Changing phone this thursday, want to know if Skyrocket is worth it - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey guys, yeah as the description says. I'm pretty much giving away my infuse. But i want to know if the Skyrocket or LTE (candian version) is even worth the purchase. And I'm definitley not getting note lol. But yeah any thoughts on if its a good purchase or not?

It might just be me, but every time I ponder replacing my Infuse, I check the phone's dev section first

Lol same with me. An android might have the best specs to date but without any devs, the phone is just another paperweight.
And on topic, I wouldn't get the Skyrocket just because the battery trade off isn't worth it. I'd go with the S2 if you're in a rush for a phone now but if you're willing to wait, then I hear Samsung's going to reveal the S3 in Q2.

1. sgs3

I would only goto the new galaxy if I would change phones.

Yeah un chaanging phones. But note won't be an upgrade option and only sII LTE is available for me to upgrade. Thought of nexus galaxy but lacking what I want.

Screw these phones, Wait for the SGS3 as albee320 suggests being the 1st on his list..... The SGS3 is said to have a Quad Core and 2gb of Ram.......That's a Monster!
Edit: Power Hungry Much? Multitasking Monster!

Oh. I thought CPU development was holding things up. Either way, I'm getting it when its released. The OP could always get a Galaxy S II i777 for the time being.

Until the next OS Jelly Bean rolls out, You Won't see any Cpu development as far as apps and games using dual core..... It's a waiting game right now.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486498
u might also check the htc sensationXL ... its a better buy..

Wait a few weeks and get the Note.
While the SGS3 will have better technology (better camera, quad-core, possible curved screen) it will only be a smidgen bigger than the Infuse. Not big enough IMO. I'd have screen envy whenever I'd see someone's Note.
Note will be the true monster of the smartphones for a long time.

if you are looking at the current line up of att phones then skyrocket is best. LG nitro is a total sgs2 rip off and even with the 1.5 ghz snapdragon dual core its a pig. I used one in the store on a fresh reboot and it was laggy as hell, it was a total disappointment and I hate sense so HTC isn't even in consideration for me. if you can see if they'll order a i777 sgs2 I'd get that despite the lack of lte. otherwise wait for something with some more development or the sgs3 or something.

Definitely wait for the sgs3 I read somewhere that it might have a 4.65 in screen so I'm waiting for that and if its like the sgs2 there will be plenty of development for it.

What one should I get the new nexus phone or the SGS 2 or the SGS 2 skyrocket and why was your reason for the one you chose?
Nexus, skyrocket is showing pretty bad reception to other devices during tests with pcmag.
When does nexus come out? Or has it already
Sent from my SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
Nexus was never announced for ATT. I just upgraded to a SGSII.
I've heard that the Galaxy Nexus is only going to be carrier subsidized on Verizon.
I wouldn't get either. I'm avoiding Samsung for the foreseeable future.

K I know you guys are all smart ppl can someone. I just got the Skyrocket yesterday but having some regret I think I'm going to go to the nexus on rogers but is it worth it?
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
The skyrocket has better specs and is lte capable. I think its far better plus ics is right around the corner. I had the skyrocketed from rogers as well sold it last week but its a amazing phone

Nexus is has old cpu and specs wise Rocket is best. Once we get ics our phone will be best in market.
Definitely keep the skyrocket. I think the nexus may have been a little overrated.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I think our opinions in this forum are a little biased, but that's because most of us LOVE our Skyrockets.
Definitely keep it. Skyrocket has a better processor and a better camera, if you need a couple of reasons...
The only thing I like more about the Nexus is the 720 screen. But for that, you can probably wait for the S3 or the S2 LTE HD (aka Skyrocket HD).
What parts are making you regret it?
The only thing that I don't like about the Skyrocket is the HDPI screen. It wouldn't normally bother me, but coming from an Evo 3D with QHD, it just seems kind of blurry. Other than that, this phone is absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the responses. Definitely clears up. SKYROCKET definitely has better hardware. But on Monday when the note comes out I'll make my decision....depends on the size of that thing.

Honestly I was drawn back by the design cause I came from infuse 4g which in my opinion has a more premium look. Lol...
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
I hear you about the screen its my one drawback as well. outside of that, this phone has been great thus far. Sucked to here the HD is going hit canada, but not until q2 which by then, more quad core devices are going to be on their way so its not as big of a deal.
I love my skyrocket. Its been the best phone to date I have had. infuse was ok but felt cheaper to me... have a white note coming next week. and cant wait. cause to me its like a bigger skyrocket.. with a few little extras.. but will keep my skyrocket on my spare line. etc..
Funny thing is.. on the skyrocket the stock rom has been so good havent felt the need to install another etc.. unlike say the inspire or infuse or atrix. or the 10 million other androids I have had in the past. etc..
I find it funny that people on the skyrocket forums are not as anal as people in infuse.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
Had the Skyrocket. It was good but since I didn't have LTE here it was pointless to keep. Galaxy Nexus is by far better in performance but since it doesn't have LTE skyrocket is faster IMHO

I wont get another Samsung until they really get something different. Maybe when they reach SGS5. I mean, take a look at Tmobiles line: Vibrant, SGS 4G, SGS2... I think they got another one "new" very alike... and what are we getting? Same phone with slightly different things. All we getting is the Vibrant, then Vibrant+, then Vibrant++ and so on. Let's not start talking about the RAM because I think 1GB is enough so a 0.5GB more doesn't make much impact. I mean, how many different things can you do at a time to consume that memory? Gmail, GTalk, Twitter, Angry Birds...? Come on!
My next phone has to be one that I could use with or as a tablet and/or computer. Maybe one with a dock or a hidden keyboard. Definitely, bigger screen and flash and better battery... wait I'm dreaming!
I suggest you take good care of the current phone and wait till something amazing comes.

