Hey everybody ive been thinkn bout switchn to the nexus s 4g, i currently have the thunderbolt for verizon. i know i have to switch to sprint and thats not a problem. the questions i have is should i take the plunge? hows sprints coverage? or should i just wait for the next nexus to come out? and can you all share your pros and cons of your device? thank you all in advance.
I dont have Sprint nor a Nexus s 4g, but I do have a Nexus s on T-Mobile. This is the best phone I've ever owned ... I haven't had any problems with it. Plus stock Android is amazing. I know HTC sense UI has it's pros and its cons but I take stock Android anyday.

Since I've never used a Thunderbolt, you'll have to take the following with a grain of salt. First, Verizon's coverage is much better than Sprint's coverage. Sprint's 'nationwide' coverage has next to no native coverage in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nevada. Other areas are more sparse than Verizon as well. However, Sprint has free roaming with 3G speeds (assuming Verizon has 3G in that area). You won't get Sprint services like Sprint Navigation, TV, etc. while roaming (at least I don't think you do).
I had the nexus s 4g for about a month, but ultimately returned it. The only reason I returned it was that I did not have a signal at my workplace. My previous phones have all had pretty poor signal at my work, but the nexus was a just a little worse (enough that it wouldn't receive the majority of calls/text, whereas my older phones would get most of them). The coverage is bad there since it's basically a concrete block and I had no problems anywhere else with the nexus s. The minor things were creaky battery cover (probably just on mine and could have been fixed with a new cover) and no led notification light.
The things I liked were good battery life (even with poor signal at my work), standard google with no sprint branding at all, native hotspot feature works like google intended it to work, the size was really nice, amoled screen looked very good, and the phone was very fast in everything I did. It was also very easy to root and get superuser on (other than needing to move some of the tools in android sdk from 'platform-tools' to 'tools').
They're making a radio update. Should've waited.

The only thing you might miss is Verizons network. Me and mikeyinid both switched from the Thunderbolt and I can personally say it was the best decision I have made.
O ok. How much better of a phone is it than the TB? I do worry bout the coverage i travel a lot throughout MI and other states as well i drive a truck.

Look up the sprint map about coverage in the other hand I'll go with the nexus man stock android blows out of the water in speed , I had an evo (thunderbolt brother , practicly with a few updates ) LTE is great tho (where it works )
Ok so I had and Evo with CM7 stable but still some how had bugs , on nexus s I don't have any bugs and I don't even miss 720 p video recording , and I'm happy that I'm getting upsates straight from google , the evo got gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 is out and I bet that's probably the last update for evo so not gtalk video chat ... btw I'm in las vegas and I switch from verizon to sprint cheaper service and in my already better service most of the time

Like mbh87 said, we both came to the NS4G from the Bolt, and while I do miss the awesome service, the Nexus makes it worth it. I have no regrets switching. If your running CM on your bolt then the switch is a no brainer Not to mention your gonna save money with sprint. Don't let them talk you into a big plan. The 69 + 10 dollar for wimax is unlimited mobile to mobile on any network... Very good deal.

Not to mention Sprint gives discount for almost everything. Check with your employer, bank, etc. I get 10% for being a credit union member, not much but its better than nothing and it got me free activation.

If it really improves the signal, I'll just buy it again . I didn't have to pay a restocking fee, so I'm not out anything other than my time spent going to the Sprint store. I'll wait until the Evo 3D and/or the update gets released to make up my mind.

