Hi all,
This is acctually my third Pro 7, I really love this phone.
Has anyone tought, what could be next successor of Pro 7/WiMo Mango,
withe same formfactor.
Regards
I too love my 7 Pro. But really think it should have a bigger screen! I nearly exchanged it for a HD7 the other week.
But until another Windows Phone comes out with a faster CPU, bigger screen and landscape keyboard I will probably keep my good old 7 Pro

I was actually wondering the same thing about a wk ago...
All my research showed nothing I couldnt even find a whisper. Now that I have internet sharing I can go a year without a new phone if need be.
If you find anything though post it here so we can drool
well nothing yet...
I really hope that nokia surprises us
Yup same here. Bigger screen would be nice... AND S-AMOLED .. But other than that, really great piece of hardware... Really well built, firm... Good design, slim etc... All and all, a really great device, best I ever had. I think I will be using this also for a long time. Thats why I updated the memory to 32gb.
Nokia will be coming out with a device for us, but when I dont know... I do know that at least partly it has to do with the OS not fully supporting landscape. Which of course can feel little weird for someone when using the hw kb, but for me it does not matter. Landscape works where it needs.
Off topic, but does anyone else find the keyboard a bit clunky to use?
I came from a Touch Pro 2 and I sometimes feel I've been downgraded(dont get me wrong, I definitely dont miss having to soft reset the phone every day). I could easily churn out a paragraph without having to look; but after nearly a year of acclimating to the handset, I still miss a stroke every other word
Not really. You will get used to this one... Unless you have HUGE fingers
I actually love this phone. but I do not have a free navigation application can use.
Never mind.
Heard on the rumour mill (can't remember where, so sorry, no links) that Acer were developing an Apollo (WP8) device with HKB.....
Sent from my 7 Pro T7576 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hey, guys, I love this form factor - horizontal slider with QWERTY keyboard and tilting screen. But it has become rare these days. Unfortunately, the majority of brainwashed crowds out there want thin phones without keyboards.
I am looking for a new phone with the same form factor. With Android or WP.
Recently, HTC made an announcement that they will not release any more phones with keyboard. That's horrible
Motorola Droid 4 is good but it is not sold in Europe
So I continue looking around...
just bought my 4th 7 Pro, at least now there is AMEX insurance on it.
keeping it locked cabinet until this one dies
anyone knows good full body protective skin for 7 Pro?

Hey guys, would you recommend the HTC G1 or the Touch Pro? I already have the G1 but am about to get the AT&T Fuze and am wondering which one I should keep? I really really like the G1's screen and it's legibility in sunlight and capacitive touch screen. But what I like about the Touch Pro is the TV output and Windows Mobile OS. I also have a Tilt that I am trying to get rid of but still keep because of the GPS. I have iGuidance 4 nav software for Windows Mobile but there doesn't appear to be any nav software for the G1 that is not based on data yet. What should I do?

Fuze has better build quality, winmo, pressure sensitive screen... G1 has the opposite of those, take your pick. I prefer Android myself, so I'm waiting for a phone to come to AT&T with it, but the Fuze is a damn good device.
G1 Or Touch Pro
lets see, they both have their pro's and cons, but if it were me I would go with the touch pro, owning a kaiser and g1 I would have to say they both have their pros and con's but, android is still in its infancy as it is, and even though its an awesome OS its not really as robust as I would like to be... so that didn't help at all so let me break it down the way I see it
HTC Touch Pro
Pro's: (No Pun Intended)
windows mobile 6.1 OS is well developed
more ram and rom, arguably running faster
vga resolution screen
Cons:
no capitavie screen like you mentioned
washes out in sunlight again like you mentioned
not as crash free as android
little more pricey
G1
Pro's:
android os almost crash free
very simplified os no frills
can see in sunlight
capative screen
Con's
few customization options
slower less ram (subjective the android os doesn't need nearly as much resources as winmo)
qvga resolution screen
Sorry if it sounds one sided, but to me the touch pro definitly has the edge up for now because it has the OS that is matured as it is and seems to have the most dev support, personnaly myself, owning the afore mentioned machines, they both definity have their ups and down's I will like wise soon be upgrading to the touch pro, but I will not be throwing my g1 out because in a year or two in my opinion the android platform could very well bypass and clean house with the windows mobile os... so yeah my 2 yen on the subject hope that helps.... (sorry about the bad sp I just switched over to the google chrome browser and I haven't quite got the spell check figured out yet)
Hahaha I agree with all but 1 thing... Did you really say "few customization options" when talking about an open source OS? In WinMo everything has to be skinned or covered up, in Android you'll be able to dig deep, rip its heart out and change the things you don't like. Maybe fewer customizations NOW, but I don't plan on upgrading phones every 6 months (although I do anyways).
toche toche very true, I should have said currently few customizations, but you are correct in the future there will be no chance of survival....
