Mytouch 4G broke, basically? - myTouch 4G General

Hey so, im a new member on XDA, (made a new account) >.< But i have a MT4G and the volume buttons broken on the bottom, So i cant turn it on. it goes to the hboot menu, and since the bottom volume rockers broken, i cant scroll down to recover to reboot it. So im kinda stuck here becuase it doesnt let you scroll with the top volume rocker unless you scrolled down already (which i cant)
If someone could help me boot it up (via computer usb cord.. etc etc) thatd be great. or just tell me a way to break it so its not jammed in anymore? without harming the actual phone itself. Thanks

Does adb reboot not work, or does the button override it?
You could always crack the phone open and work on the button itself. Look for a video on youtube regarding mytouch 4G disassembly.

Same problem
Hey so i am actually having the same problem, but im not sure if it is software or hardware.
Details:
-Got the phone and it was running Stock gingerbread.
-Downgraded to froyo and rooted
-Flashed a few custom roms and now it is giving me problems of pretty much thinking that the volume button is always being pressed or something because when i boot i either:
a. go straight into HBoot
b. boots but then Safe Mode
c. Boots but after awhile the system freaks out with volume self going down to vibrate and then i have to restrat
I've flashed stock img .zip (PD15img.zip) a few times and sometimes it got better but eventually back to issue. Only thing i haven't done is turn s-on. I might do that but i've ordered the flex to replace it but wont be here for two weeks so i let you know.
Let me know if anyone else knows whats up please.
---------- Post added at 05:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:07 PM ----------
also when i do boot into HBoot and it allows me to use my rockers, i booted into CWM and did a key test and the volume down does not appear ever.
So have no idea if its software or hardware =(

If i do a battery pull and wait i can boot up normally, just did actually and then i can go thru the system fine but 5 minutes in it starts to freak with the volume down again. When in HBoot it freezes. But in OP he says that you can't move unless u volume down first, that isn't true i was able to scroll using volume up first. Sometimes HBoot freezes, sometimes it takes awhile then i can kind of scroll and either hit recovery or reboot (then chances are ill go into safe mode)

attached my sys info

To boot it just try a battery pull and leave it out (overnight works best) and u might get booted, or when in hboot leave there for awhile and then keep pressin the rockers and sometimes eventually it will scroll and do recovery into cwm if u have it and then reboot system

Okay so after 2 days of it booting into hboot, i came to the conclusion that after a little time (usually a 24 hours) it boots up, but the volume botton doesnt overpower the volume when the phones actually on (it doesnt lower volume) but when its off, it seems to be stuck and auto boot hboot. any ideas ? :/

i have no idea what u did prior to all this but i've fixed mine so far. flashed the hboot 86 pd15img.zip. pretty much when u can get it to boot after the 24hours use the opportunity to flash the pd15img. currently trying to unroot it and turn s-on... but right now it is working fine and i am rooted on stock 2.2.1

Update
So im guessing either OP gave up or somehow resolved and this is dead but hers update on mine.
Restored to stock 2.2.1 and hBoot 86 and then turned s-off back to s-on by rooting and then using gfree to turn s-on only. i couldn't restore usin the part7backup or whatever cause i lost it. anyways took a shot and then left phone without its battery for a few days. now it is running fine. have the spare flex in hand too so if it does mess up ill swap flex. if it stays good ill either sell it or try the whole process over again

Stuck in safe mode help

I need help getting the wife's phone out of safe mode. I rooted the phone and its on a stock rooted 2.2.1 rom and if you do a restart it loads the the boot loader screen and I can pick recovery and then restart but it still boots in to safe mode says it in the bottom left corner. She has apps and stuff on there so trying to get everything back but not really sure how to get this fixed. Also have pulled the battery out and still no luck going to safe mode. I guess if I can't get it fixed can I install a factory stock rom back on it to fix this? I know if I do she will lose everything. Just need the best option to get this fixed.
Thanks
"Safe mode"???? I've never heard of that.
Yeah it the bottom left corner of the phone it says safe mode it says it down near the home icon and over top off the circle with the up arrow. It looks like it may only load mainly core apps and some others but not all kind of like a windows pc in safe mode. And like I said I've pulled the battery out and rebooted and still says it and also from the boot loader screen picked recovery and then restart and once booted it still says it in the bottom left corner.
I gotta ask... Are you sure this is an Inspire?
Yes this is a inspire. I'm at work and once I get home I will use my inspire and take a pic of the screen with it saying it and upload it here. Mine I just got and haven't rooted it yet still a little unsure on the new way so you may see some questions from me on it a little later.
I have seen people stuck in safe mode . The guy was stuck in hboot and would not boot up. somehow he managed to boot it up but he said it was in safe mode. he was going to flash the gingerbread ruu, but havent gotten an update.
you posted in the thread gene it was titled bricked.
as to the question isse here. you might have to flash a new rom, though not ideal. But google does a good job of backing up apps/settings
I'll be damned:
http://www.technipages.com/htc-hero-start-in-safe-mode.html
This seems more applicable to the Inspire:
http://www.myvusers.com/forums/htc-thunderbolt/7426-safe-mode-htc-thunderbolt-adr6400.html
I'll try and see if one of these works. I think I read some where about the hero and tried it but may not have. So will give it a shot.
Thanks

