[Kernel][EL30][BML/MTD] ShadowKernel v2.0+ / v3.0+ / VoodooColor, OC/UV (1/25/12) - Epic 4G Android Development

Huge thanks to the many talented developers out there including (in no particular order) but not limited to:
chris41g, mkasick, Rodderik, nubecoder, earthbound, toadlife, thomasskull666, DRockstar, supercurio, Ezekeel, SenseiSimple, noobnl, xcaliburninhand, k0nane
See the feature table below the download section. I've maintained the same features in all the kernels (except where noted), so just download the corresponding kernel for your EL30 ROM and flash in CWM.
There seems to be some confusion around. Just because you are on the EL30 modem, does NOT mean you are on an EL30 ROM.
***This is the thread for the EL30 Shadow Kernels. If you need the EI22, CM7, or MIUI kernels, see this thread.***
**To help with bug posts, please state which kernel version and ROM you are running. Thank you.**

They'll be coming soon enough. I just didn't want them waiting on a kernel.

Made the mistake today thinking i could run the el30 hot spot hack just cause i had the modem. Had to pit back to ec05 to fix that mess. They cant come fast enough for me.

You need to stick with the other kernel thread for CM7 kernels. Link is provided above the downloads in the OP.

You're welcome. Caught me before I even had a chance to post it.
I have added an ODIN Tar to the OP. Works for anyone, but it's mainly for users on completely stock EL30, such as after the OTA update, or after using toadlife's ODIN packages. It will give you the Rooted EL30 ShadowKernel and CWM 5.0.2.7 all in one step.
This should be obvious, but DO NOT use if you are on an MTD ROM.

Wow using this on sleeper rom el30 mtd and its running really well... staying nice and cool... running the n64oid at 1400mhz and can't even get it up past 102 degrees! Awesome job... this is the first of the shadow kernel series that my phone has liked... of course I haven't used it since you added oc to the ei22 kernel... impressive job bbleos! Thanks!

I just downloaded it fresh (dev-host sucks now) and reflashed it (I even flashed a different kernel first ) and I see it properly displaying Shadow-EL30-MTD_v3.0+OC.. so uh.. bad download? Were you on kernel v0.5 before flashing kernel v3.0?

Yup, definitely a bad download. I should have known since random's 3.4 gave me similar issues earlier thanks to dev host. Sorry, I have been doing some crazy multitasking between kids, setting up my brother in law's fascinate, and other distractions. I see the file was only 10kb now that I have a minute to breathe and focus on my rig again. Thanks for your always quick support. I'll get it to properly flash in a bit and throw you some feedback. Tomorrow is my first day off in 14 days, so I can give it a good run down. Totally forgot about this kernel untill today lol.

It seems like all dev-host files are only being downloaded as 10kb files when downloading on the phone. Must be due to the new page design or something. They seem to download fine from a computer. I will be moving away from dev-host if it stays like this.

Dumb question but im not exactly sure how to get to ext4 recovery.... I D/Led AndRev once and it automatically took me to it but i fear new things so quickly talked to a friend about how to get back to CWM. Is it neccesary or just recomended? Is the advantages to ext4?

thanks man i got the app from the market for 4ext Ive been running this rom all day and battery life is good (didnt listen to my headphones much today so that will be the real test, but so far so good) Its pretty damn fast and i havent had ANY FCs. So im a happy rooter today! and i ran your supercharger with it but was trying to do something else at the time so i may need to un/redo it. But you guys have done it again Thanks
i just downloaded it thru rom manager i think this was the same one stuff kept forceclosing so i changed thanks tho.

