Ok so even before GB my phone would lockup and forces me to do a restart just to get it working, and now even after the update that still happens. Am I the only one who is having that problem?
Mine is doing the same things but even more than before GB. It doesn't reboot randomly but it lags (in the browser and sometimes when using the keyboard - I use SwiftKey) and freezes a lot to the point of me having to remove the battery.
I'm new to Android but I think I'm ready to get a custom rom on this. Any advice?

after the GB updates, mine is behaving not that different. It now restarts itself when i plug it in for charging and plug out from charging. Anyone having this kind of problem?
Tmobile tech team is now not doing the exchange any more, instead they are telling me to go to nearest store to investigate the problem.....looks like i'm stuck with this device......
with the GB update, the battery looks good. It does not drain out like it used to be before.
Yeah its really getting on my nerves. lastnight it locked up so much i just switched it off and went on my iphone. i might call customer care and get a replacement and see if that works better.
Any of you try and to a factory reset?
I've been running since the day of the release and the phone locked up only once while left on the dash and got extremely warm.
Every issue I've had has been fixed, the phone runs unbelievably well for me.
yea i factory reset and it still happens. only thing i cant complain on is improved battery life, but what good is that when my POS phone locks up lol.
The lockups are a hardware issue. It still exists even on different Kernels. Just request a replacement.

I've had lock ups before. Flash cwm and start trying some roms. I no longer have any problems and there are really some great roms out for this phone. Just make sure to wipe everything and backup each time to be safe. There's no reason not to try them, much of then are far better performance wise than stock.

What rom are you running? I had lockups with the cm7 nightly and eaglesblood (even more than stock).
My first issue with my G2x is that when I put my phone in my pocket somtimes and I ull it out to chck for any new text or anything. It has poweed off on its own and I have to power it back on. This usually happens like 3 or 4 times a day.
Second issue is that anytime I make or receive a phone call my phone automatically has the speakerphone on. This happen been happening since day one, rather it is rooted or not.
Third is not actually with the G2x, its more to do with Tmobile.. I have had three replacement phones since I bought my G2x and I asked Tmo CC if I could get a different phone since I have had so many problems with the G2x and have had three replacements within the last two months. And they told me the only other phone I could get was the Sidekick 4G... WTF!!!!!!!! If I wanted to downgrade I would just use my G2 or G1.
Has anyone else had either of these issues, if so how can I fix it? Cuz I refuse to get the Sidekick 4G and dont want to keep having to get relacement.
With TMO it seems like you must get a little lucky. It all depends on the representative you get. I have had better success with being nice and speaking with the next in command. TMO has far surpassed my expectations many times.
What os are you running? Stock? Is it rooted? Have you tried cm7?
I was lucky and got a phone with little to no issues. I do know some folks that had the black screen of death ran cm7 and it went away.

My current G2x is rooted running Weapons 3.0 with the ICS Theme and Droid Bionic Boot Animation. But the others were stock with the Clockmod Recovery flashed to them.
I still get the problems in stock too.I ran MIUI for a while, it didn't have those problems. I installed weapon to get wifi calling. I think CM7 based roms don't suffer from the issues.

I use to have the MyTouch 4g and I had to have it replace 3 times with in a 2 month period. T-Mobile allowed me to replace it with the G2X. So I would contact T-Mobile again and talk to a supervisor. It's better to talk with them and they can help you get a better phone. All they have to do is see how many times you replace the phone. They can look it up and then help you get a new better phone. If they don't threaten to go somewhere else, i'll bet they will help then.

For the random powering off, have you tried different roms. I'm currently using the Bionix Reloaded rom with the dragon kernel specifically for this rom. I haven't had any real issues. My phone has rebooted twice first week but it was a data issue. Mr. Apocalypse is currently working on the issue and will have a new release out soon. I haven't had any more issues after the first week. Ive had the rom for about 3 weeks.
Also, I did noticed when I used SetCpu and overclocked my phone it heated up really quickly so I had to set it back to it regular clock speeds.
Select "stay awake" in your settings/applications/development. That should help with your screen not turning on when it sleeps also know as (SOD) screen of death. Download the free app "Stay Awake" from the market and you will never have a random reboot again. Its bad on battery life but its much better then missing calls, texts,or alarm clocks.

And its not the ROM your using its the hardware LG built the phone with. I have a LG smart TV that reboots after prolonged use too. I've tried every 3rd party ROM out there and still had random reboots. The best fix I found is my prior post and I run weapon 3.0 with faux kernel.