hey, i was just wondering, do you have a link to that info? i haven't heard of anything about it, but would be awesome if they did.
to the op, verizon's always gonna have better general coverage than sprint, but if your area has good sprint coverage then it shouldnt really be a problem. also sprint is always gonna be generally cheaper than verizon (not to mention they'll give you a $125 bill credit if you port your verizon number over to the nexus before the end of this month).
As far as the nexus s 4g goes, man its smooth like butter the combination of hardware/software has given me almost zero lag in the UI. but your best bet is to just go test it out at the store.
and the nexus 3, shoot thats a tough call. i was gonna wait for it and not get the ns4g on contract, but im such a big fan of the nexus that im just gonna buy the nexus 3 outright when it comes out and sell this one or possibly keep both (i love it that much).
Thanks for all the info guys! and im goin to be gettn my nexus s 4g SOON as i get rid of this bolt, yous swayed me with all the good reviews! then i took the advice of goin to play with it hands on and man its crazy smooth and fast and thats even without bn rooted and oc'd, man i can only imagine. thank you all for bn cool enuff to help a brotha out, i shall be hangn out with yous very soon.
Don't buy the Evo3d btw.
Wait for the nexus 3.
The main advantages the nexus s has over the thunderbolt is the cpu and gpu, and screen of course.

Well considering sprint has the largest voice coverage in the US, switching to Sprint isn't a bad way to go if you are looking for good voice coverage.
Verizon has better 3G coverage though, and better 4G coverage.
Overall, my only issue with the nexus s 4g (vs. my old evo) is the wifi antenna is not as good. While the bars jump around much more than the evo, I get similar performance/coverage.
If fast data speeds are very important to you, verizon is probably a better bet. If you just need data connection to grab emails, use google navigation, etc, sprint works great.
My job decided to get me a company phone and start paying the bill, but only problem is, they use sprint. So, I had them get me the new evo 3d. I've always been a fan of t mobile and their network, but hey, I'm saving 100a month. Well, got my new phone setup, and must say, sprint is a lot slower than t mobile is, and the phone is kind of a let down. The 3d is cool, but I can't stand sense at all. Plus quadrant scores are lower.
I know we have been getting a lot of I hate my g2x, but I miss mine already. Plus, not a fan of a locked boot loader. Just wanted to share some g2x love.

DUDE!!! walk into your boss' office punch him in the face, demand they switch over to tmobile then tell em EXACTLY what your avi means and pose just like it!!!!
Hahaha. man, I wish I could. Only other network they use is att, but they suck too. sprint network speeds blow - plus 4g coverage is terrible. Ah, I hate sense. It's terrible. The phone is snappy, and the 3d pictures and movies is cool, but will probably get old. The g2x seems to handle video's better. Man, the grass is never greener. You guys should be happy you have a beast for a phone. If I had a choice, I'd be back in a heart beat. ...but, I basically got a100 a month raise, and a free phone, but I have to pay cancellation charges.

I wish that was the case, but they pay the entire bill, unlimited everything, and for some reason, they use sprint. I can't stand Sprint download speeds. They are pitiful. Avg for me so far has been .5-2 mb/s, while my tmobile was about 3-7mb/s. That's quite the drastic drop.

I was with T-Mobile for 8 years up until I switched to Sprint last fall as I got a job with them and free service. Hard, T-Mobile was always awesome with data and their hspa + upgrade in denver was amazing.I had nexus one at the time, which wasn't an hspa + device but I still pulled 5mbps on 70ping in many places. On Sprint, I couldn't even stream Pandora at my gym! Since then, I moved but issues were still there, from service disruptions to data drops, to speeds capping at 300kbps and 4g being pretty damn awful and a battery kill. Just now couldn't take it anymore and dropped to buy g2x with the online sale lol.

I can't wait for the Hercules. Its pretty much a Infuse with a dual core CPU. Nobody knows for sure which dual core it will be but I've seen speculation that it will be a Qualcomm. Then again, everyone speculated everyone's SGSII to look the same since we saw cases on a website but we all know that speculation was wrong since ATT'S is a slider. Hell, the Hercules might not eveb have a 4.5 inch screen at this point since everyone was totally wrong on saying ATT, Verizon and Sprints would be the same form factor as the European version.