Actually this is a different version. The one on rom manager is Honey3d 1.1. The version in this thread is HoneySenseHD v9. They are definitely not the same.
keep getting force close! any idea anyone, i did wipe everything.
Just installed and this is a very nice and smooth Rom. I really like the new theme of the lock screen and launcher dock. I have not gotten any force closing, its actually running really smooth. If your getting force closes than you might try and installing onto all ext4 partitions using 4ext recovery. That's what I did and I have no issues.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
yeah with 4ext recovery i encountered no issues, although the rom should be formatting partitions to ext4
Spare parts deems to FC, not when opened but once you try to open one of the options. But I never use spare parts anyways. 4extra can be found in the marketplace, just search it, if you don't know how to get from CWM. After using it for a while now I like it more, SO many more things you can do with it. But the Rom will not work with CWM so you have to switch if you want this awesome ROM

I wouldn't advise flashing any of my uv scripts on this, as they remove virtuous oc which is used in this Rom to keep min wake freq above 122mhz
I'll whip up uv scripts that leave it intact and only uv+set lmk values

[Kernel] Samsung Galaxy R (i9103) [OC][UV][ROOT] Kernel (Updated 2011-11-16 15GMT)

Well, so far, we don't have a separate forum for Galaxy R (i9103) so I need to put in here...
OK, the kernel is ready. I have tested it using Quadrant benchmark, CF-Bench and continuous playing of asphalt6 & dungeon hunter 2 for hours. Smooth and without causing much heat
Below are the details of the kernel:
Features
=======
- For Samsung Galaxy R (i9103) only
- Based on Samsung open source, kernel version 2.6.36.3
- Added new frequencies: 1200 & 1300Mhz
- Setting of max 1300Mhz through SetCPU
- All stock frequencies are untouched: 216-1000Mhz
- Expose the voltage settings to be set through SetCPU
- Limit the boot up frequencies to be 216-1000 to avoid unstable boot up
- Simple IO Scheduler
- 2.6.36.4 patches
- Speed up framebuffer copy
- memory copy macros and functions fine tune
- Misc. kernel fixes
- Rooted (embedded su & Superuser.apk)
Download link

Updated: 2011-11-16 2:40GMT
Version: 1.2
File: ardatdat_i9103_kernel_1.3G_v02_SIO.tar

Q & A
=====
Q: How to flash the kernel
A: Just flash the .tar file using Odin3 PDA (the same as flashing most of Samsung's android phone). Easily search xda forum for Odin3 and how to use it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262272)
Q: Will it delete all my applications, settings or files?
A: No. (should be..) It is a kernel, not ROM, therefore, nothing would be deleted
Q: What version of ROM is supported?
A: Kernel version is 2.6.36.3, it is proved to work on 2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.6 ROM
Q: I don't need overclock (OC), can you make a non-overclock kernel?
A: The kernel itself supports max. of 1300Mhz. It doesn't mean that you need to operate in such frequencies. You can freely set your frequencies using SetCPU (for example, you can set 216/216 when screen off, and 216/1000). In such case, no OC will occur
Q: Will I be rooted after flashing this kernel?
A: Yes. I have modified the kernel to make it embedded with su & Superuser.apk
Q: How stable is OC? Will the battery drain fast? Will the phone get hot?
A: For 1200Mhz, it is quite stable. For 1300Mhz, I have experienced 1 program FC. Apart from that, I am using 216-1300Mhz for daily use and it is quite stable. Tested with asphalt6 and dungeon hunter 2 for over an hour, no FC occurs. Also, the battery doesn't feel hot (it is the advantage of tegra2 CPU )
Q: How can I revert back to the stock kernel?
A: If you have flashed CWM, and you have backup before you flash this kernel, you can choose (advance restore) to restore only the boot.img. Alternative method is to download the rooted stock kernel here (flash through Odin3 PDA): http://www.mediafire.com/?guhb64qy3h6sang
*** I will keep updating this kernel to make it better and better ***
*** Finally, flash at your own risk ***
=====================================================================
From the Samsung Open Source web site, I have downloaded the kernel source for i9103 and made modifications to it. It is good that this phone is equipped with Tegra2 CPU such that overclocking will not cause much heat problem and I can successfully overclocked to 1.3GHz
Below are some screen shots and I will release the kernel later today as I am still testing the new kernel.
For the first version, I will add in rooting (su+superuser.apk), SIO Scheduler, 2.6.36.4 patches and some minor kernel fixes. Stay tuned
(Quadrant score is: 4275)

Great news, glad to see that there is some dev for I9103!
Do you have in mind ICS cooking?

