CWM touch, latest vs. proir - HTC Inspire 4G

I flashed existz ics build a few days ago, it's running great. IM not sure if my question corresponds to that change, so... I now the option to flash CWM touch from within the app... I used a touch recovery before (not long ago) but it was too new to trust.
Do you prefer the touch version or the volume button controlled version?

I flashed the touch recovery yesterday and tested a bit....It works great and found no bugs so far, I guess the touch version is more confortable than the volume rocker one. However I think 4ext is still ahead the CWM...

4ext touch recovery is perfect. I have been using and testing it since before it was beta.
I got your 10 char right here

What he said. Much more easier to use than the volume button stuff

I prefer touch, honestly. I like to save my volume rocker from excessive mashing and my thumb loves me for it too.

I haven't used either yet (don't change ROMs a lot) but with all the threads I've seen about people's volume buttons breaking, either touch recovery has to be better than the old ones.

I have been using it for a week now and works great although the 4ext touch is still ahead. Not using the volume rocker is awesome.

[Custom][Recovery] RZRecovery for your Inspire!

Hey there everyone
There's a new recovery out for the Inspire that isn't CWM and I think you might want to give it a try. If you used to be a Droid user, you might remember this:
check it out here
It's tons faster than what clockwork mod recovery is (but can still flash your cwm backups!) and you can use your capacitive buttons at the bottom of your phone to navigate!
Plus changing the colors is a snap - built in utility for it! Only thing that doesn't work consistently is touch screen scrolling.
Go ahead and give it a try (if you're brave enough, I am not, nor is RZR liable for any damages, but you all already knew that =p). Definitely worth the shot.
edit: fixed broken link
Your link's broke

Thanks, fixed in edit
Thanks, working well thus far.
Cheers.
+1 Very fast and responsive. Matches my theme perfectly!! Very cool using the capacitative buttons to navigate

If you didn't make it then you should not be posting it. Sense this is a link to another thread this is not development and ill move it to general
Not a problem, thanks mod.
Also, I can't every use anything in cwm but my volume rocker and power button. I love being able to use the capacitive ones. Much easier for me

[Q] Long pressing menu key doesn't bring out keyboard?

Hi. I recently installed an app called GameKeyboard that would replace the Android keyboard with a D-Pad and configurable buttons so I could play flash games made for PC. However, I was noticing that when I was in the game, holding down the menu key wouldn't pull it out. Then I switched back to the normal Android keyboard, and that doesn't appear when I long hold menu either.
My dad has a ZTE Blade and it pulls out the current keyboard selected when holding down menus, so is there an option somewhere that allows me to turn that functionality on or off, or is this just downright disabled in our devices?
Thanks for your time.
Depends which rom you are running I've noticed. Cm7 does it and has the option to enable/disable actions for software buttons. I can't remember about some of the stock based roms

Ah. I'm still running stock 2.2.2 that came with my phone, since I barely just got it. Thanks for the quick answer
ya it wont work on stock 2.2 maybe on 2.3.3 but thats up to you to "upgrade" it. search the threads on how to update the phone to 2.3.3.

Doesn't work on 2.3.3 or 2.3.4. Only seems to work on CM7 and MIUI builds.

What recovery do you use?

I see many other people using 4EXT recovery over anything.
I find a touch recovery somewhat gimmicky and not very advantageous over Regular clockworkmod.
I prefer the look of clockworkmod over the bronze/grey theme of 4EXT.
I see the only advantage of 4EXT is interactive install but ClockworkMod works with aroma vs. Yes/No interactivity.
I feel that 95% of Sensation users only use 4ext and I don't understand why having touch in a recovery is such a "breakthrough".
I feel this might be in the wrong section. Please move to general if needed.
mainly because you can choose which kernel to install, whether you wanna stay on stock or OC'd, that way you dont need to install it afterwards (it saves time) and also install other stuff like bravia engine or anything the developer includes..
I find using 4EXT recovery very advantageous.

Heres the thing:
You can do the same thing on clockworkmod.
The rom however, must have an AROMA installer.
InsertCoin is an example of a rom with AROMA.
I use the 4ext because of the touch screen... I don't want to use the volume button too much cause its too fragile.... I flash a lot of things and make backups, I don't want my volume button to get worn out or damage... And I'm not sure how stable CWM touchscreen is

I guess touch is more intuitive (scroll + press) rather than hitting buttons to reach the desired potion & then hitting another button to select.
Each one to his own.
I used CWM for over a year on the Desire, then switched to 4EXT there and continue to use it on Sensation. The touch input is definitely not a 'gimmick', it's just so much easier to touch your way around the menu screens than use the vol rocker. Isn't that sort of obvious?

People use touch recoveries because it makes life easier. If using the volume rocker and power button to navigate your €600 retail phone with a giant touchscreen makes you feel superior, keep on rockin.
I don't see how anybody can find using the volume rocker and power button at all comfortable with this device. It was a little more comfortable using CWM when I had the SGS4G, but 4ext is much better with the Sensation. That, along with the fact that most of us do a ton of flashing, the volume buttons are just too weak. Wo glad my brother showed me 4ext.

I told my friend to get CWM 5.8.0.9 Touch. CWM all the way

For me EXT4 Touch, find it very simple and straight forward to use
I feel like it is a very good feature. I feel like I can do what I need to do faster. Progress is always good. 4ext Touch is still growing and the custom themes are cool too. Being able to choose all those options during install is an amazing thing though. You should give it a try

[Q] Cleaning the trackpad?

My trackpad is getting less responsive to clicks. Any suggestions on cleaning it or making it more responsive? I've seen tips for the power button, but not for the trackpad.

No, I'm back to CM7. I tried out different ICS roms the past few months, but never found one that was reliable enough for me. Plus it's hard to give up the 720p video when you've got young kids.
Cm is aosp based...I had a period where mine was less responsive and sticking down, think I got some sand in it from the beach, just kept using it though...it seems to work fine now, though the button is recessed lower than my wifes...and am using a sense based rom

Aosp means pure Android, not sense or anything.
Cm7 is aosp.

oops, I read aosp as aokp, my bad.
But it seems like a physical problem more than a software one. If I press down hard it registers the click, but I'm worried I'll wear out the mechanism.

He is most likely on an ICS build which does not have that function. It opens the browser, I tried today to change the function in ICS Sense but the only change I made was to make it TAB rather than browser. But there are many threads around here to explain this, maybe one could go at it with a text editor to achieve what they want?

I second the request in this thread, only less bitterly.
I became a little hooked on that function I guess! I'd also love to turn the slide out keyboard's back key to a keypress delete or something and a long press back so I don't lose XDA posts once in a while!
