★ How heart rate measurement works ★
Measure your heart rate by just looking at your screen. Easy and convenient without needed to finger press on your camera lens.
Your heartbeat causes micro color changes on your face. Our software uses camera and advanced software algorithm to detect these micro changes, with beat-to-beat accuracy. The algorithm is built based on reliable non-contact photoplethysmography concept ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photoplethysmograph ).
You may even help your lovely sleeping baby, or your grandparents to measure their heart rate by switching to back camera. This breakthrough technology allows you to measure your heart rate in an easy and unobtrusive way.
This app works best, if the device is being hold still in a bright environment.
This is an on-going research being done in many research labs. To read on notable source regarding this research, please google https://www.google.com/search?q=non+contact+cardiac+pulse+webcam, or YouTube http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=non+contact+cardiac+pulse+webcam
★ How breath rate measurement works ★
When you breathe, your chest moves up and down. Our advanced software algorithm tracks the movement of your chest to measure your breathing rate. Make sure that your chest is inside the marked area.
This app works best, if the device is being hold still in a bright environment.
★ Note ★
This software is not intended for clinical use.

I tried downloading it from market. But it says my device is not compatible. Cank you upload the apk here?

I can't find any place thats bright enough.

Does not work with inspire 4G

Hmm. Interesting concept. Strangely, though, it seems to think that a picture of me has a BPM of 72...

This is a very silly concept, sorry... The BPM app that uses your camera works, because it can accurately register pulse rate from the capillaries in the tip of your finger. This app can no better guess a person's heart rate by looking at their face than I can...

You have a sharp catch! We are facing same problem as Google's.

Google's Face Unlock can be compromised using a static photo. So do ours

Dear Brainze,
In fact, this is an on-going scientific research, which are currently be done in many research labs. You may search for "non contact photoplethysmography" for more details. What we do is, we realize the above concept on smart phone

Note that, there are 2 important requirements in this app
1) Must be Android 2.3 and above
2) Must have front camera. In upcoming release, we may support rear camera, so that you may take your friends heart rate, stay tune

version 1.2 has been release with the following changes.
1. Solve OutOfMemoryError in Bitmap.nativeCreate.
2. Avoid about box becoming blank, if "Force GPU Rendering" option is ticked.

version 1.3 has been released, with the following changes.
1. Support back camera.
2. 2 bugs fixed.

Dear all, we just manage to release What's My Heart Rate ver 1.5, with attempt to fix on HTC EVO 4G with sense and HTC EVO 4G with CM7.
As we hardly can get such device right here, we would be very appreciate, if you can tell us, how the app perform in your HTC EVO 4G device.
If the app able to run successfully in your HTC EVO 4G device, let us know right here. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whats-My-Heart-Rate/289768547756578. If it isn't, please also let us know through the facebook page.
Thanks! The app can be downloaded right here : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vitrox.facion.gui

Awesome app..
Can you add an option for using camera's flash as the source of light?
that would be an icing to the cake

Thanks for the suggestion. However, we are not sure whether your friends will feel comfortable, when there is a spot light projected to him, while you are helping him to take the heart rate reading?
Anyhow, we will do a usability study and see how it goes.

Dear all,
We manage to make 1.6 release with the following fixes.
. Attempt to fix on HTC EVO 4G with sense and HTC EVO 4G with CM7. (Again?)
. Fix FPS calculation. This will fix "Keeps saying I need to be more still and need more light" problem.
. Highlight face rectangle when face is found.
. Update confidence bar in real-time manner.
. Add homepage in about box.

Hi!
It's a really great app, but the sound is really anoying and it never stops, even when I pressed the pause button, just when I quit from it. Please, fix it, or add a mute option to it.

Sorry. We unable to produce the same problem.
1) Does this problem happen in 1.6.1?
2) The annoying sound u mean is button clicked sound? Do you mean, once u click the "Play" button once, u will heard a non stop playing button clicked sound?
Thanks for the feedback.

I installed it from the market, so I guess that was the newest version.
The sound is a continuous clicking sound, like when a blood pressure monitor's motor is pumping the air. I tought this was intended.

