Battery life not so good - unit problem? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I have a rooted GT7+ and have terrible battery life. I tested this over the weekend, using the device (on and off) and within 9 hours after plugging the devices, I am down to 34%.
During that time, I was:
- Reading eBook (ezPDF reader with files from DropBox - 2 hours total)
- Watch short movie (1 hour total)
- YouTube (30 minutes total)
- Download apps, trying the new apps, etc. (1 hour total)
- 3 Gmail accounts in the backgrounds
I use Wifi, GPS off, and screen at less than 50%. Is this normal?
In contrast, i have similar usage with my iPad 2 and the battery would still be at least 60%.
I don't have much background apps running, and even those such as Palmary Weather is set to check every 4 hours. Only have 2 widgets on screen and have been freezing many bloatware.

I got the same problem - I'm using a rooted 6200 and when the device is in standby the standby-time is very good and lasts for some days but when I use the device the battery drain is awful! :-(
I'd like to say the battery goes down 1% every minute - even in flightmode and it doesn't matter what I do - reading a book - listen to some music or simply playing some games. No background services just LBE ...
Can someone help me fixing this? This makes the device nearly useless! :-(

similar problem when after i rooted it AND installed any kind of tweaking apps on it.. and also, the tablet runs pretty hot even with light usage.. wiping, and reflashing using odin solves the problem.. it runs cool - warm until i installed tweaking apps..

Did you have the 7 inch screen on for many hours?
This consumed your battery.
Powering a 7 inch color screen consumes a lot of power.
Almost in every forum you will see people complaining about the battery of their device. Do not wait till the battery is empty before you reload. Letting the battery go down to 0 damages the battery.

This is slightly off topic, but how did you get LBE to work on the GT7+? Market said its incompatible with my device, so is ZDBox.

As I mentioned - when the device is in "standby" it lasts for days but from the moment I turn it on it nearly uses 1% of energy every 2 minutes. It doesn't matter, if I only take a look on my gallery, play some music or simply do nothing. :-(

Sorry for my stupid question but what about this "Odin" - i don't know what this means?!
Do you have any ideas, which tweaking apps cause this problem?

Have you tried using the battery statistics built into the tablet to try and find what is causing battery Drain? If you go into settings, and then About you should be able to find the battery stats to see if a specific program might be causing problems.

I have a similar problem but it's not an app using the battery - I've been reading the following thread from the Galaxy Tab 8.9 "For tabs with battery drainage problem... " at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215182 and apparently the issue is more complex than an app using the battery but has to do with the charging circuit (I have also seen weird battery behavior on my Samsung Galaxy Player 5)
I am about to try the method suggested in the above-referenced post - will report later.

I'm running completely stock and haven't seen the battery and heat issues that are being reported. I would recommend using ODIN. ODIN is a program that you use to flash the firmware of the device. It requires you to have an unlocked bootloader, but doesn't use flashable zips like CWM. Odin will take you back to stock, unrooted. Try running that under the same conditions that caused your battery drain and heat issues before. If you experience the same thing, you will probably want to contact Samsung for a warranty repair/replacement. Good Luck!

Odin is the official Samsung Service software for Samsung Smartphones.
ODIN does NOT require root.
It is used to transfer stuff from a PC directly on a Samsung Smartphone.
Primary function:
Install a samsung firmware to a phone.
Particularly useful when a phone is BRICKED/dead.
With a USB-JIG you can put a Samsung BRICKED phone into Odin mode and transfer a new firmware onto the dead phone.
Secondary function:
It can install CWM on your phone.
It can install a custom kernel on your phone.
What do people at Samsung Service do when you give them a phone?
They put the latest firmware on your phone with Odin.

P.S. To those unfamiliar with the process of using ODIN, don't confuse not requiring root for not requiring an unlocked bootloader. Even if your device is bone stock, you must unlock the bootloader in order to get into download mode which is required for ODIN to be able to flash your firmware. Good Luck!

Uh oh, seems to be affecting many Samsung devices: tablets and media player.

hope someone can build the mod rom soon. the battery life is a serious problem with tab plus user.

I did a test for my Galaxy Tab 7+ as follow:
1). Charge overnight to 100%
2). Use an app called "Battery Stats" to monitor usage
3). On the next day, unplug at approx. 7:30 AM. Turn the following on:
- Wifi
- GPS
4). From 7:30 AM to around 8:00 PM, the tab is NOT used, it is on standby
As you can see from the image below (generated by Battery Stats app), the battery drain is VERY small. By 8:00 PM, it's at 89%. You'll also see in the image that screen was OFF from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, even though the device was "awake" almost constantly (but screen is off) for email checking etc, the battery drain is still small.
The problem comes when I started using the device, as follow:
- Watch movie for 1 hour
- Browse the web
- Check email
- Read eBook
Keep in mind that, beside the movie watching, the rest of activities are occasional (i.e. browse web for 15 minutes, turn it off, do something else, turn on the device again for reading eBook, etc.).
From 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with the above usage, the battery was drained from 89% to 15%. That's a drain of 74% in 4 hours!
I did similar test to my iPad 2 and by 12:00 AM, I still have 60% left in my iPad.
This is definitely a problem with the tab circuit/charging/whatever component and not app related.

