Should I buy a Sensation? - HTC Sensation

Well I've been waiting 3 months to see how the HTC Sensation has faired, unfortunately I don't know anyone with one, only going off the forums.
I think I have come to the conclusion that I'm probably going to look for a different phone, I've has a HTC Wildfire for over 6 months and really wanted to go down the HTC Sensation route, problem is I'm reading nothing but problems with the phone, and more worrying is HTC's flippant disregard for accepting that there are some serious issues with this phone. Am mainly speaking about loss of signal and dust under the screen. Are theses issue as prevalent as described in the forums?
Would appreciate some feedback from someone whose had one for a couple of months or so.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't had any problems with my Sensation.
The problem with looking at peoples experience with the phone here is that they will most likely only post when something bad happens, you wont hear about all the times that it's worked perfectly.

Buy or not?
I like mine. No dust under the screen. This is the best phone Tmo has of this type. If I were going to buy a phone outright and unlock it I might consider another phone.

Nothing wrong with the phone. For me p personally I'm going back to my Desire HD as my main phone, but only because I'm a chronic hacker and the state of custom rom development on that phone is much more mature. In a couple if months as things advance here I will once again be putting the Sensation in my pocket every morning.
Overall I love this phone but I get better battery life out of the Dhd. The only reason is Cyanogenmod with aggressive undervolting. Once I can do the same to this phone I shall return.
Out of the box this is decidedly the bette phone.

two words...thumbs up~

Hi, I was at the same position like you. And I bought Sensation. It is very good phone and I have no problems with it. It works just perfectly.
Buy it =)

go with it,HTC is good brand

I've had my Sensation here in Canada for 4 weeks now, and I have no complaints about the phone at all. Works great, looks great, and the battery easily lasts all day.

Many thanks for all your helpful replies, think I'm gonna bite the bullet.
Next question is where to buy it from... have had bad dealings with carphone warehouse, so looking like the internet
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App

There is most likely gonna be a problem with the phone if you buy it used.
I think it's a sin to sell a perfect Sensation.

Best phone I've owned so far, still waiting for US tmobile version of gs2(Hercules) but the sensation will do even gonna keep it as my back up once the gs2 arrives... Get it, its a awesome phone

If there's likely to be a problem with it I think I'll need to buy it from a store so returning will be easier, just don't want to use carphone warehouse as their returns policy is pants. May try o2 shop.

I was in the same boat as you but have decided to go for it. Just keep in mind that more people post on forums to get help with a problem rather than sing the praises of a device. Yes, the Sensation does has its share of issues but lots of people have no issues whatsoever.
That being said, definitely buy from a place that has a good return/exchange policy and get a device with an HTC warranty so you're covered if problems do arise.
Good luck!

Just get the sensation, you wont regret it

Sure!
If you don't like just sell it and lose a couple bucks, what's the big deal?

Galaxy S 4G, Should I keep it?

Hi Guys I recently bought this phone that I like overall. Recently i have been running out of space on the internal memory. I am really not here to bring down the hopes of anyone on this phone but I want a real honest answer since I have spent 500.00 on this phone and still have one more day to exchange it.
Do you think i should exchange this phone for a G2? Should solve the Internal memory issue. Dev seems to be very active and I am hoping to keep this phone for at least a year if not more so i will be probably rooting and customizing this phone with new ROMS. Galaxy S 4g is also my first Android phone and I know is newer than G2 but not sure if it's actually better .
So your advised and thoughts are greatly appreciate it since tomorrow I will be making my final decision wether to keep this one or not.
So my questions is should i exchange this phone taking in consideration that I will be keeping for at least a year and also will be hoping to add new ROMS and rooting. Also need a phone with good battery life and snappy.
Any other input/thoughts/ideas that i might have missed would be also appreciate it and thanks for helping me choose wisely.
I think you should keep the phone. Just doing the fota fix gives me 400mb+ free internal memory and i bet there might be a way to free up even more space. I think 400mb is A LOT of space, just transfer all the app you can onto the SD card and you will never have momory issues.

