Is there anything you can do to reduce the lag in getting back to the home screen after closing an application? I've recently upgraded to the CBW 2.2. I've also just loaded adw launcher. It takes 8-10 seconds for the home screen to be functional.

Wow! 8 seconds is steep. All dexter based froyo's have a few problems. Although I dont use it anymore I remember what id do to tweak the whole ROM.
1) Use launcher pro, its lighter and faster than ADW. I also like its effects. Theres a setting in it called keep in memory which stops the launcher from being killed by android so there are less redraws of your app drawer.
2) CB froyo and dexters have memory management problems and slowly with use the memory goes down significantly. Download an app called Autokiller memory optimizer from the market and set it at the strict preset. It basically modifies androids native memory management and allow more memory to be free.
3) Use milestone overclock and set it to 850 mhz 56 Vsel.
Step 2 and 3 are assuming you are rooted at the moment. These worked for me really well when I used the ROM and I had no problems at all.
I uninstalled adw and things seemed snapper. I also installed the suggested memory manager. I had already been playing around with the milestone overclocker and its set to 850/56. When I run setcpu should it say 850? I have it set to 850max 250min.
Even set this way the lag remains when returning to the home screen.

Well thats odd, with similar settings id have a very decent experience. One thing though, do you use many widgets on your homescreen? And does this lag occur when you press the home button from within an app or when you close the app. One thing you could try is setting up a swap partion on your sd card. That always speeds everything up. If you dont know how I can direct you to where you can learn how to do that. Also how did you upgrade to 2.2 CB?
hi try the go luncher i think its the best launcher.

It's slow whether I'm switching to home using the home button or escaping there.
If I've set milestone overclock to 850 mhz and vsel to 56 should setcpu show 850? It shows 720.

Try installing Autokiller Memory Optimizer from the market and selecting the Optimum memory profile. That used to work for me when I was running that ROM.
I've found lots of launchers to have lots of lag returning to homescreen on both androids I have had and it's a common issue with android launchers. The only launcher I have that doesn't redraw homescreen every time is SPB shell (but it still has to re-load every now and then). You can try using a launcher like Zeam, launcherpro, or golauncher, nemus launcher as those ones didn't redraw as often as others for me. And if the option is available in a launcher (it is in ADW, launcherpro and Go) select "Keep in Memory" and it might help somewhat.
My XT720 has always lagged when returning to the home screen. I only recently loaded a launcher after hearing reverendkjr talk about liking adw. I only kept adw loaded for a day. Its not installed anymore.
I thought upgrading to 2.2 would end the lag but it wasn't to be.
I've loaded autokiller and set it to strict. I still have times when it takes 8 seconds or so for the home screen to be functional. I do have a 4x2 clock / weather widget on the home screen. I've tried with and without that widget and still have bouts of lag. Maybe I'm expecting much.

Yeah, seems a problem with pretty much all launchers. Stock MIUI launcher and SPB Shell have been the only exceptions for me really. Even Zeam has done its reloading often.

Dude, this almost sounds like a hardware issue or something. How's the rest of the phone? Like when you open apps or browse web pages. Honestly i've used every froyo build and ive never had it that bad. Sluggish for me would be a second or two nothing more than that. Like in my previous comment if you're upto it you could try setting up a swap partition as a final test. After that maybe you need to reflash an sbf and go through the upgrade process from scratch. That always fixes things.

Yeah, when I had reloads it was generally not that long. If I had a lot of widgets out it might take longer to load up but I don't recall it really being 8 seconds or so...

SPB is buttery smooth. Amazing launcher - check out reviews for it online (there are a bunch). However, currently it only runs well for me on either MIUI or 2.1 (on Dexter or WanHu ROMs it has issues). And while it doesn't reload every time like other launchers, it does have to load itself up once in a while when things run out of memory (it's pretty memory intensive I think). They really need to provide it with an update already though (more widgets + features + performance improvements should come sometime, but I don't know when...).
For some reason SPB won't show up in the market on MIUI (there were a bunch of missing apps for me). I emailed SPB support about it and they gave me a copy of one from their website to install as an apk and it worked perfectly. I did already own SPB from android market. You can go to their site and buy the apk directly if you want. It is more expensive than most apps, so you may want to wait until they do that long expected update before diving in. Still, it's a fantastic launcher.
Since Adw Ex doesn't seems to be working after the update...what would you recomend?

