Sony Xperia Play Vs HtC Sensation - HTC Sensation

I own a Sony Xperia Play r800i I believed unlocked on T-mobile US and I also own a HTC Sensation 4G.
Now the Sensation of course has a slightly bigger screen at 4.3 inches and the screen is a bit darker being QHD vs the Play's LCD i believe.
But I am trying to decide which phone I should keep and which phone I should sell and i was playing with both phones at the same time and I noticed that my Sensation is sometimes right on spar speedwise and often times behind the Xperia Play.
Which is baffling b/c the Sensation is 1.2 GhZ dualcore vs the Play's 1GHZ single-core.
Example:
Launching both HTC Contacts & Sony Contacts, the Play always loads the same contact faster. Sense tends to have to "load" the contact for a second or two when the play automatically launches it.
I'm using Go launcher on both with the same theme and the rotate times on both phones is equal though at times the play tends to rotate faster and the app drawer opens faster.
But the Speed of the browser is what baffled me the most. Now the Sensation is 4G so i didn't use T-mobile network speed. I used my own wifi connection to test the browsers.
I went to 3 different sites with both phones at the same time and loaded the pages. Flash was enabled on both phones and the Play loaded faster. Granted the Sensation did start showing pictures and text first by the end of the load times, the play loaded faster.
So how is this possible that a 1GHZ phone can best a Dualcore phone? I wish I still had my Galaxy S2 to test it.
Have you tried your phone against Dual-core phones?
Personally i am a bit torn on which to keep.
The Play does work out of the box the way it should however the Cameras on the front and back are awful though the Sensation is only slightly better....
The Sensation is an attractive device with a slightly brighter and bigger screen but at the same time it can be slow and the call quality is not great at all tbh.
It's OKAY but eh.
I wish I could root them both to see which is better but no clue where to begin.
Have you tried your phone against Single core phones? Notice any differences?

Well on stock our Sennys do have dual cores but the phone does not utilize the second one until it's needed. It reduces the strain and battery usage. It's been stated in many different threads.

Well given that I just got this phone and I only started frequenting this forum just last week or so, I didn't know that
SO to make sure I understand, essentially both my play and Sensation are only using 1 core until the Sensation actually needs to use the second One? If that is true, then would it have to "need" to use the second core.

If the day to day performance if the xperia play is only slightly behind (or maybe better?) than that of the sensation, then I say what the heck keep the xperia play.
I only say this because I'm a big fpse fan and the fpse experience on the xperia play is unmatched.
But that's just the opinion of a grown up gamer who is still trying not to let go.

LOL i understand
The gamepad is unmatched really when it comes to gaming.
THe only thing really is the camera really of the play...it is utter crap.
Well, not crap really but i have seen much better 5 megapxiel camera and the Front Facing camera is even worse
Though the Sensation isn't the best either.
Such a tough decision and Idk what to lol

for gaming sensation will be absolutely better, a lot better!
consider that Sensation got a new cpu and games are to be optimized for it and for its dual core cpu, that use only 1 core if 2° not needed
For the pad, xperia own it, and there is no discussion, for gaming is better than touchscreen
But if you search for pure performance, Sensation is A LOT BETTER
Sensation btw, lacks on OPENGL driver, and sucks at that benchies.. But for sure it will be fixed by HTC soon, maybe with official ICS

is Chacha better than SE Xperia X10i?

Hi guys,
I own SE Xperia X10i about 10 months that it's just a pain in the ass. It sometimes performs very bad such as no response, laggy and muted by itself during in the call especially when I got the important calls.
I'm really sick of it and plan to move to HTC Chacha. My questions are;
1. In terms of specs, a friend of mine told me that Chacha holds a slower CPU than X10i. is it correct?
2. The overall performance should be faster and more response than X10i?
3. Is it worth to move on to Chacha?
Many thanks,
Lee