First, sorry for the new thread & odd spot. I looked for 30 minutes to see if I was duplicating a question, but the search function on this app seems to do absolutely nothing. I also can't post in dev, yet; so I hope The Collective checks this forum.
R3velation works great, and looks even better; I'm very happy I gave it a look.
That said, I have 2 issues:
1. The battery drains FAST. Sitting idle with WiFi & Bluetooth turned off, I lose 50% of the charge in 6 hours. I'm still researching how to operate things like the voltage app that came with the ROM, but if anyone has tips I'd love to hear them.
2. The main reason for this post; sometimes when the screen is off, it just won't come back on. The only thing I can find that works is to remove the battery. Any ideas what this might be!?
Thanks to The Collective for this awesome ROM!

Question 2 is a sod which they are working figuring out what is causing it. add for battery drain there is an app on the forums called better battery stats you may have to search for it on a computer to find it because i agree the search on this xda app sucks. But that app will help find the cause of the battery drain

I'm having a major issue with R3V v2 and I need help fixing this ASAP because it is the best ROM I have flashed to date!!!! Everything works like clockwork except data. I can send text messages but any other app that requires a data connection does not work (no network connection). Does this sound like a modem flash error? X- I downloaded the ROM from your sig.
Have you tried re-flashing? I had a similar issue with a different ROM on my tablet. Re-flashing the ROM fixed it.

Yes, I had tried re-flashing the original ROM I had downloaded for Experiments signature. That file might have been faulty? idk. Last night after posting about my issue and not wanting to wait another moment to enjoy this awesome ROM I did some research on XDA and found a post where Nun had a link to download R3V v2 but the file had the letter "F" at the end so I figured it to be a different file. Long story short, a little late for that huh? IT WORKED!! Thanks to the Collective, especially Experiment for this splendid ROM.
I know, right? This ROM is the nicest I've seen for Android, yet. Run R3velation OTA, and look at some of the further mods you can get for it. Under "Themes", there's one called "Mongo Toggles (blue)" by X and Mongo41. It looks VERY sweet. The light amounts of blue mixed with the beautiful toggles for the quick panel are awesome. I need to get in touch with them and ask them to make one that has purple in place of the blue. I'd never need another theme if I had that, heh.
Glad you were able to get up and running.
Did you battery life ever smooth out? There is a typically a period of three days or so where you need to wait for a rom to, "settle" before the battery will calm down. Then it should start acting much better.
The SOD issue is one that has been driven to the point of extinction. I ran R3V for a long time, and had no issues. I am now running another rom, and I am having issues. It's all what your phone likes and doesn't like I think. Good luck figuring it out man.

Thanks for the heads up. I just put the KL2 on the phone, we'll see how that does me.
Maybe it's my imagination, but this modem seems awesome. Battery life seems to have tripled, and I'm not dropping calls at the dead spots in town. What all does the modem cover, just phone & AT&T data? It doesn't handle Bluetooth or WiFi, does it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
As far as I understand, a modem is only responsible for pulling the voice and data connections from your provider. The best explanation I've found on it is from this thread here:http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22913686&postcount=1
That's what I thought (I had originally misunderstood, and thought there was a modem for voice, for data, for WiFi, for Bluetooth...found out a couple weeks ago that was wrong).
Anyway, that KL2 modem is great. I've only lost 13% of my battery in the last 9 hours with WiFi, Data, GPS, and auto-rotation all turned on. This is as opposed to 50% in 8 hours with WiFi only turned on. (Idling both times, as I was asleep.) It also seems to not be affected by the same dead spots the other modem had, as I didn't drop calls while driving past them like I used to.
I keep getting a FC when trying to open play store help please

has anybody flashed this modem over a stock setup (rooted of course)
While there may be another issue underlying, one of the more prominant reboot causes on the phone is wifi.
I believe I may have found the cause of the problem, and with that a temporary fix.
The problem had me at a loss because some people had it and others didn't, so I concluded it to be caused by either wifi channel or security.
Doing some scanning I found my own wifi to be running on channel 3. Opening the router interface I found the channel setting, like most routers, was set to auto. I changed this setting to 6 and no more reboots.
The fix
If you are running your own wireless router, open the interface and use a standard channel (1,6,11, 6 is recommended if you use wireless N with 40mhz channel width). I will not help you set up your router as there are plenty of tutorials out there.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Unfortunately for me this is not the case. I've had my router set to channel 11 for some time. It does not change. Also, I've had the problem occur when wifi on the phone was not enabled.
After reading a thread in the Dev section on this kernel about it possibly being signal-strength related, I figured I would do some testing with different modems. I first went to the KD1 modem and it seemed fine for almost a day, then a reboot. Followed by a reboot soon thereafter. I switched to KG4 and the problem got worse. I do believe, however, that when it occurred my signal strength to T-Mobile (not via wifi) was weak/nonexistent.
I'm still on the KG4 modem despite the amount of issues I had with it last (one time it rebooted twice within the matter of a minute).
I think Bryan may be onto something provided in a log regarding the WM8994 module/code.
I'm glad you're still trying to figure out the issue as my time is limited these days. I hope we can narrow this issue down for the folks having the problem.
Thanks for your efforts and time!
Yes. As I said it appears there are 2 issues. My phone had started to reboot almost every 5 minutes when connected to wifi. There does also seem to be another issue causing reboots, but for some this may help.

