Wifi calling on Ravers New ROM - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Does anyone know how to get the Wifi calling App to work on Ravers New ROM.
I installed the Zip that was was posted by Asianboy (sorry if I have your name wrong) and it still does not work.
When I go into the app it says enabling and the switch to activate it is greyed out and cannot select it, then after a few seconds it closes. when I go to setting it only let's me choose Wifi settings and the one time I was able to get into ping network it had invalid listed as address.
The app is very handy in NYC because a lot of building have weak TMOBILE signal but have Wifi available.
Any help would be appreciated.

Give up on it or flash rc3.1 or wait for Raver's next update.
Or do this...
1) Go to /system/build.prop and open using Super Manager or some similar file manager with ROOT permissions.
2) Go to the very BOTTOM of the prop, and add this:
## start GAN-Lite ##
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libsec-ril.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
## end GAN-Lite ##
3) In Super Manager hit menu then Save
4) Reoot into recovery and wipe cache & Dalvik Cache just to be safe
5) Reboot and let phone sit 10 mins to rebuild cache

You might make sure that you actually saved the build.prop. You need to make sure the /system folder is set to r/w.

next update will have this back in the build prop

What I'm wondering is, how many people that are worried about the wi-fi calling realize that without an add-on to their phone plan wi-fi calling still uses minutes?
"Wi-Fi Calling is a free feature for T-Mobile customers with a Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling capable phone. Wi-Fi Calling is an excellent solution for coverage issues in and around the home or wherever cellular coverage is limited. Minutes used while connected to the Wi-Fi network count against available rate plan minutes unless the Free Wi-Fi calling feature is added to the rate plan. With the Free Wi-FI Calling feature, voice minutes are no longer decremented on calls over Wi-Fi."
http://t-mo.co/xRJ1zc

Core
Seems like a lot of people are using it because the cell coverage aroung their house sucks. It is Tmob after all. I'm sure some of them don't realize it uses minutes, but if it's your only option I can see why people want it back.

Tmobile wifi calling doesn't use your minutes anymore but you have to call in and request the change. I read back in August if last year about this change and call tmo..they switched me over and didn't pay extra.

There are a lot of dead zones around NY area and long island. I have unlimited minutes so it does not bother me if it takes from my minutes.
Also service in skyscrapers is hit or miss at times but there is a lot of wifi access.
But the best part is that when traveling out of country just connect to wifi and calling back home just uses my unlimited minutes and no roaming charges.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium

I also have unlimited minutes, but still use wifi calling in my condo because of the weak reception there. I've been staying away from all the new ROMs because I need to have wifi calling.
now, with this recent fix, it looks like I can finally upgrade to ICS!!!

Don't think the fix talked about in this thread is for ICS roms. Check the dates.

LOL good catch haha. glad I decided to check back before doing anything.

You don't have to have the tethering plan? Can't att ttell?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I've never had an issue. On the iPhone (not jailbroken) you have to call AT&T to activate. On this one, you get an information tag above the activate checkbox saying:
A Tethering/Mobile Hotspot plan is required to use this service. Please go to att.com/myWireless or dial 611 if you do not already have this service provisioned.

I've been using that on my Captivate for 7 or 8 months now, AT&T has never billed me. I'm not extravagant in my usage. The highest net data I've used is 4.5GB, but that's for both normal and tethered use. I've never been dinged.
I think if it becomes obvious, torrent or otherwise, then they may try to do something. But as far as I know, there is no way to distinguish the traffic of your phone from that of the connected devices.
My suggestion is try it for a small burst of data, note the time. Reboot your phone after. Then check your account online after a day or two and see whats listed under your data use.
You guys should try a custom apn similar to the captivate and atrix.

