After rooting my phone and flashing the Sky ICS rom, I now have a dead spot in the touchscreen around the 6, T, and G area. If I try the Swype keyboard, the swype line between letters fails at the spot, ending the swype word. I tried to fix this by flashing a few different roms, some of which would make the area bigger (affecting the R key as well, and the 6 key even when in landscape mode). I have wiped the cache/Dalvik multiple (3x each time I did it), wiped the data and re-flashed, with no benefit. I flashed a stock rom, again with no benefit. Before I use Odin and try to return to pre-root state, does anyone know of a fix for the dead spot?
Just go all stock and if you still have problem get Replacement!!!!!!!!

Well, I restored it to stock using Odin and the G still isn't working, so it looks like I will be returning it. :/
Edit: After posting this, I installed Autodesk Sketchbook to see if I could draw around the area and show what exactly was not working, but Sketchbook was able to draw through the G's area fine. Very, very interesting.

Is there a way to recalibrate the touch screen? I dont see anything in the menus, nor can i find an app in the market. All of a sudden the right side of my screen is not responding to touch. (about half inch from right side) but all the menu buttons work.
I have a stock phone. Never rooted.

My touch screen stop working when I turn the phone upside down.. Not sure if this is the same problem.
Haven't had this happen. I've only had the auto rotate stop working.

Honestly that's a really great idea if it was a feature. Think about it no more accidental answer/deny when pulling it out of your pocket if you put it in upside down. And how often if ever is the phone used upside down. I'm calling for a patent on this one!
I have this issue.
I have this issue and it goes far beyond the keyboard. I will be playing fruit ninja and half the screen will be unresponsive. Its happening quite a bit and I am thinking about exchanging my phone.
Same here
I've been having the same problems but I think it has only happened to me when I use custom ROMs such as Cyanogenmod or Coredroid. When I went back to stock I don't remember it happening.
I was running Coredroid V8.1 a few weeks ago and didn't like it because the font looked terrible but I think the keyboard didn't give that problem, it was with an older version of CD. Right now I am using Cyanogenmod 7.0 and it happens a lot and gets annoying. I now for a fact that is not hardware since the keyboard will work normally on landscape and other stuff will respond to the touchscreen.
Still trying to see if there is some sort of fix or to use a new keyboard. Installed GO keyboard and same thing happened, now using Swiftkey X and it happened also but now I took the protective case to see if that has something to do with it LOL.
edit: disregard.
ive had this problem also for awhile. i dont remember having it on the factory rom, but that was awhile back also. ive had it on every custom rom that i can think of. i used coredroid and cm7 for awhile. right now im using miui. ive tried 3-4 different keyboard at least, and had this problem with all of them. the keyboards accuracy also seems to decline. when switching to a new keyboard the problem initially goes away, but it eventually starts doing it again with the different keyboard.
I would try come non CM based roms as I have seen this come up a few times and the omr thing most have in common is that it shows up on CM based roms like MIUI. I have never had this issue on any sense based rom so that would lead me to think like wifi and Bluetooth that it is due to the non OEM drivers CM uses.
Coreddroid is a sense rom, and I had it back then. I've been using absolution, which is cm7 based, and have not since had the problem. The problem has also been reported to occur on non rooted, stock phones.

Nevermind that, I still have it.
So I've been experiencing these weird bugs over the past couple months on many different ROMS and what not. Here's what happens:
1- Sometimes (I'd say every three days) when I power up my phone it boots and shows the homescreen but it's extremely laggy for about 30 seconds, it vibrates for about 3 seconds then acts normal.
2- Random parts of the screen become unresponsive. This happens daily, for example, when typing a text I can hit the t, f, h, and b keys but for some reasons the g will not respond. If I hit any other key it will vibrate as I have it set to do, but not the g, it will not vibrate or enter the letter in the text. And it isn't always the g, it changes letters each time.
3- The vibration feedback on the letters lag or go off an on. If I type a few words quickly it will vibrate maybe every other letter or not at all then catch up with one long vibrate.
These aren't major but they can be annoying. Any help will be much appreciated!
Bump. Anyone? Now everytime I text some of the letters are unresponsive and the phone vibrates erratically.