I'm telling you, their 4g service is a joke. I can never find it, and if I do, I can never get above 2.5 mb. There 3g is a joke, and I have to use wifi. I absolutely hate their service, and their customer service sucks too. Only reason I'll stay with them, I'm getting a full free ride. I might see if I can eventually switch to att, since the big wigs at my company use them for their iphones. I'd never get an iphone, of course. Guys, you are lucky to have your download speeds. I called their customer service, and told them I was getting pour speeds compared to t mobile, and she asked me, what's the benefit of faster download speeds anyway! Seriously! I hung up.

Lol yea I know how it goes, its crazy down there and my buddy who lives in Georgia is on sprint as well, he's been having same issues as me for the past few months. During off hours I could get 2mbps down some places, while still not get any data downtown Denver.... 4g is always one bar Max, unless I am at my store, and it literally drops signal like no other, no point in even wasting my battery on keeping my wimax antenna on... even if I do get 2mbps its still way slow compared to T-Mobile, ping of 300 really does make it seem even slower as well.
I went to the gym tonight and got my buddy there to download speed test on his g2, was during peak hours. He got 6mbps down while I couldn't even open Facebook lol.

Was your 4g on? Her mytouch 3g doesn't utilize the spectrum T-Mobile puts out the same way that your sensation would. And even if you're in a bad 4g area or non existent area they make you pay the 4g cost regardless. It happens on Sprint as well.

More details? What did they put you on? I work for T-Mobile and unless you had the really old 25 dollar android data and they added the old(but newer then the old 25) 30 dollar 5 gig internet, we don't have any 5 dollar add on for 4G. What they should have done was upgraded your plan to the new stuff where you have a choice of the $10 200mb $20 2gig or $30 5gig. The older rate plans are only capable of having the $30 web added in store. If you call care though you can get the $20 preferred plan, stores can't add that.
What I would say is instead of complaining on here about pay $5 extra, call care and make sure you are on the best plan for you. Reps at store level tend to not even pitch the idea of changing rate plans to customers and just tack on whatever feature Watson tells us to. You're probably paying more then you should be due to your own and your reps negligence. It's funny because as a rep I make much more money by saving my customers money with putting them on new plans, I don't know why so few reps just tack on the stuff and send the customer on their way. Call care, I am SURE they can get you a better deal.
Ok. I will do that. Thanks

Let me know what they had you on and switch you too. You'd be surprised what they may have now. Its funny people think that their unlimited loyalty plans and what not are so good but the new plans are much better. Reps tend to just agree with the people when they think they have a good plan because convincing them otherwise tends to be to troublesome. Or you just get get a lazy rep, sadly nine times out of ten when it comes to upgrades the customer has to tell the rep what they want. Where as with new activation its all about the rep trying to sell the customer. T-Mobile changed the commission on upgrades to try and fix this issue, and its worked on me. I make much more money now but my coworkers complain, its funny lol.

Hey i currently have an evo 3d with sprint but am seriously considering leaving sprint. Sprint just informed everyone of a minor change in there contracts which is allowing everyone to leave with no ETF. But thats not why i wanna leave. Sprints 4g service is horrible and ive been dropping calls left and right. If you live in baltimore how is your service? Do you get good 4g coverage not just outside but inside buildings also?

Sprint is a joke and a crappy provider. I was with them 8months. Never again. I had them before that for 2 years and thought they had changed their ways but to my surprise it still remains crap!
Only good thing about them is if you call sprint threatening to leave they offer you an upgrade lol. But the 4g is a joke and im fed up. So far is the ballistic sg the toughest case available for the sensation? Has anyone played with a sidekick bc if we leave sprint i think my girl is gonna get that one

I'm Baltimore. Maryland that is, not Ohio and my service is pretty good. I'm on wifi most of the time but I've never been outside with less than 3 bars of 4G. Inside of my house is a different story as I have around two bars most of the time. If I switch to edge instead of 4G I can get full bars. I'd say it is definitely pretty good in my area.
Thanks for the heads up, I got my Mom out of her contract without an ETF, now she's on an unlimited family plan with me. I got her a Sensation today.

