[Q] volume up doesn't work - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason the volume up button doesn't work, is this software caused or hardware caused? I just bought this tablet today. It's already rooted but I can't get clockworkmod to work.
But basically what should I do?
thanks.

It doesn't work just within CWM recovery or it doesn't work period?

Doesn't work in general.

Not knowing if it was working before you rooted ect
it's hard to say if it's hardware or software.
I would revert back to stock and see what it does if not just return it for a new one.

I'm a noob when it comes to android, but in the recovery screen where it says wipe data and android, when I select something with the volume up should it immediatley go to it? Cause it's not doing anything and going to cold boot, so I think it might not be working...just my luck.

Do you have CWM recovery or you at the screen where it ask to cold boot or delete data?
How did you install CWM recovery?

I don't even remember the first attempt, but the second time I tried using some one click apk thing I installed on the device.
Just did a system restore and now unrooting it, going to do another system restore after that and if it doesn't work I'm just going to return it..

With nvflash if your phone gets caught in a bootloop you will be able to boot into recovery and save it. If you just have clockwork intalled through RM your SOL.

NVFlash method truely replaces your old Recovery
Rom Manager method simply runs update.zip to simulate a custom recovery. The issue with the G2x is there is no true "stock recovery". Instead it simply reformats your phone. What this means, basically, is that the only way to get to this custom recovery is through the OS.
This doesn't mean that the Rom Manager method won't improve over time. I actually suspect it will. However, for now NVFlash is the only way to go.

I actually got to what seemed like a stock recovery... it had blue font and said something like android recovery...
I got into it by deleting my rom manager cwm and then told it to boot into recovery
Not sure if it means anything tho... maybe it would make it easier to flash a custom recovery without nvflash?? don't think so tho.... I haven't use android since the mytouch 3g and we used to flash through fastboot right on the phone...looks like we can't do that anymore?

Sorry, didn't entirely mean to say that there is no stock recovery. It's just that there's no hardware way (that anyone knows of) to access it. Then, since you can't access the stock recovery through hardware, you can't access the custom recovery through hardware either....at least I wasn't able to. Now that I have NVFlash, I can't really test any further either
So how would you reboot into recovery after using the NVflash method?

nvflashing clockword mod remaps vol. down and power to cwm recovery
This is my first Android phone and while I am familiar with CWR thru my rooted Nook Color, this is the first I have heard of NVFlash Recovery. Is there a tutorial or (noob) guide?
Thanks in advance.

That same function gets you in to the factory recovery as well, when not rooted, its the first thing I tried when I got my G2x.. holding power and vol. down until the LG screen pops up then the little android with the box comes up.. from there i believe i either pushed vol. up or down.. I'm betting it was down.. and you get in to factory recovery. The only thing is when I exited the factory recovery, the phone did a factory reset on reboot.

[Q] Broken Recovery Mode?

Hey guys,
I flashed one of the official ASUS update.zips a few weeks ago and I think it botched up my CWM.
I can manually boot into CWM using the volume keys method, but all power menus don't seem to work? - i.e. they don't boot CWM, but continue to ROM boot up.
Any fixes for this?
Any solutions on OS X would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
what rom are you using or what program are you using to put into recovery?
If your using a rom i.e. Kang, then just reflash the rom, you dont have to data wipe or anything.

[HELP] Why is EZ Recovery not working

Ok so I'm stock rooted and I want to install CWM 6.0.1.0, so I downloaded Ez Recovery from the market and also the apk from the original post here on XDA. But it will not install CWM. I tried all the options. Recovery, Hybrid, and Stock, but when I flash them and it says it was installed successfully I press reboot it takes me to stock recovery every time.
Whats the problem???
Is it possible someone could provide me with a link to the recovery img file or tell me how to fix this problem?
Thanks
This may be obvious, but are you selecting reboot recovery from ez app menu?
Yes, when I flash my recovery I press reboot
Have you run the superuser app initially? I had similar behavior in which it said it flashed but still had stock recovery. The initial run of superuser got things going and when I ran ez recovery again it asked for root permissions and worked as expected...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I saw you post this in beans thread but I didn't have a fix but then I remembered how I fixed this on my phone. Uninstall ez recovery and reinstall from market. There was a problem with the version numbers or something and this fixed that problem for me