The Chacha is much, much faster than the X10i. It's not even close. I don't know what the speed of the CPU in the X10i is, however, CPU speed is just one spec to consider, and not all that important in the grand scheme of things. CPU architecture has a lot to do with it. Think of it like two cars, one has a bigger engine. The one with the bigger engine might not be faster, because the smaller engine might have a turbo, better technology (fuel injection, etc) that gives it more horse power than the bigger engine. So it's important to recognize that the CPU in the Chacha is probably twice as powerful as the one in the X10i (at least).
Also, the Chacha runs Gingerbread which is nice and speedy. The Chacha seems to run quite well so far (had it about a day). I would recommend that you get a large, fast SD card to go with it, however, because you'll need to move apps to the SD card, as there is barely any room for them on the phone's internal storage. I'd say minimum of 4GB, recommend 8GB+. Minimum of a Class 6, recommend a Class 10.
I would definitely recommend the Chacha over the X10i, no doubt in my mind. The keyboard is fantastic, the phone is nice and quick, the hardware feels absolutely great (HTC build quality shows), the features are top-notch, you have access to a front facing camera, and the latest version of Android!
Best of luck!
Coming from another person who has moved from the x10 to the ChaCha, I can indeed confirm that the Cha Cha is a superior phone. It doesn't have the same technical specifications that the x10 has, but it does feel much, much more polished. The real selling point is the excellent keyboard, it's possibly the best full keyboard I have used on any small mobile device, ever. Also, for the first time in my life, I am finding myself using the ChaCha before my laptop to check forums and write e-mail's. This is genuinely the most excited I have been about a phone for a long time (considering that my last two phones were a SE x10 and a Nokia 5800).
I would say they are different type, chacha is a great phone for those who need an android phone with portrait QWERTY keyboard, or bb fans feeling bored with rim OS

I got rid of sense so RAM is not a problem at all. Idk if RAM is an issue with sense running since I took it off the first day.
Have over 70 apps and still plenty of space left
The screen is nice but there are two types one made by sharp and one made by auo. The sharp one is a little sharper but not as vibrant the auo is pretty vibrant but has a little bit of ghosting issues. I have an auo and I'm pretty happy with it.
Currently running at 1.7 with no issues

Me either. Everyone just keeps saying its better on paper. To bad real world use doesn't take place on a sheet of paper. Bottom line. Samsung is on fire right now and nobody can put them out. Its hard to deny that they know how to optimize their devices and create good drivers along with having super fast NAND memory and insane display panels. Oh and lets not forget. Engadget gave the GSII the award of having the second best camera in history only trailing the N95.
People can hate on Samsung all they want but their is a reason why they sell a **** ton of Android devices. All the Samsung haters can sit back and watch the GSII break the sales records for Android devices to date.

Might be getting a gs2. Though, not saying the sensation is a bad phone. In fact I love my phone.

I feel like the sensation is built better than the SG2. It feels a bit more solid in my opinion. The screen is sort of a toss up, the Samsung's does have better colors and stuff but the Sensations's has a better resolution.
The SG2 will probably have better performance in its unmodified state than a sensation, because of the lower resolution and the Exynos chip.
Personally, I would have preferred the SG2, but I ended up getting the Sensation just because the SG2 hasn't been officially released in the US yet. I ended up paying just under $400 for a new sensation without contract while the absolute cheapest I could find a SG2 for was $650 plus tax.
i will buy htc Sensation and i will installing custom rom but first what i should do ?? unlock bootloader from htc or what ?
SGS2 is ugly, cheap made and Touchwiz is horrible. The Sensation feels better built and Sense 3 is fantastic. RAM is NOT a problem. The higher resolution screen is beautiful.
Personally I used http://revolutionary.io/ S-off to unlock the phone.
If you use the HTC unlocked bootloader, you are basically telling HTC you have voided your warranty. But with http://revolutionary.io/, it can be revered and HTC won't know about it.

I've heard this from a lot of people, I came from a Galaxy S, and prefered TouchWiz to Sense, many great features over it imo (not the launcher or widgets, actual apps.. contacts, dialer, calculator, email, etc). I find my self craving AOSP apps with the sensation.. and absolutely hated any rom with aosp apps on the Galaxy. Sense 3.0 feels clunky and less refined.
Just my .02
Comparing hardware, HTC feels better. But the Galaxy was super lightweight, and super thin and ergonomically better imo (side power/lock button) but has a 'cheap' feel to it (because made super light and thin), but was very sturdy. Super Amoled screen looked good, but qHD beats it imo (extra real estate makes up for any lack of prettiness and then some). The camera on the samsung was superb and will really miss it. And comparing phone speed, as long as the UI is smooth and its quick opening apps, its fine. I'm not transcoding movies or anything crazy like that or running crazy intense graphics so every last drop of score in a benchmark is pointless to me.
Galaxy s 2 I wish I got one.