She was under contract and they had a change in their terms of service, I called and said I was her (with her permission), told them I don't agree with the change and want to opt out. I also said I won't pay an ETF because of their change in policy, I was put on hold and when the rep came back she said that I was correct, no ETF, offered an unlimited plan for 2 lines $129 + taxes, I said no thank you. She then said I could go to my new carrier, give them my acct. # and have them do the cancellation and keep my number.
If they try to bill her an ETF I will call and say no, you changed your terms and I opted out, done deal.

I currently Have a ATT HTC One X back ordered on Amazon. While waiting it got me thinking maybe I should just grab the international version instead. Im so confused on what to do. Paying full price is not really a problem because it will just save my upgrade. Also I dont have LTE in my area yet, and even when it did come I think I would be fine with 4-6 mbs that HSPA provides. The main reason I want the INT is because of the extra storage space. Ive heard the CPUs are about the same (maybe S4 even being a little quicker). Hows the battery life on both? Is there any other factors or differences I am over looking. Any input from some one with both phones would be great! Thanks.
PeterHTC has done an excellent writeup on this topic, and tons of subsequent discussion by other members on that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609878
Do you already have AT&T service? Your Sprint logo avator is confusing.
Thanks for the link, reading it now. Ya I am on sprint now until I get my One X. Was about to call and cancel my service the day before it was going to ship but then it got back ordered. Glad I didn't yet lol. Either way I am switching soon, either going to get INT version or just bite the $50 bullet and go get one from AT&T or Best Buy.
My 2 cents.
I had the Intl One X on release and it was very buggy.
To the point that I sold it in a week and stayed on my iPhone until the ATT version came out.
The ATT version is rock sold over the Intl version, but I'm really missing the extra storage.
If there were new software updates on the Intl version that fixed all the issues I might swap back, yes I do have LTE were I live and yes its super fast, but what I do on my phone doesn't really require a 20 mb download. I'd like to store ripped videos for travel and not rely so much on streaming which you have to do on the ATT One X.

Reason I ask, do you know for a fact that you will have decent HSPA+ speed on AT&T where you need it? My house is supposed to be in a 4G HSPA+ coverage zone. But I was getting dismal data speeds often around 0.2 to 0.5 Mbps, and maybe 1 Mbps at best. Now on LTE, I get 27 Mbps in the same location.
At my work, I was usually getting from 3 to 5 Mbps on HSPA+. Not bad, and just fine for most things. But the HSPA+ at my house were near useless sometimes.
Why wouldn't you just get Evo LTE? It has a bigger battery and a sd card slot!

Everybody says they're fine with hspa+ until they actually experience LTE speeds. When I went back home too Houston and was consistently getting over 44Mbps down, I was literally blown away. It's that much of a difference.

My international phone arrived today. I think I'm returning it. Staying with a US model and its warranty seems safer.
Ya sprint sucks man. Horrible data speeds. Also IMO Evo 4glte is super ugly.

Interesting, care to explain the reasons? I had an opportunity to trade 1 for 1 with a international version so I'm curious.

Just the security of knowing I can get a warranty replacement from att if I need it.
For gaming: International
For everything else: AT&T HOX

I was thinking the EVO 4G LTE for those same reasons, but apparently the battery life is just OK. It proves yet again that hardware specs mean nothing if Carriers screw up the firmware. What other explanation could there be for poor battery life, other than CDMA uses alot more battery than GSM?
I just switched from sprint to the att one x and its wayyyyyyy better!!! And the speeds are way better! I was happy to get 6 down and today I got an lte signal (live in cleveland not official) and I got 50 down outside and 35 inside my house which is better then the .035 from sprint lol

You said it CDMA drains battery faster thats why they prob put the bigger battery in there. No sd card and only 16 GB of internal (actually even less lol) will suck but ill get used to it. The pros of the phone outways the cons. Pretty sure Im just gonna stick with the Att HOX.
