Stuck on EDGE? - HTC Sensation

So as of last night my Sensation 4G has been stuck on EDGE for some odd reason, nothing changed I had been using Virtuous Inquisition, I tried flashing Quattro to see if it was a ROM problem but nope its still here only now i a random H icon every now and then?
Anybody int he Los Angeles area having this problem?
im on the latest radio

H stands for HSDPA, which is the (faux)-4G that T-mobile uses. That's the standard symbol in Europe, however T-mobile uses the 4G symbol instead. You should be able to find a tweak that changes the symbols back from H to 4G, but otherwise I don't think you are stuck on EDGE.

I understand that HSPA is Tmobiles "4G" i always used to get H and the associated speeds. But randomnly 2 days ago my phone will only get up to EDGE speeds, last night after messing with it for a long time I randomnly got 15 minutes of the phone staying on "H" or 4g,
I tried everything I can and can't find the root of the problem.
I came up with a fix (sorta) for now
I went into the *#*#4636#*#* menu
and changed the preferred network type to WCDMA only
this seems to have corrected the problem, but now whenever i go out of tmobiles spotty HSPA coverage I have no service at all?
can anybody give me some insight as to what my problem maybe

Correct apn settings?
Sent From My steak using A1 steak sauce app (Sensation)

What do you mean by correct APN settings exactly?
I've deleted all APN settings and Reset to Default Twice, but no luck

Switch back to wcdma and gsm preferred. Check apns again. Possibly being throttled by your carrier by chance?

maybe u recently changed your radio?

nope last time i changed radio/firmware or anything was when i updated to 3.24 for Virtous Quattro,
do you think reflashing the firmware or downgrading to 3.12 would work?

Oh lol. That rom doesnt support 4g. U need to get on with virtuous inquisition. Sooooo much better trust me. Guarentee you will have H "4g"
Superwipe then flash inquisition v3

where did you get that information from?
i had quattro before and H "4G" worked
i had Inquisition up until last night because the EDGE problem started on inquisition

sry for that. I had the issue on inquisition but it fixed itself

im going to give it some time, which is all i can really do at the moment anyways.

Maybe its just your network provider?

I called TMobile they weren't helpful they just gave me the whole pull the battery out speech, and said I should be getting 4G speeds, and that they were going to pass the problem on to their engineers and the problem should be resolved in 48 hours if not call back,,, im not pinning my hopes on that working out though

NOOB Question
can i use the older GB radios on an ICS Rom?
or rather will a GB radio work properly with an ICS Rom

Stuck on hsdpa (not H+) Noob help.

Ok I've rooted my phone via one click method. I have the rcmix hd 3.4 rotate Rom with leeroids 2.2.4 kernel. So far I love it except ever since I changed from factory default Rom I have no H+ or what I'm under the impression of it being 4G. Instead I'm stuck just a regular H with data arrows underneath. Any ideas for a noob?

Don't quote me here, but I'm pretty sure the afr001 and afr002 ROMs don't have an H+ icon since they are the European Desire HD ROMs. So you may be getting 4G HSPA+, but it doesn't have an icon for it.

I'd bet that is what is happening.
That ROM may only show an H. I know with the one AR ROM i was using it would actually switch between "E", "3G" and "H+" depending on what i was using.
Thanx I think this is very possibly as it seems I have moderately fast connection when off WiFi. Is there possibly an app or a reference to see if the signal strength or speed of connection equates to that of 4G?

Speed Test app
Just run a speed test with the app and you'll know right away what's going on.
Where do you live?
The stock AT&T setup shows an H+ icon even when in hsdpa... to let customers think they are getting 4g. Your rom is probably correct in showing you an H for hsdpa, because AT&T only has 4g service in like 6 cities nation wide. So unless you live in one of those cities you're not getting 4g anyway.

Wrong! The phone is using the H+ frequency, now if the backhauling has been done yet is the question.

There is no "H+" Frequency, 2G, 3G, HSPA+, they all use either 850 or 1900. He's right, they have enabled the "+" to show up all the time, even if you aren't getting an HSPA+ connection. It's very deceiving and AT&T is in some hot water right now over their false advertising, google it to see.

[Q] [help] Use Inspire 4g in the United Kingdom

Recently i bought the Inspire 4G from USA through Ebay
and found that the only network i can use to be connected to the internet is GPRS
I started wondering if this phone support the UK network (HSPA)
i'm currently using Three (UK)' 3G network, my HTC Legend works fine with HSPA
Does Inspire 4G support HSPA?? or only HSPA+??
You have to play around with the apn there is a whole thread about it

u mean that's the problem with my APN settings?
So how can i find the correct settings then??
The DHD and Inspire 4G are one in the same with a few minor differences. If you've s-off and downgraded, you can directly flash the new stock Desire HD Gingerbread ROM without all the bloatware from here. You will have to root using Gingerbreak, then install the tinny audio fix from here. Works like a champ. Of course, there's all the DHD GB ROM's based on that same kernel which can be flashed using CWM. Lot's of options here...none include the stock AT&T ROM.
so you are saying that the problem can be fixed by flashing a new DHD rom??but not the own problem of inspire 4G?
Yup...give it a whirl. AT&T ROM's are preloaded with their own APN and do not allow you to use the built-in network configuration utility at first boot. Just downgrade and s-off first. It used to be that the original shipping DHD ROM's would cause the I4G to lose audio. Now it's just a bit tinny which some do not like.
i tried this before, it doesn't work, there is still only GPRS network
i even flashed the latest radio just now, but it just doesn't show the "H" icon at the top!!!!
please brothers, i am also facing the same problem in middle east using inspire 4g with vodafone sim card. mine is rooted inspire 4g and i couldn'd get the 3g connection.
Hmmm...unless the radio hardware is different, and I don't think it is, I don't know what the situation is. You flashed the whole ROM right?