Well I had Galaxy S2 and at the moment have a sensation. While I had s2 I had 2 issues. Yellowish left side screen only noticeable até gray background and pink spot on photos and i replaced the unit, got rid of yellowish and almost gone pink spot but then had hd video recording frame rate drop at low light conditions... Well i thought, I payed 500 euro for this? So traded with sensation and this is the real thing that happened, even with the new 2.3.4 super fast ROM it doesn't compare with the speed of s2 but ok, is fast enough... Had touch screen issues already not responding to my command and having force closes with everyday apps and even now phone reboots itself when trying to play a game... Also phone calls sound thin and low volume, having a little distortion, audio recording also too thin. Already asked for a replace going back to S2 and pink spot and video problems since the rest just feels quick and perfect...
BUT I love sense, if anyone depends on it, don't go wrong, sensation and sense 3.0 is just so easy and complete, beautiful and with new update 2.3.4 no lag at all! I hope I had HTC build, responsiveness and speed of Samsung and sense... About the screen at the beginning I thought samoled+ was way better but now I think is a matter of taste and what we get used to...
Hope it helps

type in "sensation review videos" and/or "galaxy s 2 review videos"
???
profit
I'll just go ahead and say it like a douche--do your part and read the damn reviews. This same question gets asked day after day, and there are tons of review articles/videos done by the professionals.
Would you let your friends decide for you what car to buy? Or would you rather do your due diligence, perform your own research, and make your own decision?
I can't definitely say since I've never used a SGS2, but I would have gone with it if it was available in the US at the same time the Sensation came out. I don't get why a lot of Sensation owners like to hate on it. It's made out of plastic? OK. Tons of electronics these days are made out of plastic (just taking a 270 degree visual sweep of my room I spot a primarily plastic TV, a primarily plastic Xbox 360 with plastic controllers and network adapter, a plastic multi-effects pedal for my guitar, and a plastic alarm clock). It bothers me when people make it like plastic build quality is such a big deal, especially when it's in fact better for reception and consequently makes the phone better at its purpose. It's even worse when I see people moan about plastic build quality and then later I see them posting in the accessories section about the best cases. If you put cases on your phones why would you give a care about the build material? You don't feel or see it when it's in a case.
There are only a few things that I think the Sensation definitely does better, and those are screen resolution, UI, and build quality. The screen resolution isn't that big an advantage because the SGS2 counters it with better brightness and more vivid colors, the UI isn't that big an advantage because Sense was inherently finished poorly for the Sensation (lag city), and the build quality isn't that big an advantage because it has the negative side effects of the deathgrip and reception problems (and let's face the fact that "unibody" was a joke all along). The SGS2 outspecs and outdoes the Sensation imo in most areas. Easily the better processor, RAM, internal memory by a long shot, camera, overall performance, battery life, speaker by a long shot, etc.
Just my .02. The Sensation is still a good phone and I'll be keeping it till at least the end of the year, but I'm mildly disappointed with it. It's not that I regret it, because as a TMOUS guy it was the best option available to me at the time.

Same here. I actually love Touch Wiz. It looks exactly like any of the launchers most of the people here put on their phone. Its a lot closer to vanila Android than Sense is and its also a lot less laggy. The Samsung clients such as email, messages and contacts not only look better but they function better as well. I love how you can swipe on a contact to initiate a message or phone call. Touch Wiz also has better Facebook and Twitter integration. The only thing I think Sense does better is widgets but I don't use them anyway.

