My understanding is that if you have the stock ROM it will allow you to download the update. If you are rooted you can download it, but not install it because you will need the stock recovery in order to do so.
Personally, I think I can deal with being non-rooted for a little bit in order to try out the new stuff. I already nandroid'd back to the stock ROM, but still rooted ... going to put the stock recovery and such back on and see if anything shows up over the weekend
To a device with a custom recovery i believe

It should work with stock image and recovery.
I just put my stock image of 2.1 and stoc recovery and straight away got the OTA for 2.1 update1, so I believe 2.2 OTA will come too
Try this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
^^ yep, did that. It started the update1 OTA immediately .... so far so good. Now it's down to the waiting game.
Is this only for nexus one?

OK, total noob question
Since this is my first smartphone and I'm new to rooting/flashing ROMS/themes, I have a question about this: do I accept this OTA and then flash my current configuration afterward? Or should I ignore it, and if I do will VZW keep nagging me about it?
I'm running Humble 5.0 RC2, imoseyon 4 kernel, HumbleComb theme, and have backups from both the latest CWM and Titanium.
TIA for any advice.

You have to go back to stock using odin, use the the pit file and download the stock rom.
Once your back to stock you can update the phone OTA.
I went back to ED1 and got the update to EE4, but no EP4 yet

Personally I have a similar setup to yours and will not worry about the OTA. Custom roms built on it will be available soon enough, and what you have now will have mostly all the same fixes. And if you want radios I'm sure an odin flashable one will be along soon.
Is it EP4D or EP4P? If it's EP4P, why did Samsung release old code on their open source page?

Yeah Im gonna wait too. No reason to go through the hassle of back to stock to maybe receive and update when soon enough someone will have create something else.
Cool, thanks

You think they stop working on trying to improve things and fix bugs just because a build was submitted for OTA testing? If that were the case, we'd never get the OTA.

Hi there,
Since my phone is a I9020A on Fido I rooted and currently running CM9 ICS rom, should I accept any OTA update or do I have to manually install it through CWM?
No, it can screw up your device if you do it like that. Just do it manually like everyone is doing.

Only difference between odex and deodex is that deodex is for theming. Odex boots faster.... And if the radio you're using right bow is working properly you don't need to flash another radio

Ok so I flashed 2.3.6 back stock for OTA rom from the thread in this section and now for some odd reason I cant access my CWM. Whenever I try to it shows some box and triangle thing flashing
tried to reflash CWM using Rom Manager and kept getting an error.
Doh!
To the handful of people getting OTA update on i9020a, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get either:
a) name of ZIP file
b) URL of ZIP file
c) copy ZIP file and upload (should be in /cache folder I think)
(preferably all three)
Once you install it the file is deleted and you lost your chance, so please if you downloaded update don't apply until you get at least one of the above...but preferably all three, you would be a hero to all of us in this thread with i9020a wanting update. This is AT&T/Rogers model.

The OP states he is running CM9 Kangs... He isn't getting the update since he is not on stock -- I think he is just asking how to actually take the OTA when it comes.
I am on Fido too in Canada and I can assure you, I have not received the OTA for my I9020A yet... Once it is available for my I9020A, I will post all the information here (if the I9020A official OTA is not already posted, that is...)

I downloaded Voodoo OTARootKeeper from the android market. The description of the program claims it should hide your root during the ota and according to the apps latest reviews, it works on this ics upgrade. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it works and hopefully the super user app from the market will be updated by then to handle ics.

Hi!
For those of us with SBK v2...should we just upgrade to last OTA?
As in those working on achieving root will focus on ICS
What do you think?
If root is important I wouldn't upgrade until you know for certain ICS can be rooted. You'll simply lose your options if it's a problem.
its the bootloader that needs cracking, not the OS.

