yes but there are conditions...you need a smartphone with an att simcard from straight talk but they also use T-Mobile and have weird ways of locking sim cards to a certain type of phone.
don't just buy ant strait talk phone. I've only seen reports that the $200 Nokia phones have compatible sim cards and half of those use T-Mobile and I don't know if there is a way to tell before you buy the phone.

Yes.

Unlocked S3

Hello. Just wondering if anyone can tell me if an unlocked Verizon S3 can work for other carriers? Such as Straight Talk, Simple Mobile,????
I don't have an account at Verizon but have a chance to buy an unlocked and rooted (no rom picked yet) Galaxy S3 at a good price.
But I need to know if it would work on another carrier. Thanks for your time...

I was told on another forum that I need to unlock the sim. I haven't found how to do that and the person selling this phone doesn't know about that. I don't have another micro sim to try in it. Any suggestions? Thanks
You cant unlock it. Its a cdma device. And the sim is only for lte, not for any other services

Really? That is encouraging. Thank-you. I can get such a great deal on this phone, hate to pass it up but do want to be able to use it too. Thanks to you all.
Got text to work also.

[Q] Is SCH-I535v same as SCH-I535

I am buying a verizon galaxy S3 off craigs list and the model number is SCH-I535V , is it the same as SCH-I535 ?
Also what is the best way to unlock it to use with AT&T with most functionality. Please point me to the appropriate "how to"s if possible.
Thanks in advance.

Wow, I had read sometime back there was some work going on regarding this....so no headway yet huh, must be some lock these guys put up.
I am going to take your advice and stay away from this phone then as I need it to work with ATT here and other gsm networks abroad.

[Q] How to activate on Sprint?

I am switching from AT&T to Sprint and I just purchased the Unlocked Nexus 5 on Google Play. What exactly do I have to do in order to activate my phone on the Sprint Network? I am used to just popping my SIM card into the new phone and it works but I know Sprint is a CDMA network and does not use SIM cards.
1. How do I get the phone activated on Sprint
2. Will it run just as good on Sprint as it would on AT&T? It will still work with LTE right?

Sprint does not have a byod line as far as I know unless you are going prepaid. Nobody knows yet if any of the mvnos will activate the nexus 5. You could always get an Iphone or something on your new line and sell it to cover your nexus cost and then some.
For a new line it would be much easier just to buy from sprint for $49.
Coverage/LTE will depend on your area but yes it will work.

According to this page the Unlocked version will work on Sprint:
http://www.ibtimes.com/nexus-5-release-date-unlocked-model-will-run-sprint-network-1452872
I probably will get an iPhone or something just to sell it since I will be able to get a new phone on contract pricing but I still need to know how to actually activate my Nexus when I get it. I was thinking about getting the $50 Nexus through Sprint but I am afraid if I do that I it will not be the exact same model. I don't want any Sprint bloatware on my phone and I don't want to get updates later than the rest. I also want to make sure the phone I get is heavily supported by developers. There is just too many unknowns on the Sprint model that I am scared to get it.
So anyway, do I just call Sprint to activate my device?

There is no 'sprint' model they are the same device. So to activate you will need to get a sim card from sprint and then you can either chat, call, use the online activation or go to the store to get set up.

To get a SIM, either go into the Sprint store. Or go online to the chat (you'll need an existing Sprint acct for this).
To activate, just call the big S and give them the info that they ask for
There's a thread going about this already that has some good info:

Sorry but just to be clear, Sprint will sell an unlocked phone? Has that ever been done before? Do you have a source? Not to discredit you but it seems that I should just buy it from Sprint instead of Google Play if there is no real differences. I just want to be sure.

I don't have a source atm, but that's all I've heard around the forums. You need to start a 2 year contract to get the phone at their low price though ($50 I think?). They're selling an off-contract one for $400 too. Same device all around.

This is the first time they have ever done it. This also means that the phone will be updated directly by google, with no carrier approvals/delays- which is also unprecedented for CDMA.
I myself am very surprised more people are not talking about this.
I stopped at a Sprint store today and asked about activating a phone bought from Google directly and they said it couldn't be done? Is that the case? I have about 5 months remaining on my contract with Sprint before I go on to another carrier.

Good deal. Will order a SIM tomorrow. So 1 device, all 3 carriers? Perfect.
Tried chat last night, and then calling in today but getting the run around. Was told I had to go corporate repair store; called store and was told that they don't normally stock SIM cards and that they won't have a N5 compatible one for a while until there shipment of phones comes in. I have sero account but this is the first time it has been an issue getting service.

[Q] Anyone here with 32GB version activated on Sprint yet?

Hello all,
Has anyone here actually activated their 32GB Nexus 5 on the Sprint network yet?
Both my device and CZ2102LWR SIMCARD LTEGSM 3FF USIM have shipped.
I have read on S4GRU that even if you have all your ducks in a row you still cannot activate until the 8th.
It would appear the MEIDs for the cards being shipped are not in the Sprint database yet?
Is this a rumor, speculation or fact?
Anyone...?

I have the HTC One, and if I can just use the SIM from my current phone, that would be amazing!! I've been with Sprint forever, so I am not all that familiar with SIMs, haha
I dont think you can use a sim card from a s4 or htc one if its been activated on that device already.

Hoping I can use that sim in Nexus 5.

Some how I wont be surprised if they won't activate the phones bought from the play store.
Thankfully I got a tmo prepaid sim so I can actually use my phone.

I'm multitasking at work and don't have time to hunt it down, but if you browse the Sprint forums on their website and search for Nexus 5, you'll see plenty of posts where Sprint representatives have confirmed that the Play Store version will work on Sprint. Basically, we're at the point now that we know they will work, it's just that Sprint needs to get their crap together because they weren't prepared for people to start trying to activate them this early.
I've already contacted Sprint and gotten my early termination fee amount. At this point I'd be doing them a favor by playing out my contract. If they give me issues activating the phone it'll just push me to T-Mobile that much faster.

If I order one directly from Google's Play Store, will I be able to activate it?
"Ninja_CJ Nov 1, 2013 11:45 AM (in response to DrMassenburg)
Yes, you can activate on Sprint. You will need to obtain a Sprint UICC (LTE SIM) from Sprint retail / dealer / web / tele and install, which should pair UICC to MEID automatically. You then go to sprint.com/activate to set up service. Note: In between power-on and Sprint provisioning there is an initial 128 MB update so make sure you're in a WiFi capable area during initial setup of an "unlocked" device."

To those having trouble, definitely keep us in the loop. I would also recommend asking for a manager if you call in. It really sounds like an issue of Sprint just not being properly prepared for people activating yet. I had wondered if this would happen since they're still taking preorders.

What other carriers will this work with ?

I've finally upgraded from my Verizon S3 and am contemplating selling it locally. What I've seen with a lot of people who buy used phones is them wanting to use them with other carriers. So, does anyone know what carriers this can be flashed to ?

I know the safe carriers would be those that use Verizon's network:
Page Plus
Straight Talk
Net 10
It does have a SIM card and GSM radio so in theory it should work on ATT and TMo but I'd probably not tell people it will.