decision HTC One S or Sony Xperia S

Hello Dear One s Community ^_^
finally im able to upgrade my phone from a HTC Desire to something better... But i can´t decide what to get : HTC 1 S or the Sony Xperia S
i need a phone with good cam so:
first of all the software is not important for me i will run MIUI on it so HTC Sense is not important for me
pro Xperia S:
-dedicated camera button
- RGB Led
-Design
-720p Display
-highest dpi
-Normal LCD+Bravia Engine
-Hdmi output
-USB OTG
-32 GB Storage
negative Points:
- much thicker then the One S
-"only" a S3 processor
- smaller community
- cam software not that good
now the One S:
PRO
- Newest S4 processor
- better cam software (sense based miui roms)
- much thinner then the Xperia S
- its from HTC ( i never had ANY problem with my Desire and the Desire is still an awesome phone with the greatest community on the block after 2 years!)
Negativ
- LED Only 2 colours
- Pentile Matrix ( not that good i heard... )
- lower resolution
- only 16 gb storage ...
- i read that the one s has some build issues that the case has some problems
- no USB Otg
- no HDMI (yes with an adapter but then you can´t plugin a keyboard or something like on xperia s only with bluetooth @ one s... )
i really don´t know what phone to get ...
no fanboy comments pls
best regarts Melly
My friend got xperia, I got HTC One S.
What can I say about this:
1. HTC One S is much much more thinner, and design is better
2. Xperia got 32gb memory (I kinda dont care)
3. One S got 25gb dropbox
4. Xperia got better camera and also a button for camera (I would like one on S).
5. S can make photos of video easly, also I think it makes a photo much faster
6. Xperia dont have android 4 officialy
7. I like sens on One S
8. I didnt see much difference between the displays...
9. One S battery lasts longer. Xperias bravia engine takes its part in it.
I came from the HTC Desire to the HTC One S and i am loving it. For me i checked out the Sony Xperia S in stores but not the One S since its not availible in my country atm.
I found the screen on the Xperia S to be amazing, the pixel density is unrivalled however other than the screen the Xperia S didnt have much going for it that i required. Its a bulky phone that ran gingerbread at the time and the user experience was a bit on the laggier side. I havent been keeping up so i dont know if it has ICS yet and if it fixes those issues. The experience on the One S has been great and coming from a HTC Desire its a massive upgrade in all departments.
Main reason i chose the HTC One S was because of the size, build quality and S4 chip. The S4 chip is amazingly fast and effiecient, runs much cooler than my desire for games and i suspect it runs much cooler and more efficiently than the S3 chip found in the Xperia S. In terms of camera, both phones carry good cameras for a phone and the Xperia S seems to have better reviews but neither will replace you digital camera any time soon. I dont think you will notice much difference in quality unless u do careful analysis ;p.
To answer you question on build quality, the Micro Arc Oxidation version (Black) seems to have an unresolved chipping issue and it seems to be the luck of the draw if you get chipping or not. They grey version has none of those issues though. One thing to mention is that HTC are releasing this phone with the S3 1.7ghz chip now so better make sure with your seller before you buy it.
I think you will be happy with either phone but in my opinion if you loved the experience on the HTC Desire you'll certainly love the experience on the HTC One S.
Lastly i think with the new Jelly Bean announcement and Project Butter, when it eventually hits the HTC One S official or ported by devs coupled with the S4 chip, i believe Sense 4 will be absolutely beastly!
xperia s seems like another phone from sony that's too little too late. had they released it with a S4 cpu and ICS then it would would do okay in today's market against the offering from samsung and htc.
I think the One S is sooo fast!
Now i have the cm9 alpha 12 and its running very good!

I own both Xperia S and One S(S4). I think there are quite a lots of misleading
things on the Internet, mainly from poor review bases.
1. The major advantage from XS is the 720P LCD, obviously clear than One S. You can notice it easily. However, it does come with complaint, little yellow tint or over warm color temp. I'm glad to get an excellent LCD with minor issues of both but you might not be the lucky one like me. I do rank them at the same score unless you could find Xperia S equipped with a problem-free screen but the chance isn't high, you have to be real lucky.
2. I believe all HTC ONE will has USB OTG support with custom kernels, just don't think we will see it soon.
3. The smaller community one sadly is One S. You can go to the XS board and spot the situation, there are more threads and more roms, more active users. XS is a worldwide available mobile while One S isn't(it's, now, but divided into S3/S4 lines and S3 just isn't selling any good, at least at here - Hong Kong. None of us going to buy the S3, there are only little shops who sells it too).
4. Pentile Matrix doesn't has any issue on a 4.3" QHD. I don't know how well it performs on a larger screen with higher resolution, it may has some problems there.
5. Both design well. XS is a sex lady while One S is a pretty young girl. It's just a matter of taste. Personally, I would like to know which kind you(OP) are? just kidding...
6. yup, I like the LED on XS. It's better. But I also like One S which is thinner and light weight.
7. S4 CPU is definitely fast and not as hot as XS. The major bonus to One S and this is my main reason to use it as a primary phone. Another problem is you can't charge the XS while the phone is on and the battery temp. goes over 40 degrees(One S still charges at 40+), which is very easy to get to this temp you know it's summer now. I've tried to use air-condition flow or a big cooling fan to cool the XS down, just wish it let me to charge without turn it off. You know it's a horrible experience.
8. Time to speak on the stock ROM side. HTC is overall better, faster and not as buggy as XS(Sony UI is really pretty and there are more custom roms on XS, I think they could solve the stock problems). The battery consumption on the XS rom is superior considered it is on a S3 cpu. Sony manged it very well on XS, did a good job. I've to say the stock One S rom is only a little bit better than XS, not very good performance on battery, almost a well-known here. I know you will switch to MIUI, I'm running LeeDroid V2.1 with SetCPU and got much better battery life.
9. Finally, the camera. They both do a good job on their own, I really can't tell you which is better. They work exactly in the opposite way, very confusing? huh?
In general, XS takes excellent photo at outdoor beat the One S easy, not as fast as but not much slower than One S. While at indoor or low light environment, One S blows the XS away with f/2.0, XS got more noise with slow focus. XS is great for outdoor and One S is great for indoor.
XS does a very accurate white balance all the time outdoor/indoor but One S has faster focus speed outdoor/indoor. The XS auto scenes mode and close up mode works better while One S gives you a 60 photo bursting mode(old rom supports up to 99).
Video part is the XS wins. The video is more stable and the quality is also improved in the official ICS. One S on the other hand, let you shoot 5M photo during recording and offers a funny slow motion video mode.
10. At last, I forget to tell you. The Xperia SL(Lt26ii) will roll out. No one know the details at right now but it might be a S4 cpu or LTE supported device.
Thank you to reading my long reply and not fall asleep.
Just some quick updates to my last reply ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629134&highlight=usb+host
It's my fault. One S already supported USB-OTG now. It is just quite trouble because it doesn't provide power. We still need a kernel mod like on One X to make USB-OTG supports better.
And second, it's confirmed Xperia SL remains as a S3 unit. I guess no S4 and LTE, just some minor upgrade like [email protected]
sold my experia and got a one s.. if that tells u something. Got damn small buttons on the xperia got me crazy

