Motorola Add-on for Android SDK - Android General

Just a heads up for all of you folks with Motorola devices. I don't know if anyone has seen this yet but Google and Motorola Mobility have provided add-ons for the Android SDK that you can download within the SDK manager to help target Motorola Devices specifically and more accurately with device-specific emulators. The list of devices can be found here:
https://developer.motorola.com/docstools/tools/
When downloading the packages within the SDK Manager you will need to provide MOTODEV account verification, which if you do not have one it is free so shoot over to the MOTODEV site and register. I just thought this was exciting, being a Bionic user that likes to mess around with Apps, especially because of the LONG list of Moto devices that have add-ons now in the SDK such as the Razr, DROID4, ADMIRAL, Atrix 2, Photon, and various others....

Sorry for the late response... can you provide an updated link for motorola SDK add-on. The one you provided above is now redundant.

Repository for droid files

I like to tinker with my Droid X. Sometimes it is difficult to find files - rsdlite and SBF's come to mind - and when you do find them, they are on megaupload or a free file sharing network.
Here is what I am trying to find out:
Is there a need for a dedicated droid file repository?
What are the legalities?
Would people use it?
My wife and son have iPhones and there are numerous repositories "repos" they are called. Why no equivalent for the droids?
As far as the legalities, it does not seem to be a concern as it is legal to root/jailbreak your device.
SO why or why not to have a droid file repository.
Just a simple site to host files in one spot.

Android Market - There is no device

This was their response to my questions related to the Viewsonic G-Tablet:
----------------------------------------
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. After further research, according to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.
Regards,
Jenna

What did you ask and did you really expect support on an unsupported device?
Sorta like taking a netbook with snow leopard to the genius bar and asking for help with iTunes.

Wow.. you found this site, you found this forum, and you missed the million different posts for Market Fix, Full Android Market, etc...
You need to do some work to get the market working on the GTab. Out of the box it's not supported. It's likely never going to be officially supported unless by some miracle we get a honeycomb update from Viewsonic.
In the meantime, it is pretty easy to get access. Just don't ask Google for help doing it.
And, there's always the Amazon market, which works just swell...

[Q] Android App Dev - How to?

Hi All,
I have been a user of Android phones since the first Samsung Galaxy S phone was released. I loved that phone and still have it in prestine condition at home. I then moved up to the Galaxy S2 which i am still using to this day, as i have not needed to upgrade to the S3 yet, since the S2 has such great support on these forums.
Moving forward to the present date, i have developed a keen interest in learning how to program Android apps. However, I do not know where to start. So far I have downloaded and researched the following :
ANDROID SDK KIT AND SITE
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
ANDROID EMULATOR - Jar of Beans
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975675
APK file editor
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189971
Very useful starters guide to ADB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872128
But am now stuck on the learning side of things.
So my question to you guys is, can someone point me in the right direction, with a couple of links and resources that they have used and found really useful. There is plenty of links after doing a google search, but I am looking for peoples tried/tested/succeeded links and resources, so that I have the very best material at my disposal for some upcoming ideas that I have for apps for the Android OS.
Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

Dreamcast Emulator for Android

Like many others, I had searched and installed the early alpha apk that barely worked. The file was everywhere, but the authors were hard to track down and a direct source was even less likely to be found. Recently one of the forums that was often linked back to simply because one member claimed to be one of the developers released an official site link along with the source to build it:
http://reicast.com/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reicast.emulator
https://github.com/reicast/reicast-emulator
Also, if you are like me and own the Dreamcast but it is buried in the closet, here are the BIOS files:

You can find the latest builds at: http://reicast.loungekatt.com

Android Reverse Engineering & Hacking: Share your development environment

Hi All,
I have some experience when it comes to PC reverse engineering, and I'm interested in getting into Android RE.
If you've already been in the trenches and reverse engineered Android system components and 3rd party APKs then share what your setup looks like, which programs you use, what pitfalls to avoid, etc.
My setup is so far a mess since I'm trying out different tools.
I do have one specific question as well. In Android development options you can selecta debug app and make the system wait for this debugger. This feels an extremely powerful ability for RE, but after searchingI could not find out how to use this. I assume it's 2 parts, one is an apk i push to the system and select in dev opts, and the second part is a debugger i run from my PC. I've attached a picture of the Android screen.
1) Experienced Android RE hackers please share your development environment and toolkit, including any specialized scripts or tools you made yourself.
2) Point me to some information on how to use Android devopts debugging.
I feel like this belongs in the dev forum, but the rules clearly state i should post here.
note: i attached the image but xda seems to have trouble loading it