No problem! and definitely. I love the new dockbar up on top.
The update to adw is just about perfect. The only noticeable things are on the icon spacing and background alignment I am landscape. The default lay chef had huge padding area to minimize the spacing change between portrait and landscape. Adw uses all the available space for a the icon grid. The wallpaper in portrait is center aligned in portrait but is vertically aligned in landscape.
Neither one is a major issue, but would add nice polish

I installed ADWLauncher EX v1.3.3.1 and for some reason it is conflicting with the stock launcher. At fist when I clicked on "HOME" instead of giving me a Launcher select option the the desktop went dim and after I restarted, all i got is black screen. Even after multiple restarts this did not go away. I was finally able to fix it my uninstalling ADW EX Launcher.
Any suggestion what caused this?
The only thing I'm not liking about the new adw ex is that when you hide the action bar (top stuff), it comes back when you rotate.
Edit: This only happens on 90° rotation, not 180°.
Sent from my Asus Decepticon using Tapatalk
Sometimes I experience stuttering while flipping through the homescreens. Additionally, when I rotate the screen during video playback of 720p mp4 files I get a lot of lag during the rotation. I have the phone itself set to "no animations", I've frozen sense, and I have the screen effect setting in go launcher set to bounce/quick. As far as opening apps, using the new market, web browser, lock screen, etc....I have no issues.
I've gotten lag with Go Launcher transition animations with every ROM I've used too. I ended up just switching the transition effect to "Wave" and that seems to be the smoothest one.
And your question is.... what?

Hey guys just letting everyone know that the GO Dev Team has just released the beta for GO Launcher HD v1.0 -- a TABLET SPECIFIC version of their famous GO Launcher EX.
Check it out:
http://golauncher.goforandroid.com/2012/03/go-launcher-hd-v1-0-beta/
Fantastic. Exactly what I wanted the tablet version to be.
Issues:
6th folder created does not stay. The folder deletes and the icons are dumped to the all apps page.
Spelling mistake for the word "systme" When adding a widget. Should be "system".
Screen transition from portrait to landscape takes noticeably long time.
To much space between top of screen where google search is and first row of widgets only in portrait mode. Landscape is good.
Need ability to add more rows than 5. Even the custom option doesn't allow it.
I love it on my Epic and I am really liking this so far. Have not tried Apex but I have tried Nova on my phone and still found myself going back to Go.

I have no issue with the default launcher....
Awesome, I tried it yesterday and found no bugs...using 10 folders without any problem

Installed many different launchers to find that the default still the winner. About this one in my opinion need lots of work. (lag, wallpaper resizing issue, widget will not added unless you restart the launcher). Am not new to go launcher its installed and working perfectly on my Samsung galaxy Tab since a while with no issue....
Again its just my opinion with Go launcher HD.

I'll have to try this out, but I've never liked Go Launcher over ADW or Launcher Pro for my phone, its always been slower and takes up more resources compared to those 2, but we'll see how it runs on the tablet
Edit - runs really nice on the tablet, thinking its going to be a keeper
It's very polished and good features so far. Once/if it has internal icon theming controls similar to ADW I will probably use it exclusively.
I noticed that sometimes when moving or resizing widgets the launcher gets stuck in edit mode.
Aside from that and a few other bugs, this will be my new default launcher once it is out of beta stage. The amount of features and the ease of adding icons, widgets, and folders is really great. I'm glad the decided to make a tablet version of their launcher.
brilliant launcher, haven't had a problem with it at all, landscape to portrait does take a while, haven't tried folders yet... the dock bar is something I've been looking forward to, looks good too.
For a first Beta this is running very smoothly. I assume in the near future they will add many more features and themes similar to Go Launcher EX. The Go Dev Team always have put out timely updates. One of my favorite features that I have only seen in Go Launcher is app drawer folders.