[Q]one last desicion to make, and i want yours first ; Xe vs Xperia S

hi,
i know some of you wont bother looking at this "another comparison" thread and most of you will think "this is Sensation forum, what do you expect us to say" but i have opened the same thread to the sensation Q&A section too..
so my last phones were; HTC sensation XE and One X..
and my criterias are, in the using time order;
1) most of the time i ll be listening music,
2) checking my e-mail.
3) using GPS (i travel a lot and alos live on of the most cunfusing citys in the world)
4) web browsing
5) camera using for the places i travel
6) games when i sm not traveling with my car ..
7) messing with the phone, trying to OC (sometimes to get better everyday experience but to be honest most of the time just to feel the power for ego satisfaction and its not like buying the most powerful phone, its more like watching and making the phone grow stronger in your hands)
the 7 is very little time, ones the occupation occurs i am not playing with my phone anymore, i want it to remain as a good assistant and a journey-mate for me.
according to my needings i crossed out SG Note from the list due to its eMMC bug and screen burn problems.. a phone which is famous with its screen should not suffer from screen problems. and also crossed out nexus for not having FM radio and limited storage option (only 16 in my country), and i also crossed the SGS3 and the HTC One X for one being so ugly and having screen burns, and the other for having lots of problems to get over.. i have waited enough android to get mature and i wasnt willing to wait for a phone to do the same and catch up with its software on the quality side, not in 2012..
so let me get to the quick advantages and disadvantages comparison, this is where i want your help about what i list under and add your opinions..
This is %100 my opinions and please change them and advise me if you think any (or all) of them are wrong
Sensaiton XE over Xperia s
- expendable storage option
- good headphones comes with it
- since its the cuisin of the sensation, it has very big development out there and with the way we can S-off and S-on there is no risk of losing the warranty
- since adreno is not designed for fill rate like mali-400 but its good for effects and balancing the load it gives superp performance on the games with a qHD screen
- and the GPU is also OCable when i feel like the performance is not enough (it was alwasy enough, to be honest but still... you know)
- about the development, i am not talking about having lots of kernels and roms out. i have only used CM9 and ARHD so far. what i am talking about is having s-off and not losing the warranty, and having camera mods to have 1080p videos at 30 FPS/40Mbps and photos like 5 MB, and having bravia engine with ARHD etc..
Xperia S over XE
- XEs screen is almost unusable under sunlight and gets dust collected under, but sony has a perfect screen there is no doubt to that.. (but i am afraid of yellow spots, some people says its coused by heat and the S3 Soc is heating on average usage
- GLONASS GPS support. i never used it so dont know about the real life performance but it must be a good thing to have 2 different satelite type instead of one?
- 12 mp camera is better on the stock comparison but i dont know if it can race with the modded sensation camera
- the UI seems smoother overall and litgher then the sense but still i wonder; how is adrenoa 220 doing with that 720p screen? and will there be OC chance in the future?
- 1 Gb of RAM is sure going to be better than the 768MB one especially when it comes to the multitasking
so to sum up, my main concerns are about the camera and the GPU and the screen when it came to the Xperia S even though it is the newer one.. i feel like "ok sensations screen is not good but it will always be that bad in the future too but what happens if my sony's screen loses its quality everyday just because of regular heating of the device? i have given up from all amoled screens because of that thought.
and the camera, since the memory is constant i can understand sony wanting to reduce the image and size but i want less compressed video and photos, especially at night
and the GPU.. will i feel like i need stop one day admit that my device is not enough for playing the newest games just beause it can not handle the georgeus screen in a year? this really scares me. with the development support of sensation it gets 52-53 FPS on the nenamark 2 without OC with the last drivers but the sony is stock in only 37 (i know it will do every game unless it gets under galaxy nexus since it is the referance device for now but still...)
thanks to everyone who is bothered to read this.. and thank you for help..
so, you already have a Sensation XE and wanting to get an Xperia S? or looking into getting one or the other? Will you be purchasing the phone with an upgrade or straight up?
the external speaker isnt all that great on the Sensation, so if youre listening to music I hope its through some headphones or Bluetooth! E-mail, GPS, and web browsing are great also. I pretty much use my phone for everything, just as you are looking for. The camera, with the mod, is just amazing. Sometimes a bigger MP camera doesnt mean its better Ive never had a problem with running low on RAM so I think the 768MB is sufficient. The only thing I dont do really is game on my phone. I mean c'mon...with a PC and Xbox why game on cell phones?! lol But I can see if youre always on the go and hardly stationary that mobile games will come in handy. From what I have experienced, games run butter smooth once you OC the phone a bit. Oh and btw, youll love the dev community for the Sensation!
I havent messed around with any Xperias so this is experience only from the Sensation
thank you for quick answer. i had sensation xe and sold it. now i am looking for buying a noew phone and it will either be a sensation xe again or xperia s.
about the games; i play my games on PC and think gaming on PCs or consoles is professional hobbie but playing a game on a cell phone is just a good way to spend time but here in Istanbul i need to find many ways to spend my time because of the traffic and i travel between cities a lot.
sony is fooling me with its screen and the RAM.. on HTC the blacks are grey-ish a lot (not like a LCD-AMOLED comparison but still sony's blacks are better even though it does not have the auto brightness settings) and there is this dust under screen problem .. and i saw many times that my sensation XE had to reload the sense UI after i quit a game.
Haven't tried the Xperia S, but being a Sensation user I can say that it's camera is really good. I could get good pics in low lights too