This is a question, not a statement but wouldn't keeping to a rootable rom with SBK2 still make sense? I could use Razorclaw with my tab until 8.6.5.21 but had to downgrade (a struggle) in order to reroot after update.
This is and has always been the solution for a device so difficult to root (you don't just oem unlock from fastboot!!!!).
Never flash anything that itself doesn't contain :
- Insecure kernel
- Superuser.apk
- Superuser binary
- Busybox
- FOTAKILL.apk
Which is essentially a custom rom even if otherwise stock.
For ICS - wait for the download to be intercepted from cache (OTA) or available on ASUS website in full and then let someone do the rooting of the ROM - just has someone like daoist has for TF.

ICS is just as simple to root as any other Android OS as far as the ROM goes. New kernels ranging 3.08 through 3.16 at present have the same structure for ro.secure=0 for making them insecure - they are the only real different bit. The ROMs vary little to GB or froyo in their build up.
I've rooted and insecured a couple of Nexus S ROMs on the Nexus S forum just to help people who don't want the pain of going back to stock, reinstalling CWM and root just to be able to use ICS (along with deodex, zipalign and small systemui.apk tweaks).

Hello,
First, DO NOT Apply ASUS's ICS Upgrade when it comes out, let the development community work on it first.
Almost EVERY Android Device has been rooted, even when it is unrootable. It just takes time
Don't rely on the devs to help you when you already have the tools to help yourself!
For a while now people have been used to applying the OTA update and then relying on the dev community to root it again and reinstall CWM. This is pants-on-head retarded, guys. Why root it and install CWM in the first place if you're not going to use it? You have the powah!
First, get yourself to 8.6.5.19 (or 8.6.6.19, depending on your model)
Root it with Razorclaw.
Install Clockworkmod.
NEVER EVER APPLY AN OTA UPDATE FROM NOW ON
When ASUS releases a new update, someone will make a CWM version of it (that someone lately has been me ). All you have to do is wait for it to be posted, then flash it via clockworkmod. Bam! You get the update and you get to keep root.
I think what happens is people get antsy when a new update comes out and go all willy nilly installing stuff just to have it lol. So people dont go all willy nilly just wait a day or 2!

I need the dlpkgfile for your device in order to make a CWM package that will work. Lots of people are interested in the WW variant, so I've been able to do those. There's a few other variants I know of, like DE and TW. I don't think they make a UK; you're probably on the WW.

You can "upgrade" to 8.6.6.19 worldwide if you have a supported tablet.
If with the upgrade to ICS there is no format of the system partition involved, then it should be possible with OTA Rootkeeper to keep root after upgrade.
HI - looked in the forums but have not seen anything obvious.
I am on Revolution HD but looking for a way to get back to stock - which in Canada is the US firmware (not the WW). I currently have the WW firmware with some build.prop hacks to make it thinks its US (not perfect but more apps are available in the app store).
Apologies if this is buried in the forms, but if someone could point me in the direction of re-loading the US based firmware in a how-to it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I think you can flash all the parts through the staging partition. You'll have to get a US stock rom, pull it apart and repack the parts that you need to replace- probably the EBT/bootlaoder, SOS/recovery, and LNX/boot.img.
Google and search... it's out there.

Also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427838 to root the stock ROM then go to the market and download OTA rootkeeper (it's free!) to make a backup of your root. You can then upgrade to ICS, if it ever comes, without a problem.

Awesome - thanks. I noticed in that first thread there's a link at the end to a different re-packed file - so may use that.
What ROM were you coming from Shady?
Be nice to get back to stock - a little uneasy with the TF101 though myself - don't know it was as my T959D phone )

I was coming from KRAKD. Pretty good ROM I must say. I recently flashed CWM again to install a custom Kernel and now my Transformer flies (with the addition of ADW Launcher Pro)
using the Samsung SAMSUNG Kies I was able to go from ICS back to the OEM ROM. This software detected that I had a different version, and asked if I wanted to install the latest Samsung version. So of course I did. I tried again later after testing another ICS and I tried to do the same, and it did not give me that option. I think I could still of did it suing the emergency recover option in Kies, but you have to get a number from Tech support first I think.
Don't think that will work for an Asus product
