Promote a Website for File Hosting? - General Questions and Answers

I have a new website for hosting roms, just roms and only roms, and I wanted to know where I can talk about this and let the users know about it or if I can even pay to advertise it as a sticky. It's not one of those really bad and plain file hosts either, it's something new and different.

Developers tend to use their own hosting. Many offers for free hoasting have been made and in the end they are almost never used. Now you can get ahold of the admin and talk about the advertising prices if there are any.

Core Player 1.2
Is this a joke or what? This cost $29.99.
stupid thread.
The original link in the first post was pointing to a cracked version of Core Player. A Mod has edited the link to point to the official Core Player site.
Thread should be closed and removed. Warez is not alowed and this thread is dumb.
On the other hand, people post warez links here ALL the time by posting ROMs.
Beyond that many ROMs contain software that carriers/manufacturers need to pay for and people install these ROMs on phones that did not come with the corresponding software pre-installed.
Just because this software is not available as a seperate purchase and doesn't require activation/serial etc. doesn't mean that it's not "warez".
if u knew how to get free soda out of machine i'm sure u'd do it.
same idea with warez.

Ummm...people don't sell ROM's on here however.
why pay $30 when you can get it for free. the only people who are complaining are the ones who paid for it and now they feel dumb. and honestly it is overpriced anyways.
I'm gonna put my flamesuit on.
Feel dumb? Nah. I supported development of a program that takes advantage of features of my phone that HTC wouldn't give me and the CoreCodec team had to reverse engineer.
You're a criminal.
So no, I don't feel dumb, I feel like I spent my $21.99 wisely - that's what, about 15 minutes of defense lawyer time?

Because it is illegal. Duh!
It's called having morals and doing the right thing. Try it sometime.

So, did this guy try to sell a warez copy of CorePlayer? If not, I cannot see the relevance in your reply.
The Difference...
The Admin & Moderators spend a lot of time discussing this exact issue and there is a difference between Roms (and the software that is included in them) and cracked commercial software.
First, Cooked Roms allow us to customized our Operating Systems which we have a license to use. It's similiar to adding/removing features from our desktops OS except because of the embedded nature of our devices the process is more involved. Don't want Office Mobile the only wayto remove it is cook a Rom.
Second, usually the applications included in the Rom are not commercial applications. Here is GPS Tool or Quick GPS available for purchase? Even when a commercial application is included in a Rom it isn't a version that is commercially avaliable; look at the taster version of TomTom and Cyberon Voice Dialer/Commader. I belive that the version of Sprite Back-up included in the at&t Roms is also a different version which won't upgrade using the commercial versions.
We acknowledge that we are in a gray area legally and as such we have to be very stringent about what we do and don't allow. If we become a Warez site then XDA-Developers will surely close down or loose all of the good that it currently offers simply to provide Warez.
Also as a community of DEVELOPERS we are as a community against stealing from developers.
It is a fine line we walk but in the end it is up to you our forum members to help us walk this line or abandon us as we refuse to allow WAREZ.

You must be the same guy that thinks it's okay to take someones car when they leave the keys in it... ...cause you got the car for free
I did actually buy quite some software. But when it comes to playing videos I still use TCPMP instead of CorePlayer. And guess what, that's freeware!

You sir, are an IDIOT! I can get anything for free & I'm certain I know of more sources than you could ever dream of. That said, while there are certian thing that are limited trials, or have no trial version & I will usually download to test those. Just like SK Tools, which is a great app, so I PURCHASED IT.
Guess what, if everybody was a scumbag thief like you, developers would stop making the programs you use. So it's because of us so called "stupid" people, that you can even cheat the system. Think about it idiot! If everyone was stealing your $hit, you'd stop making it, right?
So think before you open your pie hole Jacka$$, I know that's hard for many people.
very well said!