Please note the following:
a) Screen of the sensation has similar performance on direct light than the Xperia. I have no problem at all. Dust under screen was a problem on the first units, but my unit has no problem at all.
b) Glonass support is not really a plus. As per the info available both GPS systems are similar, the standard GPS has better accuracy.
c) agree, Sony has always very good cameras.
d) If you don't like Sense there is no sense to buy an HTC device.
e) agree
On favor of the Xperia, it has a HD720p screen.
On contrary of the Xperia, I never liked the Sony Android UI. it feels cheap.
At the end is just a question of price and taste.

HTC M4(News updated on #55) finally leaked news!

News updated on #55
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_readying_720p_jb_m4_and_budget_ics_g2_for_spring-news-5462.php
4.3" 720P
2GB ram
1.2G S4 CPU(lol?)
16GB rom(still...)
13M cam f/2.0(same as M7)
720p front cam
LTE
1700mAH battery
Sense 5.0 on JB4.2
The CPU is same as One SV(down-clocked S4) but I doubt it very much because it would not make any existing One S customer to upgrade. So, I think the CPU should at least stay the same with One S(1.5G) or little faster(like 1.7G).
I think the LCD should change to SLCD2 this time instead of AMOLED Plus like One SV(4.3" SLCD2). I actually quite like AMOLED on phone because of perfect black but SLCD2(IPS) has better viewing experiences under sunlight which is more important to me. At the end, I don't care if it's still AMOLED or IPS, they both have pros and cons.
I have a high chance to get M4 because I don't want any size larger than 4.3". However, my One S is still lovely and used only 8 months.

I may wait Sony and see, they are also going to out 4.0" ~ 4.3" 720P LTE with ExmorRS, Qualcomm MSM8960T Dual 1.7GHz with Adreno 320 GPU(I think M4 will use 8960T). Model name: C5302, C5303, C5306 (Code name:HuaShan).

