[Q] Is it possible to force switch to EDGE? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

One thing that I liked about my N1 with CM7 was that I could easily switch between Edge and 3G to help save battery life. I haven't found such functionality with the Skyrocket and I have tried 3 different ROMs and none of them have been able to do it either. The best they seem to do is turn off LTE, which doesn't do much because I don't have LTE service in my area. Could it just be that I'm using the wrong ROM, or is this technically impossible, or is it that until we get the AOSP developers won't know how to get to such functionality?

Here is the thread you need. Flash the Rogers radio, then go into network selection and pick manual. It'll sit for a few but afterwards you'll be able to switch from gsm/auto to gsm only..or whatever options are in there.

[Q] Anyone else having this issue?

I'm trying to upgrade to gingerbread from froyo and whenever I do I lose my 3g. HSPDA and HUPDA both goto 0 and they are 1 before I flash. I can't set them to 1 either. I do the *#301279# trick and it doesn't work.
I setup an APN and I got the settings from my cell provider and it still doesn't work. I look under Network Providers and all I see is 1 provider and its not mine. Normally there are at least 2 or 3 there.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Forgot to mention, I've got a Galaxy S, I've tried putting gingerbread on my phone, then when that didn't work I reverted it back to Froyo. The 3G came back, I tried a couple different roms that I could find and the same thing happens to each one.
I want to try a custom rom like Darky's but from the looks of it, you need to be on gingerbread first before you can get it on there.

Using logic, You are from Canada so you must either have a Bell 9000m or Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) I'm betting its the 4G which isn't going to work with quite a lot of roms, See if they have a Galaxy S 4G thread on here and go there as they will be better able to help you

Sounds like you most likely are using the wrong radio. When switching to Gingerbread you must also switch to a Gingerbread compatible radio in order to obtain a Voice/Data connection. You might have to use ODIN to flash a full image.

Do custom ROMs allow for 42mbps?

Do custom ROMs limit the HSPA speed of our phone? Is there some network check where if you're not running on T-Mobile's ROM, you won't be able to access the full speed HSPA+ 42mbps network?
rom won't affect that
have seen a lot of posts with folks getting plus 20mb in the 42mb areas--wish I lived in one--
Do you think the buil.prop settings have anything to do with it?
I remember getting 15mbps a few months back from my home, now the fastest I can get is around 5 :/
sounds like something changed, what do you get in other areas compared to before
some roms don't do as well as others with some folks. but, I never had a rom make that kind of difference.
don't know about buildprop--I doubt it
try the last rom you were on with good speeds. also, maybe the latest radio
I haven't been able to get high speeds like that anywhere really.
What I've noticed is that since switching from the stock ROM, my indicator switches frequently from "H" to "3G". It'll switch back and fourth every 5-10 seconds when I'm using data. This happens with CM9 and CM10 and the modified Sense ROM that I'm running now. I live in an area with excellent 4G coverage and I don't understand why this switching is occurring now when it wasn't back on the stock ROM (and I know the stock ROM had separate indicators for 4G/H and 3G). It doesn't make any sense to me.
the switching is common for a lot of people and is addressed on several threads
if your hboot is under .13 you can flash a newer radio
gotta call it a nite
I don't know if the following setting remains after rooting and installing a custom ROM but check it out and test the different settings:
Settings>Mobile network>Network mode>WCDMA only versus GSM/WCDMA auto
Are you in an HSPA+42 area? T-Mobile only has that in a few markets..

I like my phone switching to edge when HSPA signal is weak because then I still get service and it doesn't kill my battery life. I don't think this would matter because 3G and 4G are on the same bands :/ Which is why I don't understand why it switches....

I am in the Salt Lake City area, which does have HSPA+42
I'll see what I can do with radio flashing. If I get something to work I'll post a guide on it.
I did some tweaks on my phone and saw positive results, I posted a guide for others here.