Ok... I tried this again after I posted the message. Something seems to have changed in my account. Now I get a "Verifying" message and then a note that says tethering is not available. My guess is that we'll have to replace the IP/Stack to not request verification information from AT&T.
So, sorry, no go yet.

guys MOBILE AP in settings! that's native wifi teather ap stands for access point. there is an apk you need to delete or freaze to do it without the tethering plan. ill get details from captivate section and report back.
I can now confirm that Android-Wifi-Tether works.
I used Tether for Root Users 2.0.8-pre1 Wireless
I agree with Dani897, this will ultimately be a matter of replacing the AT&T Modded Wifi AP with the google stock version.

in titaniumbackp if you are rooted freeze ir uninstall "tetheringmanager0326.apk" should unlock it. you can also delete it from adb, rootexplorer, other root file managers as long as you mount read write in terminal emulator, or you can use terminal emulator.
i have a linux machine and use sshdroid to ssh into the phone. that's another way to do it if you get a windows application that handles ssh.

After GB update

First I would like to thank you guys for sharing and thumbs up to those who are passionate enough to break into every code. First evidence is this actually magnificent tamed beast of our phone. With bloatware and for sale it's full of crap and crippled while your programming skills are making it much more powerful. Two completely different perspectives on this piece of hardware.
Although, after this T959VUVKF2_Deodexed_ROOT update battery flourished, phone runs smoothly, I can fell it and finally I can tweak it the way I want. Thumbs up, congrats on your work.
Have only couple of things I'm noticing:
- wi-fi is really low (on different networks)
- no data connection at all (I'll check with network tech support)
- sometimes I can see a glitch
- when I restart the phone live wallpaper is switched with theme (or this is golauncher problem?)
Can you help me out?
Besides these pair of, I believe, solvable problems it's a mean beast. And I'm getting it a brand new shiny wrap.

Ohhh... You're oh so helpful with that comment!!!! Surprised nobody has "Thanked" your helpful post.
Anyways, I too had this problem with HFS v1.4 and did not find a solution. I did have my APN set to T-Mobile, so I don't believe that was the problem. My issue was also present with WiFi turned on, even with WiFi Calling turned on (Although I don't believe WiFi Calling has anything to do with it).
I never got a chance to debug the issue further as I had a need for the Video Camera to operate properly, and switched back to a GB ROM for the time being.
I'll re-flash my v1.4 of HFS and see if I can check the logs to see if anything is there.

The point of my comment is I just made a thread about the fact that this forum is not even moderated it seems. In my post I claimed that there is about 3 threads with the exact same title, in nature, and with in 5 minutes of me posting it, this thread was created. I was hoping for a mod to see it. There is no solution for it and there has been a bunch of mentioning for it on the other 3 threads, and within the threads them selves! So ya.

Fix for 3G/H bouncing on TmoUS

Since I first got my HTC One S it has been bouncing between 3G and H data connections every 30 seconds, causing interruptions to streaming, web browsing, and being a real pain to try and use. Even after upgrading to the TmoUS 1.84 radio I was still getting these data bounces and connection drops. But I've finally found a fix.
Fire up Root Explorer file browser
Go to /system, mount filesystem read/write
Make a copy of /system/build.prop named build.prop.bak
Open the /system/build.prop file in Root Explorer's text editor
Find and change the lines to
Code:
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
Save and exit. Reboot the phone.
Now when I start actively using the data connection it'll go from 3G to H and stay there without immediately dropping back to 3G and causing a data interruption. If I'm not using data it'll eventually drop back to 3G to save battery.
Anyone else? Does this work?
I'll report back once I root later

Can you take a screenshot of where you see. I can't find it anywhere in my build.prop file. Thanks

For me, the power collapse was already set and the fast dormancy rule seems to make it "stick" in 2g unless the 4g signal is really great...not exactly what I would like. One other thread had you put ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=#, but didn't explain what that # meant...anyone know?

as much as I know, in the file the # stand for comment start. Therefore, it should be the same as 0 in this case.
Yet, for me, it seems add if the 0 works better than the #.

fast dormacy switches between hspa and 3g, not 2g
It worked for me. Stays on H for the moste time but i can still see that the H switches the colors a lot (from Grey to ICS Blue), not sure what that means.

