The other day my gf was looking at pics in the gallery and according to her she swiped to the left and the next pic was black. She swiped again and nothing happened. She hit the back button and nothing happened. She hit the back button a few more times and ir brought her back to the main gallery screen. Amazingly the new pic she had just taken were not in the gallery anymore. All other pics were tho. So I snatch the phone from her to see what's up. Turns out I can view those pics she lost with astro but not the stock gallery. I also found out that when I get a call or a msg mt phone only vibrates now. I went to set the tone for msging and all my tones were gone. Again they are there if I browse with astro but ringsextended etc shows nothing. Any ideas wtf happened here?
Btw im using assonance 5.2
For reference I have tried rebooting, pulling the battery and rescanning the media.

Try downloading "rescan media root" from the market and press re-enable media scanner, then wait for the media scanner to finish and try looking in the gallery again.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I actually had that app long before this happened. I tried scanning but it didn't help. I uninstalled it thinking it might be the problem but that didn't work either. Could it be an internal sd problem? Maybe a reflash is in order here? Id rather not but if that's my only choice then so be it.

Well, the only other thing I can think of now is maybe converting your filesystem to rfs if it's on ext4 or vice versa, if that doesn't work, I can't think of anything else.

Im using assonance 5.2 so what ever file system comes with that is what im on. I thought all custom roms changed the file system to something better (ext4?) than the stock system. I have had this rom for a good while now with no probs. What would cause my file system to go haywire out of nowhere like that? I can set ringtones and notifications with astro but they dont soundoff when
I get a call or a text. I can set an alarm tone with astro and it DOES SOUNDOFF when the alarm goes off. Whats up with that? Alarm tones work but no ring/text tones...

I believe most ROMs do change your filesystem, I'm not certain serendipity does.

I had this happen once. Visible in file explorer but not in gallery. Stock 2.1 update1 at&t no root, no nothing...
Fortunately for me but maybe unfortunately for you the problem fixed itself after reboot... Maybe it took a couple.
If u mount the phone to ur pc, is everything visible? If so, I would do this:
1. Backup ur media to the pc
2. Grab another gallery.apk file from another rom and using root explorer or super manager, overwrite the apk.
3. If that doesn't work, reflash the Rom - at least everything is backed up

Weird. I just grabbed a screeny with shootme and my gallery came back. What's weirder is that I moved all pics from phone to pc the other day and *thought* I deleted them from the gallery too. Either im an idiot or something real strange has happened. Thanks for the suggestions.

Are you referring to media hub? If so, you can freeze or uninstall it.
Wow, this just jumped up for me as well. For the last day and a half my battery life has been brutal. This morning I'm down 16% in 45 min. despite not using my phone.
Looks like two apps are the culprits: Media and Media Server. Can anyone tell me how I can determine what is forcing these to run?
I thought I could correlate it to installing a free Amazon talking book, 'cause after installing it this weekend my media server never seemed to shut off and I had to reboot to kill it. But I uninstalled the app last night with no improvement.

Looks like some have had success removing all media files from their SD cards. Doing this piecemeal sounds pretty daunting to me - seems like every app folder and subfolder has at least images in it. Think I'll wait til next time I flash to start fresh. If this battery drain keeps up it will probably be in the next couple hours

Next up I'm gonna wipe 3x, then dalvik wipe, then reflash. ARRRRGH!

Haven't used Odin on this SR (it's a two-week old replacement). I've only used Odin in the past to remove root. I'm at a loss here. I've formatted my ext. SD, wiped my phone numerous times, flashed 3 different ROMs today, and restored every app one-by-one so that I don't restore the data. Still media server runs like a top.
Is there a way to use Odin that's faster than removing root and starting over? I gotta fix this - I can't last 4 hours on a battery.

I know what you mean. Have you tried running fix permissions in rom manager? You have to install busybox from the market first, though.

Huh. I was having a similar problem, and moving all the files from the internal sd card to my computer fixed it. And then I read somewhere that fix permissions would work too. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. Good luck!