Yeah even though Android is still in it's infancy, I have a good feeling that it is going to mature real quick and hopefully be really nice and I really want to stick around for that. I am so torn between the two. I really want GPS NAV because I got lost alot, however I also use my phone a lot outdoors so screen visibility is a concern. Tmobile's 3G band used to be a concern but not so much anymore because they don't allow the use of the Tzones $6 a month plan anymore so I don't really care if I have to stick with EDGE. The glass capacitive touch screen is just so nice. Oh man decisions decisions. Price is not too much of a concern because I have a friend who is willing to sell me a Fuze for practically the same price as the G1.
Then why not get both ;P they are both definitely awesome phones, ulitmatly, I think in the end you will be happy with either or, It just depends ultimately how long your willing to wait..
Hahah, I wish I could keep both, I plan on selling one to use the money to buy a phone for my sister or dad. Dad has been using crappy phones ever since I can remember and I kind of just want to give him something nice to use, even though he will probably beat it up badly.
Hi all,
Currently I am using the Tilt and have been since it came out. I have always had problems with it and the latest is that I can not close the keyboard without losing service. I would really like to upgrade to something nicer even though the Tilt does meet most of my needs. That kinda makes me feel bad for wanting a new phone but I have had this one for a while soo....
Also my sister needs a phone as well. We were looking a lot at the Touch Pros from At&t because we are in a contract with them. But we don't really want to use our upgrades because we don't want to renew our contract at the moment. I am not sure what my family is doing regarding to our phone situation in the future. Also I don't like that the Touch Pro still has the same size screen as the Tilt. But we would upgrade the contract if it is worth it I guess.
I would really like to have a phone with a larger screen. I have a Nokia 770 which is great but I don't carry it all the time. This led me to look at the Nokia 5800...it has a really nice large screen which would be great for web browsing, which is what I do a lot. It will also let me type landscape which I like as well. But I would miss the all the programs from windows mobile. Especially Skyfire.
I also looked at the iphone and I love the screen for it, it is very large and I like how smooth everything is. But the new update doesn't come out for a few months. And by that time, the Touch Pro 2 and Nokia 97 will be coming out. Those are two other options which would require me to wait.
A friend of mine just got the Samsung Omnia and it has a larger screen than the Tilt and runs windows mobile. Is that a good choice for me? It has a larger screen than the Tilt but not as large as the iphone/5800/97/touch pro 2..so it would be an upgrade but not the largest. I just want a screen that would make internet browsing a pleasure and I don't want to buy a phone now and then wish I would have waited a few more months. I just am kinda tired of caring this huge phone around now with its tiny little screen.
Any suggestions on what to do? It looks like the Omnia is still expensive and costs about the same as the 97 and touch pro 2 would if they are picked up by a carrier. Even though the Omnia is older..or should I just wait? Or I could buy the phone now and sell it for some money back if I end up drooling over the phones coming out soon. Basically web browsing and texting are my main concerns. The iphone doesn't do flash like Skyfire does so that rules it out till it can handle it..
Thanks!!
Edit: Not even sure if the Omnia can be used on at&t. Looking into that now.
sounds like you want a touch hd.
Why don't you wait longer
Like me,
I am out of contract for the first time since my first handset in 1993 and have decided to wait. until the summer (if I can) as there will be even more choice.
I've read Touch Pro 2 for Verizon is supposed to be released in May09.
So another Month and half I must wait to get my new phone!!
Not sure if verizon will carry the diamond2, but that phone is also suppose to hit the U.S. the same time!!
Hi guys!
Well, after four FUZE's.... for me, my partner, and two employees, it seems like it's time for an upgrade.
I've a blast with NATF's 4 series ROMS, and after about a year, I'm looking for a new device.
I noticed that the Touch Pro has the same CPU as our trusty Raphs, so I am not thrilled with that.
