MIUI for Droid Charge - Verizon Droid Charge

I am not a developer, I am just a normal phone geek that enjoyed MIUI, and found this following site with a MIUI build.
MOD Edit: Link Removed due to registration, and general shadiness.
I know that MIUI is old news for some of you, and dislike the ROM, however for those, such as my self, that are MIUI fans I found a beta build of MIUI for the charge in another web site "z4cellforum" by Cjen. Since XDA is usually the best place for ROMs, I thought I'd share this links with you guys.

Nice link. Can't even view anything before signing up. And not everyone uses facebook! /rant

I don't care enough to log in and look, but there was a guy that popped up here and on Rootz a week or two ago claiming to have a MIUI build which turned out to just be an EP1 GummyCharged build that was poorly modified and had a few MIUI app replacements. I didn't look at it myself, but others whom I respect reported it to be a total hack job.
Anyone know if this is the same build?

[VIDEO] Samsung Captivate Weekly ROM Review

All links pulled due to XDA Request after an XDA member complained I was only out for profits to a moderator on a few products I have. Due to the fact I link to my JIG and a few other things in many videos, I was asked to pull any content relating to this.
I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
good idea, thanks for the video
Awesome review!
Quadrant it fixed now
All 720p decode/encode was busted
DG! Question and feel free to say no by all means but maybe I can get your attention with out a PM or post in your ROM thread which I'm sure is hard to ever see for you.
I am adding a download page on my website and wondered if I could also host your ROM's there? I wanted to host lots of things from ROMs, to useful CWM packages to open source apks and others. I completely understand if you do not want me to do that and I wanted to ask before doing so. PM me if you see this...I've pm'd you on the subject once but doubt you saw it as I'm sure your box is through the roof on PM's.

Heh, ya, it gets maxed out every week or so...
That's fine tho.
I have been looking to flash my phone with a ROM but I can never decide which one to go with so at least now I can get some insight into what some of these do and how fast they are.
I will be looking forward to seeing these every week.
Thanks for taking the time and doing the great side by side comparisons. I look forward to checking out your weekly videos!
Nice review. Is the sound quality issue you mention the result of the Captivate having unique hardware in the form of the "Audience" voice-processing chip that the I9000 does not? It's a shame that one would have to give up support of this circuitry for the sake of running a custom ROM.
I remember reading about this a while back but thought it had been sorted out/fixed.
Good review. Liked the comparison.
There are some interesting comments on your perception video about lack of support for the audience processing chip

Yes I agree. I'm not sure if that's the correct reason as the speaker phone function works flawlessly but it's interesting to say the least.

This community has just received a +1 by having you around.
Nice work with the vids and pretty informative for people looking to get details and previews before flashing. I'm just going to go around thanking your posts.
Hopefully people can recognize the amount of time that you're putting into this stuff and be thankful that you have a Captivate in your hand.
Lovin the videos and website. Thank you for the time you are putting into this I think you have something great going here. If you & DG ever decide to get different phones or leave the Galaxy S community I will defiantly follow.
Great videos, but noob question.
How are the roms that different from each other?
Most of them seem to be running similar kernels and you can still flash whichever ones you want for lagfix or OC/UV.
Do they mostly differ in terms of appearance/default apps? How about speed/performance?
You messed up the video!

There is a semi working port of honeycomb for the g-tablet available from the below link. I looked through the threads and could find no mention of this.

You need to look harder.
The thing is, because its not being developed/released on xda its not mentioned in the Development section.
sorry - It makes sense that this is not in the dev thread

I'm curious about this since the project obviously IS development, but is being moved to General every time a thread references it.
Is this happening because Roebeet is now, for some reason no one has shared, persona non grata around here?
I mean, I guess it makes sense if he is no longer part of the XDA "family" but it still seems kind of silly.
I believe it is because the DEVELOPMENT is happening elsewhere.