A damn good start. I love the old Go Launcher but this new one is kind of nice. They need to fine tune the wallpaper application, also the window transitions are adequate but nowhere near what Nova launcher has done. I will say this, this is one of the nicest Betas I have used.
Just wanted to post that people should check back with the OP link. Version 1 Beta 2 is available.

They may be but go launcher is perfect with the folders like iPhone. Its also very quick to load.
Skang-a-Lang ROM: The Fascinate Continuum
Yeah nothing beats ICS-Stock-Launcher in Terms of Speed and smoothness. I currently just use the normal Go Launcher Ex with a minimalistic Theme and I like it ( I use very fancy screen transitions so you cant really notice the lag )
Does this Beta already support themes? Guess I will just give it a try, my TF101 is charging atm >_>

I think it may be related to gmail, i have widgets for gmail for several different accounts on multiple screens .. but maybe thats not why my launcher crashes usually at several times a day.
Not a huge deal but it makes you wait about 15 seconds while it restarts and re-caches the widget data (or something) ..
anyone else have this happen to them often and found a cure?

What launcher are you using, because Apex and a few others let you keep them in the tablet memory for better performance.

I have tried Apex and Nova paid versions even the beta updates and still can't get any of them to run as stable as the stock browser. The stock browser wastes a lot of screen space which is why I prefer one of the custom launchers.
Apex and Nova seem to only allow a certain number of widgets and then they become unresponsive. I only use 5 screens and usually only 1 widget per screen and then it's only on about a fourth of the screen.
If someone could fix this issue, I'd be totally happy with my Infinity. I don't recall this being an issue with my Prime.
Just hoping ASUS releases JB pretty soon and that fixes the problem.
I'm very frustrated with this issue as well. Using Apex, and it will crash constantly when I try to set it up with multiple widgets. I never had this problem with my Prime. I don't know what to do. I noticed that the stock launcher will redraw a lot as well when it's loaded up with widgets. Really hoping we can find a solution to this soon.
It could be a combination of the tablet and launchers not handling its cache very well. I have noticed it recently with nova. I have moved to using one screen on my launcher and has helped tremendously. I only use folders and a few widgets anyways and nova allows for maximization of even real estate. It might not be used for everyone but it works for me. Love using folders, and so easy to make in ics
i'm using the stock launcher, maybe i should try an alternative launcher.

i'm using apex. i have 2 minimalistic text widgets per page (5 pages), plus a UCCW widget on my main page and an HD weather widget on another. i also use multipicture live to set random wallpapers from a specified folder for each page.
apex hasn't crashed once on my infinity.
I believe I discovered the widget that was causing Apex to crash on me constantly. It was the Dual Battery Widget. Once I removed it, I've had zero crashes, and Apex is working like a charm. Please let me know if anyone else is using Dual battery Widget with no problems. Thanks.
I have been using Apex for a while now and was frustrated at how it crashed. I got it because I use a LOT of widgets and icons and wanted to max the resolution by having a lot on one page.
Stuck with it since I paid for it and recently tried updating to beta. Beta seems a LOT smoother. I will try the battery widget thing as well and report back later.
I was using Go Launcher HD before which ran pretty well. It didn't let me have the app density of apex so I switched. It sucks that early adopters really feel like guinea pigs with respect to the Android devices.
I have to say, that factory reset helped mi solve every crash problem I had (gmail app, games, etc), but I didn't have any problem with laucher at all..
I used Browser2ram on my Prime and now on my Infinity. No crashes and it improves the stock browser. Dolphin crashes frequently for me though.

I also removed the dual battery widget and have seen remarkable improvement in Apex stability. Before, I couldn't get Apex to run long enough to install all 5 of my screens. Now it's running great. I also switched from WIZZ widgets to APW widgets and every thing is real stable.
