A stupid question but then again, i am a stupid person - HTC Sensation

I have seen this already on this forum but im too stupid to find it so here goes:
I would like to flash a custom rom now but then in a week/two weeks when htc rolls the official update to ics, id like to have the official htc update, how do i do that?

Just flash the official update when it comes out, it will fully wipe the phone and bring it up to date with all the latest HTC bells&whistles.

Just don't root stay on stock. Easy answer.

Or I suppose you could flash a custom ROM now, and then, when HTC releases the official ICS ROM, restore your nandroid backup of the original HTC Rom, restore the apps using Titanium Backup, and then update using the official HTC update (which will be OTA I guess?).
That would work right?

[Q] Backing up stock Rom (TMOBILE UK)

Right, got my replacement Sensation with Tmobile UK branded rom on.
Having found that there are no stock Tmobile roms about, I would rather back everything up before I root this time.
How do I do this?
Once done, I'm happy to share with everyone else so no one else has to go through the same prob in the future.
If there is a kind dev out there who can help me package everything up properly all the better!!
Thanks
S-OFF and then backup using CWM

Thanks for the interest but I want to create a virgin backup that can be used to get back to full stock, not to S-Off

Yes, that is why I want to create one as that thread has no Tmobile UK Roms
So is this not possible? I'm sure there used to be ways of dumping off images of yr phone. May have been back on the Kaiser though.
Is there a reason why we have have so manly stock ruus but no Tmobile UK?

Anyone? Surely a Tmobile UK stock ROM would be useful to the community?

[Q] Noob question: Flashing an OTA update via CW Recovery?

As the title says. I did a search & came across a Nexus S post that said: You can flash an OTA update but you will lose root.
Just wanted to know if this is true for the Sensation. Thanks in advance.

No it will not work for sensation.

Oh alright. Mind me asking why?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Because you need stock recovery to install OTA.

Because of the way stock recovery is setup, and the way HTC formats their update.zip files.

Oh so basically It's different from phone maker to phone maker. Thanks for ur replies!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Yes you can.
When downloading, select install later.
Some can then be installed simply by using CWM. E.g. the latest security update.
Others, you need to put the stock recovery on first. See here.
Install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip in CWM again to get root back.

[Q] Can't install official updates after root

I successfully rooted my phone some time ago...
I'm on stuck ROM 2.3.4 - unbranded, unlocked - European version.
Now there is an update available for the phone. Its the Twitter update. However I can't install it.
I think it something to do with stock recovery, right?
Have you cleared data from market? Also what version of the market do you have? What does it say when you try to install
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Its not an update from the Market. Its a system update.
SOLVED (how can I change the title?)
How did you solve it?

Very important question for my sensation

Hello my friend I have HTC sensation and I heard that HTC company will provide this module upgrade OS from android 2.3.4 to ice cream sandwich
But. I have problem that I have s-off and I have rooted my phone in this case the I loose the warranty
Dose I can upgrade my phone to this new OS or the HTC company will drop my phone and will not send the upgrade to me ???
Please if any one have the answer help me

If you are rooted just flash an ICS rom, there are plenty out there for the Sensation. Most stable I've used is the Darkforest one, didn't require any fiddling, just flashed and worked without a problem. If you need to have your phone repaired then you can always return it back to it's original kernel/radio/rom, I remember seeing a thread on here somewhere for it.

You have 2 options:
1. Flash custom ics rom as per above suggestion. Read and use sticky thread in development forum.
2. Restore phone to official rom via RUU, then wait for the official ota update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
In my opinion 1 is the only sensible choice. More features, earlier releases, better support via xda and from specific forums.
Totally agree, custom roms add many more features and are updated every few weeks where needed. Can't say the same for HTC
R u mean that when I root my phone the offical ROM will be changed
..... Sport but I don't understand u
May be I am not experience licked you ...

No you can root and leave official rom unchanged.
All the custom roms are pre-rooted.

Does i need wait for ota update

So I'm new on sensation, before was using desire s so. Do j need to wait for update from htc or here is some stabile ice????

I am using blitz 7 with aosp mod and it seems super stable with decent battery life. However, it's really up to you to determine what is best for you.
Using XDA premium, you should be too!
You may as well wait, then decide if it's what you want.

As far as i know, some roms doesn't require to have super cid (tmobile sensation roms..). But if you have super cid on your phone, you can flash any roms you want.
I have europe sensation, without carrier branding.

You'll get updates OTA, or look at htcelevate.com if there are any RC updates to stream to your phone using FOTA.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Forum Runner.
Depends on you, really. I'm waiting for the official ICS update from HTC, and if I'm not happy with it I'll probably flash AOSP or the custom Sense 4 ROM (if HTC doesn't include Sense 4 in the update)
I did flash ics without sense
