistent as what I would have liked, but since the last update, it is more consistent and mostly full bars instead of 3 bars and the voice reception has dramatically improved when I have H/3G data connection.
Touch button issue?
Never had that.
Only thing I am disappointed with is the support from HTC for updates, but then again there isn't much else they can improve apart from improving wifi and mobile reception even further and plus the support for the X isn't any better. The NLED sucks compared to the GS 3 NLED.
Remember just because people report problems, doesn't mean that it will apply to everyone, hardly anyone will ever come onto a forum to post the positive things, only if they have a problem, plus unfortunately there seems to be a lot of one S haters on this forum.

You're letting the warranty go down without even using it. It would be better to find about the problem now when you still have your warranty instead of opening it two years later, finding a problem, and having to cover all the costs instead (i'm not implying it has a problem, but it could do)

Thanks Guy's very helpful info. I guess I was disappointed in the hboot issues and seeing how many are having issues after updating up to 1.14 and all. I'm used to flashing freely with my old nexus S and my new GNex and everything i read in here has been very disappointing. I just worried I made a big mistake since i got one of these for everyone in my family lol. Thanks again, I been thinking about saying the heck with it and keeping it, i just can't see the point in having 2 phones. It really is a wonderful phone for normal users. It doesn't seem to need root except for getting rid of the bloat, using root required apps, volume wake and theming. Thanks again guy's made me feel better lol.

Yeah I hope so!
Likewise, although not as long. I find 4.3" too small now and want bigger! Love the note II screen, but the device is just too big to carry in my pockets and comfortably use with one hand. Plus, I personally can't see HTC supporting this phone for long as it isn't very popular and they have released a ton of other android phones and will be releasing even more in the next few months, meaning the S will get even less attention. Hope to get 4.2, but I have a funny feeling we won't or if they do, it will take forever......
Root and flash ROMs is an option. I had a read through the guides last night, after reading that we won't get JB till December (although I probably won't see JB on my phone till January) but I really cba with doing that again and flashing a new ROM every other week and then encountering annoying niggles.
So yeah, I will see what the LG nexus 4 is like and possibly other nexus devices largely due to updates/support and bigger screen. Although I do prefer sense overall compared to stock android, but I want a phone, which has good support.
Unfortunately the build quality and looks won't be anywhere as good as the S
The RAZR HD looks like a great option as well:

Click to collapse
If your entire family have one, then surely you know what to expect
BTW you can disable most of the bloat by going to settings>apps>click on app you want disabled and then click "disable" in the top right corner. Although you can't disable some stock sense apps like the launcher, browser, maps etc.
