Dropped Xoom - Black Screen - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I dropped my xoom this morning, and the screen wont turn on. No cracks or dings in the shell. I can tell the unit is on, as the back of the unit is warm, however, when I connect it to a PC, it doesnt mount the drive nor does it display when I conenct it to an external HDMI device. When I plug it in to its charge, the charging light blinks at a steady pace. I've tried the hard rest to no avail.
Anyone have any advice on things to try?
Thanks,
jwb

I feel for you. You could try to open it and see if anything is obviously disconnected. Good luck!

Maybe try taking to too your local store that you bought it from.

Give Motorola a call...should be under warranty.

Have you tried holding the power button and the volume up button simultaneously for several seconds? Did this on my wife's Xoom the other night after our toddler dropped it and it powered up just fine.

SOLVED!!! [Q] Help! Nexus S won't turn on!!! :(

Hi everyone.
Last night I went to bed and as usual I check my Nexus S battery.
It indicated me very low battery, and turn it off.
So far, no problem, i thought, well there isn't enough battery to turn on the phone. I connected the cellphone to the wall charger and went to sleep.
Today i woke up and try it to turn it on, the screens just flashes and nothing happens.... Removed battery, try it again, the same.
Try 100 times that, and there was one time a Warning of Bootloader came up. Don't know what i did different thought, but now i can't get the same result.
Actually now the screen doesn't even flashes when i press the power button.
The battery seems to be charged, i tested with a LED. My wall charger is also working cause it's able to charge my old phone.
And now to get things even worse, as i bought it in asia, i don't have warranty, and the gran finale, Nexus S is not been sold in Brazil due to some regulatory issues, so Samsung said it they can't help me with an imported product.
The Cellphone is brand new, doesn't have not even ONE month of use.
It's not rotted, and it was in the latest android firm.
Does anyone have any idea what can i do????
The phone doesn't respond to anything .
Tnks a lot in advance.

Is it showing full bars when you connect the charger and press the volume button?
dude, i think there is something wrong with our country. take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111761
i think you tried everything possible, can't see what else you could do. Looks like a hardware issue..
if i were you, i'd claim for warranty, even if you bought in hk, it has warranty, of course you will lose shipping cost, but, it's better than lose the phone! =o]
good luck!
GchildT: Nothing happens when i connect the charger to the cellphone.
Already tried the hard reset (volumn up + power button) nothing happens
thiagodark: Tell me about it, i read this thread ealier this morning, actually i send it a private message asking him if he solve his problem... samsung is really disappoint me.
The thing i found most said is that the phone is bran new! Not a month year old.
And i didn't do anything, not even rotted, dropped, anything!
PROBLEM SOOOOOOOOOOOLVED!!!
The problem was that there was a little tiny piece of plastic dirt in the usb male plug in the phone! And that piece was able to make a faulty contact with the charger, the phone battery was dead as hell.
Can you believe that?????
I almost sent my phone across the world in order to use the warranty.
Now I'm back with my cellphone up , happy as hell!
Tnks a lot, and remenber to always clean everything before use more drastic measures.

[Q] ***HELP*** Transformer won't turn on.

My transformer will not turn on. I used it a couple days ago but don't remember if I fell asleep or powered down. I went to turn back on this morning but there is no response. If I plug in the charger I can see the light come on. Also if I hold the power button it will give a quick vibrate after about 10 seconds. Has anyone else had this problem?
Its rooted and unlocked. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.
I forgot to mention that there is nothing being displayed on the screen at anytime whatsoever...

Try cold booting it? Turn it off and then turn it on while holding the volume down button.
Try connecting it to your laptop, see if detects it???
Maybe its a software app thing?

Already tried both. Problem is, is that there is no way to see if the device is even powered on... The battery meter on the screen doesn't even show up when its plugged in/charging...
Wow....that sucks.
If your computer doesnt detect it, then idk what you could do.... cuz if it did, then you could try to use adb to try and restarting t.
It sucks that its unlocked or i would have said to just contact asus to get it replaced.
Other than that, its hard to say...sorry man.

Held down power, volume down, and volume up at the same time.
Then tried the paper clip in the reset button by the hdmi input.
Then I tried both ideas again with the charger plugged in....
Frustrating. Unless someone has anymore ideas I may just try and send it in. Hopefully they cant tell if its been unlocked or not because nothing is being displayed..

You can't send to ASUS when you use unlock tool they get your S/N and save it in case something like this happens. The only way I can see around this would be if you bought it at a Best Buy. They maintain 1 year manufacturer warranties if you bought from them so you could feasibly take to geek squad/Customer service and say it just stopped working. They wouldn't have record that you unlocked the tab. You would most likely need the receipt or some confirmation you bought it there though. Good luck.
Sorry friend, seems like you are in real trouble. I had a very similar problem, my only solution was to exchange it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203565
As you have unlocked yours, the warranty is no longer valid, and although Asus will fix it, you will have to pay to get it done. Since I'm on my second TF, and it even has had a problem that nearly bricked it, I am simply afraid to unlock it while still within the warranty period.
Might get lucky and see something with it connected to the HDMI port.