Thanks for you answer Icy56. Anyone else has any other opinion?
If you really want to be able to really experience xda and what an android phone can really do, at this point, your g2 idea is the way to go. Found myself in the EXACT predicamant your in myself less than a week ago. Got a brand new 4g, thinking it would be all that and a bag of chips after having a vibrant and seeing how great the galaxy s phones can be when there is an active community. You gotta be honest with yourself (if for no other reason than the five hundred dollars involved) about this ever happening with the 4g.
Its not a next generation or a must have upgrade phone, ESPECIALLY from a dev standpoint, so while the community around this phone will get a bit more active, it will never explode because its not a major release phone, not to mention touchjizz makes devs lives hell from what I gather.
If you like the phone the way it is, by all means keep it, its a beautiful phone. But if you want to really experience what all your android friends have been talking about with custom roms and such, jump ship.

Lol, Hopefully one day I can have the wealth to make people happy and give phones away.
The G2 has a keyboard... Why is this tech still produced adding weight size and increased chance of hinge breaking when Swype and touch screens are FAR superior... My 2 cents
Galaxy S 4G
If you spent $500 on the phone. I'd trade it for the G2X if it's within your 30 day period. I wouldn't trade it for the G2.
I think in California is 30 day period. In Minnesota where I live is only 14 days.
Well, Thanks guys for your answers.
I have decided to keep my Galaxy S 4G. Hope to have great conversations about this phone.
Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll enjoy some Roms once they come out.

I think it's a good ideal to keep it. Just follow the guys in the dev section and pray that custom roms come along sooner than later.
Not really 2 cents, but the way I got mine was actually by selling a modded HTC HD2 I was using, and basically got this phone for 50$ when it was all said and done.. yet i got that much for my HD2.. lol
Anyhow, MY plan is to hold onto this until the HTC pyramid or Galaxy S 2 come out, those are my next jump ship phones. And additionally..
With the experience I had with this phone.. I got it maybe a few weeks after it came out.. Frankly I learned from that, I plan to wait at least a few months before I decide which phone to jump ship to, rather than get it right away.. that way I'll REALLY know which one is better.

So, I Am A Little Scared of Buying This Device

I am interested in buying a Mytouch 4G to replace my HD7 which I expect to sell soon, however, based on the numerous issues that people have reported about this device, I am quite frankly scared of buying it. The biggest issues appear to be dust and the bad eMMC chip on some devices that prevent flashing. Since I am prepaid, I have to pay for shipping to send in the faulty device first prior to the replacement device, so these issues obviously cause me to worry a little about the device.
The interesting thing is that I heard T-Mobile will warranty exchange the device in store even after the buyer remorse period? Is this true, because this will certainly alleviate some of my worries.
Thanks for spending time to answer my questions.
I really recommend you wait till HTC and others release their Quad-Cores devices and maybe around the release of IceCream Sandwich(2.4). This phone will get replaced eventually by it's successor. The Emmc is a 50/50 thing, you either get it or dont...Or you get a bad screen or good screen.

I expect HTC to continue using the same dual core chip in the Sensation for at least a good portion of 2011, and hopefully they will move to quad core by Q4 or 2012 (if we survive). The Sensation is again plagued by the dust issue it seems, the G2X has the random reboots and light bleed issue, the G2 has been discontinued lol, so that leaves the Mytouch which again has plenty of issues. I don't mind the bad/good screen issue as I am accustomed to the LCD on the HD7, but the dust issue and eMMC is really killing me right now as to whether or not purchase the device.

Because of those issues, I wouldn't recommend anyone buying the MT4G now. Who wants to purchase an expensive phone just to deal with a bad screen, dust under the screen, and a potentially failing eMMC? Combine the quality problems with the fact that it's already almost 8 months old, and it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I would do what Ace42 said and hold off for a quad core device later this year. If you go ahead and buy a MT4G, right away check to make sure you have the good screen and good eMMC. If either of those things aren't there, bring it back while you're still in the remorse period.

Last time I tried to get a warranty swap they offered me a Vibrant. I couldnt get a MT4G at all. There weren't even any being sold in the store.
A Vibrant? Was it due to you having more than 3 warranty replacement? I believe TMobile offers you a new device if you swap the same phone three times.