I suggest all of you using BetterBatteryStats http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 and CPUspy
Using BetterBatteryStats you can pin point what application or service that is draining your battery.
Before, the battery life of my tab was very inconsistent. there are times standby times were very good
And there were times that it sucks the battery almost 10 to 20% drain an hour even on standby.
using BetterBatteryStats and checking partial wakelocks I found out that mediascanner services was always running.
running CPU spy you can figure out how long it was on sleep mode or how long was the cpu processing even on standby.
my kinda permanent fix was to install an app to automate the .nomedia in majority of the folders and just left my video, music and image folders to be scanned. so far getting very good and consistent battery life with my tab.

Ah yes, I was using BetterBatteryStats above.
What's interesting, though, is that I have good standby times but the moment I use the Tab... Booomm... battery usage goes down the drain.

**HOW TO MAKE YOUR BATTERY LIFE LAST** Members Tips & Tricks

I just wanted to start a thread where all members can give tips and tricks on how to make our battery last longer. I know there is a “How long does your battery last” thread but we can just post here to help all members alike. Please post if you are permarooted, type of ROM, type of Kernal you are running. Please post the apps and setups you are also running to achieve this type of battery life.
Here’s my setup
S=off (permarooted)
Iced Glacier v1.11
Gorilla v.05 kernal
Oc’ed @1.4ghz
Screen Brightness set to 40%
Data sync every 1 hour
WiFi on, GPS off
The ROM I am on came with all the bloatware erased, so it was perfect. If you are running a stock ROM, first thing you should do is remove them. I then installed a app called SuperPower (dev. By a XDA member) which really helped a lot. You can setup times where you can have data on, wifi on, sync, screen brightness. Next install setcpu, this will help you overclock your cpu but more importantly, underclock your cpu. Heres my cpu settings.
Running: 1401/368
Screen off: 368/368
Battery under 50% 768/368
I also stopped using Advanced Task killer as I read it does more harm then good. Hopefully this thread will help out all members with their battery life!
Some screen shots I took. It shows what speed I'm running and it also shows that I have been off the charger for 15 hours and still have 45% left.
how do you set up data to sync every hour? and what theme is that?
That's one of the features of SuperPower. It's a great app, even if you're not rooted.
Personally, I'm rooted but haven't installed any custom ROM or kernel; still, just having SetCPU underclock the phone when the screen's off is a huge savings, as well as SuperPower's ability to turn off wifi when it's not in use.

I set it up in SuperPower. I'm using the Ice Glacier Rom with Launcher Pro Custom Docks
Great thread ! I like the idea of under clocking with screen off. But doesn't your display account for the vast majority of your battery usage? It seems like lowering the brightness would be the absolute best bang for your buck. Further, until the other items become a significant percent of your battery usage, you might be splitting hairs. Anyway thanks for the info, ill be downloading that app
I'm running iced glacier. Rooted with gorillas v.05 kernel. My battery last about 8 to 10 hours with heavy use. 5 hours of continuous use. 12 plus light use.
Setcpu:
Performance governor
1.7max 245min
Temp over 104° F
806max 245min
Screen off
368max 245min
Autokiller
Ultimate preset
Screen
Brightness/Auto
Timeout/15seconds
No animations
No rotation
Sync/setup to my liking, no baterry savings here
6ps, wifi, bluetooth, location
All of unless needed
I charge my phone for 7 plus hours everyday. Since I can't shut it off without booting into recovery, I can't really charge it off, which is how most tutorials recommend you calibrate your battery.
I've noticed that wiping battery stats in clockworkmod recovery actually decreases battery life. I recommend simply charging the hell out of your phone when you can. I know I know its bad for the environment... SO IS PLASTIC! Lol

When I first flashed clockwork everytime I rebooted while the phone was plugged in it booted into recovery, but not when it was unplugged.
I read somewhere that reflashing clockwork helped fixed this so I reflashed it in rom manager once with no result, reflashing it a second time fixed the issue and my phone hasn't rebooted into recovery since.
and does turning on the usb debugging also help, for real for real?
De-Sensed Iced Glacier 1.2
Gr8Gorilla OC/UV Kernel 1.02: 806/245 On Demand Scaling (Only turn it up to game/bench/show off )
LauncherPro Plus: 7 Screens, 10 Widgets (4 are full screen, 4 of them update every hour)
All apps and games (including the big ones like Angry Birds, Pocket Legends, etc) are moved onto the phone, instead of sd
No Live Wallpaper
Brightness at 30%
Auto-Sync every hour with Facebook, Twitter, Google
Wi-Fi Calling (If you don't use this, you should! A constant connection with a wi-fi network is better than constantly searching for signal with the radio. Great battery saver for home/school/work.)
With this setup I haven't had to put my phone on a charger until the end of the day. Ever. I use my phone for a music player when I deliver pizzas and when I get home I have at least 60%. That is with the music, phone, and gaming during down-time (if I'm lucky ). Then I can play away when I'm home with no worry of plugging it in until I go to bed.
^^ great tip IRIS! I'm gonna start using the wifi calling when I'm at home. I live in the crappy area where it's constantly switching from edge and 3g. I started using the phone with heavy usage and I'm getting around 15 hours. I have the settings, updates, sync to my liking. I'm with crx on this one, use the phone!! Just charge the help out of it when you can