It means you are losing your connection to Google services. Open Gtalk when it is white and you will find your connections greyed out.
Final thought
While this build.prop change helped keep my phone from bouncing between 3G/H all the time I was still getting a lot of data stall (1000ms+ waits) between sending and receiving data.
Turns out T-Mobile didn't update my account with the new IMEI number of this phone. That was causing the data stalls. I contacted support and had them update the IMEI again and now data sends/receives with no delay.

Wifi tethering?

I'm about to root and was wondering which rom allows you to Wifi tether without being charged by tmobile?

rooting a friends phone:
Try Open Garden or WiFi Tethering (root) apps from market.
You've conflated a couple questions here.
"Which ROMs have a built-in feature for WiFi tethering?"
Most, if not all, do.
"Given that T-Mobile generally prohibits tethering, is there a way that I can tether in a way that I am not blocked by T-Mobile?"
Yes, there are several ways that you can make the traffic appear as though it originated on your phone. Most, if not all, of these are applications, use of things like VPN or ssh tunneling, or configuration of your tethered clients. There are several approaches. Search is your friend on finding one that works for you and that you are comfortable with.

Yes that works or just go to settings>wireless and networks>tethering. No need for an app if its built in but if you want one there's plenty to choose from
Wifi tethering used to work no problem on my phone but T-Mobile very recently seems to have changed something where they can detect it - on ICS ROM's - and block it in the browser on your computer. It takes a few link clicks to get the blocked page.
For this - I have to switch to a google related user agent to not have wifi tethering blocked.

that's funny, i'm using aokp (latest team acid build), and i was just using wifi tethering with no problems at all. not to mention that i'm not even supposed to have it since i have the new plan "truly unlimited 4g." the problem i do have though is usb tethering. i gave my team members a log to see if its fixable the other day, but haven't heard anything yet. its no big deal to me unless i wanna use it to tether my pc when our dsl daily cap is reached (which is everyday, but "i" don't use the pc everyday). basically just gave em the log to try and help those who do want/need it.

It was new for me. And only through the browser. Still connects no problem but after several clicks it will pop up a T-Mobile page saying I don't have the tethering package. I am on Raver's ICS Audiophile.
I was tethering just fine on vacation last week, until I got a text message from T-mobile saying they were blocking it, and sure enough it quit working.
I gotta look into the user agent spoofing I guess... at least before my next trip.
(All three of the hotels I was in were changing $5-10 for internet!)
T-Mobile is on a roll!
Didn't actually think they were gonna give something for nothing did ya.
They know that with strategic planning...(lower the plan price and give you more data)....if they give a little....you'll want more,so now they can ask for more, and sleep soundly when they go to bed at night.
So mine got blocked too, took me a couple of hours last night but found a way around it using Bluetooth Open Garden and VPN combination. Back to free tethering....victory over TMobile!....for now at least.

So using just the VPN client still blocked you??
Yeah, but it's possible that was just because I was trying multiple solutions. I'll look at it again tonight and see if I can substitute the Bluetooth with WiFi and keep it working. I think it might be in my proxy settings....it was late and I was happy to just get access.

Or you can change the user agent for your browser and just use wifi tethering as you normally would. It is a pretty simple fix.

I thought with Google Chrome you have to have the Developers Tools open for that to persist. Is there a simple way to make it stick without having to have the developer tools window open? Thanks.
Edit: Ok, so tried the APN switch on Google chrome last night and it did work, while the developers tools window is open. Only issue was that some of the sites that my wife uses that have display issues on mobile web now have the same issue on the PC...I'm not talking about page layout, but specific links and options not displaying....the reason she still needs to use the PC in the first place. I can definitely recommend the APN fix to people being blocked by Tmobile as a quick simple fix as previously stated in this thread. It took a little longer to set up, but I'm sticking with the VPN for full functionality.
Regarding the wifi use with VPN; I haven't been able to get it to work yet, so sticking with the Bluetooth for now.
