Android 4.0.4 / 4.0.5 on the horizon? (maybe) - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
just read on androidnext that ICS 4.0.4 / 4.0.5 is on the horizon...
As an info leaked from SFR France, 4.0.5 should be available OTA in march...
(see attached pic)
some links:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...e-galaxy-sii-and-htc-sensation-in-march-2012/
following two are in german...

http://www.smartdroid.de/roadmap-zeigt-android-4-0-5/
What do you think? Is this info for real?
If I posted in the wrong section - I'm sorry 'bout it (it's my first thread...)
If this info has been posted somewhere else, sorry 'bout it as well - but didn't find anything here on xda for the nexus s
cheers!

Wow, update!!!

Good to hear that

Finally! Some news. Getting a little tired of GB

I would like to think this could be true, but my 9020a still has not got the first ICS OTA. Google owes us 9020a users!

Wish i had a real nexus s. My Sprint variant doesn't even have an official ota yet.

I have a hard time believing anything in that first article is true when they haven't even rolled out a single 4.0 release to i9020a. How they could schedule another release a month later than now is strange when they haven't done the first release yet.

Maybe because they had problems with 4.0.3, sounds logical to me and pretty much most other users...read threads much?

Verizon Galaxy Nexus just got an OTA to 4.0.4 so i would image the Sprint leak was a legit and possible OTA for the Nexus S.
In time source will be released since it is official for Galaxy Nexus.

Uhm, yeah, that is why they are releasing 4.0.4. However, apparently it is still in testing phase. There still hasn't been a release for i9020a or the 4g version. It will take at least a month before they finish rolling those out even if they started today. So you are telling me 4.0.5 will start rolling out the day 4.0.4 is rolled out completely? 4.0.5 suggests a bug fix release. I doubt they are doing much concurrent development on a bug fix release when they haven't even released 4.0.4 yet.

I don't even know what that means. But in general Google doesn't plan out bug fix releases schedules. I'm sure they have a time table for 4.1 however. The fact that 4.0.4 seems to be what is going to rollout to Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S users, I don't see how 4.0.5 will be released in March.

So Nexus S i9020/23 will be on 4.0.3, Nexus S 4G will be on 4.0.4 and Nexus S i9020a will be on 4.0.5?

..

I'm excited for the day when we see an official i9020a ICS release. I'm beginning to get tired of trying all these other roms and running into troubles with network connectivity. While I'm at it, I'd also love to see a new i9020a radio.

[Discussion] Estimated Official Release of JI6?

As most of you already know, thanks to our wonderful member designgears and an anonymous source we have been the first to recieve the leaked JI6 build of FROYO 2.2 for our Captivates. THANK YOU!
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
What are everyone's thoughts now that we have knowledge and proof that it really does exist; when do you think that an OFFICIAL release will be available to flash via KIES MINI or OTA?
I wet my pants! We are the first for official froyo

EDIT: I'M ON 2.2 NOW! Haha

Typically, I like to remain stock.
This appears to be stock to me, I'm quite sure we will still receive OTA updates on this ROM.
Hopefully an official release is out in the next few days; for now I'm more than pleased with the work that designgears and the rest of the community here at XDA have put together in only a few hours!
Probably in the next week fews, maybe mid-October to end of October, if we're going along how JH7 was officially released and when it was leaked.
Edit: Apparently Jh7 was leaked maybe a week before the actual OTA so maybe sooner than I thought. But the i9000 Froyo isn't supposed to be out until end of October? who knows
Maybe they can make a vanilla froyo for the Captivate now also. That would be nice to have except for the lack of a swype keyboard.

Don't forget that not all leaks become official OTA updates. We got leaked JH2, JH3, JH7, and THEN an official update to JH7. I expect there will be more leaks before the official.
The i9000 has seen numerous froyo leaks since early August and they still have yet to receive an official update, so I wouldn't get my hopes up for a 2.2 OTA update any time soon.
Still its exciting to finally get a leaked froyo build - can only mean good things are on the way.

