update CMW from 5.0.2.0 to 5.0.2.7 - T-Mobile LG G2x

I did this on a g2x not to far back and took and installed CMW 5.0.2.7 on a g2x from scratch as well but for some reason I can not remember how I did it. I need to figure out how to update CMW to 5.0.2.7 because I have a g2x that I have put 5.0.2.0 on but need to get it to 5.0.2.7 to use the backups from anouther g2x to restor it. I hope I'm making sence.
Thanks
Eddie

Just use nvflash as usual and use the recovery.img from fitsnugly.euroskank.com

Thanks for the reply I think I need to re install nvflash because when I click it the dos looking window comes up and go's away real quick and I don't remembering it doing that. I'll figure it out I guess later this week.
Thanks
Eddie

just a question is there really a point in updating? wat are the changes to cmw from 5.0.2.0 to 5.0.2.7?

well in my case I have my other g2x on 5.0.2.7 so all I have to do is after I put cwm on the phone and root it I put the backups I made on the phone and restore them. I think to restore the backups the ver of cwm has to be the same as when backed up for restore to work. my problem seems to be that when you double click the cmw.exe file the window comes up real fast and then go's away so you cannot paste in the code so it will upgrade. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

That's untrue. You can restore from another recovery version too. For e.g., I created a backup using 5.0.2.7. but restored using 5.0.2.0. and it was simply perfect.

Kaoscinate on mesmerize

I don't know if anyone has tried this but I've been running kasoinate on my mesmerize since his v0 release. If you want to try it make sure you were already on a voodoo kernal. Download kaos's kernal and Tom from the fascinate forum. Boot into cwm and wipe, than run the rom zip first than the kernal zip. Make sure you install gapps also. Reboot and you should be in froyo heaven.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
This works but do it at your own risk. Im working on a mesmerize build so if you can wait a few hours I may have something up for you all that is a little safer.
Sent from my USCC SCH-I500..
Awesome I can't wait to try it. Its not that dangerous if your comfortable with cwm and you can always revert back to your mesmerize voodoo kernal and nandroid backup. And of course we have Odin. But I can't wait to try your rom..keep up the great work!!

There have been issues even with people on the fascinate getting boot-loops after messing with that ROM. It's only a soft brick, but, you must remember, there are a lot of people who would piss their pants at the sight of a frozen Samsung logo.. We don't really want to encourage flashing things labeled for another device onto a different device. If the other ROM say had a Verizon radio in it.. well, it wouldn't turn out well. In this case, that is not a problem, but that's not always the case.
If Koasinate works, what about jt's stableish froyo build he released a couple of weeks ago?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Any aosp rom for the fascinate should work, they just need to be compiled using files pulled from a mesmerize.

where can i find TOM and what is it? lol
Lol I don't think you'll find Tom, he's extremely elusive!

now how do I go back lol?
I have a nandroid backup but it didn't work
Boot into CWM, wipe your device, install the vodoo kernal for your mesmerize than install your nandroid back up by goint to backup and restore and hitting restore and picking the most recent nandroid backup. In my case if I wasnt able to wipe or install I would have to do a battery pull and boot into CWM once or twice. Hope that helps.

go through the whole voodoo install process again or just go into cwm and install voodoo again?
go into cwm and install vodoo again than do a nandroid restore, if you try to stay on kasocinates kernal youll get an md5 mismatch when trying to do a nandroid restore

it just freezes at samsung now
after you do the vodoo kernal install the nandroid backup in cwm, this should go through the whole process of restoring your nandroid backup and than reboot through CWM and it should get you past the samsung screen.

also it says cant mount no such file or directory, when I try to wipe
try pulling the battery and redoing the wipe again....if this is not working for you I suggest just resetting your phone back to stock with odin, the instructions are in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881064 dont freak out too much, your phone is still recoverable. just read everything in the link and you should be back to stock in a matter of 10 minutes. hope this helps

Nandroid restore problem

RESOLVED!
I flashed cm7, but not without making a nandroid of the stock rom. I tried restoring the backup and it would not make it to the boot animation. No errors or anything, same version of clockwork as before.
The only thing I didn't try was advanced restore. Would that do anything differently?

Being that you flashed CM7, and having troubles going back to 2.2.x you must be using 3.0.0.5 as a recovery image. You need 3.0.0.6, or a 2.x recovery image.
This thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986522] will help explain the ins and outs and how to flash 3.0.0.6.
Hey! I figured it out! And this should apply to all of us with mytouch 4gs.
The issue was that i was on clockwork 3.0.0.5, which i was on even when i backed up the stock rom. 3.0.0.5 allows for gingerbread flashing, but not froyo. So if you experience an issue like this, downgrade to 2.5.1.2 in rom manager and try recovering - lucky for me, even nandroids made in 3.0.0.5 were compatible with 2.5.1.2

CWM Recovery

OK so we know the bionics bootstrap recovery doesn't work. I was messing around with Rom manager and flashed the bionics recovery and was successful. Recovery version 5.0.2.5. Then I booted into recovery from Rom manager and performed a successful backup! Gonna hold out on flashing the backup right now but I'm hoping someone that knows a lot more then me will look into this also and see what they think about it and can we possibly use everything without fearing a bricked device .
i successfully created a backup using the bionic bootstrap recovery, but im leery of trying to do a restore without having an sbf handy
Well I got brave and clicked the restore button using the bionic bootstrap recovery. I have 20+ days left to return the phone if anything went wrong. I backed up using the recovery, then clicked restore. Everything restored perfectly. I did not choose wipe data though, as I didn't think it would matter. Just thought I would add that bit of information. Hope this helps guys.