They did with my TF201 and this guys TF700 just a month ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240970
They took back my TF201 in August last year. I was told by BB it was done under the manufacturers warranty. It really does depend on who you talk to and how you approach them with the problem. Several people had to try different BB stores until they found that one person working there that either knew HOW to do it or was willing to take it back.
I had the same problem. Tried all the ideas mentioned above. I then put it on the charger for a day and afterwards it just booted like nothing had happened.
(mine is not rooted or unlocked)

TF201 is a different tab and basically BB and asus came to an agreement to take them back. The guy in your link got lucky. Probably only got a trade because of the extreme nature of the defect. Fact is you cannot just go into BB and get a new tablet under mfg warranty.

Exactly.
Now for the good news. My tablet came back to life last night after 3 weeks of trying. It was totally dead and wouldn't even vibrate anymore. plugged it in and it actually tried to boot right away but then turned off. Let it charge for a few and tried again and it booted no problem. Battery % is now showing accurately and it has now been running fine for 12 hours.
My problem is I went out and got an HP envy x2 (win8) tab on saturday. Now to decide which to keep... I love the envy but the new quad cores are coming out this fall which should really make it a versatile little laptop. Just don't know if I can live with android now that I have a taste of full win 8.

Any updates? My TF700 stopped turning on as well. Same recovery efforts, now waiting on the battery to drain. I unlocked/rooted for cleanrom (faster/better). Worked fantastic till last thursday and it refused to turn on in my college class. This could signal my exit from Android even though I have a lot of money invested in apps.

Good to hear. Aside from the snappier response of cleanrom my biggest issue with the asus firmware was the waste of screen space on the home screen. It had like a 1" border all the way around that you can't put an icon in and that annoyed me the most of all. Been waiting the battery to go completely dead before I send it in just hoping that fixes it.

N5 in bootloop - possible hardware fault related to power circuit

Hi guys
Unfortunatly my time has come to have a possible hardware issue.
Yesterday my N5 was connected via USB (like I usually leave it resting at work / charging) and out of the blue, rebooted. Google logo shows up, and reboots right away. Trying VolDown + Power shows up the menu but I hardly have any time to select bootloader or recovery, and when I do, it eventually reboots again after a couple seconds.
I'm able to turn it on and have it on if I avoid touching the power button, when I do, sometimes it works (screens just turns off), sometimes ir shuts down after a few seconds after doing so. It's not always, but happens three out of five times.
Connecting the USB cable has the same behaviour, sometimes it's alright and I'm able to copy files and so on, sometimes it shuts off and there it goes into bootloop again.
So, I got home, opened it and I looked like a donkey looking at a castle lol. I had a disconnected brown wire on the right side of the battery which I was able to fix, but that doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem.
The power button feels ok, it's not exactly rattled or anything, it has on/off feeling. if you know what I mean.
Problem is, I bought this in second hand in london about 6 months ago, would be hard to RMA and probably they would give me the finger.
Anyway, suggestions? Anyone went through anything like this? I doubt it's a software issue (rom) cause the same behaviour happens when on recovery / bootloader. Sometimes it holds on and lets me do things, sometimes it doesn't. Most often, doesn't.
Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

I can't, was bought in second hand in a shop, besides I opened it and the water sensor is pinkish (never touched water, probably humidity).
I can only do that around christmas time.
Any other tip ? Something I can do before considering something like that?

By sending in for repair or replacement, I meant to LG. Not Google for RMA.
LG will charge you for the repair or replacement.
There really isn't much you can do otherwise.

My transformer abandoned me today.

Yesterday i woke up to find my tablet unresponsive. Tried force-restarting it, but it never answered. "It's probably the battery, " I told myself, as I plugged it in to the wall and went to sleep.
This morning I tried booting it up again. It doesn't respond, doesn't beep, doesn't ilumminate and doesn't answer. It is not the battery, because I have it plugged to the original adapter, and the orange light is turned on. It is not the screen, because the tablet vibrates when booting, and not even the BIOS splash appears. At this point I came to conclusion that there is something very wrong with the hardware itself.
I don't like that it died peacefully in it sleep. The exterior is inmmaculate, I have cleaned it constantly, treated it well, and never dropped it to the ground. I cared for it beyond what it's laggy NAND deserved. For me it was like the stereotyped three-legged dog: crippled but loyal to the end.
Now I believe that cheap NAND ASUS soldered into it finally gave up. Or probably it just looked at me with envy, being constantly tempted by that Nexus 9 I see constantly on the internet, and it's weak NAND couldn't handle the betrayal.
So, is there any way to diagnose if my tablet finally wen to the big server farm in the sky? Is there any way to know what's wrong? Does anyone know what to do with the keyboard and cables other than trashing them? At the very least I want to know for certain if it is dead, so I can arrange a proper burial for it, with military honors and 21 canon shots... or more likely just dumping it into the recycling bin.
PS: If it's dead I believe I will replace it with a Nexus 9, but I am waiting for AnandTech's review. Is it the correct choice or does anyone know a better 10" tablet?
Did you try booting to the bootloader? Hold Power and Volume Down at the same time.
Try the reset pin hole (just above HDMI port) with and without Volume Down.
Good luck and do me a favor: Could you take a video of the burial and post it on YouTube? Would love to see that 21 gun salute LMAO

