First and foremost, I completely understand the battery reporting is inaccurate.
I, like most of the G2x users, have occasionally experienced excellent battery life and at other times barely lasted 5 hours. We all know this has to do with the LG battery drivers. I think I may have found a potential stop-gap fix though.
Another preface:I'm running CM7 nightlies.
Now, using SET CPU you can set a screen off profile that will underclock the cpu to be more efficient and save battery life, anyone worth their salt knows that. The other aspect of this that I have been doing is underclocking the CPU during normal usage. With min set at 312 and max at 760, I've gone 4 hrs and 13 minutes with 96% left. Even underclocked, this phone performs. The only issue I've noticed is a little bit of buggery with the lockscreen reactivating but honestly it's worth it to me to have a phone that lasts.
The issue is with the battery drivers, nothing else, your "fix" are just ways to increase battery life

I'm 90% positive that's what the big red lettering at the beginning of my post says.
I have the battery widget, and i see some strange spikes to nearly 400 mA, and when the screen is off it sometimes stays at 100+ at idle. The phone also gets noticeably warm. If you have usage statistics, please post a screenshot of your graph.
a lot of people experience this sort of behavior. have you tried doing a factory reset? thar corrected the issue for many users.
Battery Usage
I normally get around 2-5 mA usage when the phone is idle. On heavy usage and random use i get from 50-300 mA. Here is the graph.

Can you click the graph and post the one that says "usage".
Regarding the factory reset, I hadn't tried it, but I was on the gingerbread rom and I was experiencing the same thing.
I can't upload my own graph because it uploads in PNG, which is not accepted by the xda app.

Sometimes certain apps can be the culprit. The NFL app did this to my G2X and dropped the batter by 12% in 10 minutes. Not to mention it made my phone hot as hell. As soon as I deleted the NFL app everything went back to normal. By the way, mine idles at 1ma.
I dont think its any of my apps because I had the same set on the g2. But something is certainly wrong, as I'm down 27% in a hour and a half...

Damn, something is wrong. It doesn't matter if you had the same apps on your G2. It could be a app that was coded wrong and is not playing nice with the dual core CPU.

Do you have data turned off? I hardly get 8 hours of battery. I have followed several instructions from members of XDA to improve the battery life, but they've not helped much.
By the way, how should I read these mA units? What do they mean?
Thanks
I wonder how much juice the battery monitor uses while monitoring the battery...

If you hardly get 8hrs, it would be nice to know how you use your phone. What apps are running, how much txting, music, browsing, game playing, talking, etc. you do on a regular basis. Are you on wifi/wifi calling a lot? (you should be, it helps a lot). For instance, when you look at your battery status/usage, where is the 'display' at? Towards the top? Where is idle at? Towards the bottom?
People have done a factory reset to help this situation out. Some people I have talked to behind the scenes on bad battery use, they have admittedly been using their phone a lot.. One guy who was complaining a lot on the forums.. I talked to him behind the scenes "Well, I am txting all day. I'm a txting junkie." well duh. If the phone is being used constantly... 8hrs sounds about right.
But then again, there are others with legitimate problems. It's hard to tell the honest problems versus those that don't like the fact that their phone gets 8hrs when they are using it all day.. so they post to complain about battery life.

schmit,
Thank you very much for your help.
I have been using my phone more than I would normally use, since I have recently gotten it. However, I am confused whether the G2x is particularly bad in terms of battery life compared to other Android phones.
I am considering switching to a Google Nexus S. I have heard the battery seems to be good enough to hold a day with moderate/heavy usage. Has anyone tried out a Nexus S?
Sorry I moved out of topic a little, but I would like to know users' experiences, since this is my first Android phone.
I have some very high spikes. My battery life is also ****.
I just signed out of Google Voice earlier today. It appears that my battery life has improved greatly. Are many of you using this as well? If you can get away with not using it you may have the same experience.
How do I get to that battery graph?
So I've been having some weird battery drain the past couple of weeks. I have been trying to watch it and try to find the source of it but cannot seem to nail it down. I dont get that spectacular of battery life overall. First off, I am running zeus v6 with kl2 modem and nothing else done and no overclocking. Battery drain seems high overall, but above 50% battery its not too bad, however once it gets below about 50% battery the drain noticeably increases. Today for example, I unplugged my phone at about 8am, light usage pretty much all day, at 4 or 430pm it was about 50%, I get out of class at 7pm and the battery is down to 20%. Only thing I noticed was that I turned wifi on and left it on but it was connected to a network the whole time so its not like it was searching for a network. I had only about an hour of screen time, maybe a bit more. Its like this every day no matter what I do. I rarely get over 12hrs of battery life. I even got a new oem battery 3 or 4 weeks ago to see if that help but it hasnt much. I'm starting to wonder if it might be related to my phone that I just dont get as good of battery life? Not sure what to think, Im going to try flashing another GB rom in the next couple of days to see if that changes anything. I will post some screenshots of my battery life later tonight for you guys to look at. Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. Anyone else experiencing weird drain like this?

I had tried the two most recent versions of Zeus, and had unbelievably high battery drain. No WiFi or GPS use at all. If I was actively using the phone, my battery power would drop at roughly 1% every minute or two. And that's with screen brightness turned all the way down. Even with the screen off, it was pretty bad. I'd lose something like 7% an hour, with the phone sitting unused. I had basically the same results with Saurom. I pretty much just chalked it up to something within the ROMs themselves. I get great battery life with stock GB, CM7.2, and Paranoid Android JB.
I was reading that thread you posted qkster and it didn't really seem to be having the same issues as were in that thread. It's more just like no matter what I do the battery drains normally above 50% but below that it drains way faster even with less usage and not doing anything different.

My posts in that thread contained more links to other bigger threads and user experiences.
I was not offering a solution but only the means to one, if you are looking...
Alright, I'll look a bit deeper into that thread then and see what else I can find in there.

My nexus 5 last a long time on standby with the screen off (only drains like 2% per hour) but when I start using it the battery can drain as fast as 1% in 10 minutes or less. I do play some games but no intensely, and mostly in just on fb and internet. I have heard that the battery on this phone is pretty low for having such a fast processor, but is this normal? I took a screen shot of my battery so you can really see it plummets as soon as the screen is on. Please let me know what's going on and if I can fix it. Thanks
Firstly. You need more detail than just that graph. And secondly, yes using your phone will drain the battery

Boy howdy your post is sure helpful. I've been reported for less.
OP:
The n5 screen is very power hungry and inefficient. I can run WiFi tethering all day if I keep the screen off, but read a few articles online and battery plummets.
When I switched to CM12 my battery life got worse and my tablet now takes many hours to fully charge. I've had poor battery life before but this charging issue is new. I don't know how to troubleshoot the battery but I'm wondering ROM or bad battery?
EDIT: Also wondering why the screen has such high use. I do have it bright with a 2 min shutoff but I always have. This is a change for the screen to be consuming most of the resources. I have no idea how to compensate other than squinting at a dark screen. Could this be related to the reason it takes so long to charge?

I had the same problem ! It was actually the proximity sensor which sucks uo the battery . I will advice you to switch back to stock ! You battery will be back to life ! Almost all custom roms have this problem