[APP] Beta test - Light meter - Photographers

Hi,
I've been developing a photographic light meter app for Android. It has got the stage where it is almost ready for release, so I want to ask for your help with a spot of beta testing to work out the kinks!
The app can be downloaded here (just unzip the apk, put it on your sd card and install from there).
In a nutshell, what the app does is take a reading of the current light level, and display the correct exposure settings, it can also be used as a regular exposure and depth of field calculator. It should be fairly intuitive to use, but if you have any problems just post up and I'll try and help!
Ideally what I need is the make and model of your phone, if metering worked, how (in)accurate the metering was and any other comments/notes
Note: Landscape orientation is not finished, so expect weird layout issues there!
Thanks for the help!
Tom Reay
Hi - it's not of great interest to me due to the fact I hardly take pictures with my phone, however I would have thought there would be masses of people killing for an app like this.
Here's hoping you get the response you need as we need to keep the developers like you around that come up with the niche applications for the community

Okay I get what you mean by camera type, you mean the type of camera I would need a light meter for, that being my Mamiya C220 which is a 6 x 6 format film camera:
I will re-test tomorrow in the light day
Just a question: Why would your app need to read phone state?

Actually, its the other one
I changed the package name and forgot to remove the old apk!
First bug found by NexuSix, the devices should be set to standard unless you have an HTC Hero, not the other way around! However the app should pick up which device your using automatically, the device state access is for the light metering, nothing to worry about but glad to see people paying attention to the permissions apps are asking for!
As for camera type, most DSLRs are APS-C, I'll change the names to make it a bit clearer
Be aware that the metering is only as accurate as the hardware in your phone, which might not be very accurate!
Thanks for the testing so far
Holy cow, this is amazing. I will try it out immediately.
I have a Nikon D40, which, apart from being good and cheap, has the best lens compatibility of any Nikon DSLR, including the professional ones. Downside is the meter doesn't work for pre-AI lenses. This app is going to change my life.
Wow, this is cool. I will test this with my X10 and see how it does.
EDIT: It says light sensor not found, but the X10 does have an ambient light sensor.
Wow! It's p pretty awesome!
But I can't make the dof work... Near, far, dof, always zero...

A few others have noticed some accuracy issues with the DoF calculation, which I'm looking into, but it should work.
Can you try these settings for me and let me know what it does?
EV - 13
f/16
Focal L - 50mm
Subject D. - 10m

This will be because the app uses the standard Android API for accessing the light sensor, which some manufacturers have decided not to implement, I have found a workaround for the HTC Hero, I'll have a look into the X10
I'll try this app cause im a hobbyist photographer
Anyone try this on a MT3G Slide? My gf is a photography student and this app would probably "wow" her... I don't know a thing about camera settings, but I'd install this on her phone as a little surprise if it works...
Neat idea.
I try these settings, but I get this result (screen shot). I think there is a problem with units, when dof is too small its shows zero, as units are always meters.
On the other hand, in the screen shot, dof is 11000 m, but should be 11.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ok thanks for the screen shot, I've updated the app, can you redownload and install and see if its fixed for me please?
Also the DoF will be displayed in whatever unit you select when setting the Subject D., it can also be switched to imperial units in the menus
Now it works ok!
Well almost... If you calculate dof, and then you press the trackball to meter, all dof values becomes zero.
Great app!

[App][2.3+][BETA] WalkUnlock (Unlock your phone with walking)

Hi everybody!
I'm currently developing an App for my semester thesis at ETH Zurich. I'm looking for some new users who like to try it out!

Description
A lot of people want to use a password to protect their phone, but it is cumbersome to type in your password every time you want to use your phone. Wouldn't it be nice if your phone automatically knows when YOU are carrying it, depending on your biometric data?
Our research at ETH Zurich has shown, that every person has a unique gait pattern which can be used to identify her, like a fingerprint.
WalkUnlock locks and unlocks your mobile phone depending on your gait pattern.
You first have to train WalkUnlock so it knows what your gait pattern looks like. After that WalkUnlock is able to lock and unlock your phone depending on your steps while you're walking. (It doesn't matter how fast you walk.)
If you walk for example to the bus station or to your office, WalkUnlock will automatically recognize you and unlock your phone,
when you use it the next time. If a stranger picks up your phone, WalkUnlock will reject his gait pattern and keeps the phone locked.
Don't worry about getting locked out of your phone completely! If the app doesn't recognize you, you can always type in your password. But when the app recognizes your gait, which is unique to you, you don't have to type in your password and have direct access to your phone.
I'm looking for some new users who are willing to test the App on a daily basis to collect some data, which can help us to improve the algorithm behind the app.
(Don't worry, data will be collected absolutely anonymously and only sent over WiFi!)
Please remember that Walk Unlock is still in a beta phase. The application will be updated regularly.
For bug reports and feedback, please use this thread or contact: [email protected]
Features
- Unlock while walking
- Multiple Profiles (For different gait patterns in your daily routine)
- Wi-Fi unlock
- Sound output for recognized steps and successful unlocking
- Variable security level
Important Notes
WalkUnlock only works on phones with a gyroscope.
WalkUnlock only works when you wear your phone in your front trouser pocket.
The application has been tested with a Google Nexus S under Jelly Bean.
The App may reduce your battery life a bit, so remember to turn it off, if you don't want to use it.
If you want to change your password, you have to do this from within Walk Unlock, NOT in the normal Android Settings.
Reasons why the app might not work
-You're training set is bad (it doesn't reflect your daily walking pattern)
-You're not wearing your phone in your front pocket. WalkUnlock only works in the front pocket.
-Trousers with loose pockets are bad for the step recognition.
-Different shoes may have an impact for the step detection (but not a strong one)
Changelog
v0.3.0
- Added Wi-Fi unlock
- Improved power consumption
- Bugfixes
v0.2.0
- Added Multiple Profile Support