Good news!!! I'm very happy with the normal CPU speed but it's good to see any developers for this device!!

Well, for ICS, I have downloaded the source code (haven't compiled yet...). I think porting to ICS ROM will not be too easy ... as I lack all those hardware libraries and experiences. Let's wait ICS for Galaxy S2 and see how far we can reach...
This kernel is proved to work in 2.3.4 and 2.3.5. Should also be ok for 2.3.6
thats perfect then! I'm in 2.3.4 stock with rooted kernel, I think if you provide us a rooted kernel with optional OC that would be awesome , thanks!
Great news, thanks!
So great!!! Congratulations for your work ardatdat, could you confirm the ROM version? 2.3.4/2.3.5...

Ps.: why on XDA do not exist a subforum dedicated to Galaxy R?
Thank you! I flashed it and works great. Although there isn't anything this phone was slow at, so only the various benchmark apps tell me it is actually faster!
Thanks for the Root kernel with OC.
Appreciate it alot.
1 step forward to get custom roms.
Can you also share which CWM you used and how ??
Thanks alot.
PS : Does this kernal work with ANY stock rom for 9103 ?

Try some Live wallpaper and Gallery widget slideshow, and you will notice lag, but I don't think that's related to CPU clock. Not to mention that color palette is scaled down to 65000 colors (just look at the Microbes Live Wallpaper).

There is a CWM version 4.0.0.2 that works with the phone. I just found (and flashed) today myself.
I found it at a Chinese forum and at a Spanish forum. Downloaded from both and had the same flashable tar (checked with diff), though different apks (which I didn't install anyway).
Try it from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q33VEDF0
I am terribly sorry but I can't find from which forum I originally got this link. It isn't mine work of course.
After flashing with ODIN (the same way you flashed the rooted kernel), to enter into recovery turn on the phone and while it is on the Galaxy R boot screen, press voulme up and home together. Do not press them before powering on because your phone won't turn on, instead it may block and you will have to remove the battery for some seconds.

This kernel is still in beta! Please help us test for stability. Logs are always welcome
This is still Bryan's kernel, the only changes I have made were to the initramfs and a few changes here and there to the kernel itself.
Bryan is developing again! This thread will continue to be open to discuss the new releases here unless he decides to open his other kernel thread for XDA.
FEATURES
In addition to the changes bhundven has made:
SuperSU instead of Superuser (adds root support using the kernel alone, regardless of which ROM you install this on)
BLN support added (thanks to neldar and our newest Team Acid member m4xm4n) MARKET LINK
Includes a Team Acid boot splash and recovery image (courtesy of theexel and Tablador)
Cleaned up voodoo extensions directory to remove zipalign for TW launcher
Forcing an ext4 conversion by default regardless of lagfix option
Enabled cifs, fuse and tun kernel modules
NOTES
Want to change your boot splash image? Here's a git repo that helps you do just that:

v0.1.1-rc2
Now using Team Acid's changes to voodoo initramfs
Removed a lot of unneeded checks and their included files since we're only dealing with the sgs4g
Added battery capacity check before voodoo lagfix
Modified the ext4 conversion process to use the bonsai defaults
Forcing an ext4 conversion by default regardless of lagfix option
Removed check for froyo anti_boot_glitch since this is a GB kernel
Enabled cifs, fuse and tun kernel modules

FB,
I have had to revert both my wifes and my phone to version 2d because of random reboots and locking up with the last 2 of Bhund's releases. Been back on 2d for 6 days now, not a single reboot or lock-up. Do you believe any of the changes you have made will prevent this happening? Or should I stay on 2d for now?
As always, thanks for the contribution.
At the moment it's essentially the same as Bryan's kernel. I've only changed some of the voodoo files right now but you can test if you wish

FB you are the man!
Awesome work.
I've looked at Bryan's commits between 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 and actually there was not much. The changes were only to the config file to disable DMA, DIDLE, and some serial interface that got there from aries config. Bigger changes that brought in some kernel code happened before 0.1.0. But the 0.1.0 does not make my phone reboot, and the latest changes don't seem to be significant enough to cause reboots.
I'm going to try this build and see how it behaves. Maybe it was something silly like Bryan's 0.1.1 build was somehow damaged during compilation/linking/packaging.
Good job FB!

