Not that I found. The other method, though not as simple, was not complicated either. And I'm still pretty much new to Android.

Just install the pre-rooted 2.3.6, don't wipe or factory reset... works fine.

Maybe I missed it but, where is an unroot for this phone? I'm just asking... my superoneclick doesn't have it.

Look around, its closer than u think...
Are you on GB rom? Super One Click doesn't work with this device runing GB rom. To unroot it you would need to format the system partition and flash back to stock rom.

You cannot superoneclick on the GB update. I got tired of waiting for superoneclick to be updated so I went ahead and NV flashed CWM, then flashed a pre-rooted OTA GB rom. All is good now. I suggest you do the same. Plenty of guides here, and its way easier than what I thought.
Sweet..lol the question never had ginger in it. All it implied was..."is there an unroot method besides the update doing it". If I'm gonna get a replacement, I need unroot. But I have decided to keep it. The freezing up isn't that bad.
Oh, I'm nvflashed back to froyo. Gingerbread update didn't impress me.

I was running Gummy Charged a few weeks ago and got the update and bricked my phone. With some wonderful help here I was able to get back to stock; however I'm really missing the root for tethering. I have been reading about the new things going on but I'm unsure if they are abel with GB? Anyone put a "package" together for GB to get root acess?
When have we NOT been able to root? Flash imoseyon's kernel.

I have a G2x with the stock 2.3 rom installed. I would like to root the phone but maintain my app data. I can't use titanium backup because I don't have root. I tried installed the rooted stock 2.3 rom but lost all app data.
Any suggestions?
If all you're doing is rooting you shouldn't lose any data. You only lose data when actually flashing a ROM, not by rooting your current one.

I knew about the zip, but will superoneclick still not work on the g2x? I know it used to not work with gb, but since they updated it I know it can do some phones on gb.
I rooted a friends sgs2 stock 2.3.5 using superoneclick.

Use the nvflash method and back everything up using clokwordmod's backup option. No root required. You can also save your apps using something like App Backup and Restore from the Android Market:

I flashed stock 2.3.6 via Odin and then downloaded the newest OneClickRoot which I believe is 2.2 and ran it and I got root. I proceeded to remove all the bloatware afterwards. Just thought I'd give people a heads up that this method definitely works.