All other updates are manual...
I get 30-36 hours on a full charge...
Not sure if anyone looks at this form anymore, but i'm running CM7 nightly build 23, i did a full charge and a battery wipe to see how long my battery lasts. I hammered it for a good 10 hours with OC with screen on (underclocked screen off) i played games, watched youtube videos and just about everything else and i was still at 20%
I once ran for 1 day and 9 hours with 45% left, and it was moderate use.. I was on nightly #19 for CM7.. it's not ever happening again for some reason.
heres mine from switching glacier to miui.

My battery drained to 20% in like 5-6 hours while on glacier even while doing nothing
I found a link early on in my battery problem days.... And I think that this actually does help a lot when it comes to getting a battery that lasts longer. Given its hard to replicate the procedure, because of the CW bug that boots the phone into recovery..but I just charged it while it was in recovery(or I think if you turn fastboot on and charge it while its off, it doesn't boot into recovery.) and my battery life really has seen dramatic increase.... anyways here is the link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990&highlight=battery
Note: I do realize that its in the EVO 4G forum, etc...but the letter is from HTC, concerning HTC batteries...So I tried it anyways, and I can't say I haven't seen the effects.
Ill just be blunt...
Dumfuqs smartass kernal
Auto sync off
Background data off
Screen low
Market > my apps > menu > notifications > OFF
Either 4g only or 2g only
Only use 3 of the 5 screens
Minimal Widgets
Pick and choose which you like and/or want to utilize.
I usually leave background data on now so I can have cool green icons

Yeah I switched to CM7 from IG 1.1.6 and noticed a drastic change in battery life using the same settings on both ROMs. IG display killed my battery(usually around 80%) while the display usage on CM7 is only around 8-10%

Verizon SGS3 battery life?

Does the Verizon version of the Galaxy S III have worse battery life than the other carriers' versions. So far I have had pretty poor battery life with my phone. I have had it since Friday the 6th. Since then I have gone through multiple charge and discharge cycles. I've been averaging about 8 - 10 hours of life, with about 2 to 2.5 hours of screen time. I use the phone for about an hour of browsing the web in the morning, on the train to work, then another hour on the way back. While I am at work I turn off the mobile data and WiFi. I basically only use it to check text messages. In that time It'll still drain about 5 to 10 percent per hour. I have already reset my phone to factory settings. It also seems to act normally up till about 70 percent, then it starts to drop really fast. I want to maybe get another battery from the store, but as the phone hasn't even been released yet I'm not sure what my luck would be. Has anyone else been having better results if not similar problems? Does this seem like an issue that could be solved by replacing the batter, or would a replacement new phone be needed to fix this?
Replacement battery
It seems that Verizon cannot give out any replacements until the in store launch on Thursday at the earliest.
AT&T seems to be pretty horrible. Have you tried CPU Sleeper by eugene373?

I have not tried that, but I have tired standard things such as Juice Defender Ultimate and what not. The biggest thing to me is that even when I turn off mobile data and wifi, it still starts to drain rapidly after about 70 percent. I will be at about 70 percent at 4:00 pm and by 7:00 i'll be at 10 percent with 30 min usage during that time frame, with only on LTE during that 30 minutes.
I have had 4G on all the time, and unplug it at 6am and it has lasted me quite easily until 10-11pm (down to about 10%). I have all data sync on, send approx 100 text a day, play a few games daily, read forums, Google reader, stream music and tethering as well.
I would contact Verizon support. It may be just as simple as a new battery. As of right now I still have 41% left and that will last me the night.
edit: I am also not using any battery saving apps like juice defender or turn off mobile networks either.

Ya, I did and they said I could come in and get a new battery tomorrow, so we will see how much that helps. I just hope I don't have to get a replacement phone because more or less likely the new one will be refurbished. Plus I hate wasting screen covers.
If it is under 30 days they will usually replace with a new phone. That has been in my experience. this happened with my Fascinate when I first got it.