Free and/or Cracked software for a Blackberry Curve

I don't know where esle to look, I STILL have me HTC Tilt and love it, but I also just bought me a blackberry Curve for my other line which is a backup phone and the phone is pretty good, but I can't seem to find any site that has cracked software or even good free software. I look all over, even are wm6 has sites that you have to pay for software but there is also sites like this (http://forum.xda-developers.com) that we have people willing to create a software so that the public can test and try it so the programer can get his props on his software. eeehhh I'm starting to hate this blackberry already because nobody is trying to help on there sites and just want you to buy, buy, and buy. See this is why I always stick to my Tilt. But if anyone one has any idea please let me know. If you don't want to be known you can even send me a "private messages". Thank You.
PS
Sorry if I sound like I'm ramblering, I just been searching for almost a week now.........
gsesson: we do not permit or facilitate the distribution of pirated software through this site.
If you are rich enough to buy two expensive phones, read a good magazine like www.pocketpcmag.com and get reviews, then download a trial, then use your wallet to support people who work hard to make your expensive phone worth the money.
Asking for warez is a bannable offence. You have been warned.

attn devs - give me your coffee links

Hey now.
So back in November I whipped up a simple page, dropped it on my server and bought a domain for it, blownfuze.org, and though it's still a single page with no pictures or advertisements, it's not so simple anymore. It's part guide part cab repository part entertainment and it's getting about five hundred unique IPs a day and climbing. But I wouldn't be getting those hits if it weren't for you developers.
Though I am not interested in donations or any other way to make money off of this site or just get enough scratch to have it pay for itself, and that is something I am confident that will remain the same even if I get very potentially lucrative traffic, I am interested, especially since I removed the password and said hello to google, in making absolutely certain that I am 1) not hosting warez, 2) not giving out free or shareware software against the authors' public instructions (unless I have permission), 3) that I cite at least the underdog developers' names and give thread links (IE touchresponse and lumos but not Google Maps) and now, and this is a new one, 4) that I give out "coffee" links to those developers who want them.
So I invite you to examine my site and look for something you or someone you know or respect designed or just passively peruse the thing and if you see anything that is in breach of 1, 2 and sort of 3 (3 is a bit of a gray area) and advise me either through pm or through the contact form at the bottom of the site if anything isn't kosher so that I can correct it.
For 4, the coffee links I want to put up, post them in this thread. Might as well make those public, right? You might get a donation from someone on this thread, you might get other guys like me out there to do what I'm trying to do. I could do that myself but it would take me many many hours, time I don't have. I should have done it from the start but it didn't occur to me and I didn't think I'd get enough traffic for it to matter.
Lastly if any of you developers see your work on my site, and if you made something badass it is either on my site or should be, and you're curious how many times it's been downloaded versus the rest of the traffic stats, I'll hook you up with that information. One of the perks of hosting this on my own machine.
I am grateful for your work, I truly am. All of you, even those of you whose applications I haven't put up [yet]. I've been having some fun with this thing; couldn't have done it without you.
Yours, Doug

Frustrated at lack of legal torrents available for ROM's!

I don't know if it's me, but am I the only one who's frustrated with the fact that there's hardly any ROM developers out there that offer options to download their ROMs via torrent sites.
The reason why I'm unhappy is that I wanted to download some ROMs to try out on my new Galaxy S4 and it seems that unlike the ones that were easy to download for my Galaxy SII, the ones that are available for the Galaxy S4 seem to be at least 1GB or more, which for those people who don't live in areas with fibre-optic broadband or have crap connections in general means that the download either doesn't get finished because it's taking too long to download or if by some miracle, it does get downloaded, it takes up to a day or more, especially if it's on a 2MB or less connection.
To all the ROM developers out there, please for the love of God, will you guys at least consider the option of making your ROM's available via sites like the Pirate Bay and Isohunt (And before anyone asks, yes, those sites deal with legal files as well!) as I can guarantee you that it will make a lot of people very happy indeed if they can download one a lot quicker via a torrent due to the huge amount of seeds that would be available as a result of people wanting to help others to download these files without difficulty.

So what you're basically saying to all those people who want to download huge-ass ROMs but can't because of their crappy connections is: "Tough ****!", am I correct?

VBulletin Website for Developers

For any developers, Teams, etc. I have a VBulletin website that has a lifetime membership at no cost. You would have to pay for hosting, right now I pay around $100 a year for that, with support and unlimited storage. The site is off line right now and I'm letting my hosting drop cause I can no longer pay because I'm not using it.
If you are interested, let me know, and I will be more than happy to help with the development of the site.
I ask nothing other than maybe learning something about custom rom's
Hit me up if you are interested. I am not trying to take anyone away from XDA, just offering a play to link your development and hosting.