Wondering if any of you guys have had the problem where it flashes the recovery successfully and you can reboot in CWM / TWRP just fine. Then once you get back into the system and try reboot recovery again, it goes straight to the stock recovery.
Is this normal? Do I have to flash the recover everytime?
There is something you need to do in recovery to make it persist, some option you need to select. I'm still not clear on what it is, because its been a long time since I used CWM. I hope someone will chime in with exactly what needs to be done to make it stick so I can be clear on it as well.

When you select reboot, it will tell you that it is reverting back to stock recovery unless you fix it. You scroll down and select yes and you are good to go.

This happened to me as well when I first rooted. I had to reboot a few times until the proper recovery booted. Now that I have flashed a Rom, CWM recovery boots properly every time.

I typed this with my thumbs.

Can't get root working.

Usually am pretty good at this stuff but just got this device and can't figure out what I'm missing.
The drivers seem to be working okay, the bootloader says its unlocked, I am on stock JB which I am going to the right forums for.. Just can't get into recovery. I use power and down volume and then up volume and I just get the error Android. Let me know if anyone has suggestions or what I am missing please.
First off you should have posted this in the Q&A section, not Development.
Anyway, have you flashed any recovery? Or have you just unlocked the device?
Look here for installing recovery
Hope that helps :fingers-crossed:
What recovery did you install? Do you have a custom recovery? The native recovery expects its files in a specific directory and will throw an error ("dead Andy") if there are none there. Can you get the 70 to connect by USB, and detected?
In order to flash anything, you must install a custom recovery. You cannot use the stock recovery as it will only flash stock roms. You can either use ClockworkMod or TWRP. To flash it onto your tf700 you must use fastboot which is not hard if you find a detailed guide.

Are you actually unlocked? You are still on the stock recovery if you see a dead android.
Try this if you are unlocked

Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 not booting

So I have this Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, GT-P3100 with Jellybeans 4.1.2. I recently rooted it using Kingroot. It worked fine until I tried installing a custom kernel. I installed unofficial miui v5.4 using CVM Recovery v6.0.7 I think. I clicked install from sd card and installed the .zip file. It said installed after a few mind. I then clicked reboot device now. It started booting and showed a new boot image, which I thought was normal. But the image wasn't fitting in the screen. I waited full 30 mins and it stayed there, a light coming and going as a logo. Nothing happened, so I pressed the key combination of power button + volume up button for 5 seconds and it started again, showing the new symbol. It has not booted after an hour and half.
Please help, I don't know what to do.
I admit I am a little new in this. But I saw a website to tomsguide.com and followed the steps with pictures.

So I think you flashed a incompatible Rom on your tab 2, well the only way to get it back booting is to try restoring it back to stock firmware, just Google how to restore tab 2 to stock, and follow the video on the channel droid cheats but yeah if you have got pretty fast internet and don't want to spend entire life downloading that 1GB file go the general discussion of the tab 2 7.0 forum here and scroll down you will find a thread named fast download link stock firmware I think it should be something like that and download the one made for p3100, want more help comment below

hello sir,
i know how to solve your problem.
the problem you are facing is a boot loop .i.e you get stuck in the boot logo
and your device never goes further.
the common reason is not clearing dalvik cache before flashing a new rom in recovery.
so now solve this problem follow these steps.
1. charge your device fully and go to recovery.
2. do the following-
do a factory data reset.
clear cache and go to advanced and clear dalvik cache.
now flash the kernel and rom and the gapps(if you have).
now reboot and see you will go through the boot logo .
HURRAY YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY FLASHED YOUR NEW ROM
NOTE: all the steps above are only to practice in CWM Recovery.
if you still have any problems let mw know.
thanks