It didn't work. While plugged in I pressed the V- and Power buttons, and later the Reset and Power Buttons, and later all three at the same time. Neither worked. Nothing on the screen, No vibration, nothing. Yet the orange power LED shines when plugged in, don't know if it is a good or bad thing.
I guess that a few days of perspective really allowed me to sink the death of my tab.
But my snark came from the fact that I really took good care of my tablet. It is still in pristine, yet it still died. So frustrating.

[Q] LG G2 will not power on, seemingly no reason

Here is what happened exactly:
So the phone is sitting on my windowsill so i can get service and receive texts messages. i get a text so i walk over, pick up my phone, unlock it, and i pressed on the textbox to start typing my reply message. as soon as i press the text box my phone freezes, and thinking its no big deal i hold down the power button to turn off my phone (took about 10 seconds to power off). Now my G2 will not do anything at all, wont power on, wont charge, the red light doesn't even come on with the charger plugged in.
Things I've tried:
holding power/power+down/power+up for 2 minutes+
disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and trying ^ again
disconnecting every component and reconnecting then trying ^^ again.
disconnecting battery, plugging in charger
disconnecting battery, plugging in charger, then reconnecting battery with charger still attached
charging with lg charger for 12 hours
additional details that may be useful:
at&t D800
rooted
cwm recovery
optimus g3 custom ROM
literally never have had an issue with this phone before
a new battery is on its way in case that is the issue

Scratch that, i actually canceled the purchase of the new battery because i think i may need a new mobo instead. I'm not gonna buy anything until i get a second opinion at least.
sorry about the 3rd post in a row
I've ordered a new motherboard that has arrived today in the mail. after i get that in my old phone ill update the thread again.
I have to say though, i am extremely surprised and irritated by the absolute lack of support I've received from this site. i would always come here to find answers in other threads and the community seemed pretty awesome, so its pretty unfortunate that i haven't gotten even a single reply. i guess people only want to help others when they already no the answer...

Have you found a solution to this? My phone did the exact same thing yours did last Friday. I tried several button combos and the only thing that gave me some hope was resetting (power + vol. down). I was able to get the LG splash, then the ATT splash and jingle with the LED lights changing colors, but that was it, went back to dead. I'm debating ordering a battery and some tools to try and get this working again.

Yeah, so i got the mobo in my phone and it turned on and everything was working again! however the mobo i bought had a broken battery connection so i could only use it if it was on the charger so i had to send it back. but replacing my motherboard will fix my issue.
as for yours i have no idea, if it wont turn on even with the charger plugged in then replacing your mobo may be a solution.
i still think its pathetic that no one with real experience has replied to this thread, i guess you cant believe what your told about this place unless your question is easy to answer.

i got it on eBay, the original price was like $120 but i put in an offer of $75 and they took it. when you buy it make sure you compare the pictures on the posting to your actual Mobo.
All that you will need for the switch is a credit card, a knife, an extremely tiny screw driver, and some double sided tape(the tape is optional).
as you can see in my picture, the board i bought is on the right and the old one is on the left. you have to watch for stuff like that when buying a part like this.
i think I'm about to buy a D800 G2 with a busted screen for $40 in the next hour, if i get it ill let you know how it goes.
Success!!!
Alright so yesterday i did buy that busted G2 and when i met up with the kid i made sure everything worked before i bought it. i got back to work and made the switch(i was going slow and i was debating on swapping the charging component, took about 35 minutes).
I did not wanna put my Sim in the phone until after i had downloaded all my apps and configured all of my settings the way i like them, so about 6 hours later i get a chance to make the final switch over. when i did put in my SIM everything APPEARED to work fine, but when i left my home i realized that my data was not sending or receiving anything at all? i went to the grocery store and bought a glasses repair kit for the screwdriver inside and opened the phone back up, everything appeared to be connected properly.
I left and called AT&T customer support and this guy helped me fix the issue, apparently their system though i was still using the temp iPhone 4 i had. after he switched the old IMEI number to my new Mobo's IMEI, i restarted my phone and it worked perfectly! i highly recommend taking this route if you can get a new board for less than a new G2 costs.
The Mobo i got off the kid is legit too, i guess he bought it only a month or two ago because it has some features i did not have like the knock code. i also got it rooted and flashed TWRP, not sure if ill flash a G3 ROM or leave it like it is.