v0.1.6

No, the app doesn't work like that.
You first have to train the application, which means that you first walk around a bit, so the app knows what you're gait pattern looks like.
Every person has a unique gait pattern which differs from person to person, like your finger print or your iris.
After you trained the application, the app knows what your gait pattern looks like and unlocks your phone, only if it recognizes you.
It doesn't matter how fast you walk and you will never be locked out completely, you will always have the ability to type your password if the phone doesn't recognize your steps.
I will update the description to explain this better.
Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. It just didn't sound very practical
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
No problem!
It's not easy to explain what it does exactly.
It's kind of like Faceunlock but with your gait pattern instead of your face.
I updated the description, I hope it's more understandable now. If some of the readers still don't understand what the app does, feel free to contact me!
-Santsches
Would be good if you post a video showing it. Also, it uses accelerometer all the time, right? So battery is having a pain ;/
So the idea is rather good, but I don't use locking generally, mainly because this solution does not solve my problem. Or maybe it will? I will test.
Anyway, I bet coding and whole app must be really very compilcated and time consuming, so I really respect your work.

Thank you for your interest. I will see if I have the time to make a video, I'm on tight schedule, but thanks for the hint.
Accelerometer doesn't run all the time, the app checks for movements in some predefined intervals. Besides that, the sensors itself don't use up much battery, the main problem are the complex calculations on the CPU. I really looked into power consumption and did what I can. Overall the power consumption isn't as bad as you would think. I will do some battery tests to provide more detailed information about that.
If you don't use any passwords at all, the app doesn't bring you any benefit.
Hi, I'll tell you what I think. It is a COOL idea. I always like the ideas for human activity recognition and welcome to such sort of apps. I hope you do well your thesis. I will post my experience after testing the app. Have you posted your app in XDA Android App Tester community on Google+?

I haven't posted it yet in the Google+ community, will do that today!
I don't use google's activity recognition. It's an algorithm developed at our University (not by me!), but basically it's the same idea!

I just added an additional Wifi-Unlock functionality. You can now save your frequently used Wi-Fi networks and WalkUnlock automatically unlocks your phone when your connected to these Wi-Fi networks. This also drastically improves power consumption of WalkUnlock.
Cheers

Wow. This is absolutely amazing. Great way to promote your app. Will it be activate on all future devices with my play store account?
I really have no complaints. Small things could be improved like the smoothness of resizing the window. Overall this is a fantastic application. I hope you make more floating apps seeing as you clearly put quality first.
Edit: I do have one complaint. When Notification Launch is enabled, the X button on the top right corner of the window is redundant. Either remove it or provide an option to remove it as the window can be closed from the notification.
Great idea, bad outcome
This whole app and idea is excellent. The app itself and it's menu is also pretty good. But when you're actually using the camera, the photos are less then stellar. Is there an auto-focus feature? Such as tapping the screen to auto focus? I really like the idea but the photos are not coming out good.

There's an auto-focus when you tap the window, and, as it was said before, when you click the shutter button.
Currently there's no manual focus as the window size is usually too small to determine the exact location that the user wanted to focus, we thought that an auto-focus would be much better.

Edit: I do have one complaint. When Notification Launch is enabled, the X button on the top right corner of the window is redundant. Either remove it or provide an option to remove it as the window can be closed from the notification.

First of all thanks for the great feedback, we'll look into the 'x' removal option and check it with our beta group.
Second, the promotion is locally stored, which means it'll be removed on uninstall and won't be activated on future devices. It is a 'getting to know' promotion and our way of returning something to the xda community.

So the promotion is not tied to the account but to the device?
Either way, I think this app is very well done. I was able to get a force close playing with it for a few minutes by changing Snapy mode to no notification. For some reason, it stayed in my notification panel, but when I tried to click settings from there it crashed. I can't seem to replicate it anymore though, so all is well.
This is a very well made app. It is smooth and reliable. I will definitely be using this quite a lot for those moments when you need to take a picture fast.
IJust purchased an unlock.
Love the app, has a great interface and handy to have... but have some feedback.
1) the option to upgrade on the free version is currently spelled "upgrage"
2) even after purchase, I am still nagged to buy you a coffee... I have already purchased, so why am I nagged to give you more money?
3) the Resolution of pics are limited to 7 megapixel when my camera is capable of more.
4) possible integration as an extension for 'floating notifications'?
Please see what can be done to address this feedback... It's really good, just some niggles.