I just used CWM 5.0.2.5 to restore the system backup I made before updating, and indeed it worked fine. I'm back down to 55.11.16 android 2.3.5 (from 55.13.16 - 2.3.6) with seemingly no ill effects. IIRC, I made this system image with the bionic bootstrap recovery app.
Im still on 55.11.16 android 2.3.5 also, I know using Rom manager to make a backup took a lot longer then what I was used to on my OG. Just went through a restore with no seemingly ill effects. Has anyone tried flashing a zip yet? Just glad we seemingly have a recovery that is working.
my vivid will be here in the next day or 2. once i have that, i will risk the Atrix2 and start working on a rom.
Oh no Pirate your switching over to the HTC Vivid? I have been looking at the reviews on that device and it looks as thick as my A2 with the defender otterbox. I'm going to kick my cat if people start abandoning ship on the A2, bummer!
Awesome work on getting CWM to backup and restore. I would love to see some custom roms being dumped onto this device.
Nice! Recovery loads up smoothly on rom manager. This could get interesting...
If your bootloader is not unlocked be very careful as to what you flash!
Try a theme or something that does not affect kernals,
Just my thoughts

Thanks for the heads up!!
I'm unable to reapply the patch up to 55.13.15
Code:
contents of partition "boot" didn't match MTD:boot:8388608:9651a551679347926bb7589bb4b57d8dea357cb4:8388608:b56beaeb976b10b86cdbd38e87024ab16fe1197f
I've supposedly restored the boot partition with cwm, oh well.
This is probably to be expected. I'm guessing I can only get the stock boot partition back with a proper fxz flash to stock...
edit: I don't think cwm is even saving a boot image. I don't see one in any of my backups.
Makes me wonder what it's doing when I restore boot

No. I built several zip files to flash and cwm nor the bionic bootstrap worked.
I think we may have to wait for the official cwm release, with our device in it.

New ROM

Whenever i try to flash a new ROM it doesn't want to load. I've tried the CM7 nightlies and the pheonix ROM. This is what I do.
I root my phone via one click root.
Install clockwork recovery via app.
wipe
install ROM via recovery (install zip)
start up
Locks at LG screen. Ugh!
Any advice?

This is a must for the g2x. If you use from manager it only fake flashes clockwork mod recovery and makes you unable to flash roms.
Typical way to achieve root on the g2x is to.
1. Nvflash cwm
2. Create a nandroid backup.
3. Flash a rom that has root.
Don't bother with rom manager or super one click.

Just as a quick question. Does wiping the system, wipe ANY of my data? Like does it only wipe the existing ROM? Ive been confused of it since the first time i flashed a ROM

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and get back to you. I don't think it had to do with the wipe as I always ran a wipe script before installing. I thought it had to do with the kernel.... (don't have a clue though)
I'll flash the clockwork via nvflash, and get back to you, thanks.

you definitely want to do that. do you have a nandoid backup of your original system? if your phone breaks, that is the only way to revert it back to original for an exchange (unless ofcourse you take a hammer to it).

I think so. Catch is that I don't know if doing that will actually update anything, the whole problem is that ROM manager doesn't flash it properly/to the right place. The only thing to do is make a nandroid and try it out and if ti doesn't work, then reflash with NV flash and you're good.

I apologize for bringing up an older thread, but I figured I'd tag my problem onto an existing thread versus creating my own.
I have a sch1535, and yesterday I got it rooted again after losing root with the Jelly Bean update. I then thought that Liquidsmooth looked like a great first ROM to try out. So, I ran Titanium on all my apps and data, saved my texts, and created a nandroid with CWM. Then I flashed Liquidsmooth, looks cool and seems like a great ROM, but I found I'm one of the few who actually like the stock samsung rom (I know, I know...). So, I went back into recovery only to find that I no longer have CWM, but instead TeamWin. I have no idea when the switch occurred.
I read that I can't use TeamWin with my existing nandroid backup, so how do I switch back from Teamwin to CWM without screwing anything over?

Your easiest bet is to use the EZ Recovery app on the market. You can flash back to CWM using it and your backups will still be there. Aside from a version difference you should still see your backups in CWM.

Yeah or you could download rom manager from the play store its compatible with both twrp and cwm so if you have them both flashed then just switch back to cwm. All your backups are on your internal SD so unless you wiped your storage you're good to go.