I misread the first sentence. Sorry about that. Weird that wifi is causing that issue. I'm tempted to set my router to auto & see what happens. I set a channel for it long ago because I have a repeater to get the signal to the other side of the house and they would hang if both were set to auto.

I don't get great battery life as it is. I did notice yesterday or the day before, though, that when it reboots itself, the battery usage shows a sharp drop. I also noticed it's not a "full" reboot, but rather seems like a quick boot.
I agree with the half reboots and it also seems to me that they happen when the signal is low. I get a couple a day and usually while using data or wifi while indoors or while coverage is low. I don't know if these details help track it down or not but I wanted to leave my experiences.

This morning however I thought I had broken my ankle and was waiting for a call back on what to do. BAM, my blue tooth disconnected, I looked at the phone and saw the beats audio startup. Really bad timing for a reboot. Wifi wasn't on. Glad I didn't miss the call back. That would have really sucked.
Ive pretty.much given up on finding it. Im waiting for my sdcard to come in the mail to test that. If that doesnt fix it ill be redeeming my phone warranty this weekend.

I'm using my Hebrew Valhalla ROM and using Bryan's kernel I had no reboots for more than a month. It's basically Valhalla Final with Adrenaline Shot 14.1 with system mount on etc init.d scripts. You may have something there. I really don't understand how all the various work together, but seemingly there's something between the kernel and the modem. Since the reboots can be random though, it's hard for me to even guess. I flashed SCOM a little bit ago which uses the KD1 Modem with KJ6-v0.1.1-rc2. So we'll see.
Idk. It seams heat related. Also Bryan said that he either tracked it to userspace errors or he thinks its caused by userspace errors.

for those of you having the random reboot, did you do the gremlin removal steps + the factory wipe without the sd card in the phone? i would highly recommend this. after you have successfully done the gremlin remover, remove and reformat the sd card on the computer. while this is formatting, go back into cwm and wipe data/cache/dalvik without the sd card in the phone. once this is done, let the phone sit for 15 min or and and shut down. put the sd card in and reboot. if you still have random reboots, try the kh2 kernel.
I was going through the same reboot issues with kernels newer than 2D for a while. Then a few weeks ago I flashed FB's version and everthing ran great for a week. I was running VB with no additional tweaks of any kind. The week of no random reboots got me feeling good enough to start adding some of the typical changes I make to my phone... the first being changing some SD apps over to System apps ( Netflix, Skype, TB, Plume, Ninesky, ES File Ex, Camera Zoom FX & a few others)...BAM! Random reboots 4 to 5 times a day. Converted apps back after 3 days but the reboots persisted. Reflashed VB from scratch, keeping kernel that is packed in Raver's VB ROM, left apps alone and so far no reboots in 4 days. The only logs I found were similar to those posted on another thread where Bryan then said he didn't need anymore, he just needed time to de-bug.
Has anyone tried using the kj2 modem? kd1from SCOM was giving me random reboots left and right and after flashing kj2 last night my phone has been up for a little over 17 hrs without any issues. I know its not alot of time but its better than random reboots every hour or so. Signal strength also went up a bit.

I usually do the whole gremlin thing before every flash regardless. Actually formatting my sd on the puter as we speak. Then I'll do gremlin again, then reformat, etc. The things you mentioned at the end though I've never seen before, so I'll add those into the mix. With the SCOM flash this morning, the phone rebooted within 3 hours. I'm glad to see Bryan's back and that he's on top of it.
I had this problem and added the system mount on init.d scripts and the modem and don't have it. Never used the gremlin remover. So if the gremlin remover won't work for you as well, try what I say.