It's not that at all..
Development is for the actual development of something and by the developer of that something, not the discussion of things being developed elsewhere regardless of who is developing it.
A good example.....CM7, the primary source tree for all Gingerbread built ROMs on the Gtablet is discussed in General as well because CyanogenMod is not posting their development and issues....it's others just talking about it.
The easiest way to think of it is that the development forum section is for a developer to post on their work and get feedback.
If it's not your work and you aren't doing the "developing" on it.....post it in General.
This really makes me want to punch whoever that drove roebeet away. Seriously, the guy is as dedicated as you can expect any dev who's doing this out of pure hobbyist enthusiasm.
The guy actually spent his valuable time to give us honeycream. Whoever that accused roebeet of any ill intention and effectively drove him away, shame on you. You should go and buy an ipad and leave us gtabbers alone.
When you think about it viewsonic made this all possible by releasing the 1.2 bl. In the end they have given us honey creams...
The honey comb port is from another device that uses a compatible or similar bl.
Roebeet is simply ironing out the gtab specific bugs. But therew are numerous bugs, so his work is much appreciated.
I definitely hate following the development on an outside site from xda. Because I love this community. But it is what it is.

I think you take this too far. Just being a jerk now.
I guess you will be removing all links to CM7 huh? Isn't that another tablet/phone/forum site? Those DEV's don't post/host their projects here.
I've never really taken sides in this little spat, but I think this is childish.
It's not like this is just one of many CM7 derivatives. It's the only bootable HC image I know of for the G-tab at this moment. Whatever flaws, issues, malfunctions it may have, many in these forums would like to play around.
This is an amazing rom for an alpha!

Don't worry its all over the General section right now
XDA is merely reaping what some of its members/mods have planted (see: roebeet vs. XDA regarding 1.2 bl), and the more they continue to make a big issue about it the more the members will be trafficking and directing others traffic outside XDA.

Thats not the issue here (IMHO), the thing is , everyone who wants to try this ROM needs to load 1.2bl, this just proves that 1.2bl was the way to go (as suggested a month or two ago). The 1.1 <-> 1.2 switch just to try honeycomb will drive many users (at one point or another) to keep using the semi-backed, still alpha, HC release to avoid the overhead of the switch (especially given the rate of advances made in the HC port and bricking risk involved in jumping back and forth). Now all the current ROM developers (in clear contradiction to what XDA advocated) will need to either release 1.2 compatible ROMs or risk loss of interest.

I originally thought that they didn't want to do this becuase they will then have wasted all that time on the 1.1 Roms that are still in development...but then something dawned on me. Roebeet was able to port 3 existing Roms, all that he worked on, to 1.2. One based on TNT lite, one based on Gadam, and one (and probably best Rom I've ever used) based on Vegan. Keep in mind, he had all 3 of these up and running in about 2 days. He's actually been working on all of those, the HC port, and general 1.2 tools all at the same time. He's created direct and simple processes to flash to 1.2, a revised CWM for it, has Pershoot and Clemsyn on board with kernels.
Call me a fanboi, etc...but the man has really put in some major time on the 1.2 projects.

The whole 1.1/1.2 bootloader thing is stupid and melodramatic. There is little difference, and no real reason to use one vs the other. As builds from Malata get released, this will likely be a non-issue. sooner or later a 'standard' will emerge. Time takes care of this.
As for this 'overhead' between switching, its a fairly simple process to nvFlash. I think we forget that this is an enthusiasts and developers site. There are plenty of threads/articles explaining how to do it. This ain't Viewsonic Tech support. If you can't read these threads and learn how to do this, you really shouldn't be toying with the firmware to start with.

At the moment there is a few good reasons to use 1.2. The main one is HoneyComb . But it has been found that the 1.2 for the Adam is interchangeable with our 1.2. The adam developers have said they are working on a gingerbread release which means that 1.2 will be the way to get acceleration on a gingerbread rom.
Sure at the moment, if you don't feel like playing around with Honeycomb which is only partially working (I can't believe how much progress has been made in the last 2 days), there is no real reason to switch today. But, it looks like the best of what will come out in the near future is on 1.2 which can only be found on a different web site currently.

[Q] MIUI or CM7 for the Charge?