Well I actually lover the cpu choice. Everything runs smooth on this cpu, and with a less heavy skinned Jb (sense 5) this will only improve. Every singel game runs brilliant. I don't think you will notice its downclocked on sense 5 and will bring a lot better battery life I gues.
The display in the one S is great. But when I hold it next to the One X or the SGIII or even the xperia T it really looks dreadfull. The colors and brightness seems fine but compared to these crisp screens it really falls out of the boat.
I'm wondering what the impact will be of a higher res lcd display on the 1.2ghz S4 though.
There are some Sony alternatives. Something I really like about those phones is the waterproof ones. But than again the Sony skin on these phones are just lame. All that grey bled stuff makes it really boring (and ugly), a funeral looks more cheerfull than that.
As I'm looking to replace my One S in march, my preference will still be the Xiaom MI-2.

And I cant edit my post because my post is to short (less than 2 characters) which its obviously not... So umh.. Yes the S4 Pro quad core is a lot more powerful without sacrificing a lot of battery, but comes with a price tag. And I think this phone will be launched as a sub-high-end alternative for the M7 (like the One S was with the one X).

You can trick the Power Saving on in JB, it will limit both cores to 1134mhz max on One S to save battery.
yup, I spoke many times in this broad 720P is a lot better(I was own a Xperia S and that is only a suck TFT mon, not IPS). QHD resolution is really not enough for text reading though. 720P does drains more cpu power over QHD because more pixels to render on screen so it's questionable to make cpu slower while the device actually needs more cpu.
All 1080P devices go with quad-core because they need even more cpu power to render extra pixels. 8960T is just a dual core ver of 1.7G S4 but with a upgraded GPU(Adreno 320).
HTC is really slipping. Three is nothing good about this device. The one thing I hated most about this phone is the terrible memory and HTC made the same mistake again... Better off with the Samsung galaxy s4 or the next nexus device. I strongly recommend skipping any HTC device for a long time.
This is NOT an upgrade to the One S, it's a sad excuse.

Everyone has right on his own opinion, but I completely disagree with you with everything you just said.
I actually LOVE this device! the only thing i would change was the display. It shows quality all around. Incredible sound quality for both headphone and speaker, a slick (aluminum) design, great performance (was the best of its time) and a really really great camera. And although you can't fully unlock it and they released only a partial sourcecode doesn't mean its instantly trash.
Every single thing on the M4 is an upgrade for the One S, besides the CPU. And quite frankly I really don't see the use for a quadcore in a 4.3 inch phone with android 4.2. As the one S proved JB is buttery smooth on this chipset. Yes the IPS display will but its tax on the CPU, but with a lighter (and a lot lighter by the looks of the leaks) sense running on 4.2, I highly doubt you will notice it.
And yes I love the idea of the nexus serie and love the looks of stock android. But I never ever want it as a daily driver. It's just to formal and vannila for my taste. In the Gingerbread and ICS days i would have loved it because it was so much smoother than skinned phones. But JB brought a lot of chance in that, and the phone manufactures really stepped up there game with software development and drivers. Therefor a Nexus phone doesn't have any appeal for me AT ALL.

Great! When this phone comes out, one s prices will drop!

The specs looks quite ok... But wtf? 1.2Ghz cpu speed? WHY!? Ive downclocked my S to 1.2Ghz a few times to save battery, and the difference is very noticable in speed. The battery I save I lose right away when having to wait extra long for something to finish loading.

Since every other mid-range phone is running S4 1.5G now, I don't think HTC will use 1.2G on their 2013 new phone. Sony's up coming mid-range will use MSM8960T 1.7G dual, I think HTC will just follow Sony.

Hey, sorry to forget mention about Xiaom MI-2. We have many chances to use China smartphone/tablet here in Hong Kong. I've to say it depends on your usage.
They are general powerful on hardware and cheap at price because they cut the cost from software development. You have no chance to get a stock rom close to the HTC/Samsung/Sony level, don't even to think get as many updates as HTC. So, the performance totally depends by custom roms and flash rom is almost a necessary on China stuffs. I see Xiaom MI-2 got a dev broad on XDA now.
If you are going to use it with only some general apps and not a heavy usage user, the stock rom may works fine and China stuffs almost never come with google playstore and map and others google apps, you have to get root access and install them by yourself. Not sure about Xiaom MI-2.
AW: HTC M4(One S upgrade) finally leaked news!
I think apart from the weak cpu clockspeed(hopefully they will change to something like 1.5-1.7ghz), this phone is nice. But I think I am gonna keep my one S for this year and afterwards there will be new phones as well, so no need to buy one. One S is still just fine for everything.

