Have both a Samsung 32gb class10 and a made in China 16gb class10 and they both are very fast, would even guess that the Chinese one is a bit faster.

hehe that didnt really answer my question >.<

Well, the reason may due to your handset, I used to had a motor atrix with class 4 and I can get 5 mb/s via usb . But for my optimus 3d only maximum to 4mb/s even with class 10. It got to be your hardware or firmware restricting it.

actually using the phone to do the format would be better as it automatically chooses the best cluster size for use with android system. well it all depends on the contains you going to throw in too, to determine the best cluster size.

Micro SDHC Card

I'm updating the puny 2Gb placeholder in my Atrix 2. I finally settled on a little known name , Dane Elec, and ordered it from New Egg. Cost me $55 shipped and it's a class 10 card. They are the company making the new Duracell flash units. When I get it installed I'll come back and do a review if anyone is interested

Looking forward to your follow up.
I just ordered up a 32 gig class 10 as well. I was digging through all the data that seems to be split between the onboard and the sdhc card. I'm curious what happens with the various apps when you replace the card.

I'm pretty sure that if you mount both SD cards to your computer and copy everything from old to new, that the system has no problem carrying on with new card with more space. I have done this several times with Inspire 4G, did it once with Atrix 2 going from the stock 8 to a 16GB that I had, and will be doing it again soon with new 32GB.

So do I need to put the new card in and let the phone format it first or format it on the PC?
Let the phone format it, and then transfer the information to it. Good luck with the class 10 micro sd cards. People on the forum to include I are having issues with them. Supposedly going down to a class 4 and 6 will remove the problems the phone is having.
Taking pictures or recording video, the items will show up at as non readable. Everytime I take a pic the first pic is always bad, all of the others show up just fine. Gets annoying but i've managed to overcome it. Also when that happens all of the pictures you took after take a year to show up in the picture viewer. I have to reboot the device just to take a look at the ones I just shot.

Having a class 10 card in my phone, I concur. I have yet to get a class 4 or 6 card to replace it yet but I have heard that doing so will remedy the r/o issues the phone has. Gonna stop by Frys today and pick one up, maybe even a 16gb.

shoot, I already placed an order for a class 10, I just assumed it was higher quality, like the way cpu's are binned for speed.
Any recommendation on a specific card that works w/o trouble ?
I've been using a 16G sandisk class 6 card without any problems, glad I seen this thread because I was just about to order some class 10 cards. Guess I'll b holding off on that now.

i am using a sandisk 16 gb class 4 card that was really cheap on newegg with free shipping. i am not sure if the deal is still going on. there is a link below:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171486
I copied what I posted in another thread.
My experience has been just the opposite. I originally purchased a 16gb class 4 PNY card and I had the aforementioned read only issues. I then exchanged it for a 16gb class 10 PNY and all has been good since. and that has been about 3 weeks ago. Go figure?
New Question:
Could it be that different manufactures arrive at various class standards using different architecture? Maybe the same class of card from one manufacturer can act differently then another manufacturer? I think ultimately that it shouldn't matter which card we use if the software/hardware is correct, we should be able to put any "reasonable" card we like in the phone and it should work. Hopefully Moto will issue an update so the phones wont be so picky. By the way I love my Atrix 2 and have no desire to get anything else.

Its not that simple. It depends on the hardware.....my HD camcorder for example, it specifically states that it needs at least a class 4 card, otherwise the info cant be written to the card as fast as it needs to be and will error out. Im sure something similar is at play here. But with Motorola not specifying what class card its compatible with it becomes a trial by error. So far the most common thing among the many people who have had this problem is the class 10 card.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Yes I agree I have been playing with HD camcorders for a few years and I understand that the medium whether it is a card or a disc or tape needs to be able to keep up with data stream being sent to it. Im sure something similar is at play here as well but a faster card shouldn't give negative results? You are right that a camcorder has a "minimum" rating but although a faster card will not necessarily give any better performance it certainly shouldn't be worse or cause issues like it appears to on these phones.

Logical, but its not always like that. Example....in car audio, the head unit sends signal via rca's to an external amplifier, the higher voltage the signal, the more efficient the amp will be and the better it will sound. So logic will tell you if you can get an 8v signal to the amp then it should sound lovely since most signals are 1-2volts....well, if ur amp can only handle up to 6v signal then feeding it an 8v signal will cause the amp to go into protect mode and not work right.

I use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.1.8.0, based on recommendations on other xdadevelopers forums such as Inspire 4G. Supposedly does a more thorough format than the stock Windows 7 utility (certainly takes longer). Using this, I have had zero problem using Class 6 and Class 10 cards.