Hi there,
I'm looking at switching over to verizon before the unlimited data feature goes away, and of all the phones the Charge is the best one out there so far.
However, coming from the Galaxy S2, android 2.2 with an old touchwiz just wont cut it. Anyone working on Cm7 or MIUI ports?
No CM7 ports available that I know of. I couldn't care less about MIUI, so I wouldn't know if there is anything available, but my guess is no, there isn't.
You should take a look at the GummyCharged ROM in the Dev section. It's a cross of ASOP and CM code with a handful of the Sammy apps. It's very nice and the Dev is constantly improving it. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116086 )
The Charge has been out for about 2 months now, and from everything I've seen, porting CM/AOSP to any device is something that takes several months to do. Add in the complexity of a dual-RIL setup with one of those being a completely new technology, and you're looking at something that will likely take 4-5 months at a minimum most likely, unless some experienced AOSP/CM porters pick up the Charge, because at the moment, there are only a handful of people that have done any development work here, and no one has taken on porting AOSP/CM before.
Is GC built on 2.3.4, or 2.2?
Yep, thats what I would figure, but I was wondering if any one has even started on it. I've currently got the GS2, and even though it launched in the UK about 5 weeks ago, there is already an alpha of MIUI up...
Thanks for the info!

MIUI on the Charge sure would look nice I think.
I am working on a beta of miui for the charge. I will be taking Info from the fascinate, Since they are not far apart.
I will need donations due to the only charge I can use is my girls and I dont want to have to restore it and debug it.
My girl would go nuts lol.
But you can go here for the beta and donate on homepage for me to get a Charge to tinker with. Please Support

Yea... I read that as "Give me money and ill buy a Charge and make MIUI for u guise". He's got 13 posts and 1 thank which doesn't exactly instill trust...
Please deposit money in my Nigerian off-share money account. I have MIUI in its finished form, but I need to ship it to the states. When I get $500,000.00 I will have enough money to send it via helicopter to the nearest shipping yard. I cannot upload files across the internet because my ISP only lets forum traffic and traffic to my Nigerian Paypal Donation account. I'm in a quick bind because my house is going to confiscated by Rebel forces from Somalia. They are land pirates.
I think I hear them now, quickly, help!
Seriously though, if you are developing MIUI or have those skills, I suspect you will be able to secure a Droid Charge. Also, please provide some proof that you are a dev or are serious about deveopment.
I don't know of any developer that has asked for donations directly, especially before a project was started...

This is very shady.
This "Miui" as it were is just gummycharged with Gummy crossed out and Miui written in with crayon. Extract the file and you will see the "coincidences" between it and GBE2.0
There aren't any viruses in this (AFAIK). Just a ploy to get money.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

No I don't even care for the money. I just want miui for the charge. So I'm trying to get it on there. That's why I took it off my sites so I can sit down on my day off tomorrow and play around with things. So have some faith. Do not send donations. Better?
I've never understood people's fascination with MIUI, I never cared for it... either way it isn't gonna be fully functional yet as we haven't even sorted out the RIL for CM9/ICS

Petition to former SGS4G developers to return to the forum

As you all know, nearly two weeks ago the long awaited source code for the Android Gingerbread software was released. This had been a joyous occasion for many of us who had been patiently awaiting its release in hopes that it would lead to working versions of Cyanogenmod and MIUI on our phones, as well as several kernel modifications that were not previously possible. The first few hours of speculation turned into days, which turned into weeks, with the promises of development yet to be fulfilled. As it turns out the fears of some of you had come true, that the few developers that were left lost interest in the Galaxy S 4G for other projects.
While people like Raver have actively stuck with us, there has been a dead silence by those who were previously the most visible on this forum. Whitehawkx who has left us for the Galaxy S2, Dsexton who had left for lack of a separate computer, and Dr Honk who God knows where he is. Krylon ive seen mention working on a kernel once but with little detail. These were some of the best we had and we need to make it overwhelmingly obvious to them that they are wanted and needed here. So I propose that we take the time to let them know that the source code they've wanted and needed is now available and ready to be worked. Youre welcome to write up your own words for a message, though heres something I threw together along with the public contact info for the devs.
Feel free to reach out to any other devs who have not been listed here or from other forums.
Update: Dev's emails were removed by site mods. If you would like to email the people below, you can readily find their email in their user profiles and in their Donate To Me links.