May I know if I can disable the camera sound?
Really Awesome , Handy App.. Thanks DEV!
Thanks, works pretty well.

I addressed your concern, fixed.
This is probably dead, but come on. I went there and saw the reviews, and your replies. You're not even listening to the people who were willing to try your app, they are suggesting a feature that is GLARINGLY missing (face cannot be seen) and you are dismissing them by saying "you don't need it, you're beautiful!" Don't be like Apple and try to decide for yourself what people want. Listen. We don't want a pep talk, we want a reliable developer. I hope you listen to this, because this is an app that you could easily hone into a great staple for many phones, it's something not many have focused on but a lot of people could use.... if it was improved. ? Remember, don't ignore negative feedback. There is genuine negative feedback, and useless negative feedback. Useless negative feedback are left by people who just say "sucks" or "bad" or "I hate this". They say nothing about the problem, leaving you to wonder how to resolve it. The genuine negative feedback can be rude, but you should listen to it, because that's coming from people who say " It's awful, I can't see my face!" and "Crap application, I can't see myself". While it may hurt your feelings, they are clearly stating the issue, and that can help you if you choose to listen.

Hi,
you such as the users who were 'complaining' about not being able to see their face does not understand the point this app is making.
pictures are taken differently and more naturally when you do not see yourself live in the camera lens. just like a photo shoot, you act naturally and snap a picture.
all the other similar apps show your face live so anyone is free to use them rather than my Bright Selfie app.

Announcing SeeFood BETA 1.0
SeeFood is a simple interface which helps you to recognise food categories with ease, a concept which was introduced in a TV Show (Silicon Valley) in S04E03. (Clipping here : https://youtu.be/5_U2TN0vk3w)
Disclaimer
1. Since the application is in BETA, it only supports 11 food categories. I am working on adding more as soon as possible. You can check/request for more food categories below.
2. I am a college student, and I don't have the resources to keep high end servers running. The app might be slow at times. Please bear with me.
3. Again, the app is in BETA. A detailed analysis of the picture(that is, name of the dish rather than the category) would be rolled out with next update!
Get the app here (Only Android) : https://goo.gl/Zh71ny
Screenshots

The usage of the application is quite simple!
1. Start the camera within the application by tapping on the FAB (Eye Button).
2. Click a picture of your food
3. Wait for us to do our job!
SeeFood can currently recognise from 11 food categories. Support for recognising particular dishes will be added with the next update, which is scheduled in a day or two.
More information about food categories can be found here : https://github.com/C-Aniruddh/seeFood/blob/master/FOOD.md
So use it, rate it, review it, and most importantly, SHARE it!
Great work Aniruddh!
Thug Sir! Great Work.

Is this 11 food categories that are all 'not hotdog'?

Advanced categorisation would be rolled out with the next update! It's ready, but finishing touches are still pending. Stay tuned, enjoy!
New update might take some more time, as I am adding some UI tweaks along with the package

Haha thanks
Please don't take this as knocking your work but, what purpose does this really serve? I just can't think of what one would use this for to categorize food when taking a picture since you probably know what it is you're eating. I must be missing something, and again not degrading your work just trying to understand what use this would have.

I understand! I am constantly working on implementing recognition of dishes! Currently I have support for 112 dishes, and with just 112 dishes, the inaccuracy would be huge. So i decided to delay it until I have enough amount of dishes! You can request for support of dishes from the app. Once the dishes are implemented, I can add average calorie amount, recipes, etc. But for that, I need help from you all! This is more of a representation of the potential of the app! Give it some time, and it'll grow
I hope to see you using the app with dishes support soon!
I hope you understand!
Thanks for trying out SeeFood!
Lol awesome work OP. I hope you've hired someone to troll through the bazillions of "not hotdog" wang pics on the interwebz
What would be really interesting is to see how this app fares up against the upcoming google lens. In their promotional video, they showcased a feature where it could analyse flowers, so one can only presume that google lens might just be able to perform this task as well.
Nice work ani
I'm a big big fan of the tv show
the idea is good

Haha yes! But competing with Google in their own game would be a mistake
True, but then again, it's gonna be a while till Google lens comes and even when it does, it'll be a while for it to actually enter it's productive state. Till then, this app could potentially capture the market and maybe, just maybe, be able to take the game into it's own hands.
No harm in being optimistic