I had my hopes up for this to work... but sadly it does not. Using a PNY 16 gb class 10 card.
It's a bust on the Dane Elec class 10 card. It doesn't say what class it is at New Egg but has a prominent 10 in a circle. Turns out that is for the warranty. It's a class 2 card, goes back today. After reading all this I may step down to a class 4 or 6.
NewEgg has a class 4 32gb card for $41 shipped ordered that based on what I've read

This is actually a really good question
acording to this it should be able to use it up until 32 GB
and for bigger ones it need to use exFAT.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SDXC#SDXC
Linux systems that support SDHC cards also support SDXC cards, as long as the card contains a compatible file system. A proprietary driver is available for the exFAT file system.

There shouldn't be any problem with 64gb if it works on other phones. I doubt that it's hardware related.
Almost all the phones have the same specification about maximum sd size, and it's 32gb. The 64gb is new and the specification on the phones was written when the 64gb wasn't available.

Because 32GB is not enough.I have 46 games on mine sgs 2, only this games need over 30GB free. Were I could put rest stuff like movies, films,mp3, maps for navigation etc.? Some free space for my own video, taken pictures.now I have got 80GB and only 6GB free memory. That the reason that I change lg optimus 3d on sgs 2. 40 GB is not enought

Then the boys 3d optimus quietly supports 64gb?
no no no!!
look here!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038039
And this guy "3waygeek" blogged this further:
Well, I just got the SanDisk 64GB microSDXC. As I predicted, the SGS2 couldn't read the exFAT filesystem the card is formatted with. However, the SGS2 did format it as FAT32, and seems to accept it as a valid device.
I'm now copying my old 32GB card to the new 64GB, using standard USB microSDHC card readers on a Windows box. But before I did that, I ran SDTools on the microSDXC. Read speed 18 MB/s, write speed 6.6 MB/s; see the attached snapshot. Those numbers suggest to me that the device is the bottleneck, not the card.
So, aside from the lack of exFAT support, it looks like microSDXC will work. it works! just let ur phone RE-Format it to fat-32
hmm
I saw a post saying that 64gb had worked properly on LG-SU760, but I don't have any idea what sdxc is actually working well on Op3d...
It might depend on sd company.
see here it is available for Rs. 3455/- only!!!

hi everyone,

[Q] Maximum SD card size?

What's the maximum SD card size for the external slot on the SGS II LTE? I'm reading 32GB but I could have sworn I read somewhere that someone was using 64GB. Can anyone confirm/deny?
32gb is the max
Well, some members of the forums have gotten a 64GB card to work.
Hes right 32 Gb is the max i dont even know if 64 GB cards exist

the skyrocket is not compatible with SDXC which is the technology for any SD over 32gb. I didnt try it myself, but samsung does not create drivers for SDXC in the current line of phone. So maybe some supergeek somewhere did create a driver for his phone, but it will not work with yours
EDIT: i have found video proof that a 64gb card works on the GS2 non LTE but it comes with its fair share of problem including camera app not being able to save pictures to it, very slow population of library in music app and a bunch of small annoyances
That's what I suspected - I thought I'd seen something, sounds like it's not worth the effort with the 64GB cards.
Cheers!

Best way to expand storage?

Never bought a Nexus before because of the lack of a micro SD card port. I was hoping some of the most recent rumors were true about the Nexus 9 having on but no joy. I will be buyingone though because I have got to tryTegra K1 64 bit and lollipop. Anyone ever try to expand storage on the Nexus 7 2 gen? What did you use? What about a WiFi external hard drive? I am open to any and all solutions.
I use a Corsair Flash Voyager Go usb stick with 64GB storage. It burst writes pretty good, so files under 60MB get written on it pretty much in an instant.
Larger files make the drive heat up pretty fast, and after about 30 minutes the write speed is down to 25MB/s.
If you use Win, the next part won't interest you: I formatted the drive into ext4, so I can store files >4GB on it. It performs better than NTFS or exFAT (exFAT is a pain in the foot!) but a little worse than FAT32 for whatever reason.
There are other comparable products out there, like the one from TeamGroup (M132, IIRC). The differences are marginal - I bought the cheapest.
That's what I am going to use otg with my 64gb Samsung class 10 micro SD card

No, don't be concerned. It does not matter. USB2 can, with some controllers, reach over 25MB/s, which is more than you'll have with your micro sd card.
But I would not spend more than 2 bucks on it. Aliexpress has some better offers.
They don't live for long. I used this setup for quite a while, but after 4 months tops they died.
I would go for the Corsair Flash Voyager Go. Better r/w speeds, better support, etc.
Cheers!