[Q] Galaxy S3 R530U 3G connectivity problem

Ok so im a noob to US cellular, but had a At&t S3 and many other phones and have done alot of rooting, custom roms, etc. installing, and never had this happen, I guess i'm trying to say the development for this phone isn't as high as the other bigger carriers. But I had multiple issues with several of the us cell roms for the s3 and last night i tried to put cm10 stable from the official website and afterwards now my phone only gets 4G lte, and the data works but when i go to send a message or call someone it doesn't work! When i go to mobile networks in more settings and switch to cdma only, i get the circle with the line through it or my phone roams non stop! As i know the 3G antenna or what not is the voice and texting part and the other antenna is the 4G lte one, so i think when i flashed either the cm10 or the k747 kernel one or the other screwed up that part of my phone? Has this happened to anyone else and if so could u find a solution? And yes i called us cell and they went through everything and said it must be hardware related, so idk if i have any other option but to send it in or do a warranty exchange. Please let me know if any of you have had this happen, I miss my phone and have never had this happen Thanks! Let me know if you need more info also!

[Q] Disable 4G (LTE) and General Radio Help

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else but I did a bunch of searching and couldn't find anything that explained what I'm looking for. Just got the Skyrocket and I'm trying to disable the LTE. 4G is awesome but I'd like to conserve my battery as much as possible and I don't need the super awesome speeds when the phone is just sitting my pocket while I'm at work. I've looked at a few different ROMs, both ICS and JB, and with the stock radio (UCLI3) I can't tick the check box for 'Use 2G Networks Only'. It checks then unchecks and then grays out. I tried a few different radios too, UCLL3, UCLK4, UXLF3, and a radio for Bell for the I757 that I suddenly can't find the info for. All of them work and give me 4G just none of them work with my ROMs to let me use just EDGE.
So far the ROMs I've tried is the new Dirty Unicorn JB ROM, AOKP ICS, and CM9.1 which I believe is also ICS. What am I missing? The last phone I used I didn't have to mess with any radios so this is all new to me. In short, what radio do I need to make this work with the ROMs I've already tried or can I get a recommendation on a ROM/Radio setup that accomplishes this? I'd prefer a ROM that is AOSP since I'm not really a fan of TouchWiz (It just doesn't feel right for some reason).
Did you try going in settings to mobile network click on mobile network mode and change the setting to gsm only? That should give you up to hspa and hspa+ for data speeds. As for using just EDGE I can't help you with that...sorry.

I believe the UXLF3 Radio is RAT Unlocked and that's the one I'm using now with Cyanogenmod 9.1 and I managed to get it to use 2G only. Not sure why it wasn't working with AOKP which is also ICS. I'm not sure if there are any RAT Unlocked radios for Jellybean yet but now that I've got it working I'm afraid to try any other ROMs lol
All this radio stuff is still making cross eyed though. I feel like someone needs to do a really good write up explaining it because it's not easy to wrap your head around if you've never had to mess with it.

Always roaming

Hi, since I got my Galaxy s3, I'm always roaming. I didn't have to stray too far away from the store before the roaming started to happen. It seems that if I do not have 3g, or 4g I'm constantly roaming. I have read on here that there is a way to fix the always roaming issue, but I didn't know if it applied to flashing a bad rom and then getting the always on roaming message. Mine has been like this since day 1 when I bought the phone at completely stock settings. I recently flashed CleanROM, and still have the always on roaming messages.
Should I attempt to use this application, or would I risk doing something terrible to the phone?
what prl do you have? any just to make sure what carrier?
Different prl's can cause it to roam. You may can pull battery and sim and sdcard, wait 30 sec or so reinstall any boot. Then check prl again, see if it changes.
See the Galaxy sIII shine via SynergyRom
What is PRL? I do have Verizon. .. I also have a nationwide plan, so I know for certain I'm not being charged for roaming, it just shows that I am all the time.
"HOME-ONLY roam setting on touch wiz roms like on CM based roms
New to posting on here, so be patient... I have been flashing roms however since the Motorola droid 1 and love the mods we can do to our phones. Now I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, flashed to CleanRom, newest version as of this date. I love the battery life on this Rom but work near the Mexican border where it easily switches to roaming. My question is that on CM roms I'm able to go into roaming settings and select either Automatic (default) or Home Only which will prevent anything but a Verizon signal. Works awesome. I don't know why this is unique to CM or AOSP roms and not touch wiz. Is there a way we can have that added or even an app that will do that very thing? Sometimes I have to just backup my rom and flash CM just to use my phone without roaming on to the Mexican cell tower. It's very frustrating. Thanks for any advice.
If this needs to be in its own thread, could someone let me know and help me out with that?
Thanks, Scott.