Coming from the rezound, 2-2.5 hours is amazing battery life!
Honestly, it may just be the battery. Try that first, and if it still fails, then return the device. Just remember that Verizon only does 1 free battery during the warranty period.
you guys need to debloat...the problem is the 100 apps that verizon preinstalled has many backgorund services running.
After debloating I went 27hrs w/ 3hrs screen on, 2hrs talk time, and still had 17% percent battery left...like a BOSS!!!
i'm amazed at verizon's battery life. i have an AT&T one and after 6 hours of use and 2 hrs screen time, mine was at 53%. my girlfriends was at 53% with 13 hours of use and 1 hrs 14 min screen time. i cant figure out why.
My room mate has one from AT&T and he can get about 20 hours till 20 percent, with 4 hours of screen time. Not to mention making phone calls and what ever else he does on it during the day. My battery life seems normal in the morning. The only reason I want to get it replaced is that at about 70 percent it'll start dropping rapidly even if I don't touch it during that time.
take a min and go through all the settings in the phone that you think might effect battery life and if you don't use it that often, shut it off. also, disable the apps you don't want/use in application manager. i have about 24 apps frozen, smart stay off, motion off, brightness at 1/3, email sync set to manual, location services off, facebook sync and notifications off, bluetooth off, wifi off, menu/back lights off, heptic feedback off. i can't remember what else but yesterday i unplugged it at 430am with normal use throughout the day (numerous email, facebook, play store use, texting, hr worth of phone call) and this morning at 6am i was at 9% battery left (this was in 4G). Id say that is pretty good! i am very pleased with the battery life with this phone! everyones battery life is going to be different with all the combinations of settings that can be different.

Which apps, did you freeze? Also I just got the new battery so I'll give it a day or so and see what happens.
Is this normal? My screen on time is about 1 hr and 20 min... Not sure if this is good or bad. Yesterday I only got about 6 hrs with around 2 hrs of screen on time.

I am not rooted either as of now, I am kind of waiting to see if they find a bootloader work around. I disabled most of those apps, plus I picked up a new battery around mid day. The only other thing I have noticed is that the phone oddly seems to charge better while on then off, where as my DINC was the complete opposite.

MAXIMIZE the Battery Life of your Note 3 (Fix to Battery Drain issue)