what is this all about, not bein able to move apps to sd! it seems only certain and few phones allow it now rather than the developers. this is my second phone to have 6.0, the first one i returned because it was only 8 gb internal (which is really only 3,5 after system mem) and i recently have gotten into games, games that mind you can take upwards of almost three gb, i returned it for a lg phoenix 2 16gb only to find out that there is NO option to move to sd, its really a punh in the crotch to buy a phone with 16gb only to have 9 useable gb, after all the pointless crap they force us to have that cant be moved,,,"well root your phone then" everybody says, oh, well, i happen to be one of the few luckies that have alwasys purchased a phone that a rooting method has never been found, and no i refuse to spend 600 bucks on a "popular" phone,, that always has a way to be rooted just to one up my friends, and im too broke this is my fifth unrootable phone, And i cant move my apps? wtf!!!! ive never been an apple man, but this has me knocking on their door..i have researched and tried everything, watched videos and read novels of it being done, some say to format the sd as internal, i say impossible, guess what, no option for that either, only format, no internal. how in the F*** do move my apps, or even better how the crap do i downgrade back to lollipop??????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
I haven't explored with the Shield Tablet (16G is enough for my apps currently, so my SD card is portable storage). But on my Moto G3, Marshmallow removed the ability to move apps to SD unless you've integrated it as adopted (i.e., internal) storage. If the SD is mounted as portable storage apps can't be moved to the card. Again, not positive if this is also the case for the Shield, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Dude, stop complaining and you really need to write clearly so other people can read your post.
Conclusion: there is a way to bypass and use SD card as internal storage, but it is not a good idea.
Here is why:
I have a LG K371, and a G.Skill 64GB microSD with speed class 10. The microSD is not as good as Sandisk's speed class 10, as it read/write at 45/15 MB/s vs Sandisk 80/20 MB/s.
The original 16GB internal storage read/write at about 100/70 MB/s (I don't remember the exact number).
After using ADB command tool, I did successfully bypass and be able to use microSD as internal storage. The process is a bit annoying, because I kept seeing error message and sometimes the phone show "SD card is corrupted". I repeat this process multiple times and did some test with differing configuration.
If I use all the space as internal storage, the speed is about 15/7 MB/s
If I use half the space (so I can use the card on computer), the speed is 13/5 Mb/s
If I use 16GB of space as internal storage, the speed is on 9/3 MB/s.
The speed difference is caused by the special file partition format used for adoptable storage, which can't be access by windows computer.
You see, even with a 64GB speed 10 SD card, the speed drops to 15/7 MB/s. It is as slow as USB 2.0 flash drive.
Not to mention if you use a 16GB SD card, the speed is only 9/3 MB/s, which is intolerably slow.
The real problem is that the phone doesn't recognize the speed difference between the SD card and the internal memory, it still thought the phone is running at 70MB/s. So when it installs apps to the memory or start a game (was supposed to be in the internal memory, but now in the SD card), it took way more time (do the math yourself, 70/7=10). Are you willing to wait for 2 minutes for a game to start, which originally took 5 sec? How about the endless lagging in the app, every thing takes 2 sec to response?
Use Sandisk may get a different speed result, but the user experience in this case will be similar.
So don't force to use SD card as internal storage if the phone's manufacture doesn't approve doing so.
Hope my story help you in some way.

I have nst k1, my tests (samsung pro 64gb) are here:

I don't use adopted storage - I'm waiting for Nougat.
Ps.
Link2sd+ can move obbs to sdcard(external).
@dzpcool
Yours sd card(G.skill) is to slow. I'm using adopted storage in moto e 2nd and it's great idea.

Have you done speed test on the moto e 2 using adopted storage? In you google drive, I saw 2 test pic 81/62 and 47/28 MB/s, can you tell me which sd card and configuration did you use?

Look into my post before(here) and names of screens.
Moto e 2nd 28/21 the same card - adopted(mm&nougat, custom roms).
Tests are somewhere in moto thread.

My bad, didn't check post 8
Whether 47/28 or 28/21 are good, enough for daily use.
I was able to get 20 write with NTFS format. The problem is my LG Phoenix 2 (K371) is just terrible at handling adoptable storage. Considering it is less than half the price than MOTO E 2 (you can even get it $30 with deal), maybe the manufacture doesn't want or pay any effort to support adoptable storage. However, low-end budget phone happen to the one most need extra storage space, cause some of them even only have 8G ROM.
LG is different story, it seem oppose adoptable storage. Even high-end model like G4 doesn't support it in the stock rom.

Lg g2 - you can flash custom rom and use faster sd card.
Lg, Samsung, Sony, Asus, Xiaomi, Huawei...blocked adopted storage.
They want you to buy a newer model with much memory.

Does Moto support it in the stock rom? If not, it seems Google is the only left among the named brand.
A budge phone brand BLU supports it. I guess some brands don't do it because they want you to buy more expensive model with bigger storage, while some want to keep the price competitive.
I don't know all brands.
Lenovo Moto, Htc, Nvidia - have adopted storage support with stock. @dzpcool

Thanks for your reply.
Lenovo bought Moto (Their new phone is great, but the market share is not so great), and HTC is a dying company. I feel little to almost no hope seeing adopted storage on major brand phones : (