Why would Samsung not put Android on a phone that is the flagship of their Android lineup? The Galaxy lineup is kinda like Motorola's Droid lineup. It wouldnt make sense to put WP7/8 or iOS on them.

I feel the same way. I strongly dislike touchwiz. I remove it and replace with a different launcher before I even flash a rom. I am eager to check out TW5 but I do not have very high expectations for it.
I would like to have the HTC but I have really grown to love my Samsung... even though they treat the SGS4g like the bastard child. With the GS3 being the flagship device I don't imagine to run into the same problems (well, not for as long at least) as we have the the SGS4g. Plus I just do not think I would be as happy with a dual core knowing that quad cores are just around the corner. JMO

Yep. I agree that was probably uncalled for. Sorry to thekid1. A better answer may be to wait until the new Samsung is released and for the old model to drop in price. Thekid1 has asked about things before that are easy to research.
I would never ask an internet forum how I should spend my hard earned money, but that is me. I wish all my clients would ask me to how to spend their money.
Like someone said before if you want to get updates get a Nexus and don't waste your money on any other android phone. I'm done with non Nexus devices I'm tired of the lack of suppose all the manufactures have for phones. You won't get much suppose from Samsung been there with the Vibrant they will release a very slightly revised S3 3 months later and forget you exist. No thanks.

Just get the One S. It is insanely fast and is built really well. I love it for a couple key reasons:
1. It has the new snapdragon S4 which is based off the newer smaller A15 architecture rather than the A9 which is in the Gs3 and almost all other phones right now. The A15 is more powerful and uses less energy.
2. It has a smaller 4.2" screen which in my opinion is the biggest a screen should be.
3. Build quality is really good and feels good in my hand.
That is my grain of salt for consideration.

I've stopped trolling and I don't think the gs4g phone is worth it anymore. I'm happy that devs are still working on it but I think I need to move on instead of begging for a new update. I've almost forgotten there are other options out there.
I don't know if it's still like this but my first android phone was a mytouch 3g slide. HTC made it and that phone was the biggest pain in the butt to get rooted due to the locked boot loader. I got the s2 and have been very happy with it.

The HTC one s has been majorly upgraded it runs ics and sense 4 ( sense 4 is infinitely better than touchwiz if for no other reason the fact that touchwiz5 can be flashed as a zip onto the one s) with no worries to the one s out of the box so you get best of both worlds) has an awesome 4.3 in 900 by 560 screen res but easily a one handed device due to the thin design. Has an amazing camera a great dual core 1.5 MHz thingy ma bob (not the most tech specific term) and i could definately see the smoothness was comparable to the one x's and the gs3 but it has no expandable memory or access to battery. Oh and a HUUUUGGGE plus is that the one s has an alpha cm10 build already. So pretty much the s one is better than the s2 in every thing except for storage, price, and nfc. Seems like a no brainer right! Its just that with a 2 yr contract the one s is $150 vs the gs2's wapping 0 dollars. I could wait for the price to drop but it was at 50$ back in April when I couldn't upgrade so I doubt the price will drop that much. I feel like this post may have answered by own question lol.

I would get the galaxy s 2 (or 3 but you didn't mention it). HTC one s has a **** ton of hardware issues that even HTC has admitted

agreed but unfortunately the s3 isn't an option because it costs more than double my budget

For me the deciding factor would be the development community. Which one is strong and friendly.

I've seen both communities and because they're both popular their community is thriving. Like I said both have jb builds that are improving each day. J doubt either phone will be left behind

I'd go for HTC One S for the looks.
I'd go for [email protected]!ing fake phones from China so that i can have a Galaxy S2 look alike phone running sense, an most unstable phone tgat can be die whenever it like and a cheap phone (just 50 usd or so) that dont have to be unlocked for carriers lmfao

I never said sense is bad. Just that you have a hard on for it.

Go look at the s2 forum, I'm running cm10 alpha on mine right now and it is official lol. It was up in the air for me between the one s and s2 as well. I would rather have reliable hardware

I'd wait til later in the year to see what the new Nexus device/devices will be. The GS4G, and mainly it's dev community, is more than enough to suffice until then

Honestly I didn't know what the big deal was when I was on this forum before I got this phone with jelly bean. And now having used it for a couple weeks I really still don't see the big deal with it. It's nice don't get me wrong but it's not leaps and bounds better than ics like gb was to ics.
All in all I'm happy with the phone. Dual core is awesome, the gig of ram also helps allot. love the bigger screen. And with the 16g internal and the 16g sd card I had from my sgs4g I don't think I will be worrying about storage problems for awhile lol