I find my device rather sluggish. It's not terrible, but... well... you know how it is!
So... Does anyone have any experience with a newer device? Maybe the Touch Pro 2 IS a big improvement (better resolution / tilt keyboard...), but it doesn't appear that way.
Thoughts are most definitely welcome.
I need to order another device, and right now, I just can't think of anything beyond yet another Fuze.
I'd love to hear what you guys have to say! I'm itching for a new device!
Thanks!
Mike
i don't find it that sluggish...
iPhone now? or the Palm Pre?
If your TP is sluggish, are you running the rom that came with the phone?
Mine was, until I discovered the cooked 6.5 roms back in May. I've flashed mine dozens of times. The 2303x builds are LIGHTNING fast, and depending on who you get it from, 99% of them are rock stable.
Pop over to the rom section, read the "flashing guide for Newbies" and then check out some of the great roms. These guys put in a LOT of time making the WM software better, and NO CARRIER BLOATWARE.

Get an iPhone. Duh!
On a serious note, it depends on whether you want to stay on the Windows Mobile platform or not, and whether you still want a physical keyboard or not. If you don't mind giving all touch-screen a try, then consider getting the Touch Pro HD (HTC Blackstone). I've heard great things about it, and it looks absolutely lovely. Otherwise, the only real upgrade path that I can think of is getting the Touch Pro 2 or similar.
It's really hard to upgrade when you're pretty much at the upper limit for smartphones. The Raphael is one of HTC's fastest devices, so keep that in mind.
My friend went from a Sprint Touch Pro (CDMA) to an Iphone 3G S 32GB... and he is a computer science grad student and a tech nerd... and he is blown away by the iphone. Yes Iphone OS is not like WM in functionality, but what the OS lacks, the apps make up for it. The Iphone is very stable, doesn't overheat (his doesn't), and is incredibly snappy. Plus its got a great screen, a built in ipod, etc. Just no insurance! =X And Apple control...
Hi guys!
First of all, allow me to clarify... I would 100% like to stay with a Windows Mobile phone, and second of all, I DEFINITELY need a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
And FYI.. I should have clarified... I am not a newbie! I have been hacking these phones and updating my ROMS for years now.
As I thought I mentioned, I have been flashing NATF's ROMS.
I started out with the CASIO BOSS in 1986, and as of late, I've had around six HTC phones, from the SX-66 to the 8125 to the 8525 to the FUZE, and so forth.
I don't know much about the iPhone 3GS, but I wrote a lengthy review of the 3G, and it just didn't suit my needs.
And like it or not, the FUZE is sluggish on my levels, even with the best ROMS. I don't think it's TERRIBLE, not at all, but let's face it... It's more like the feeling I get working off my modest Tablet PC on battery, than off my 4 monitored desktop's Quad Core Q9450 64Bit CPU, with 8 GB of RAM and 4TB on the hard drive.
There is just that little bit of 2008/2009 sluggishness that is making me a little eager and power hungry for a mind-blowing 2009/2010 device.
So, yeah, all this to say, I am not looking for an iPhone(!)
I am looking for a kick-ass Windows Mobile device that is the "next generation". The 8525 was an excellent jump from the 8125, which was an excellent jump from the SX66.
I am just looking for an equivalent jump, even if it's not made by HTC.
The FUZE/Touch Pro was THE must-have phone for all Hermes users.
I just needed a little guidance for the next one.
I am still looking for your suggestions! Thanks!
The TP2 has the best keyboard I've ever used on a phone. I've had the 8525, Tilt and Touch Pro (and a few others along the way). In fact, if I spend a few more days with it I may be faster with it than a desktop...it's really that good. As for performance, the AT&T version is excepted to come with 6.5 and 6.5 does run a lot better than 6.1 does in terms of speed but it's also a lot smoother overall and easier to use. It's probably 45 days off though if the rumors are right. The screen (a huge WVGA) feels a lot more sensitive. As far as speed, it is the same chipset and I've used both a Touch HD and a TP2 and it does feel faster but I think it's partially due to a mroe sensitive screen and people confuse that with the response time because the taps are easier to register. using TF3D you get your occasional hiccup. For my 2 cents I think when 6.5 comes out TF3D may not be as necessary but it's a personal preference. I hope TF3D 2.5 runs lighter since as a program it is pretty heavy in v2.1. All of this plays into 'speed'. In short though, the TP2 does feel like a pretty big upgrade over the TP(1). Again,t he screen size lets you see so much more that it simply puts it into another class. You can easily one hand emails with the onscreen keyboard and that works great for short responses but for large emails just open the keyboard and you feel like you have a minicomputer.