Yeah. That's why I'm pretty sure this version will not be released as an official update as it doesn't use all the available ram.
I'm also wondering whether the tethering options that Android Central showed in the leaked build will actually be available in the stock update. I would love to see them, but somehow doubt it with AT&T.
Yeah this current release (JI6) has a lot of positive changes - but it's obvious it isn't ready for official release. It's still in the works as far as I'm concerned. I'm just glad it's stable enough for me to be comfortable with.
My thought is that this is the first go round - sort of a base build that they will build on top of. For one thing it is the One-Click Odin and not just a ROM - so someone packaged it to be a one step restore.
Then there are things like mobile AP and USB tethering that will probably get pulled. Other things like UK spelling and the missing Sync scheduling indicate that they pushed some stuff right from the EU build.
There are also some minor defects that existed in 2.1 that are still there - not being able to click on URLs, emails, phone numbers in the calendar; same GAL integration; GPS issues; etc.
Great start though, and no reason for me to go back to 2.1
Samsung has just announced[1] it has been released over OTA for the Samsung Vibrant. So, the Vibrant now has Froyo available officially.

There was a JI6 for vibrant on SamFirmwares in September - it is 2.1 - So I think this is probably the same version - with some minor changes.
I doubt it is Froyo since there is not even a leaked Froyo for Vibrant.

Ice Cream Sandwich (3.1)?

Surprised no one has a thread about this yet. Big talk about it coming out next month and I'm hopeful that all the nexus hype pays off and we get first dibs on it (aw yeaaaa!).
Anyone have news on it? Hope Andy Rubin puts out something hot.
Where did you read about it being next month?
lol number fail.
next one was gona be 2.4.
not 3.1.
and sites been saying it would come around April, guess what,we are april, and still no 2.4.
there isnt a official date thats it gone be released any time soon
if 2.4 is gonna come out, then could that herald a new nexus?
2.4 is suppose to add dual core support for phones. I don't know when it will be released, I also heard some where around April. My friend and I are currently still on 2.3.2, I'm not sure why they stopped the update. I do think that we will see Ice Cream at I/O but it won't get sent out until around December like Gingerbread.

They never officially announced that they stopped the ota. The files for 2.3.3 are still on their servers. Just manually update it. Its easy.
And new gingerbread phones are coming with 2.3.3 so there's nothing wrong.
December? Doubt it. Google releases updates whenever. Not during Q4 of each year.

I have the file for 2.3.3 already, I had forgot that Google had sent out the update honestly. Also I know how to manually install it, I've been doing it to my phones since cupcake on the G1. Now that I think about it I/O is in a few days so maybe they will send out 2.4 then, who knows.

2.4 is gingerbread. 3.1 is ice cream sandwich, hence the title of this thread. If you dont believe me, Google it. Do try to avoid assumptions, but thanks for the info on 2.4.
I'm aware that 2.4 is the next logical step however with all the moving and shaking at Google right now I wouldn't be surprised that we might get 3.1 sooner.
I'll give you credit in that 2.4 which was also called ice cream sandwich for some time was supposed to come out this month, but yea still nothing.

http://www.androidauthority.com/android-2-4-ice-cream-rumors-all-around-12376/
Is it really 2.4?
We aren’t sure yet. Google jumped directly from version 2.3 to version 3.0. We can suppose that this is because Gingerbread and Honeycomb were both meant for different platforms (Gingerbread is for cellphones while Honeycomb is for tablets). While it’s our assumption that the next version of Android would be version 2.4, nothing is sure until Google officially unveils the next version. There are also rumors that the next version would be known as ‘Ice Cream sandwich’ and not ‘Ice Cream’. Android Chief Andy Rubin also cleared the air a couple of weeks back that the next version may be called ‘Android 2.4 Ice Cream’ or something else. He also said that users eagerly waiting for the next version would probably see it during the Google I/O conference that is going to be held in just another month.

well anyway guys. all this arguing about 2.4 or 3.1 .... All i can think about is that the next major update from google will come with a new phone as well.
We all know that google is working to make dualcore support on the next version and i guess it would be kind of useless if they dont have a hardware to test it on in their headquarters.
Pls don't ask for links or ... it is only my logical opinion.