Ya. And I did before.. I'm embarrassed to admit that I forgot the issue that made my stop using the CMW 5 version. I probably should've posted in the stupid questions thread.
Thank you for your reply
Big Thanks FB! And Team Acid!
Just flashed and love your new logo..sorry for the stupid question about full restore. I kinda fell behind a little and even forgot some stuff lol.
Hell yeah Team ACID
Looks like that freenode session had some results. I'll give it a go. Thanks.
Pure awesome.

So did cleaning up voodoo scripts allow faster boots.

I had some random reboots when I first flashed Valhalla Black but not sure if it was from the kernel or the ROM. Either way, it was most likely something I screwed up.
Just flashed this new update on my phone and it seems like everything transitions way faster than it used to. And all my apps seem to load faster. I'm mostly sober so I'm reasonably sure I'm not seeing things
Anyway, I don't talk on here much cuz I only get half of wtf you guys are talking bout. Plus there's too many lazy ingrates. But FB, you and the other actual decent people who spend hours working for free have made owning this phone a blast. Thanks for everything you all do and if there's ever anything I can do that doesn't require hard work of any kind, lemme know.

Not yet. I'm gonna be doing some more work on the scripts tonight since the kernel takes WAY too long to boot. What I noticed from a quick logcat inspection I did before I left home in the morning, it's zipaligning everything every time. I'm thinking it'd be better to only force the zip align once a week so that way you still get speedy apps and you don't have to suffer every time you reboot .

Hmm. Has it been only certain ROMs giving you reboots? I haven't had issues so far but I have my phone in my pocket all day so I haven't noticed if it does reboot.

[Kernel][FC09][BML/MTD][TW] ShadowKernel-FC09-v1.0.1 / VoodooColor, OC/UV (6/3/2012)

I've maintained the same features in all the kernels (except where noted), so just download the corresponding kernel for your FC09 ROM and flash in CWM.
There seems to be some confusion around. Just because you are on the FC09 modem, does NOT mean you are on an FC09 ROM.
***This is the thread for the TW FC09 ShadowKernels. If you're looking for a ShadowKernel for another ROM, see the links at the end of the OP.***

Yes, I know I started back over with v1.0, but it's got FC09 in the build version, so hopefully I don't confuse people. I doubt anyone would still be using the old v1.0 kernels anyway. So, sorry for the delay, and I hope everything still works

Maybe a Rom Populei v3, Kenny????
Downloaded last night, but i'm out of the country so won't flash till this weekend. I thank Mr BB a ton and welcome him back to TW with open arms
Has anyone been using this after coming from the No-LED version of Samurai? That's my situation, and I noticed that it doesn't appear the LED notifications are working in this kernel either.
Frankly, I prefer it that way, but I didn't know if bbelos was aware of the issue, or if it's only me...
Good point. Bbelos, Samsung screwed up the LED calls. I think you need to edit them to the EL30 numbers for the LED notifications to work.

I think we all noticed at the same time.
So even though this is an MTD kernel, this won't work with CM9?
I saw the note about these are just TW kernels and second guest whether I could use it with CM9 Beta 3.

Aside from CM9 requiring it's own non-TW kernel, it's also an ICS rom while this is a Gingerbread Kernel.

Better then stock by like 600 score.

Can't wait for more development towards this.

Wish when we installed the toolbox there was more settings to play with. I assume this is because the kernel doesn't have tons of options yet.
Also experienced some form of bug. Had the toolbox installed and randomly after like an hour uptime I opened it and minimum cpu was set to like 1.1ghz. When it's stock set to 384, and I did not have set on boot enabled. So I couldn't have changed it. I un installed the toolbox and rebooted.

I was telling you to get a rom based on LF2e or LG1, Trinity will completely replace any kernel installed.
Your Trinity kernel is linked from the OP, there are none pushed to the site yet.
EDIT: Made it clear i mean rom base in the other post, to aid other users.