What's this about the emmc chips? I searched through the forums and only found a couple of posts about them, doesn't seem to be a big problem. What does it affect?
I just bought mt4g for my friend from craigslist for 175 bucks and I confirmed that it had a good screen and emmc chip. You might consider doing that, that would be good to hold you over til the end of the year.

I don't own one so I am not completely sure but the bad chip dies out after a while and basically bricks the device. You can't flash any roms and the recovery will just continue to error out.

I really wouldn't let it worry you too much man. We currently have 3 of them and all of them have a good chip. There is an easy way to verify which chip you have, and not even all of the people who have the "bad" chip have had theirs go out on them.
Not to mention that no one has even definitely proven that the "bad" chip is the cause, it's still very speculative.

I wouldn't be scared at all to buy this phone. Even if dev stopped right now, we have tons of solid ROM options and mod options, and the specs on this phone really are amazing. A lot of highend new phones don't have as much RAM, and our processor is set at 1 GHz but is way better. As appealing as the sensation is, I honestly will prob keep this phone until it dies, I break it, I get a new free phone, or I die...and I'm only 25
All that being said, I wouldn't pay too much for a MT4G just cuz if you're going to shell out for a new phone you might as well get the best you can right now. I still recommend this phone to my friends who ask, and consider one of the better phones out there right now.

Is HTC Sensation Sensational? Help Plz

hey guys, hows it goin?
well i think this thread is like a message to all sensation owners right now
is the phone worth the money?
i really loved sensation since the first moment i saw it, The build quality
Camera, everything else is just epic but now after it has been released
i found alot of 'Hey i got a problem in my sensation cellphone!'
honestly after readin all these threads im kinda afraid to buy it now,
many people have said theres some issue with the Lockscreen Ring
or it lags sometimes or it gets so Hot or or or
so im really hesitating now, do i get the sensation? or think about another great phone like Samsung Galaxy SII?? but the thing is i really hate touch wiz its freakin boring, i dunno im so confused, can anyone help me plz?
Every phone is going to have problems. I paid full price for the phone and I don't regret it. Of course I sold my Nexus S to help pay for it, but I'm not disappointed at all. The lockscreen lag and dust under the screen that other people are having, I don't.....(knock on wood).
But I say its worth every penny. I've never been happier with a phone.
Just like with any other forum, you're going to read about the problems here. I bet if we took a poll from all sensation users you'd end up seeing an industry average in terms of problems. Not everyone is having these issues, it just seems like a high user-to-problem ratio because of the people who signed up specifically because of their issue. You rarely see people signing up for forums to praise a product. Hope that helps.
well everybody will have problems with their phone. I was thinking really hard before buying sensation that should i buy sensation or galaxy s2? I never had a htc before nor an android samsung. I checked xda forums a lot for about 4 weeks. I read what people are saying about sensation and galaxy s2. Then i took a leap of faith and decided to buy sensation.
Now i don't think there is any lag using the phone. I got no dust under the screen and i think sense 3.0 is a great interface. Battery life seems ok but i think it will got better once we have s-off (everything will got better )
I can feel your hesitation but i don't regret i paid 470 pounds for sensation. it's worth every single dime of it. Once you see the qHD screen you will notice the differance.
Just buy the sensation ,why pay more or same price for something you know you don't like already. It's worth it

Keep Amaze or go back to Sensation

Ok where to begin...
I got a Sensation last thursday 10/6/11. Absolutely loved the phone. Loved everything about it. how it felt and looked and how it ran and literally everything. A couple days later i got dust under screen. Just one little spec but enough to bug me. I took it back that Tuesday the 11th. They exchanged it no problems. Went back to work and started setting it up. Had a bigger piece of dust out of the box! So I went back later that day after work to get a 3rd. They guys there were real nice but said we can get you another phone but who knows what will happen. So the next day I got the Amaze. The phone is great. Everything the Sensation had only a little better performance wise. Not a lot but you could tell. Although I still like the feel of the Sensation a lot better. BUT...... right now the wifi calling is not supported and the phone needs an update but no one knows when this will happen. And I NEED wifi calling. I don't know how I got by before!
So to get to the point my big question is do I wait for the Amaze update to get wifi calling or go back to a Sensation praying that I get a dust free phone?
I can't solve your problem but I can tell you that the chances of you getting dust under the screen of your next sensation are extremely high.
Many of us are plagued with it. Some have exchanged their phones 5+ times and got dust under the screen on all of them. I'm personally on my 3rd one and this one has the issue as well. At this point I just don't care enough to keep replacing/rooting them for just a couple small specs of dust.
I played with the Amaze yesterday and was not impressed with it at all.
I might get the Amaze soon. I can sell the Sensation and probably come.out with a little bit of cash with the swap. I got a hookup at tmobile to upgrade anytimw lol. They already have temp root in the development section. Its a nice solid looking phone with nice features!