I've just purchased a TP2 to replace my TP1.
Same familiar WinMo, same massive repoistory of software, bigger screen, better keyboard. And it's not a piece of fruit
Thanks guys!
Very interesting praise for the TP2.
I had no idea the AT&T version was just around the corner. Good news.
bugsy, that is quite the glowing review. I was quite surprised to hear it had the same processor as the TP. I was hoping for a little boost!
Thanks again!
I just ordered one on ebay!
I know it's a little late, but have you considered symbian?
Nokia's got some really cool smart phones. The N97's bad ass!
Acer m900 until the USA compatible Omnia Pro shows up. Everything on the Acer is snappier than the Touch Pro, and probably what the older Wizard was like. Glad to be off the candy toy-phone the HTC made the Touch Pro into. Couldn't even do handwriting, nor using the VGA proper on a screen of that tiny size and the Qualcomm lag...
Both (m900, OmniaPro) still half as fast as the iPhone 3GS, but waiting for the 3GS to gain either cheap unlocked, or Palm Pre to go GSM. Nokia is still in some ditch thinking crap cpus can get them far.
Let us know how it turns out.
Hi guys, so i've had a great run with my HTC Touch Pro, i've been using it for more than a year now but now I feel like it's just too slow and lacking a lot of stuff that i wanted. I've been around the scene long enough, and have tried out several custom roms already, and the only ROM that actually makes this phone run smoothly is the EnergyROM, but even so, it's still slow and laggy. The currenty EnergyRom i'm using is the March 31st 2010 build, so yes i'm very up to date.
I've installed tons of tweaks and apps on it (even pirated ones) and have pushed this phone to its limits, but i feel that it's just not very powerful and i'm losing my interest in it, so i decide to sell it and go for an upgrade.
To be honest, i don't think Windows Mobile is any good at all, so i'm trying not to go for any Windows Mobile device. I'm thinking of going for the Nokia N900 coz it's such a beast, and its multi-tasking is awesome, but the lack of apps for it just makes me think twice about getting it.
On the other hand, i kinda wanna go for an Android phone, but so far there aren't any Android phones with a slide-out keyboard (not that i know of), and i only want phones with a keyboard.
Please don't recommend me an iPhone either, i've owned one and hated it. I do have an iPod Touch and it's jailbroken so all the stuff i can do with an iPhone, i can do it on my iPod Touch, just without the phone capabilities.
Lastly, i'm kinda considering to go for the HTC Touch Pro 2, but then it's not so much of an upgrade coz it's got an older processor than the Touch Pro and just has a bigger screen. Is it actually smooth or fast?? And the battery life just sucks on these devices....I would appreciate more info from someone that has actually upgraded from the Touch Pro to the Touch Pro 2, coz it will be more accurate. I kinda hate the look of it though, it doesn't look as sexy as the Touch Pro...
so ya i dunno, can anyone recommend something?
Depends on what you are going to use your phone for!
But I personally did have an HTC Touch Pro and I did not like it very much! Mostly besouse of the lacking drivers!
My recommendation if you like nokia and Symbian, go for the Samsun Omnia HD i8910!
Why?
Becouse it is the best phone I have ever owned, it is just nothing else that can match this beast performance and hardware wise!
Not to mention the great 8 MP camera with 720p HD recording!
The built quality is just great, I have droped it several times "outside", and there is not a scratch on it!
It has no hardware keyboard, but the capacitive screen makes up for it very good!
Hope it helps!

thanks for your reply. To be honest, i was also interested in the Samsung Omnia 2, i know that the Omnia runs very well, i can't remember exactly but it runs better than the Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2, i think it has a 300% higher performance gain? And maybe it runs or performs faster than the iPhone as well, i can't really remember.
But the thing is, i just don't like phones without any sort of keyboard or keypads.....i LOVE phones with keyboards, i can type super fast on it, but i just hate touch typing using soft keyboards......
that's why when i had my Google Nexus One, i gave it away for free after using it for about a week. Don't get me wrong, i love Google Android and Nexus One is a VERY VERY good phone, but i just don't like the feel of touch typing....i'm just not used to it.