Firstly, I want to say that this thread is based on the Exynos Note 3, not because it will work only for that device, but because it is the device I own at the time of this OP. HOWEVER, I can assure you that the tips in the second part of this guide, tagged 'IMPORTANT TIPS', would go for just about ANY device running android as the effects are similar. Now... Read On!
Since the MJ7 update was released, some Note 3 users have been experiencing weird battery drain issues, the MK2 update was also released and it didn't seem to fix it either.
While some users say a factory reset did fix their battery drain issues, many still have it after doing the factory reset, Me being an example.
I think the main problem is that the phone doesn't go into deep sleep.
So, I took sometime to research a fix and couldn't find a really solid fix, so I decided to go for the Next Best Thing, tweaks/settings.
Tweaking the phone in such a way that you maximize your battery use is what I will write about in this thread.
After tweaking my phone, I was able to hit 9hrs 30mins screen time with a total time of just over 1 day (24hrs), WiFi on ALL through. Not much Voice call time however.
On Mobile data, the tweaks won't give you this much time but still expect about 5 to hrs screen time.
How did I achieve this? That's what I will share below. But before I do, I will like to say that I have the Exynos Note 3 and this might be somehow targetted to that device (mentioned this earlier). However, if you have a Snapdragon Note 3 or any other Android device for that matter, I'm sure one or two things from this post will be helpful to you.
I will also say that 'Root' is quite important for some of the tips. If you are not rooted, you can just apply the ones that don't need root.
And For Non-Root users, Freezing App in TB can also be done manually to some apps by going into Settings > General > Application manager > All. Then scroll to the app you want to disable say Maps which is a HUGE battery drainer as i will mention below, select it then click the button at the left top which says 'Disable', I think it says 'Turn Off' in KitKat.
1. Factory Reset: I think the first thing to do first is Factory reset your phone, just maybe! That might work for you. You can also skip this step as factory reset is alot of work and might not be worth the stress in the end. But, I think a fresh start is always good once in a while NOTE: Backup your Internal SD to your PC or another flash media device FIRST if you decide to factory reset!
THE MAIN PART
=======================================================================================================
2. Kernel: Download a good Custom Kernel that also has the 'ondemand' governor. For Exynos Users, I recommend goodHanrry-kernel v2.0A (Used in first test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569056
NOTE that this is still a JellyBean 4.3 ONLY kernel till date
OR
halaszk-UNIVERSAL5420 v0.6A (used in Second Test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590320
I recommend v0.6A for Jelly Bean and v0.14B for KitKat or the latest Test for urself
Snapdragon users should try the ones they have too.. I'm sure they have some good kernels, like Perseus kernel but again i have Exynos Note 3 so try it for yourself.
3. Kernel Governor: Download SetCPU (paid) from here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking
Go into SetCPU and change the Governor at the bottom left of the page there to 'on demand', then tick the 'set on boot' option in the middle so it will be applied after everyboot.
What the Governor 'ondemand' does is the CPU ramps up only when you actually need it. Hence the name Which also means that 'even if' you don't get good deep sleep, your CPU will stay at the lowest frequency, Saving you battery!
============================================================================================================
IMPORTANT TIPS
============================================================================================================
4. Greenify: EVERY rooted user must have Greenify! It's a fantastic app! It hibernates apps that you are not using so they never get to use your battery, yet the apps are available whenever you need them. No stress!
Download Greenify here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify (I bought the paid version as it has more fuctions)
For those who don't know greenify or how to use it, it's simple! Only Greenify those apps you don't rely on for Push Notifications.
For example, don't greenify apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Twitter, BBM if you expect to get notifications from them in the background.
Feel free to Greenify other apps like your games, adobe reader, dictionary, and the rest of them as you don't receive notifications from.
Starting from Greenify v2.0, even None Rooted users will be able to use Greenify Just without the option of Automatic hibernate, however.. It's still Great!
TIP: If you are a Non-Root Greenify user, I will highly recommend that you put the 'Hibernate Now' widget on ur homescreen so that you have one-touch hibernation. Just tap it before you lock ur screen or at anytime really. I'm a Rooted user and I made it a habit already! Tap then lock screen
Greenify is a FANTASTIC app!
5. Power Saving Mode: Use the Power Saving mode for as long as you can, I use Power Saving all the time. What this does is throttle ur CPU down to 1.4GHz (Exynos Note 3),
lower frequency naturally means more battery. The Note 3 is a pretty powerful device, so I even play games on Power Saving mode without issues. But if you feel you need that extra oomph!, then you can put it off before you play your games and turn back on later. For the more advanced users, you can make these more dynamic changes with apps like SetCPU or CPU Tuner.
6. Screen/Brightness: As we all know, normally the screen consumes the most power so if you can manage ur screen properly, u can get some extra juice. My advice on brightness is set to 'Auto -5'. However it is fine to use any other Value from -5 to 5 as you like it. Then you can set to a timeout range of 30s. Try to avoid using live wallpapers as it uses the GPU for the animations also AMOLED screens save more battery when you use dark wallpapers. Do that if you love dark wallpapers
7. GPS/Maps: Now, GPS is like the Number One drainer of battery and many many people don't know this. Here is what you do, pull down your notification bar, long press GPS there then make sure everything under GPS is turned off always! Leave turned off unless you need to use GPS.
Maps is also another app that drains battery in the background, I don't use maps at all, so I keep it frozen all the time using Titanium Backup.
But if you use maps, my advice is that you open up TitaniumBackup, look for maps on the list of apps, long press it and then convert to User app. Now u can Greenify it and it will still be available whenever you need it.
8. Google Now / Google+: Google now does drain battery, if you don't use Google Now, turn it off. Go into Google now, enter settings and turn off. I keep my Google now frozen as I never use it anyways. If I ever need to, I will unfreeze it. If you successfully handle numbers 7 and 8, you will not have issues with Google Services drain anymore! Unless you go traveling alot
Google+ is one app that drains alot of battery, if you do not use it much or don't need it at all, my advice is that you handle it. Greenify it or better still, Get rid of it.
9. Sounds/Vibration: Maybe not really a big deal, but those keypad/touch sounds do drain battery. It's fine to leave them on if you like em, but if you can do without, then do! Especially Haptic Feedback! Settings > Device > Sound. You will get the option there to turn them off. Including keyboard sounds and vibration
10. De-bloat: Samsung always loads alot of bloatware on their phones, the more the bloat, the more the apps running in the backgroud, the more the RAM consumed and in turn, the more the battery used! If you can, go into Titanium Backup and freeze as many bloatware as you are familiar with, don't touch anything you don't know. Lol. I always debloat any ROM I flash, so i'm quite familiar with the process. Anyways, just a heads up! If you freeze 'Magazines' for some reason your Stock Email app will crash whenever you try to open a new email or clear emails from the notification bar. Gmail app will work good, i decided to mention as my main email address is Yahoomail.
11. Reception: Believe it or not, reception is VERY IMPORTANT when it comes to battery life saving. If you have good reception, then it's smooth sailing and good battery, but if your reception isn't good then your phone is always always trying to reconnect your apps and services to the internet, over and over and over again! Trust me, this can take a serious Toll on your battery. If you notice my screenshots below, I have near 'PERFECT' reception. Notice the green Network mobile signal area in Graph. No blemish!
Here is how: Well, since i'm always on WiFi (have a pocket router).. I never need the '3G/HSPA' reception, so I set my phone to GSM/2G Only (Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks then change Network mode to GSM Only). I'm using Exynos Note 3, so I don't have LTE, but if you are Snapdragon user with LTE, You can set to either just 3G Only as that should still be more stable than 4G/LTE, you can still set as above too, afterall you won't be needing the LTE connection when on WiFi.
All I said right now about Reception was complicated yes?
This App makes it simple - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-intelli3g-2g-3g-4g-toggle-battery-t2580234
Haha!
Finally, I use Nova launcher now as I have frozen Touchwiz launcher. Nova launcher is fast, plus i LOVE me them Stock KitKat icons And I feel Touchwiz Launcher on MJ7 and MK2 does drain battery much.
(DO NOT FREEZE TOUCHWIZ LAUNCHER IF YOU DON'T HAVE A 3RD PARTY LAUNCHER INSTALLED! YOU WERE WARNED!) You will get Force Close unending
Having written all these, I know some of you will want to come on here and crucify me, because you disagree with one thing or another. But the thing is... I'm only trying to help, and this works for me! I only 'HOPE' it will help as many people as possible enjoy their phone even more
Here are screenshots of my Battery Stats, maybe they will convince you to try one or two things out You will notice that BBM still drains a chunk of my battery, but I can't do without BBM And Nova drains less than TW was.
CHEERS GUYS!

