[Q] [TF101] Is there a way to get back to US stock? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI - looked in the forums but have not seen anything obvious.
I am on Revolution HD but looking for a way to get back to stock - which in Canada is the US firmware (not the WW). I currently have the WW firmware with some build.prop hacks to make it thinks its US (not perfect but more apps are available in the app store).
Apologies if this is buried in the forms, but if someone could point me in the direction of re-loading the US based firmware in a how-to it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can look in to here or here (if you can use nvflash)

No unfortunately - don't have the right SBK version

You might see if recover installer has a "stock" option. Or now that CWM recognizes the TF see if it will allow you to reflash to stock.

Yes. Use the first one gls9 mentioned. I used that method a few weeks ago and it worked flawlessly, I'm stock and rooted with OTA rootkeeper.

Sweet Shady - so you followed that and are back to the US firmware (not WW - I thought Canada was on WW but went into Staples on the weekend and checked out one of the display TFs LOL .)
Shady - so did you download the US. 21 from the ASUS site when you were doing This?

I think you can flash all the parts through the staging partition. You'll have to get a US stock rom, pull it apart and repack the parts that you need to replace- probably the EBT/bootlaoder, SOS/recovery, and LNX/boot.img.
Google and search... it's out there.

Use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947 I got everything from there.
Also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427838 to root the stock ROM then go to the market and download OTA rootkeeper (it's free!) to make a backup of your root. You can then upgrade to ICS, if it ever comes, without a problem.

Awesome - thanks. I noticed in that first thread there's a link at the end to a different re-packed file - so may use that.
What ROM were you coming from Shady?
Be nice to get back to stock - a little uneasy with the TF101 though myself - don't know it was as my T959D phone )

I was coming from KRAKD. Pretty good ROM I must say. I recently flashed CWM again to install a custom Kernel and now my Transformer flies (with the addition of ADW Launcher Pro)

using the Samsung SAMSUNG Kies I was able to go from ICS back to the OEM ROM. This software detected that I had a different version, and asked if I wanted to install the latest Samsung version. So of course I did. I tried again later after testing another ICS and I tried to do the same, and it did not give me that option. I think I could still of did it suing the emergency recover option in Kies, but you have to get a number from Tech support first I think.

Don't think that will work for an Asus product

UK 3.1 update help

ive searched loads of threads for this answer but evrything is all over the place and a bit confusing so im just looking for a simple solution, can i get the uk update at all, i updated to the us leak and would like to have the uk update now since its available but dont know how to get it, i am unrooted
thanks in advance
I think you might have to wait until its released on the uk asus page to manually flash it, I could be wrong though!
ah thats cool then mate, i will wait until i can grab it, thanks for your help
or you can
- get the uk V8.2.3.13 rom from asus support
- extract the zip, rename the extracted zip file to EP101_SDUPDATE.ZIP to root of external sd card
- then power off
- vol down+power on
- vol up to start flashing the uk V8.2.3.13 rom
now you back in blighty the notification should be available to update to 3.1 honeycomb. that's how i did it.
This maybe the only option avaialbe, because I think that official method as described on asus support will only allow update with same geography. (empahsis on 'I think')
good luck!
Nice one mate will give that a try

tried that but its just coming up the android man holding an exlamation mark
sorry, I not at home now, so don't have the names of the files from asus support site to compare for you.
I think I remember the official extracted file was had a '.zip.zip' ending. make sure to it's just .zip - use a file manager on the tablet
This is the same procedure as I used to get onto the leaked us rom onto my uk tab. Expecting we are now dowgrading to official UK 3.0 from asus support
the original and possibly clearer instruction are here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/asus-eeepad-transformer/88744-transformer-3-1-update-here.html
Its the same way I got the leaked one on too but can't seem to get it to work on for this

where others had luck downgrading. Also Specifically post #16, the guy mentions possibly there are zips within zips... which may help you.
thanks mate, tried all that but its still giving me the same android guy with exclamation mark, will just have to keep the us opne for the time being i think
just checking, is the ww version uk or is there a uk version, i cant see a uk one so i got the ww, migth be me been a complete idiot lol
got it working, i was being stupid and renaming it to EP101_SDUPDATE.ZIP instead of just renaming the zipto EP101_SDUPDATE.
thanks for all your help, this forum rocks !
Lolz, glad u got sorted!

I did the same thing - downgraded as described above from the leaked US 3.1 rom to the 3.01 WW rom from the Asus website. After that I did a factory reset to get it clean. No force closes aftdr that.
I now am back on 3.01 WW build but when I check for a system update I am told there is not one available. Do Asus stagger the updates? I have seen other posts saying they can't see an update.

no. I downgraded on monday, in anticipation of getting the update on tues/weds. I only acutally upgraded this morning when i clocked the 'tracker' thread that some uk peeps were getting theirs via manual check.
are you really back to 3.0?... check interweb settings is alright?... remove any roms on int/ext sd cards?.... did the manual check?... not sure what else to try really....
I justice twenty back to the us one will just leave it at that for now

I got a replacement TF today as the screen on the last one refused to turn on after leaving it off for a while. Completely dead even though the alarm kept going off at 5am(annoying).
Anywho I got the replacement and I have had no notifications about an update. I have just manually updated it to the .13 one and still nothing OTA.
I'm in the UK too. Hope they upload it to their severs soon so I can just do it by sd card again.

Then use the WW version. As Roach indicated, there is not much difference.
You could just use Clemsyn's 3A ROM. Not much has been done to it. It's still oxed.
Just be patient. (Not directed towards you but to the OP)
As I said. WW version is not working on any other version of the transformer besides WW ones.

Will root be achieved on ICS?