Apparently the hero has a "hard" menu key. The Inspire does not so you have to ue a different "hard" key. I tried it and the thunderbolt method works for the Inspire (using VOL "hard" key).
It was mentioned over on #liberatedAria that you may have a stuck VOL-UP key so it goes into safe mode every time you boot.
Ok thanks Gene I'll try it for the thunderbolt method. Like you said the key maybe stuck. So when you powered back on you held power and vol up key and it turned safe mode off for you then? Just checking cause not sure if vol down does any thing or you always use the up vol.

No, I just rebooted. That's why we thought the key might be stuck.
yeah I think it is the vol key stuck as soon as you try to turn phone on it just goes to hboot screen. Sense I do believe the volume key is stuck does anyone know how hard it would be to fix this problem? I'm sure I can order a new volume button on ebay but not sure that will fix the problem. I need to get it fixed so I can get it back to factory rom so I then can take it back to AT&T cause I do have insurance on the phone but don't believe they will take it back cause of it loading to the hboot screen menu.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do to get this fixed? And would it be possible to use the stock rom or stock exe file to put it back to stock form to take it back to AT&T to get it repaired or can I repair this problem myself by ordering a new volume key off ebay.
You should try gene pooles s-on tool in the Dev section. Since you have insurance I would just have it replaced

[Q] I'm having a problem getting into Recovery mode

Hey guys,
I wondering if anyone could help me out?
My problem is that my phone isn't allowing me to start into Recovery mode. I take out the battery and re-insert it, then hold the Volume down + Power button, but it just normally boots the phone. What's frustrating me is that the first couple times I attempted it, it worked, and now all of a sudden it doesn't. I've had other Android phones, and I've never had a problem like this. So, any help would be grealy appreciated. Thanks!

I dont know if the same thing that happened to you, but but I was having the same issue. I'm used to my G1 just barely holding down home and power, with the Sensation I had to hold down vol and power for like 15 secs.

Go into Settings -> Power and disable the Fastboot option. That is what is preventing you from booting into Recovery. You also will want to enable ADB Debugging under Settings -> Applications -> Development
You could also try the other way by going into the bootloader then into the recovery.
Whilst the phone is on, reboot the phone. Once the screen turns off, hold the volume down button for a while until the bootloader screen pops up. Select the option to load recovery. I've been doing it this way.
Now that I think about it, maybe there's a way to skip straight to recovery instead of bootloader =\
It worked! Thank you guys for your help!
Damn, I used to know all this stuff, too. I didn't think it's been that long since I've tried to mess with any Android device. Errr
But anyways, thanks, again!

i have a charger stock everything. for some reason it will not go pass the boot screen. and keeps restarting. battery is full. can anybody help me out? Can i do a hard reset or something?
If you haven't modded it at all, it might be a hardware issue.

It might be an app you downloaded, though, you could try reflashing the stock rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108115
yea i was thinking that. i pulled the battery and everything. still nothing just keep rebooting and shutting off.

how about try to boot recover mode (this will wipe all data on your phone). Hold down Volume up and home button then press and hold power button until you see recover screen (blue), select recovery and press the power button to execute. Good luck and hope it's not hardware issue.
I had the same problem yesterday , I had to reodin to stock and it worked perfectly . But Verizon is still sending me a new unit . But it will work . Goodluck

My phones screen won't wake.

My phones screen seems to shut off and not wake up. I can tell the phone is on though because the buttons light up. And if I press and hold the back button the flashlight turns on. Also the volume rockers seemed to work but the screen stays off. Occasionally it seems to turn back on but but it'll just go back off again. Rebooting the phone doesn't working and I've also installed two different ROMs on it. Any advice on how to solve this?
Relock bootloader with fastboot oem lock cmd and download and run the ruu according to your phone version and see if the problem persists. If you don't know how to get into fast boot hold power and volume down until buttons stop flashing and keep holding volume down till you get See the screen with skating HTC men. Or if you have a backup in recovery you can restore from recovery and see if that helps your problem.

No. No backups unfortunately.
My other suggestions would be to make sure you don't have a corrupt zip. Downloading from chrome or from you phone I've had issues. Ei8 or ie9 works well for me. Hope you get it figured out.