This thread has so much wrong info in it.
The Inspire 4G will NEVER work with European UMTS(3G) bands. Only EDGE. The reason is frequency. The USA uses 850/1900 for UMTS. The EU uses 900/2100. There is no way to change this.

No you wont ever get 3g with the inspire in Europe. It only has American 3g bands.
I don't know why this thread got so many replies with nobody saying this, but it lacks the hardware for your country. Sorry.
OK...the European ROM flashes to the Inspire, radio and all, and HSPA works in the US without a hiccup. How does the DHD radio firmware work here if the hardware is different? I'm assuming that the same firmware works on both phones but the hardware to receive the 900/2100 mhz band is missing. Oh well, learn something new every day.
FWIW, you may try changing your band on the phone by using engineering mode *#*#4636#*#* and seeing if you can play around with network preferences. Other than that, I think the guys above must be right.

Radios for Tmobile Sensation

After flashing the leedroid 1.1 Rom I'm getting pretty spotty 4G service when on the stock Rom I was gettin 5, 6 MBPS. Also it flip flops from 3g to 4g randomly where as before I would always get 4G and get 2g in little areas. Could this b a radio issue? If so what would b the best radio for Tmobile users?
Edit: nevermind the problem seems to b fixed after flashing lee's new kernal. V 1.2

I posted a similar thread very recently. I know you indicated it was the kernal, which i also flashed, however which radio are you using?
Link?
RIL
I wonder if this is because we lack the T-Mobile RIL? I know on my Inspire you had to use the matching RIL to get good speeds and such!

T-Mobile Data Connection Problems?

I recently upgraded my phone to the new ICS software, I flashed the Virtuous Inquisition 2.1.0 and then 3.0.0 they both worked fantastically but when I turned my phone on after being on standby it would have a data connection but it wouldn't communicate with anything.
So getting fed up with that I flashed the update given by InsertCoin ICS and then flashed the ROM.
It is now doing the same thing again?
It's very finicky as to when it works and when it won't. But when it works it works well?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

same problem, it works, but not well, it used to go from 4g or H to 2g, now it goes to 3g and hangs. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same here. Data seems really buggy on all the ics builds I have used for my tmo sensation. Not sure if it is firmware or Rom problems.

+1 I think I've had this problem with every android phone I ever had. I wish there was an option to just leave the data on at all times like home internet. I hate that it has to search for signal and connect every time I click something because it always hangs. Yea 4G is fast but if it has to dial up the internet every time I use it whats the point? The only fix I know for hanging internet is to toggle airplane mode. Which is some BS in IMHO.
Is there a way to disable 3g so it only bounces 4g to 2g?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I flashed the virtuous firmware update and formatted all partitions except for the SD card, and its been working for the last week very consistantly.
To my knowledge there is no way to turn on and off searching for 3g and only switch between 4g and 2g. Because I believe Tmobile's. 4g is just faster 3g? Idk.

Could be a radio issue. Try a different radio. And yeah wrong forum. You should either ask the question in the thread that your rom is in, or in the q and a sub forum.
not radio issue, same with 3.12, 3.25 and now 3.30.
I did notice something like that. I could work perfectly well for a couple of hours just to be unable to load any webpage so that I had to clear memory or in extreme cases turn the airplane mode on and off. It's been ok since I loaded IC 4.6.1 on my phone though.
Same here... The data network is suck and end up i flashed back the Gingerbread. Gingerbread better than ICS.
For those who claimed the data network is ok, try to use 3G data (not WIFI) and use application such as FB Chat, Viber or Whatsapp...
You will see the problem. I also posted the same question in this section.
Very bad, I saw iphone 4s and Galaxy running without this kind of problem. Just hopefully if someone can provide tweak on DATA network.
ok, im glad im not the only one crazy here
i'll try InsertCoin then to check if it works as it supposed to and report back.
thanks guys for confirming this crappy situation.

I tried different radios, ROMs, kernels, SIM-cards, networks but the problem keeps coming back.
It works for a couple hours - maybe a few days and sporadically locks so I cannot view any web page or use any web based service through GPRS. GPRS seams to be connected but no flow at all on GPRS. I havn't found any fix for thing. Just have to wait. :/
Internet works like a charm through WiFi-connection. Sadly I'm about to go back to Gingerbread.
I'm on ICS (ARHD 6.3.0) And have no issues with 3G/HSDPA mobile network. FB, Whatsapp, Chat, Trillian works all the time :S
BTW, I changed my preferred network from WCDMA preffered to GSM Auto (PRL) in the Phone Information menu.

For what its worth, I've had great coverage on VI 3 and 3.5. Like folks have said, double check ur apn (make sure it didn't dump or something) and verify that your using the radio recommended by ur rom developer and not just the newest radio.
