Can anyone answer why my wife's Vibrant would have twice as fast download speeds and upload speeds as my Captivate? I have my second refurbished Captivate manufactured 1/16/2011. I just got her Vibrant yesterday with 2.1. She gets about 5MB download and 600MB upload I pull about half of that.
Thanks
Different network? That would be my guess, my captivate can do 6mbps download and 3mbps upload.
T-Mobile supports hduspa AT&T doesn't without a custom modem from an I9000.

Obviously every network is going to be different based many factors.
This thread is destined for greatness :/
flash a ROM that includea an HSUPA+ modem and get the same or faster speeds. I get 3.3MB down and 1.6MB up when using an HSUPA+ modem, and only 2MB down 256KB up on a normal AT&T modem.

Unless you both are on AT&T or T-Mo, and in the same location, your comparison is invalid.

Thanks to all who answered. I was just surprised at the difference in download and upload speeds. For both phones to be Galaxy S I thought the speeds would be similar even though they are on different networks. I live in Chicago and T-Mobile's coverage and speed is pretty good here. I thought AT&T would have faster speed in Chicago though.

you have never used an hsupa+ modem. hsupa+ is another way of saying 4g.

It's not 4G.... it produces 4g like speeds on the high end.
4G is LTE not hspa+
hspa+ is more like 3.5g

both hspa+ and lte are considered to be 4g by at&t although neither of them actually satisfy the imt advanced requirements to really be considered 4g.

Anyone else's Inspire getting crap speeds? Why is my x10 slaughtering this?
I had the same problem. Try creating a new APN then switching back to the original one. I was getting 0.5mbs then getting 1-3mbs afterwards.

I am seeing the same thing. My download is typical (1-3mbps here in SF), but my iPhone would typically get 1-2mbps upload and I cant get better than 400kbps on the Inspire 4G

Until the root\rom becomes less buggy I'm just going to deal with the slow upload speeds. Upload isn't a huge deal for me anyhow, it's all about the download, baby!
Download seems to be as fast as ever, at least as fast as AT&T's network will support here. We're still limited to about 1-3 mbps in SF, whereas when I go to Seattle or Vegas I commonly see 4-6 mbps... Bummer they're so slow to upgrade backhaul.

Yeah.. in boston i am lucky to get 1.5. I am guessing they haven't flipped the switch on the 4g? Sort of horrible how they advertise it though, walked by a att store in the mall tonight and there were signs all over the place about it.

Well there's no "flipping the switch" because all the hardware in the metros has been upgraded to HSPA+... but the issue holding us back on speed is the backhaul going into the network. It's like going from 802.11g to 802.11n and expecting your internet to go faster... if you only have a 10 mbps internet connection going into it you can have the fastest router on the planet and the internet still won't go past 10 mbps... that's ATT's issue. The HSPA supported the backhaul just fine, they weren't maxing it out, and now HSPA+ aka their "4G(like) Speed Network" has the technology in place, but until they upgrade the individual tower's backhaul, houston, we have a roadblock :-( Good ol Ma Bell http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon13.gif
Same here only getting 2.5mbps Max in SoCal...sometimes just .60-.80mbps lol..

I'm at USC in LA, and since yesterday my phone has been having issues connecting to LTE. I haven't heard any news of outages, though, so I'm wondering if something is borked with my phone. I was on CM7, but I tried going completely back to stock and still no dice. Is anyone else having LTE issues?
haven't heard of anything but gaving the same issues since yesterday. In the Burbank area.
Oh, good — then maybe there's a chance that it's not just my phone. Even 3G sometimes drops out, and nothing comes up for LTE Only except 1X.
Weird that nobody is reporting anything, though.

if you are using the radio from chingys leak that is the problem, best one I found for la is the original ota update radio
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I think it was an outage because 4G kept flickering all day yesterday and now it seems steadily on today without me changing anything. Thanks for the suggestion though.
there's no LTE yet where i am, but every now and then the 3G will cut in & out for about a day or so(and get stuck at 1X). whenever i call Verizon about it they'll either say there's work being done in my area or an area nearby and just said they could transfer me to a tech to see if there's something on my phone not set correctly or will just give the b.s. "pull your battery for 30 seconds" bit.
good luck if you call them
I'm at USC as well and didn't notice any issues. I was on MR2.5 and flashed the new 802 radio last night which seems even better connection and speed-wise. What radio are you using?
I'm in West LA, on the latest leak, no issues at all yesterday or today.
Currently running on 1x like a boss. Wait a minute that ain't good 4g down on the east side of the city.

Tampa Florida here and I have 3g but its about the speed of 1x and its not stable. Comes and goes sometimes I get the lame 1x too.
XDA App - HTC: Thunderbolt
I'm in Pomona area and I'm all over the 3g and 1x
4G is down here in Oklahoma. Was just getting to a good part of my movie on netflix too. Bummer...

same here, it hit about a hour ago. I been reflashing radios and different roms. I think its due to the new cities being added to the 4g network
3G and LTE is out for me too in LA. I'm using 1.48.00.0726w and 0.01.78.0802w_3
currently only 1x and 3G in Vancouver, WA for the past few hours.

Anyone else having super slow internet speeds on their Photon Q LTE? My Evo Shift was way faster, and I'm wondering what my problem could be. I returned my Galaxy III in favor of the Photon Q LTE because I thought it still had EVDO. :/
Haven't noticed anything slower than the Epic was, which isn't the phone in either case---its Sprint (pre Network Vision).
Is it possible you live in a WiMax area and had been using that on the Shift? That at least would account for the difference. Pre-NV 3G data speeds on Sprint are always sluggish regardless of which phone you use pretty much.
Yea cause of the new iPhone 5 users noticed speeds are getting slower than usual. Had a lot of people complain at work I just pointed at the iPhone 5 banner lol!

Sprint is just slow. Thats about it. Mine was getting about 500k down, and i updated my profile, and my PRL, which double that, which still isnt good. Try that out and see if that helps. Oh yeah, this is 3g btw. On 4g, I have gotten about 12mbs is the fastest I have seen so far.

I installed Shift_SensuAOSP_CM7 yesterday. I live in a rural area, but have always had 3G in roaming. Now I don't, and also in parts of town in the city that I normailly did I don't. It goes from 1x to 3G every few minutes.
Any Ideas?
Thanks,

Yup stock is coded to ALWAYS show at the very least 3G. So now that your on AOSP its showing you Sprints true service.

You never had 3G if your showing 1x in the same place. The ROM's that sprint puts on their phones is a lie and they make you think your always in 3G coverage no matter how crappy Sprint truly is.

That's interesting because it was always slower, but I figured it was because Verizon was capping the speed of something, but now I know it's not even on 3G at all.