“Hello (dev screen name),
This is (your screen name) from the Galaxy S 4G forums on XDA. If you haven’t heard, the source code for Gingerbread we have been eagerly awaiting was finally released a few weeks ago for our phones. With the source finally released, the limitations our devs had faced before in developing for the SGS4G are now gone, and the path is clear for development of CM7 and MIUI for our phones. I have noticed you have not been around the SGS4G forums recently, but I along with all the other forum members have been hopefully awaiting your return to developing for our phones with the expertise you have shown in all of your many other projects for the SGS4G. As well, the lack of devs on the forum have left many of the still poplar ROM’s unmaintained and not updated to the latest official release. Please come back to developing for the SGS4G for all of us who have spent hours testing and using your ROM’s and show us what your talents can turn these phones into.
Thank you”
I think this is good intended but i fear it wont change anything.
Dont forget soma and airfluip who has been developing for our phones recently.
Krylin said in twitter that he will begin working in a ROM based on GB for our phones. Although he said he will start it today if he doesnt its still good news. I know he can make kernels and roms. Also raver is working. Dsexton said he will get a computer soon and that he needed break. White.... I dont know he droppwd when ki3 leaked. But oh well, lets enjoy or wait.
I've been lurking these forums since this phone came out, with the occasional post here and there.
I have seen people waiting months just for root.
I remember kb5 enhanced was our only ROM for times without end, just to have that developer throw a fit at Mr.Clown for mistakingly closing his thread and leave us hanging.
I remember following Krylon on twitter for what seemed like an eternity, until we finally had cwm on our phones.
Then came the good times.
New roms coming out just about every week, themes, mods, and all the goodies we see on our forums today.
New developers popping up, the formation of teams like aerodonk and acid.
Now we are back in one of these silent periods.
It seems like all development stopped.
But one thing I've learned from these forums is that patience is a virtue.
We go from bad times to good times, to bad again, and so on.
I'm sure there is progress being done right now.
No matter how little, our how long it's taking, it will come.
And a new life cycle will start for our phones.
We just gotta hang tight, get through this metamorphose, and then our phone will come out, greater then before!
Saw on krylons twitter something about doing another rom based off of the gb update so that looks promising.
Also its not just the sgs4g. I own a sensation as well and things have really slowed there too.
I understand everybodys frustration with the length of time that it is taking for us to get new roms. But you have to understand these guys do this in their spare time. And yes, it is true that because of Samsung and t mobile taking forever to release a GB for us made some of the devs loose interest and move to other devices; however, we still have Raver and Krylon on or side, Dsexton will be coming back soon, and hopefully we can get Drhonk and Whitehawx back if not for developing but for at least guidance, tips, and support. I for one have started trying to learn how to do some of this but without a Linux machine it is a bit difficult. But there is no reason some of you can't chip in and try to learn this stuff too. Not to override the few true devs we have, but to assist them.

Hi Thomas
Please share your knowledge source. I am willing to learn as well, though to tell you the truth, moding and theming couldn't care me less, I'm always into performance and reliability, as well as good RTL and foreign language support (like in CM and MIUI).
Other than that, I'm always on stock theme.
I'm no dev, but I'm considering to become one in the future.

My biggest resources are picking the brain of RaverX3X and google. You can do most everything on a windows machine except mod kernels and make an Odin .tar (for those you need Linux or the ability to run Linux in a vm environment). There are quite a few tutorials out there. You just have to download the right tools to do it, have lots of spare time to devote to it and the gonads to test it.lol... Pm me later with specific questions and I can give you direct links to tutorials that might help you as well.

Might not be such a bad idea.

Interesting idea. The only issue I see is what if we collect money and no one steps up to the plate. Would everyone just get a refund or would the money go towards another cause?

You don't necessarily need Linux in order to make an Odin flashable tar file, I personally use Cygwin to make the modem packages.
Yes I am aware that Cygwin is Linux-like command line, but it is by no means Linux in a VM environment.

I would rather set a bounty for ICS. CM9 would be a better goal in my opinion.
what happened to CM8? did i miss something?