That's why i don't wanna go for the Omnia or Omnia 2, or what you suggested, coz there's no keyboard.
I feel that the Nokia N900 is a good choice coz the multi-tasking is very smooth and fluid, and runs extremely well. I've seen tons of videos of it running tons of applications without lag, up to 35 in fact. And it has a keyboard so that suits me too.
I can't exactly describe it, but i want a phone that is first of all, very smooth and fast in performance. I don't want any sort of lags at all. Touch Pro lags quite a lot, it's slow to be honest, and Touch Pro 2 isn't much of an upgrade either. I want to be able to multi-task very easily, like switch between a game, to an app, to text messaging etc. If you watch the Nokia N900 videos, you'll know what i'm talking about, it's VERY SMOOTH.
But then again, i want the phones to have a rich community and fanbase supporting it, i.e have tons of apps and custom roms or tweaks development for it, just like XDA is for Windows Mobile, that's why i like this site a lot.
Nokia N900 is using the Maemo 5 operating system, and it's still very new so not much is developed for it, so i'm a little worried there. But it is very powerful as it can run OSX 10.1 (i can't remember exactly) and emulate several emulators already, as well as playing Starcraft etc on it, so it's a very powerful device.
But i just need more options and opinions....
oh and i don't really care about cameras or taking videos etc, i just care about the use of applications and multi-tasking, and just overall the software performance etc...
The n900 isn't very smooth at all at least when compared to the nexus one, HD2 or iPhone. It has got the best browsers though with full flash 10.1 support.
Another phone you might want to take into consideration is the Droid.

so performance wise, it's not smooth? That's odd because from what i've seen on the dozens of Youtube videos, it runs REALLY smooth, it's one of the few phones out there that can actually multi-task properly. The iPhone doesn't even have the multi-task functions (unless you jailbreak it and install the multi-task apps), and it'll only be officially getting it when the OS 4.0 comes out for it. But even then, only the newer GEN will be able to support multi-task, so it's not smooth at all because it's a pain in the ass to press the home screen all the time. Like i said, i've owned an iPhone before and jailbroke it myself, and with the tons of tweaks and apps i've installed, it made my life 10x better compared to other people with their un-jailbroken iPhones, but even still it's a pain in the ass to use it. I also have an iPod Touch so i'll just stick with that, so ya i just thinks iPhone sucks as a phone for multi-tasking, it's not smooth at all.
The Droid looks ugly so i never liked it.
...
slide out keyboard how. normal slideout there are multiple variants, depending on gsm/cdma.
most affordable id say is the dream. goes for 100-150 on ebay. i bought one a few days ago, still waiting on the nurse to send it so i cant vouch how good it actually is.

i'm not sure i understood what you meant in the first sentence. What i mean by slide-out keyboard is like the HTC Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Nokia N97, Nokia N900 etc.....that's what slideout keyboard is.
HTC Dream looks ugly and screen too small.
lg eve looks better than the dream, but the screen is only 3" and it's resistive screen. Also it's android 1.5.
hi i want a windows 6 pro phone
i tried to search for al ist of them but didnt really have much luck
it has to be winmo 6 pro not 6.1 and prefferably i would also like to find the phone with win 6 pro with the largest screen
so far i got the tytn2 which was the phone i actually had and want to get back to for software reasons but i dont really want the flip keyboard and if possible a bigger screen
thanks in advance
Maybe a time machine would be helpful....
Given that you asked for help in finding a phone running an OS that was released 5 1/2 years ago and was 'In the wild' for only a year, what did you really expect? Your reply was unnecessary and unwarranted - if you are that desperate for an antique phone then use Google and you will find a list. If you don't know how to use Google then try this link
Don't expect a DEVELOPMENT site to be ready to rush to answer questions on something that is extremely outdated, superseded and was never exactly popular while it was around.
lets keep the name calling to a zero tolerance please.
The Omnia Pro got a big screen and keyboard. I came from the Xperia X1 with a smaller screen and i noticed with the Omnia (wich has the same resolution) that for the Omnias screensize it isnt enough. While it was fine with the smaller Xperia Screen.
lol, why dont you get a windows 7 phone over an windows 6 phone? windows 6 is getting old man.