Hi!
For those of us with SBK v2...should we just upgrade to last OTA?
As in those working on achieving root will focus on ICS
What do you think?
If root is important I wouldn't upgrade until you know for certain ICS can be rooted. You'll simply lose your options if it's a problem.
its the bootloader that needs cracking, not the OS.

This is a question, not a statement but wouldn't keeping to a rootable rom with SBK2 still make sense? I could use Razorclaw with my tab until 8.6.5.21 but had to downgrade (a struggle) in order to reroot after update.
This is and has always been the solution for a device so difficult to root (you don't just oem unlock from fastboot!!!!).
Never flash anything that itself doesn't contain :
- Insecure kernel
- Superuser.apk
- Superuser binary
- Busybox
- FOTAKILL.apk
Which is essentially a custom rom even if otherwise stock.
For ICS - wait for the download to be intercepted from cache (OTA) or available on ASUS website in full and then let someone do the rooting of the ROM - just has someone like daoist has for TF.

ICS is just as simple to root as any other Android OS as far as the ROM goes. New kernels ranging 3.08 through 3.16 at present have the same structure for ro.secure=0 for making them insecure - they are the only real different bit. The ROMs vary little to GB or froyo in their build up.
I've rooted and insecured a couple of Nexus S ROMs on the Nexus S forum just to help people who don't want the pain of going back to stock, reinstalling CWM and root just to be able to use ICS (along with deodex, zipalign and small systemui.apk tweaks).

Use the 8.6.6.19 update bought to light by pjfriend get rooted ASAP I suppose. Do it whilst the tools are available to do it and then protect it by going to custom ROM.

Hello,
First, DO NOT Apply ASUS's ICS Upgrade when it comes out, let the development community work on it first.
Almost EVERY Android Device has been rooted, even when it is unrootable. It just takes time
Don't rely on the devs to help you when you already have the tools to help yourself!
For a while now people have been used to applying the OTA update and then relying on the dev community to root it again and reinstall CWM. This is pants-on-head retarded, guys. Why root it and install CWM in the first place if you're not going to use it? You have the powah!
First, get yourself to 8.6.5.19 (or 8.6.6.19, depending on your model)
Root it with Razorclaw.
Install Clockworkmod.
NEVER EVER APPLY AN OTA UPDATE FROM NOW ON
When ASUS releases a new update, someone will make a CWM version of it (that someone lately has been me ). All you have to do is wait for it to be posted, then flash it via clockworkmod. Bam! You get the update and you get to keep root.
I think what happens is people get antsy when a new update comes out and go all willy nilly installing stuff just to have it lol. So people dont go all willy nilly just wait a day or 2!

I need the dlpkgfile for your device in order to make a CWM package that will work. Lots of people are interested in the WW variant, so I've been able to do those. There's a few other variants I know of, like DE and TW. I don't think they make a UK; you're probably on the WW.

You can "upgrade" to 8.6.6.19 worldwide if you have a supported tablet.
If with the upgrade to ICS there is no format of the system partition involved, then it should be possible with OTA Rootkeeper to keep root after upgrade.

[Q] Benefits of rooting?

Although I am not new to the rooting process; i have rooted, flashed, and unrooted by Droid X. However this asus eee pad transformer is a more valuable device that I am more hesitant to root. This past weekend I helped rooted by friend's Transformer but I am not likely to follow this rooting process. I am not sure of the benefits other than overclocking and rom flashing. I may want to root the Transformer but I am not sure if I can root it and still be able to get the ICS update pushed out by Asus. Can you guys explain if I can get this update when I have a rom flashed or I will have to set it back to stock and unroot it. Also can you guys explain more benefits of rooting this device.
Thanks,
Ryan
root only will not stop OTA update. It's when you install custom ROM and/or CWM recovery is when OTA update will fail.
Just ask your self if you're happy with it root or non root. Personal prefernces.

Is there an easy way to get rid of the CWM recovery and have it back to normal just in time for the update. I have used the rootkit v7 on my friends Transformer and I think it put CWM recovery already for you. So in other words, is their a easy way to get back to normal stock root or stock without root???
I think if your rooted and the update comes out you will only have to wait a few hours maybe a day at most for one of the devs to release a stock Ics ROM with root and superuser and all you would have to do is flash it.
At least that's how I think it goes based off past experience with Evo 4g and Evo 3D

I'm also considering rooting my transformer but have second thoughts like you about tablet costing more if something goes wrong compared to a phone.... But I think rooting now before the Ics update comes it'll be better for us due to the fact that when Ics update comes out it has the potential to block any way of rooting the transformer and like I said in last post rooting now then flashing a rooted version of Ics will benefit us by getting the update and not loosing root.
Now I just need to figure out how to root my new transformer I'm on the latest update 8.6.5.21-20111216 and find a stocked rooted ROM

[Q] Just purchased Transformer, ICS available?

Very general basic question. Is ICS available for the Transformer as an OTA? I just purchased a refurbished one for a great price. I heard it was released a few months ago, and then pulled? I saw the firmware available on Asus's website. It it available yet for this tablet?
Yes ICS is available. You can check in Settings>About tablet>System update for update or you can try to manually update it by downloading the firmware from Asus. Extract the zip from within the zip and rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip. Boot into recovery and see if it will install.

We should mention that ics on the transformer has some issues at the moment with random reboots and what not. So, if you need a stable rom, I would suggest sticking with honeycomb for a few weeks.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
If you like to read a little bit, you better root your device and flash an ics custom rom on it. AOKP or CM9 based.
Your device wil be much faster and uses less battery juice. For example, the Frozen rom. Its standard overclocked to 1.2Mhz and no issues like the stock Asus roms.