I've had about 6 different ROMs over the past few months and it has only started happening the last month or so. I just restarted my phone and now everything is back to working fine. I thought maybe it was glitching because of water damage but the indicator on my battery is white as ever. Could it be something I installed?

Very possibly. I just got done removing an app that started messing with my head, by way of weird **** happening with the keyboard.
Thing is, I hadn't yet run the app even once, but it decided to install itself as a service, nonetheless.
I had to check running services to figure out it had loaded without me even giving an initial run of the app.

I had similar issues when I first got the phone with the stock Rom before rooting or flashing roms. After I started flashing I never had the problems again. I recently went back to stock for the ota and the problems were back.

I've experienced this. I'm stock, but a thorough wiping of the area with a cloth (or shirt) made it responsive again. Weird, I know.
Try doing a FULL wipe before installing a rom.
I have had the same type issues in the past when trying to short cut and not do a full wipe first. The Full Wipe 1.3 makes it very easy and it seems most of the little bugs you are describing go away.
I for one will never flash a rom without doing a full wipe. The time saved troubleshooting is so well worth it!

Seriously. Every single dev recommends a full wipe prior to a new flash.
I've seen it mentioned often by devs that 99% of all problems people encounter are caused by left over **** from the previously installed rom, not to mention countless instances of "wiped this or that and reflashed...problem went away" by members in the rom threads.

Hi guys,
I'm using Motorola Milestone XT720 as stated in the title, and it is running on Dexter 2.2 Froyo.
About a month or so ago, my phone keyboard had been giving me problems, the letter 'Q' and '1' on the keyboard are no longer working. Then recently about 3weeks ago, the whole row including of 'Q','W','E','R','T','Y','U','I','O','P' is not working as normal. Now the column of 'Q' is not working as normal. Maybe i should say the screen. But by giving the phone a little knock on the screen it will allow me to type properly for awhile but the problem will return after awhile.
I read up on posts and some say it is the software problems.
What could be the cause? Is there any solution to it? Can you guys help me out please! Thanks in advance.

There is a post in here for a new digitizer replacement, not sure if that would fix it, but not if it is a software issue. what kind of warranty do you have? my provider gives us 2 years. I'm not qualified to answer your question just my 2 cents. Good luck bud.

Try using a different keyboard and if qwerty isn't working with a different keyboard, it is probably a hardware issue. My guess is that the touch screen isn't calibrated. A different kb will tell you if it is hardware or software.
sounds like a hardware problem... why dont you email the service center and ask how much it costs to replace the screen, and then go for it if the price is reasonable? my phone's still under warranty and the guys at the service centre are quite good. went there to fix my lcd and they even helped me replace some other stuff like the metal frame and the digitizer...
I dropped my phone for the second time and now bottom touch sensitive keys aren't working. When I press those keys it registers input as bottom part of touch screen. I can't go back, press menu key or home key. Anyone knows how to solve this problem?
I have exactly the same problem.
It seems that display is ok but i cant type letters like:
t, y, f, g, h, c, v, b.
Also, it's similar area when i want to hang up, i can't press red button. However, other applications it seems to work ok.
Did you tried to put phone keyboard in landscape and have you same letters that doesn't work ?
You can download android system info from market and use multitouch test. With one finger you move in all screen area and you see if the circle is on all area. That will tell you if it's hardware or software.

If you have same area not working with keyboard in landscape and with android system info app it's may be hardware related.
You can try to flash back stock sbf to see if it's the same, with a nandroid backup you can restore all after and if you send your phone into warranty you have to flash back your stock sbf.