Pretty good post OP. I have already given some of these a shot. I'm unrooted. Rooted my note 2. Still unsure about the 3 as there isn't as much information on it.

I also think having perfect signal the entire time plays a large effect as well.

Yes! Bad signal can actually drain more battery. As applications dat need internet keep trying to reconnect.
I averaged 9hrs 32mins screentime with stock phone Not rooted and no special apps. Wifi the entire time with a Sprint note 3. Its all about your signal. The better quality signal the better battery life you will get. You can flash the latest and greatest roms and kernels but if you have a poor signal you will have poor battery life.

Actually, battery life depends on sooooo many things, signal, ROM, kernel (in some cases), apps installed, apps running in background, GPS use, screen settings, even down to little details like wallpaper funny enough lol. I believe I can think of a lot of stuff, however! Very true! Poor signal will also drain battery, out of experience I speak.
Afterall, My battery has sat at 100% for 9 whole hours on Airplane mode!
Yes you are right Google now drains a lot..!! I thought it was only me he he.. Even in airplane mode it drains .. Unbelievable.. Last night I just put it on vibrate and it didn't drain anything... last three days it drained 3% in 5 hrs in airplane.

Battery is not bad, ROM bases are not too good. Mobile data drains A WHOLE lot than WiFi.
Snapdragon
Root
no tweaks / no kernel change
But only 3 hours screen on time
you can also buy yourself a Samsung Note 3 extra battery kit
you can charge that battery in the kit itself.. you'll have 2 batteries with 100%
it only costs 30euro / 41 dollar
Nice little post there!
Some obvious, but some pretty good tips. :good:

@stanley08 , I never did a factory reset on a droid b4, so how do I do it, what will I lose & how do I backup, though my concern with backup is I might reload some battery hogging data or settings which would result in waste of time & screwing around with a already set up phone.

This is the Wise thing to do. Do whatever backup you want to do, Titanium Backup, SMS backup, Call logs backup, Nandroid Backup, and any other backup you want to do. Then Create 2 folders on your PC. Name the first one Internal Sd and the Second one External SD.
Then connect phone to pc and open up ur internal sd, highlight all and copy to the folder on ur pc names Internal. Do the same for external sd, but this time... Copy your external sd contents to the other folder you named external sd. That is IF you have/use an external sd. For me, it is pretty convenient to backup my external sd as it is a 16GB one and only about half full at all times.
NOTE: Wipe data/Factory reset in Custom Recovery like CWM will NOT delete your files on the internal sd of your phone. It will only remove your installed apps and reset ur settings...
But wiping from STOCK SAMSUNG recovery will do the above and ALSO wipe your internal sd clean. And that is what is called hard format. Or hard reset or factory reset.
I advice that copying data to your pc should be the LAST thing you do before wiping anything. This way, you will be certain that everything you backed up is safe as they are either on ur Internal sd or external sd. CHEERS!
After reading all battery issues I have refrained from updating my phone. I am still on M900XXUBMI5 should I not update if the update has so much issues?

Battery Drain during idle time

This problem only appeared for me when I upgraded to 4.4.3. 4.4.4 didn;t solve it too. I'm on stock ROM, rooted.
Basically instead of draining 2-3% over 8 hours of sleep time at overnight, it would drain about 16%. There are no wakelocks, and the battery monitor on Android doesn't reveal much... maybe Android System is draining more than usual but I can't be sure, and everything else looks normal. I really can't pinpoint the root of this.
What I do know is this - if I reboot the phone the problems goes away, for one or two days. And then for no apparent reason the phantom drain comes back. Only solution to it is to reboot every now and then. Very annoying. Anyone else has encountered this?
you gave us no screenshots, logs or anything.
how can we help you determine the issue if you give us nothing?

