Anyone that hasn't done cheesecake yet? - Motorola Atrix 2

Hey guys. I'm just wondering if there's anyone here that's rooted but hasn't done Cheesecake yet, and you're willing to provide me with the contents of 2 files...
If you want to apply the new update coming soon, then you probably would want to undo all file edits made in order to do Project Cheesecake. So I'm probably going to include an edit/unedit feature for Cheesecake in the Megatool...
So, if you're rooted but haven't done Cheesecake, could you please provide me with the following 2 files (use a root browser like ES File Manager, or just use adb):
/system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.service.blur/defaults.xml
/system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.blur.setup/defaults.xml
You can PM me the files or just post them here (you can just copy/paste their contents if you don't feel like uploading stuff).
Thanks.

I'll post them in a sec..
Here ya go!

If you guys want to keep root, DO NOT INSTALL the upcoming OTA. It is 2.3.6 and we have not found a way to root this one. yet. I am sure that once it comes out and lfaber06 and I can get a hold of it, then we might be able to come up with a way to use the updates to everyones advantage, and you wont lose root, if us give us time to work it all out.

I was worried about this, so I did the forever root thing and modified the mount_ext3.sh /system/bin/. I still have root after successfully updating today.
However, I'm assuming that there is no clear way to root AFTER the ota update (if unrooted previously), correct?

I'm guessing one could use fastboot to restore the 2.3.5 system image from the fxz, then root and use clockworkmod to restore a rooted 2.3.6 system image...
(or just flash a rooted system image directly with fastboot?)

No updates here...still @2.3.5

Motorola is rolling out the update to 1000 testers and we'll probably be receiving it in a couple weeks.

2.3.6 is still being tested officially though I think

I see zip archive with 2.3.6 patch by Motorola (today`s released patch). Bootstraper don`t flash there. What tool is needed?

Probably a tool that isn't made yet... just give the devs some time to tear through the update and work it out.

There is a soak test going on now. The update should be available to all in a few weeks.

If you use the forever root stuff then you will keep root with the 2.3.6 update. I still have root after doing 2.3.6

So far everything feels snappier in 2.3.6 and the camera is taking better quality photos. I've only had the update for about 4 hours but so far it is a noticable improvement over 2.3.5

From what I can tell, the auto focus performs MUCH faster with this update. With 2.3.5 you had to wait forever to get it to focus. The end result is much better photos. I don't really know all the technical jargon as to why its better, I just know that the pictures look better with this update!

Updated Hero software (Software – 2.31.651.7) 9/22

Looks like they are releasing an update to our Hero's.....don't get to excited it just bug fixes but better than nothing.

I wonder if there is much of a performance boost for those running stock derived 2.1 ROMs?
At least we know Sprint isn't ignoring us. It'll take a lot for me to go back to stock, though. Do we know if this will kill your root access like the last update did?

Awfully vague description they've provided about today's update. But, not surprising coming from Sprint...
Has HTC posted any elaborations on their website?

anyone able to update yet?
The rom-makers will be able to integrate this into their roms, right? I'll just wait for the updated roms to come out.

If you update you will lose it all. The update (in your case) should come from infiniteFX, especially since he was one of the earlier proponents of building off of the .6 versus .5 build.

anyone get prompted for the update yet? i keep probing but comes up nothing...
If I could get a hold of this I would gladly try it, i can't get it over the air or online. I've installed darchstar's S-OFF hboot and it persisted through 2 runs of the 2.27.651.6 RUU, so not having root wouldn't worry me.
to hell with sprint, im pissed about this update. we didn't need it, what we needed was a sense froyo. what a waste of a good opportunity.
I find it interesting that they give different reasons for the update for each different phone. I ruued back to stock .5 kernel and did the .6 update and will adb pull the update off my hero if I get it. In case anyone gets it the update is stored in /cache. You'll probably already know this but you can download it and not apply it.

You wouldn't...most custom ROM's don't want Verizon OTA updates. This is basically a re-release of the updated radios (402w_1 and 605.7) so if you've already updated your radios that's basically what you'd be getting from VZW. The question is did they actually do anything to the radios or did they just hold them while they got their LTE/eHRPD issues sorted out (I tend to lean on the latter.)
If you wanna keep root, I wouldn't recommend updating. Let the devs release it.

The leak (if we're talking about jcase's leak) included the ROM where the OTA update doesn't (at least it doesn't appear to at 35 MB.) It does appear to be larger than just the leaked radios themselves (25.37 MB) but they updated a few other things so that probably accounts for the additional 10 MB.
We really aren't going to know anything until the devs tackle the update.zip.
I was recommended by jcase that you either can't or should not apply this update if rooted. Don't quote me though. I can't remember exactly what he said.

Do you need root to access the cache folder? Where is it exactly. Can't find it while connected to my computer by USB, or by ES File Explorer.
Could this also incorporate removal of free wifi hotspots? Isn't that ending soon? When I bought my Thunderbolt the rep told me it'd be removed via a software update in May.

Pretty sure that's only for new customers. Existing customers were grandfathered into the free wifi. I might be wrong though. I remember the rep told me something about it too when I got my TB in the mid of April.

Your rep was wrong. Once they figure out how much to charge, the free hotspot will be no more.
Saw on android police a couple of phones that were rooted attempted the update and it didn't go so well. One phone said update failed, another screwed their phone up. I'll wait.
When your rooted, your not supposed to update with OTA's. Wait for the devs to upload it...

lol i cant wait im downloading it now and will add root / busybox to it my self
this shouldn't remove the free hotspot verizon will not have to push a update to remove it they can turn it off on the back end just how the turn it on and off if you call them and add the tethering plan

Software update ??

I did a manual check for software updates today and my phone had found a update. I downloaded it but put it on hold to update. Because I was wondering if this was a good update or potentially harmful sent by carrier as my phone is rooted etc. Did anyone else get a update and if so what was it? Or is there a way to check it out before hand just in case?

You guys can .... SAFELY... check your device to see if you're vulnerable to the hack on this site.
http://www.androiddoes.net/news/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-ussd-hack-test/
Read up on the page.. it says something about if Your Dialer screen coming up and your IMEI is being displayed on it then you have the Vulnerability.. if nothing happens.. or if your dialer comes up with nothing being displayed then you're probably safe.

If you long press the notification you can open app info and disable notifications from it.
It won't fully "disable" the updates but itll at least stop nagging you about them.
Probably a better way to do it but this works for me.
Are you people aware of the stagefright security issues and the recently published exploit? Did you really not know about the worst security flaw in Android affecting about 950 million Android phones?
Check this page out for details:
https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/category/technologies/operating-systems/mobile/android/
Install this upgrade as soon as possible, it will ensure that your phone is protected from the stagefright bugs plaguing Android for months, we'll since discovered a few months ago. It is the most important update your phone has ever received.
LG does not have this update for the European Flex2 yet, lucky you that you get it already.