As the title suggests, I have a Nexus S i9023 (no root, perfectly clean) and the major problem is that i've upgrade the phone to ICS manually and now there are some things that don't work (recovery, light sensor, etc.). I know that there are a lot of threads like this, i know that the problem of the recovery is a problem of brightness, but i wanna know which ROM i've to flash. I'm using the build IML74K.
Another problem is that sometimes the keyboard freezes. Is it caused by the wrong build?
Which rom did you flash?
Try lastest version of ics
I'm using ICS 4.0.3, build IML74K, flashed manually.

I am using the same on my i9023 with no issues, only difference is I am rooted and have clockwork recovery. I suggest a re flash.
I'll try to re-flash the same ROM. If it won't work i'll root the phone and i'll flash CM9.
Anyway, how can i solve the problem of the keyboard? I don't think it's a problem of the build.
I've flashed the ROM for Nexus S i9023 two times but the problems still remain. Any suggestion?

Only thing I can suggest is installing clockwork recovery, rooting etc and flashing another rom to see if the problem persists, if so then it probably a hardware issue.
Also where did you get the rom your flashing? There is a thread in the general section with the full rom package I used. Its on the first page at the mo.
Ok maybe there's no solution (i'm new in this forum so i can't post link as the one below):
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23065&can=1&q=ics%20nexus%20s%20i9023%20recovery&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars
So I think it will be fixed in the next release. I ask confirmation if someone knows something.

Yeah that's the one, flash the full rom package. You may just have a corrupt .zip.

Recovery: Known problem. Backlight stays off. Nothing you can do without unlocking your bootloader or rooting. Angle + lamp will show you what is on the screen.
Light Sensor: It's still buggy. With the phone locked, cover your hand over the light sensor (left of the ear piece while facing the phone). Hand still covering, unlock the phone. After a few seconds, remove your hand and face it under a light source. What i've noticed is it'll get brighter initially but refuse to darken again. Of course, you need to have Automatic brightness adjustment (just in case it isn't set to auto).
Unsure about your keyboard problem though, but it does like to stay open for longer than i'd like after going back to the home screen.

Yeah, it remains open also after going back to the home screen, and it doesn't work. The only way is to crash it by going to the setting of the keyboard in the notifications.

Mine doesn't remain open though,. It just stays for say half a second, then animates away. Would be much more perfected if it went away while animating the previous window away, not a second later. I've not experienced the keyboard causing those kind of problems.
Might be wise to try SwiftKey or some other kind of keyboard alternative? That is easily enough to sway me away from stock.

If you have problems (like the recovery one and the light sensor) with ICS 4.0.3, build IML74K, on your Nexus S i9023 there's nothing you can do, probably Google will fix it on his next update 4.0.5.
I'll just add that many custom ROMs allow light sensor manipulation. I hear there are great, working settings, its just the stock calibration that sucks. I've not tried this myself, but should be available in cm9, cna, etc.

Just curious if anyone with the T Mo ON eS has noticed the lost of screen sensitivity after update to the latest OTA. I starts to notice that the screen is not as responsive. For example pinch to zoom requires a bit more force or larger movement. In maps it used to pinch to zoom very smoothly and quickly but now I have to really push the screen to register the gesture. Additoinaly, I noticed the screen sensitivity sometimes can be a bit whack like in the lock screen, it sometimes will not register the unlock and ended up clicking on one of the icons.

Not sure about updated since I never updated RUU, i just flash radio. Anyhow, touch screen hardly work on me especially letter E, S, & Z. If touch E, it input W or R, touch S, it input A or D, and touch Z it switch to CAP. This been happened for a few months now and finally I call T-Mobile today. They will exchange me another one.
Anyhow, could it be the custom ROM? I don't know. Some custom ROM work great, no issue at all and some ROM cause it. Currently, i'm on Virtuous Ville+ and it's cause the problem. But then my wife phone is ok and she on Virtuous Ville+.
I did went back to stock by using RUU_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.84 since that's what my phone came wiith... So could it be RUU_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.84 that cause the problem??