Sorry about that. I'm attaching a few screenshots that hopefully give you a better idea of what's happening. Ignore the media player drain as that's just my Poweramp. As you can see it seems like all the Android processes (idle time, Android System, Mobile Standby) are just a bit higher for the high drain screenshot. They probably add up and result in a much higher overall drain.
Once I restart the phone the drain becomes normal again, but after one or two days the problem just inexplicably comes back.

I am having the same issue periodically. And the ONLY solution to fix it (temporary) is to reboot. As far as I remember it was happened to me on 4.4.2, 4.4.3 and now on 4.4.4.
BBS shows nothing major. There are no rouge processes in memory (checked in terminal), CPU deep sleep is fine (another fact saying that this cannot be a wake-lock). LTE/GSM signal is good and consistent (same place all the time). I have tried an airplane mode when drain has started but it does not matter.
If drain has started - phone would loose about 20% overnight (8-9 hours) when completely idle. Normally it should be 2-3%.
So, the source of such high drain is more likely somewhere in hardware/drivers etc.
I cannot determine which part of the hardware is draining current - baseband processor, digitizer, busmux, DAC or else...
PS: so much for all that google gimmicks about battery life improvement in every new Android OS.
Speaking of which I find out that Google Services in 4.4.4 are always trying to connect to "mother ship" even if Data Connection is turned down.
Some google developer explained algorithm they use for framework communications like this: if connection is failed then double wait time and repeat until it reached max wait time around 30min.
Well, last night (7 hours), with data connection explicitly turned off through Android Settings UI, Google Framework attempted to report to "central office" 246 times! - max wait time was about 1 minute and half.
Clearly, developers of framework know nothing about Android Settings API and continue "pinging" - well, but this is another problem.
100 cookies says its simply your poor signal.
Turn data off, not airplane mode, just data for awhile and i bet your drain is half what it is now.
Or get on WiFi.
You'll still get calls and texts with data off. During this test, toggle data on only when needed then off again.
See how that works.

Nope. No Xposed (Xposed won't run under ART anyhow). Funnily I had Xposed when I was on 4.4.2 and I didn't have this problem.

Any news on this ?
Having the same annoying problem as well, normally it does not even drain 1% an hour while idle'ing and indeed sometimes (not always) a reboot does fix the problem.
Nothing to see with BBS or Wakelock detector
I am also getting this at the moment - I only noticed it since the 4.4.4 update. Overnight drainage is now in the region of 15% where it used to be around 5%.
I guess that isn't terrible but the idle time I got on this phone for the first few months was one of the great things. Hopefully a future update resolves it.
99.9 percent chance its location services. It seems to get worse every update. Try a night with it off.
If its already off. Try turning Google now, sync and put it in airplane mode.
If it is good....its one of the above. If its still bad.... Its a rogue app. A bit harder to track down.

I'm on 4.4.4 with all that off, and my drain is about 0.5 percent per hour....not in airplane mode.

Actually... I do have sync on for gmail, contacts and calendar.
We already tried all standard suggestions like the ones you're telling us again, the problem is there's a drain somewhere we cannot find.
4.4.3 had probs as well, in the beginning with 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 (don't know exactly) it was draining only <1%/hour (even with a lot of apps installed, I've greenified them)

Then its app related, or possibly carrier. Or I suppose the old "not all devices are equal.". And my reason for saying this is that many, many people still have perfectly good battery life and standby drain.
All those with the issue could have the same app or apps.
Whenever a battery issue seems unfixable....my advice is always do a complete wipe (except internal SD) and reflash firmware. Then go a day, or two and see how it is. If it seems OK....then start installing your apps...but only like 5 a day. So if your battery suddenly isn't good again, you know its one of the last group of apps you installed.
I'm sorry, but I just can't possibly imagine its just Android draining the phone. If it were like that, reports would be pouring in about this. And they aren't.
Yes, it can be work to track down a tough battery issue. But its do that work and practice patience.... Or go back to the last Nandroid version that was OK.... And stay on it. Or live with the drain. For me the first option seems most logical. Spend the effort and track down the issue until its solved.
But, to each their own. No one can force anyone to do anything.
Good luck!!! ?

Oh....and after flashing firmware...turn off every feature. Go one day like that and no apps installed. Day 2....try services you like on. Day 3....start installing apps a few at a time each day.
Just wanted to be clear. When/if battery goes bad....you know its whatever you just did.

[Q] Moto G idle battery drain

Hi,
I have searched the forum for this and even though there are a number of cases they all seem different from this one. Instead of confusing matters more I decided to open a separate thread.
My Moto G (European version, en. DE, Android 4.4.2) so far had always been running for 7-10 days on a charge. Mobile data is off, GPS is off, data is off, WiFi is on only occasionally, no calls at all.
This has changed. My use is the same but the battery now drains at around 1.5-2% per hour, effectively cutting running time in half.
The only thing I (consciously) changed was to install SwiftKey. I have read that there have been issued like this with a previous version of it but that seems to have been fixed since 4.4 or so. Either way my other android device handles SwiftKey well so I am really not sure what might be causing this.
Of course I removed SwiftKey but that did not fix the problem.
The OS reports this battery usage: idle 35%, display 27%, cell standby 23%, Android system 5%, Android OS 3%.
Also I have no idea what kind of background update might have been made without me knowing it.
Do you have any idea what might be causing this? Is anyone of you experiencing the same issue?
What kind of battery do you have?