Did you ever get dust under your screen or have any problems with call quality?
I would say keep it. T-Mo seems proud of their wi-fi calling and I'm sure that they won't let their new flagship go without it for very long.
I considered waiting for the Amaze but IMHO the new features weren't worth the extra money. I did exchange my first Sensation due to dust yesterday (so far so good on the new one but it's only been a day), but neither had problems with call quality.
Just wait for the prime

I like the look of the S4G more!
i myself have been considering returning the amaze and getting back my sensation. although i don't see any serious issues with the amaze, i feel like the only differences in the 2, besides the look and feel, are software differences, which can be easily solved by a ROM. I think the 2 have the exact same hardware, but i could be wrong, if im wrong someone please let me know what the hardware differences are. i know the amaze is 1.5 ghz compared to the sensations 1.2 ghz, but if im not mistaken its the same exact processor just clocked higher... Also, ive been considering going back to the sensation solely for the fact of how many great dev are developing for the sensation.... what to do, what to do....
The Amaze has the 42 mbps modem and here in Detroit I was pulling 14 mbps down consistently. Also has more RAM which will hopefully take care of the Sense restarts. I want the Amaze but like the OP, I absolutely need wifi calling. Zero signal at work.

Jumping ship soon..

.. to join team HTC Sensation XE!
I'm going to exchange my Samsung Galaxy Nexus this week with o2 due to the HUGE palava going on with the volume/rf interference issues.
I had an HTC Desire previously, so I get the feeling the Sensation is pretty much it's big brother?
Are there any issues I should be looking for upon receipt of the XE? Or were things such as dust under the screen sorted out for the updated handset?
Is it worth rooting the XE? If yes, why? What are the benefits?
In hindsight I wish i'd just got the XE, it was my first choice but the samsung launch won me over. I feel dirty
There is a lot of issues mentioned here on forum, battery, dust, and so on and so on...
But none of this happened on my XE! and battery is bigger, so just give it a try
I rooted it in first day, just because stock rom drains battery faster, on custom rom I having 2+ day's without charging.
And I love my XE
I had desire before too, you'll love your sensation
had dust under screen within 3 weeks of usage , phone was in soft gel case with a screen protector. Id defintly advise to check screen i looked at 3 before purchase and there was a massive difference in 2 of the 3 like night and day
Good luck on your purchase i would have liked to keep this phone becouse i bagged a great deal on it but i just couldent be bothered swapping again so just canceled contract. Im back on my htc desire and couldent be happyier ill be waiting for the next round of phones before looking again
wouldnt do it.
galaxy nexus = awesome screen.
and my backcover-unibody has issues so my screen is not in the unibody correctly..
seems u cant open the phone a few times, bcause of the unibody..
hey mate
i dont have any issues with my htc sensation . I've got it as a free upgarde from 3uk and doesnt have a single defect. It appears though that some people they do have , allthough this didnt stop me from getting my sensations and honestly i love it! except the battery life .... but then again my htc desire didnt have better ....lol
For me get the htc sensation nice looking ,speedy lots of custom ROMs.excellent build quality.
Good Luck with your choice
To be honest, Samsung's response to the volume issue on the nexus hasn't filled me with confidence.
It IS a beautiful phone but just feels to thin, and it's not too comfortable for my girly hands to hold.
I got the Sensation XE from O2
Not a problem with dust etc and the screen is excellent . I may upgrade in March to the Nexus when all the issues have been resolved , if they ever do !
To be honest though , its dual core running at 1.5 Ok could have come with more user available RAM but I have no slow downs etc .
If you get the O2 version can you dump the ROM fist as I have made mine fully stock now and would need the O2 version of the ROM if I ever needed to take it back.
Yep I know I'm a Numpty for not backing up in the first place
The nexus fix is software related and in on the way according to the "androidauthority" site, that goes for the European nexus ,u can have a look on the article if u like .I can't post any links because I am n00b here