They may get around to it in a few months after every version of the SGS2 is updated...

Thanks, but Tmobile's promises are worth less than the 2 seconds it took me to scan that page. Actually, I'd like those seconds back. Learned this the hard way with the Vibrant, which would still be running Eclair if it were up to Tmobile. As it was, it took a full-on smear campaign to get Samsung to release a piss-poor update to Froyo that you had to know about to get, no OTA. So don't hold your breath on this one. I won't believe it until i see it.

i had a vibrant also so i know exactly how you feel.
but the guy said there was nothing "official" so i assumed he wanted to hear something from tmobile, so i put up the link.
not sure what else i could have done better here.
Seems Samsung has gotten better with updates since then...I'd least I would hope so. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be looking at this phone.
Trev, I wasn't ranting at you, sorry if that was the impression. I am just a little pissed that T-Mo and Samsung always seem to make update promises, but never deliver. I really like the Blaze 4g, except for all the bloat, but I won't pick one up until it receives official ICS, or is supported by AOKP. I'm tired of hacked ROMs, and now that I have AOKP ICS for my Vibrant, I can never go back to gingerbread or lower.

I'm sorry, but I am not going to buy this from an LG tech. I hope that I am wrong, but i have strong doubts that there will be official ICS for G2X, especially by the end of the month. My guess is that it will come ot hte O2x sometime in September and then we will get it through the dedicated work of people like Ricardo and the G2x devs.
Just have to wait and see. Regarding the new 2.3.4 being buggy - maybe a lot of updating issues but the ROM itself is very stable.
Is it possible to still find the Stock ROM for Gingerbread? Like not the one from t-mobile but the one from lg its self.
I just hope that Wind will give us ICS by the end of 2012. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Wind and tmo roms are same given frequency.. only diff is carrier string and apn settings.. so either release of ics will work on g2x.

When we finally get ICS for our skyrockets..

So seeing how We are still waiting on official ICS for our phones, could this be a blessing in disguise? is it possible we may get the new Touchwiz from the GSIII officially in ICS for GS2 Skyrockets?
I really like the new touchwiz and really hope we get it. i have used holo launcher and think its the best reproduction ICS themed launcher but for some reason i keep going back to touchwiz and absolutely love the new one and am hoping it comes to us officially.
While it's possible, I don't know that it's probable.
What is more probable is that AT&T will keep the new improvements for the new phone. There may be some updates, but we probably won't be getting all of the new bells and whistles.
If you want more of the newer stuff, look into one of the ROMs out there that have most of those improvements.
you guys are probably right.
I have flashed other roms like SKY ICS but that rom is way too cumbersome and has too many steps and builds. Base this, update that. wipe 3 times on everything and flash only bits from your SD card or you dont have sound etc. everything has to be done in 3 or 4 pieces. just really cumbersome just to get the new touchwiz bits. when you finally get it all updated and everything working then next day an update comes out again you flash that update which is supposed to be all good and you lose all your sounds again ugh.
tried the AOKP roms as well as the new chimara rom that has the current bug of dont let your phone die because the USB port isnt active with a dead battery so you cant charge WTF)
So now i'm back on the latest UCLE Leak build throwing on holo launcher and will just be patient for the ICS leak or another stable less cumbersome New touchwiz themed rom.
I cleaned. Will keep in General please no trolling or flaming

Dont know if that is posible since DesignGears has released information that another leak will be coming out this week !!! So I would doubt very much that our AT&T Skyrockets are receiving ICS just yet.
As for the new GSIII TouchWiz .. anything at this time is possible .. since the 3 leaks we have received so far from DesignGears .. we went from ICS 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 .. so it would be very interesting to see what changes have been made for the upcoming I727UCLF5.