Just curious to find out what kind of battery do you have and where did you purchase it? It may be the new installation but hard to tell.

What kind of battery I do not know - I did not change anything on this phone and as far as I know the battery can not be removed. I bought the phone in early January 2014, it was one of the cost to be delivered and still had the previous android version (4.3?) back then.

Go to developer Options in settings and if you do not have this option then go to About Phone and tap 5 times on Build Date or number (should be last one) then go to "PROCESS STATS" which is under "ENABLE BLUETOOTH HCI SNOOP LOG" and when you are at process stats click on the three dots on top right and change the duration for 1 day and then you might be able to find the application that is running in the background constantly, mine is Facebook lol and Facebook Messenger....

From that i cant see anything but im sure that you are facing a wakelock from the qcamera2factory, you usually get this wakelock from apps such as Skype and Snapchat, force close these types of applications and hopefully you will get your great Battery life back. Those apps didnt allow me device to enter deep sleep so i was loosing a lot of battery life and to check if you have this wakelock you need root because of kitkat permissions but if you dont want to root then just force close those applications and wait a few days and test it out.

Just search wakelock detector on Play store and it should be the first application there. The qcamera2factory is a wakelock inside of the "Media Server" wakelock. Check how long your device has been on for and how much screen on time you have and compare to how long you have had deep sleep, if you have like 10 hours of on time and 1 hour of screen on time you should have about 9 hours of Deep sleep, if it is anything weird like 1 hour or 2 hours then you have something preventing your phone from deep sleeping.

lol if you are on your phone all the time then you will see somethinh like this xD 10 hours on time - 9 hours screen on time and 1 hour deep sleep. lol
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector is this it ?
Hmm... No app like that (Skype etc.) is running on my phone. Could it be the camera app itself? Never had any issues with that before though.
My phone is not rooted. I just want to use it in place and not think about it too much. Researching which is the best path to root for Moto G was to mich for me back when I bought it and I have been happy with it or if the box - so far...
here was my stats after one night. kernel wakelock
CPU wake lock
in kitkat, wakelock policy was changed and you cant clearly see any system wakelock without root (i have tried many apps like wakelock detector and there is nothing to see in compare with Jelly Bean 4.3)
i had this annoying battery idle drain - it happened randomly, sometimes battery ran 7 days with light usage of phone but sometimes 30-40% was gone in 24 hours = 1-2%/h
i didnt have any apps installed like Skype, Facebook, or any other "keep awake" app - i also set up my gps, wifi settings, nothing helped
i also switched to ART runtime..again, didnt help
i decided to switch back to factory Jelly Bean 4.3 - you CAN flash stock ROM without unlocking bootloader (im locked without root) and now im running 4.3 with battery drain 0,1-0,4%/h in idle...battery life is now amazing - final battery drain is always ~0,6%/h (light usage)
im charging my phone from 30% to 80% and now it enough for 3 days ! for my 6h night it is only 1-3%
in background i have 3 apps running for battery monitoring (battery hd, batterydrain [analyser], gsam battery monitor) and few schedule apps...i disabled unnecessary apps like motocare and few other google/motorola apps
yes, im missing better alarm (kitkat), better RAM (now i have 60-100MB less...but if 380MB free or 460MB free...it doesnt matter for me) and some other little things that everything i can handle for MUCH MORE BETTER battery :good:
Mine drains 10% when it's in plane mode per hour...
But others days can last longer for at least 8-9 hours of screen time.
Is your phone running hot? I've had a problem with some custom kernels that caused my phone to run hot and drain fast without any visible signs.
this is after some time. im concerned by the second one on the list because it has Wheelock's at the end of name and it has x1441
I just rooted the thing and installed Greenify and GSam Battery Monitor. Now I'm down to 0,3-0,4%/h. That is fine for me.
It is a bit sad that it had to come to this but that is how the world works these days, I guess. Isn't it amazing how mch technology we can fit in these small packages?
0,3-0,4%/h is amazing !
im on 0,34%/h as final result now (BatteryDrain [Analyser])
yesterday i ended 5 days cycle on 53% battery i charged to 82% then with very light usage i need to charge after 5 full days (120 hours) on 29% (= no idle battery drain)
this idle battery drain is not hardware related, its issued by (stupid) KitKat - i really dont believe that it will be fixed in any next release (4.4.x or 5)
im enjoying JellyBean 4.3 much more than KitKat - all you need is flash stock system image WITHOUT unlocking bootloader/root/losing your warranty