I have my Sensation for almost 2 months and no dust, no touchscreen issue, nothing. Just wifi deathgrip, which is not a dealbreaker and rarely the screenshot capture bug (also not a dealbreaker); but I wouldn't exchange a Galaxy Nexus for a Sensation (only if you really like Sense), I would wait for the volume bug to be solved.
Already exchanged it, prefer sense as i've come from an HTC Desire. I'm not one to get my nerd on about cutting edge tech specs etc. Much happier now (and that's what matters, right? )
ICS is gonna rock on this phone!

It looks promising and would get ics but I'm not too sure how the adreno 220 would work on a 720p display. I would not recommend the galaxy nexus cause as far as I have heard that ti processor uses the old galaxy s g.p.u Fail. Wait, does 02 have that?

Really? Loud clamor about this volume issue (which is all relative because only a small number of people have this issue anyways) only started to come up a few days ago, and Google has already said that they are working on a fix. They addressed the issue and announced they are working on it literally only a few days after angry Galaxy Nexus owners took to the internet. How much faster do you want? Of course we don't know how long the fix will take, but at least they've already acknowledged the issue, and I'm assuming the fix will come very quickly as they will want to have it spotless before it hits the U.S.
To be honest, HTC's response to serving Sensation owners half-baked Sense software, low volume problems, dust issues, and death grip problems hasn't filled me with confidence at all, because they never did respond at all.
At the time I wrote that, Samsung UK had up until that point not even issued a statement of acknowledgement and been deleting posts from their Facebook page! The phone should never have been allowed to be sold in the state it was.
The fix seems to be a software solution to a seemingly hardware problem (long thread on the G Nex forum..). Is this just going to be masking the problem?
I also had a fault with the phone powering off when it was plugged into usb charging and had reached 100%.
The Sensation XE was the phone I originally had my eye on, before the Nexus was even launched. I was won over, but when I actually had the handset, the faults and the physical dimensions and FEEL of the phone just weren't things I was prepared to work with. The XE is more comfortable for me to hold, I was actually getting aches in my hand from the Nexus. Probably because being female, my hands are smaller than that of an adult male.
I had 14 days from purchase of the phone to swap for another, no questions asked. I had to make the decision this week as I personally don't have time later in the 14 days to return it.
So there we go, I don't see why I have to justify my actions but oh well. I've made the right decision for me. The Galaxy Nexus is a bloody fantastic phone but I just didn't get along with it.
Honestly, what's the point of having an awesome phone if you're not 100% happy with it?

The XE is more comfortable for me to hold, I was actually getting aches in my hand from the Nexus. Probably because being female, my hands are smaller than that of an adult male.
I had 14 days from purchase of the phone to swap for another, no questions asked. I had to make the decision this week as I personally don't have time later in the 14 days to return it.
So go, I don't see why I have to justify my actions but oh well. I've made the right decision for me. The Galaxy Nexus is a bloody fantastic phone but I just didn't get along with it.
Honestly, what's the point of having an awesome phone if you're not 100% happy with it?

i agree with everything you said, i too would probably have made the same choice as you, some people are just obsessed with having the newest/latest and as everyone "should" know, thats not always the best choice or best device...

Yeah I wouldn't do it either. The Galaxy Nexus's volume issue will be solved soon - and it's a better phone on paper. Funny, I love the Sensation (XE/XL) but I'd still suggest the Nexus over it.
Edit: Read OPs post about hand cramps and whatnot, I read the first post and assumed it was only the volume woes, but I see it now. Definitely go Sensation.
Wasn't it tough to go back to a qhd from a 720p display?

owned my sensation since August and so far there's no problems with dust or anything like that. loving it!
No issues with mine at all.
I like GN but since ICS is coming to Sensation I see no point in upgrading.
I do not like sense on it though. This "3D" scroll is nothibg but pissing me off. I wont root as I develop apps so stock is the way for me to go.
