I followed this guide,

and for some odd reason I keep on losing clockwork(goes straight to stock android recovery.) I have root still.. any advice?
Thanks!

Oh I see. So re-naming is the best way to go i guess?
Also if i dont, I'm guessing ill have to flash clockwork everytime when I install a new rom or restore? and What if I get stuck in a bootloop or something? I'll have to reflash clockworkmod through adb?

Just rename the script. All it does is flash stock recovery at every boot.

okay. is there a nexus s4G tutorial for this?
nevermind, found it. thanks!
That script is run on every boot, replacing recovery if it is not currently stock. It does nothing else (you can open the script and read it in a text editor for proof of this).
Since you would be rooted anyway, feel free to literally just open up something like Root Explorer, ES File Manager, etc, and rename install-recovery.sh to something like install-recovery.sh.bak. It is exactly like renaming a file on your PC, and your problem will be solved after you flash CWM one more time.

Hey,
I'm new to Android, and still pretty bad with it, so when I set out to flash a custom rom last week, I never bothered to setup a backup. I didn't think it was going to be as complicated to get back to the way it was when I took it out of the box. I guess I'm still use to the iPhone. Now, I'm not completely happy with my phone and am looking to go back to stock.
I've looked in to it, and it seems easy enough, but I just have a couple of questions:
Pre-CM7 I'm pretty sure my phone was GRI54, and i9020, It's now GRI40. Does this make any difference?
And, finally, where can I download an official version of this?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

I've downloaded the i9020a one, but when I'm trying to update it it's saying "Installation aborted". I tried doing it from clockwork mod - and I don't know anything about it. Do you know where I'm going wrong here?

Sorry, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I've tried using that zip a few times (286d814dee5b.signed-sojua-GRJ22-from-GRI54.286d814d.zip 12mb) and it says install failed.
I boot into recovery, factory reset, wipe cache, install zip from sd card, pick the file, agree.
Have you checked the MD5 hash to ensure the download isn't corrupt?

yes, the default for all stock 2.3.4 roms will restore the recover back to stock on each reboots you have to rename/delete the install-recover.sh script to prevent it from happening

Sorry? I have to delete the files to keep clockwork from being removed?
All I did was flash it, restart, and clockwork was still there.
Also, my phone's internet speeds seem really slow now. Could this be from now having a different build? (GRI54 -> GRJ22)
Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge. It's quite obvious I jumped into something that's much over my head.

A stock rom has the script. So flashing it will also restore stock recovery. If the rom you installed does not restore the recovery partition, the the rom was not completely stock.

I've never used it myself.
Looking over the zip file, the script has been renamed, so it's not 100% stock.
Normally you would need to root the phone to change the file name.
Perhaps renaming the file in the zip will correct the issue?
try renaming /etc/install-recovery.sh.bak to /etc/install-recovery.sh and re-apply the zip. ( no need to wipe )
That rom was posted by dsixda, he may be able to confirm what needs to be done.
If you had root, it would be fairly easy to rename it.

This doesn't seem to work. It does gets you back to stock rom but I still have the old modem I flashed, old APN, CWM Recovery and still there and factory reset doesn't works. Just hangs with the little Android guy and an exclamation mark.
Is there something like ODIN for Nexus S to go back to stock?

This should work:
http://android.grdlock.net/index.ph... S&PHPSESSID=9dc0c107b878587d1e0b21ec1e3130ef
This should bring you to stock 2.3.3 for the i9020a
Then apply the official patch:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...5b.signed-sojua-GRJ22-from-GRI54.286d814d.zip
This will then bring everything to stock 2.3.4 with proper baseband and recovery

The kernel in Infused comes with an alternative (and standard in the third-party Android world) recovery called Clockworkmod Recovery. Deleting the "original" recovery prevents it from interfering with CWM.
Also, even if you delete Samsung's 3E recovery and CWM is hosed, the phone still has download mode (aka Odin/Heimdall mode). Odin/Heimdall can be used to recover the phone from anything except a bad bootloader flash. Our phone has a lot of protections against this, to the point where there is a grand total of 1 hardbricked Infuse, and that was a volunteer running a known dangerous experiment.
For more information on your "safety net" look at AdamOutler's Heimdall One-Click or gtg's Ultimate Unbrick. (These are basically the same thing with different user interfaces.)

First I would download a rom and put it on the sdcard (as well as gapps for cm7), then you put it in download mode, hook it up to your computer, open the mobile partition and rename the recovery something like recovery.bak, then put it CWM and make sure its named reovery make sure that it has the .img extension. After that boot into CWM volume buttons and power button and go to backup and restore and backup. Then do a wipe and flash one of the roms.

It shouldn't be a bad file... But if you are installing a custom rom then you don't even have to download and use gingerbreak, since the bootloader is unlocked and all the custom roms already have root permission.

Also when you say make sure the recovery file has the .img extension do you mean I should rename the file recovery.img or just leave it as recovery because when I go to the properties of the file it does say file type is .img Also should I unzip it? Yea you should just have to put CWM mod into the mobile partition by booting into download mode. And don't rename it if it already has the .img file extension. Yes you have to unzip it, or just take the recovery file out and put it in the mobile partition don't put the whole zip there. And questions are fine. And just rooting the triumph is as easy as downloading and installing gingerbreak and rooting it so it's easy to root, it's just installing a custom rom that gets a little more difficult, but is still failry easy. But like I said if your installing a custom rom there's no need to root it.

If you didn't make a nandroid backup... You will have to re-flash your rom over again

And definitely watch what your pushing

I'd prefer people use the heimdall oneclick (check 'Projects' out my sig).
Odin always makes things complicated, and it's closed source.
Heimdall is open source, documented, and actively maintained.
Just a suggestion
Or try using Heimdal One-Click to flash a custom kernel only. Then find a kernel you can flash in CWM that has TWRP. Then you can copy over your original framework-res.apk in the TWRP file manager and see if it will boot.
None of that will mess with your files except framework-res.

F. I'm off topic.
You're rooted on stock recovery. Install root explorer, over write the framework-res.apk, reboot.
Thank you so much guys.
I was able to flash a custom kernal with Heimdall and I pushed the right framework-res and now everythings back to normal
I'm truly grateful for all your speedy and helpful replies.
I would advise you to flash a simple zip (take any simple mod or gapps) valid for your Android version and edit its updater script to just flash the system folder. Then add the zip a system folder with framework folder and put your right framework-res.apk,
This way you just flash, fix permissions and good to go... no Heimdall, kernel or any other change, and you're back in business.
Another even simpler way is to use our device's Aroma File Manager and simply copy the right file and fix permissions...

Franco's kernel changes these system files below, so to change them back you can remove the .bak extension, or fastboot system.IMG and boot.IMG from a Google factory image which is probably easier and faster.
1 - Rename /system/lib/hw/power.msm8974.so.bak to /system/lib/hw/power.msm8974.so
2 - Rename /system/bin/thermal-engine-hh-bak to /system/bin/thermal-engine-hh

With a file explorer, directly from your phone, (Root Explorer, Es File Explorer, etc...) follow the path to the files in point 1 and 2, rename the files and save. Then reboot in recovery and flash the stock kernel if you want to flash it via recovery (equal to step 3).