I remember when i had the galaxy vibrant early this year i was so into the device cause they were a lots of roms here to choose from and thats one of my concerns now for this device now. If you go to the vibrant section there are a lots of 2.2 biulds 2.2.1, 2.3 ,2.3.3 etc etc etc. And they are all different. Including from stock to MIUI and htc Sence. As well as gingerbread and honeycomb. So my question is why the devs didnt work on some builds like those for this device. From my end i really dont care about what number of the OS is as long the build is stable, fast, bloatware free, custom ringtones, wallpapers, and other great thing that i did manage to see on my old vibrant that i no longer own :/
Yesterday my older sister got the galaxy s 2 for tmobile and its so awsome. I have envy in me now jajajajaja xD

I would leave it as a standing bounty like they did with the HP Touchpad. Someone will jump on it if its large enough.

CM8 was reserved for Honeycomb so ICS will be CM9

This is true. Which is what I am learning to use now, but I forgot to add that part... Thanks for catching my error. From my understanding, you can use it to modify a kernel as well, but i'm not having very good luck with it yet.

This is mere conjecture on my part, but I would assume that you can modify the kernel in Windows as long as your text editor supports Unix-type line endings (Notepad++ works nicely), and then compile it using presumably gcc in Cygwin. Again, this is merely speculation on my part, having only built a Linux kernel on Linux, for my desktop.

Mecha Centre- for everything HTC Thunderbolt

This is already over at RootzWiki, but I thought I'd spread the news to XDA too!
Hey all,
So I've been working on a site (which went live earlier today) to serve as a repository for ROMs, kernels, recoveries, things like that, and even news- Mecha Centre.
I've noticed that the Thunderbolt community is dying a bit, not only because of the age of the Thunderbolt, but because of the whole RIL Ice Cream Sandwich fiasco which suggests that Thunderbolt development is dead without HTC's releasing updates.
I've created this site to help revive/keep the community of devs and users alive, as well as to make it easier to locate ROMs and other files one may need for their Thunderbolt.
We're still working on the site, but we already have some live links and news, and I encourage everyone to check it out! We try to keep ROM files so as to avert the dreaded 404 dead link, and our goal is to update often and keep up with the developers and their ROM releases.
You can find out more about this project at Mecha Centre and contact us with any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. via [email protected]
Thanks guys! Long live Thunderbolt!
Nice to see someone wants to continue but there are quite a few of these small starter sites now, i remember a few months ago when someone brought out their own as well, don't know what happened to it.. but I'm all for having a "good" rom mirror for all the old roms that seems to have no working links now.

I didn't know this has been done before... Well Mecha Centre isn't going anywhere, especially since the site is free to host, I plan on keeping this repository available so long as people actually have Thunderbolts and use the site once in a while.
Thanks for the comment!
Well, I haven't been on in a few days, but I know there are a lot of ROMs still missing from Mecha Centre, I've flashed several ROMs over the past few days to help sort of distinguish one ROM from the other and help out newbies with ROM selection. With that in mind, I also plan to add screenshots, the way it looks now, I'm seeing one page per ROM to really get in the details.
I am also considering toning down the Ads a lot, not a little, a lot; I've made less than a quarter with it in the past few days, I don't see it paying the site's bills for the future. I've added a Donate button, which may or may not work at the present, it's being weird, at least for my test page...
As much as I'd like to add as many ROMs to Mecha Centre as possible- that's kind of the point of the site- many ROMs are virtually identical, I cannot tell you how many ROMs are a devs interpretation of the perfect Sense ROM or the perfect AOSP ROM. So while I plan on getting as many ROMs as possible up, I give priority to the "popular" ones, CM7, Liquid ICS, MIUI, etc.
Anyway good night all!
Your site needs some gingeritis 3D in its life

Noted, I'll add it with the rest I was planning to add today/tomorrow.
Moved site to MechaCentre.tk
Not to revive this thread, but is this something a mod can/should make a sticky?

just posting this in your thread doesn't necessarily mean that a mod or staff member will see it, this site is large. it would be better to contact a mod directly and ask about it.