That was happening to my phone. I found that if i applied pressure to opposite corners at the same time, the screen would come back. If i let go, the screen would return to black. Everything worked when I touched the screen, volume rockers, etc. I took it into AT&T and they gave me a new one under warranty. I was running CleanRom 5.1 at the time. I honestly do not believe my problem was caused by over flashing or any type of hacking. SO, try to flex or contort the phone in different directions and see if you can cause it to turn on and off.
I ended up having to use RUU. The problem seems to be fixed. Still don't know what caused it but at least it wasn't a hardware issue.
A thanks would be nice

[Q] Stuck with bootloop no bootloader access :/

Hello, just to start I have read through probably 100 post regarding similar issues but none are working. I have the ATT Htc one x EVITA 3.18 version. I did the super CID unlocked my bootloader through htc dev, flashed twrp recovery, and got a custom rom, gapps etc.. in twrp I wiped all data, system, cache, factory reset. Then flashed my rom and gapps (being kinda new to HTC devices I didn't flash the boot.img from the rom) now my phone after restarting just continues a bootloop (HTC Quietly Brilliant) screen, then powers off repeating this over and over.. I tried holding the volume down with the power button it just loops again, the I tried some other suggestions like holding power and vol down until the flashes stop and releasing power while continuing to hold volume down, again loops, then tried using volume up as well...none of these are working I don't understand what happened and why I can't get into any of these? I did not run any RUU. I tried using adb but of course i cant get into fastboot or anything so the phone is not recognized. If anyone could please help I really do appreciate it. I know this has been all over the threads but I read for the past 3 hours and could not get anything to work.. Thanks in advanced for any help it is much appreciated. :crying:
First of all, don't hold volume up and power, that's bad news. Trying random button combinations is a really bad idea. While it's looping just hold volume and the next time it starts again it should reach the bootloader.

Thanks for the reply timmaaa... I usually would not try the other button presses just someone else had said that worked for them, but thanks for the advice. I did try what you said and just holding the volume down button, let it bootloop, and keep holding and it just continues to bootloop :/ it stay off for about 20 seconds the same then bootloops, with the htc screen for about 5 seconds the rinse and repeats D**n this thing is annoying. Any other Ideas? Thanks again man appreciate it.

are you sure you did get the SUPER CID cause if its not then you can RUU your device!
cause if you are not SUPERCID get a matching RUU or a latest version meant for your device!
only if you could somehow manage your phone to get recognized by a PC etc then you could flash boot.img with some toolkit etc and everything would have been fine!
but unless some expert actually figures out your problem dont RUU!
i really wonder whats obstructing the boot loader access!??
please let me know if u can get your device back to normal!

I had to change the CID to unlock the bootloader on htc dev, its like 11111 so that is super CID right?
Yea I've tried everything to get to adb since I am familiar with adb but its a no go none of the tool kits or even manual cmd is recognizing the device.. I had a one x just like this before and never had the problem getting into bootloader so I don't really get what is blocking it. Only thing I had done was flash twrp recovery, wiped data/factory reset, system and cache, then flashed the rom as one usually would and gapps, just I had forgot about these phones needing you to flash the boot.img. that is all I did to it. Kinda sucks I just got this thing yesterday from a friend too.
Yes, 11111111 is SuperCID. In any case I probably wouldn't attempt an RUU while the phone is this unstable, could be quite dangerous. It's possible the "adb reboot bootloader" command might work if you catch it at the right time in the boot cycle.

Thanks bud, well I can't get it to catch even using super finger speed cmd'ing lol.. oh well.. I'm not gonna try anything else other than the usual ways to get into bootloader until someone else has some idea what might be blocking it from entering. Is there anyway to turn it off? its just restarting over and over with the bootloop. Or does one just let it go dead? I suppose worse case senario sending it for Jtag would fix it right? thanks again to the both of you.
I believe in the command window your can press the down key to give the previous command again, so if you hit down and enter one after the other (spamming it) you might have a chance. I'm really surprised that continually holding volume down during the loop process isn't getting you to bootloader, that's very strange. There's no way to turn it off. But, it usually burns through a fair bit of battery during a boot loop so you could wait for it to die completely, charge it for a couple of hours, and then try the volume down + power combination to get to the bootloader. I hope it works, let us know how you go.

Yes well on my laptop its the up key that's what I was doing was spamming, you can hear the connected device sound on then off, but it just doesn't see it. I will let you all know once its working again and what I did or had to do to get it back so that it may possibly help others that run into the same issue. If not I suppose I'll try to get it Jtagged, too nice of a phone to use as a paperweight really

Hold down the power button until the phone turns off. You'll see the buttons flash. This simulates a battery pull. Then wait a few secs then hold vol down and press power button for 2 secs while still holding vol down. Wait for bootloader

You should hold volume down while holding power. Holding power alone just initiates a reboot, not a power down, so if you're not holding volume down at the same time when the reboot kicks in it'll just reboot as normal.

Yes I don't have power plugged in, I've never had a problem like this. . I also don't even have to turn off the screen everytime it loops it goes off for a good 20 seconds or more. But I did try what you all said too and it seems there is not even an effect at all it just loops
YAY!! I was messing around and held volume up and volume down with power, and it put the phone into some kind of off/sleep mode, then it recognized the device in windows device manager and said device cannot start, so I tried uninstalling the driver and then refreshed to let it reinstall them and during the reinstall i tried running the adb command and it let me back into bootloader! woo! that was lucky.. hopefully this can be helpful to others that get stuck like that. I'm worried now though i have bootloader sitting pretty what should I do first? I'm scared to loop again thanks all.