Thanks for your insight. But I think the MI-2 is worth another look. It's roots in rom development (the famous MIUI rom's) which are so succesfull they started building phones there self. I actually love the software and see more future in than in sense or touchwiz UX. They have monthly updates which are based on the miui community and by the looks of the reviews and benchmarks the firmware seems very optimized (all most the speed of the nexus 4, better audio quality than most high end phones, and photo quality is on par with the iphone and sony/samsung devices).
Many people view this phone as another cheap china phone, but I think it deserves a lot more credit than that. There are reports Xiaomi will bring the MI-2 to the US market this year, and is getting a lot of support all round (did i mention Qualcomm is one of the biggest investors?).
I don't want to sounds like this is the best phone on the market or that I'm completely sure I'm going to get one, i just want to raise it out of the budget phone segment.
HTC One S is ok for the average joe but if you want to...
i have an un branded HTC ONE S, which has been good to me in terms of using custom roms/kernels without too much hassle.
rooting on the other hand was bit of a nightmare, but that was due to me not reading all that i could before i tried, which leads me to the pain in the a** S-ON and having to flash boot kernels/recoveries with ADB (which is no longer a problem with FLASH IMAGE GUI supporting our device)
also the16gb rom is a bit low...would like to have the ability to upgrade to 32
i really dont see too much of an upgrade for our device , the HTC One S is ok for the average joe but if you want to root and mess round with custom roms and kernels, choose another device to upgrade to
This is so annoying. Still using 16 GB of internal memory, and now with 13mp camera (useless) so we can only fit 10 pictures.
Also, I guarantee this is gonna be S4 Plus (not Pro) and therefore it will have the Adreno 305 GPU. The old S4 Plus which the One S has, contains an Adreno 225, which is actually a lot faster than the 305.
So take a slower GPU and pair it with a 720p screen (instead of our 540p), take away some CPU performance as well, and what do you get?
And a 13 mp camera, seriously, I thought the "megapixel race" ended ages ago. How many people actually print out billboards from pictures taken on your phone? Just focus on lens quality and aperture, leave the megapixels at 8. Hell, even 5 is more than enough, I never take pictures at more than 2 mp myself.
HTC is digging its own grave.

Lol, bit of an exaggeration there.......
I have had over a 1000 photos (including lots of 1080P and slow motion footage) on my S and still had 5GB left. I don't store any music on my phone so 16GB is more than enough for me and is for many others, nexus 4 16 and 8GB models as well as iphones etc. sell well enough so the ones who want 32GB+ internal and/or a SD slot are in a small minority.
Also, we have no idea yet as to what the camera lens etc. is not to mention software/driver tweaks/optimisation, so how can you judge the camera when the phone specs etc. haven't even been confirmed
Regarding the M7 camera;
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-m7-rumored-carry-43-ultrapixel-camera
So it could be the same for the M4, just the way the camera on the X and S are the same.
HTC obviously has got everything wrong if they expect people to NOT store music on a "beats" branded phone.

yup, both CPU/GPU will be slower than One S if it is real using the Qualcomm S4 Plus MSM8930 Dual 1.2G but I doubt that because it will happen the case on One S(S3) again, a great smartphone with slower cpu and terrible sales result.
The M7/M4 will both likely using the technology similar to Foveon X3 RGB 3CMOS on DSLR. It means 3 x 4.3M CMOS combined together to output a 13M photo, you get perfect color and white balance reproduction this time. However, low light and high ISO might be even worse because three CMOS there to share the aperture now, the photo should be darker and more noises appear.
It is absolutely a killer to Nokia Pureview808 and the upcoming Nokia Lumia 950(WP8 with Pureview808) in summer but might not be on the same boat with original One X/S and Nokia 920 which targeted at low lighting environment. I'll see how M7/M4 to handle low light with this new 3CMOS because low light is more important to me.

Because often when one is in low light conditions and wants to take pictures, they don't usually have their hefty DSLR kit with them. People only carry that stuff around when it's planned. If you go out for some drinks in the evening and want to take some pictures, the One S works wonders, and hence I actually really appreciate its ability to take decent pics in those scenarios without a flash.
Looks like I'll either be skipping an upgrade this year and stick with the One S, or sadly move to a different brand. Unless the M4 turns out to be different.

I imagine the black M7 will be similar to the black m4. M4 looks quite curvy/ergonomic and a bit thick so it looks like it will feel comfortable/nice in the hand.
By the looks of it, the speakers are on the front of the M7 too Also I am glad that they aren't going any bigger than 4.7".
