Capacitive Buttons Not Working - Workaround - Captivate General

A friend spilled water all over my phone and my capacitive buttons don't work anymore, making my captivate pretty much useless and can't get a warranty exchange coz of the water damage. Anyway, I found that the included Eyes-Free Keyboard in Gingerbread has a virtual keypad with Back,Home,Menu and Search Keys. You can toggle the Keyboard/Keypad by pressing and holding the Volume Up Key. Eyes-Free Keyboard is also in the marketplace for those that don't have it. Just thought I would post this for anyone whose capacitive buttons don't work anymore, and needs a temp workaround to get things done until they fix their phone. Enjoy

Better way is to install the ICS launcher.

Thanks ridhi. I'll try it out. I hope the ICS launcher soft keys can be used within other apps, coz the main problem about losing the capacitive buttons is that I'm not able to use the back or menu buttons that are needed when navigating through most of my day-to-day actions or apps.

You could also try flashing an ics rom and then flashing the on-screen buttons mod for the rom and those buttons can be used within other apps just like the galaxy nexus

ICS ROM with virtual on-screen buttons mod works like a charm.
Thanks j.curtis

Why would you use these sh*tty apps? If you're on CM (or soon MCR) you can use the trackball wake/unlock feature

Because I have long fingers and pressing the trackball to wake is uncomfortable for me.
It lets all physical buttons unlock the screen (Volume Up/Down, Trackball) and makes replacement Lock Screens like Flyscreen work more often.
This would be perfect if pressing volume up/down or camera didn't turn on the screen on the Droid.

And if you're not? Some folks want to stay on the stock rom. I'm not one of them but this app has its place. Your condescension is unwarranted.
thanks ive been looking for a reliable app like this. i was using that screenmode widget crap and it just wasnt cutting it. it would only work half the time. so far so good on desire rom. since no one wants to port over the unlock mod to the desire ROM, this is the next best thing.
Need some help over here
How to run No Lock via adb?
I messed up my phone's lockscreen and can't get my phone running (stuck at android bootscreen)
I suspect this lockscreen is the culprit and wanted to disable it
So I can run my Launcher
But how?
Can I remotely control No Lock?
Thanks

[Q]Volume rocker wake on ICS?

Can anyone tell me if this has been added to any of the current builds? I'm dying for a daily use ROM and it's a must for me.

I don't believe there is, although I know that there is a configuration to disable the lock screen so that pressing the power button immediately turns the screen onto what you were doing last.

my power button is borked, so i need to use a different button for my power button too, volume rocker wake is what i prefer too. there are a few lockscreen apps that work, but i hate their lockscreens. luckily, if you go to the phones main settings, security, and disable the screen lock. youll be able to wake your phone with the volume keys. the only thing is, you wont have a lockscreen to go through.

cyanogenmod options

Is there a way to get cyanogenmod options like having the extra settings options or swiping in the right corner to bring up quick settings screen instead of notifications without installing the cyanogenmod rom?

Not yet. You'll have to wait for CM11 nightlies or start working on your own.
I would perfer to keep the stock rom, I just want the extra menus and options like that.

Nexus 5 KitKat Bootanimation for Ace II

Hi,
I just created a flashable zip, which installs the original Nexus 5 KitKat bootanimation. I enlarged it a bit and made it as big as our screen is.
Download

I tested it on CM 11. If it doesn't work reply me.
Spoiler
It's installed to /system/media/bootanimation.zip with permissions rw-r--r-- (644) and owner/group is root (0)

Why? They are an Android 2.x thing. Since ICS Google wants that OEMs use onscreen buttons instead of physical ones.
Even on my old Galaxy Ace 2 I deactivated the physical buttons and replaced them with onscreen ones through build.prop command.
Now I got used to it and I never mind going back to these crappy buttons.

Question navbar button binding?

would like to assign apps to the buttons like longpress home for camera or longpress back for screenshot. is this possible? magisk?
also is there a way to make the torch turn on with the screen off by pressing the power button? im coming from oneplus 9 pro and it had all this. would be nice to have it again on the ultra. thanks;
There is button remapping available, some for stock Samsung's I believe. Example. Do some Google searches include xda to pull up results from here.
For display on use One Handed Operation plus from the Galaxy store. One of my favorite apps.
Very versatile. Almost no battery usage.