See if you can bring yourself back to the July baseband. You may have to go without 2.3.4, but you could get yourself a better functioning phone instead. Lol.
Once on that, maybe try a stock 2.3.3, OR a custom rom.
I'd suggest flashing cwm and trying qwes 2.3.4 .. then use titanium backup to freeze the bloat or remove it. Prolly wont help, but its worth a shot before downgrading the BB.
I had hella issues with 2.3.3 which led me to xboarders modified stock without bloat and most of my issues went away...
Then I went to cm7 and had no issues at all. (Unfortunately the new bb doesn't work with cm yet)

This phone was a **** show for T-Mobile and LG. To be honest with you, the phone functions way better with custom roms. Cm7 with faux kernel (stock voltage) and I didn't have an issue.
The quality control on these phones was prolly crap. You may have to play the mix and match game with roms and kernels.

I know you said you don't want to do custom ROMs, and I'm guessing you'd rather avoid rooting (since you said it wasn't currently rooted), but honestly...you're not going to have a good experience w/your G2X unless you do.
I bought my G2X, when they first came out, and haven't been happy with any of the Tmo/LG updates/releases. Including the 2.3.4. I have noticed better GPS lock w/the 2.3.4 release, but I'm also getting random signal drops, and having issues with wifi calling...even on kwes ROM. (I should mention that kwes 2.3.4 is far more stable than the LG release)
The best experience I had, was with WeaponG2X (2.3.3/July bb). It was stable as hell, and had lots of nice extras. I may end up going back to that. However, I have also noticed, through my years w/Tmo, that I will get signal drops off and on for awhile, then they stop. So, it could be that Tmo is messing with their towers or equipment, and it's not actually our phones. If my issues persist, I may give up the better GPS lock, and go back to Weapon & the older bb. For now, I'm going to wait it out a bit.
Good luck w/your G2X.

Well, I really don't want to flash any custom roms unless it's ICS. I have AOKP on my Hp Touchpad and I love it; however, on all ICS builds the camera isn't working (namely AOKP, which is the rom of my choice). Since the camera isn't working on CM9/ICS builds I won't flash them since I use the camera regularly.
Now about CWM, I just flashed using NVFlash the experimental touchscreen version and I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick. I'm now in the process of removing tmobile bloatware (ex. WIFI Calling, Mobile apps, etc).
Anyway, I'll report back with the results.

The only time I have had that issue was with arcee's selfkangs of ics/CM9. But once I switched to aokp, I didn't have any issues with signal dropping.

What's your battery life like on AOKP?

Don't think so.
Does this happen while on wifi?
Does it actually prevent you from using the phone.?

Yes this does happen to me on WIFI, the service drops out and I'll miss important phone calls. It does not however prevent me from using the phone
What bloatware can I uninstall without any worries, so far I've only froze them all.

I just got this phone.. I'm not made of money.
The July baseband did the samething as well. That's why I even upgraded the baseband, to see if it'll fix the issue. I'll root and remove the bloatware myself. I don't want to install a custom rom yet.. Is this an issue with all G2Xs?

Post your results. In my experience this is as clean a phone can get.

What's your battery life like on aokp

I leave for work about 130 and when I get off at 11 I would have about 60 to 65% battery left. On breaks and lunch I use the piss outta the phone.
With 2.3.3 I would get about 7 hours and it would die..
With 2.3.4 I have about 50% left at the end of work.
I can't wait till the new baseband is compadible with aokp, I've got really high expections for the battery life.
With cm9 kangs (i hate to even call aokp a kang, but it is in the name) the free app videocam illusion ( I think that's the name) allows video recording but the quality isn't best, but it works. The native camera apps will take pics, but forces closes on video.
Id run aokp see how that does. Then if its all good, try fauxs kernals. Keep in mind before flashing a kernal, backup ur rom. Just in case fauxs kernal has issue.. ( I can run faux kernals with stock voltage, when I do the undervolt, I have issues... some phones can handle it, others can't).
Hope my rambling helps.

Deleting bloatware on stock kernal didn't help, so I switched to AOKP. So now I'm testing that out to see if I still get the random signal drops. If a custom rom doesn't help I'm going to try a new SIM card, maybe the one I'm using sucks.

You convinced me, I gave in to AOKP. And it's freaking awesome, on par with my hp touchpad. I don't care about video recording, I just really wanted to keep the awesome pictures this phone takes and I did.
What's the benefit of fauxs kernal?

From my experience, faux kernals make the phone a bit quicker. Also with his kernals, when my phones asleep, (screen off) battery life is majorly improved.