This has been an issue for a long while but its frequency seems to have increased now. Basically it happens randomly and only if picture is taken with flash. I have experienced it on both stock jelly bean ROM and cm10. I don't remember it being an issue on ICS or GB. My phone is not over clocked and the issue does not seem to be affected by kernel.
My gf also has a nexus S and same thing happens with her. We both have the i9023. Her phone is completely stock and not rooted.
This problem is also not limited to the stock camera app as I have experienced it with camera zoom fx as well.
Anyone else with the problem? Do you think its a potentially hardware issue with nexus S?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I think your problem has something to do with your batter. This is my theory because whenever you try to take a picture with flash on a faulty, or non-calibrated 3rd party batter, the phone shuts off. Try this: take out the batter, plug your phone in to AC, and take a photo with flash. Let me know what happens

What is a third party batter? I am not using any "third party" thing. :S
And this problem isnt easy to reproduce since it doesnt always happen. It just randomly happens and I can go on taking several pictures with flash without a problem. Actually what I have noticed is that it will happen on the first or second click in a session or it wont happen. If the phone shuts off and upon reboot I immediately take a pic with flash then it will shut down again but if I give it a break then it wont.
Yeah, the same thing here. Must be a 4.2.1 issue. Happened to me on 2 different roms. I never take that many photos, but happened a week or so and didn't think about it. But today needed the flash for Christmas pictures and every time I used the flash the phone shut off and I had to power back up. What rom are you on?

It's the cheap battery
My phone switches off when I take picture with flash but only if I'm using the cheap battery which i ordered with spare charger. Hi, I have 2 problems which I cannot find the answer on XDA.
First, I have 2 unlock screens for CM7.
I have the slider lock, which then go to the pattern lock.
I only want the pattern lock.
Second, I have the old android market, not the new one I had before I flashed CM7. Is there a difference?
Anytime I download a new app, it says "Packaged file not signed correctly cannot complete" or something along those lines. I searched how to fix this and it said to use Titanium backup to uninstall the app in question and reinstall. Well.... I don't have facebook installed and it says cannot complete. Any suggestions? Maybe try a new Gapp?
Can anyone link me to a better Gapp than the 2.3.7 Gapp on Goo.im
when you originally flashed cm7 did it take you through the Google account setup? Where it asks for your gmail account and it syncs all your info? I had a similar problem when i first flashed cm7 but i didn't have the market or playstore installed AT ALL lol. I would recommend deleting the gapps and downloading a fresh one. Do a complete wipe in cwm and reflash everything in this order.
1.rom.
2. Kernel if you want, recommend mazouts latest oc kernel runs great.
3. Baseband fix zip file.
4. Gapps.
This should fix the issue.

Lol. Ok and also does your phone ever overheat? i have the extended battery thing you know and my phone keeps freezing then going to the LG screen and just staying there occasionally. prolly every few hours it does that and i have to take the battery out
The only problem i experience over heating issues is when I'm using wifi calling over a crappy wifi connection. For some reason when it loses connection while its asleep, the phone falls into a sleep of death or SOD. so when i press the power button nothing happens, screen wont turn on the phone starts to heat up ans drain the battery like no other. I have to remove battery and reboot phone to fix. Does not happen often and only when using wifi calling over a crappy network

Since there isn't an official thread for Q&A for CM 10.2 I figured there should be one, so I'm making one. Here we can list out bugs, issues, ask questions, etc. without cluttering or thread hijacking with other Android 4.3 projects (like what was happening to the CM10.1 and beanstalk threads).
I am testing the first official nightly and have discovered the following bugs/issues:
1. After setting up my phone and installing all my apps/etc, it will only boot about half the time. (major bug) I am having to hold power and vol - and pray it will boot THIS time lol I don't have anything exotic on my phone just apps downloaded from the play store. This may have something to do with the CM10.2 theme I am using. **Is more stable using 9-27 nightly and 6.0.3.8 CWM**
2. Screen will often not wake when power button is pressed when the phone is already on. (known issue)
3. Speakerphone mutes mic, you can hear them but they can't hear you (known issue)
4. For me the initial CM setup froze and hot booted (minor issue) ***Should be fixed as of 9-27 nightly, need to confirm still***
5. Compass, etc isn't working properly (known issue).
6. Dark theme for mms.apk (I don't think this has ever worked right...)
7. Selecting 'details' on an image in gallery crashes gallery. **Fixed as of 9-27 nightly**
8. Intermittent issues with the camera. Sometimes it will not start up.
What works:
Camera/Video (and you can finally select the sd card to store these files using the default camera) **having intermittent issues with the camera using the latest nightly**
Data/Phone (using any ICS blaze radio or the UVMC6 sgs2 radio)
Pretty much everything else works flawlessly...
If anyone else has anything to report, or as these issues are resolved, I will edit this post to keep anyone wondering what works/doesn't work with the official 10.2 nightlies where we are.
Also feel free to ask/answer questions related to CM 10.2 here

The initial setup screen froze after I pressed next and hot booted, but worked flawlessly after that.
I changed my theme and rebooted and it would not boot past the Samsung screen. Power and vol- and it rebooted and actually booted. Seems like anything from the system folder being changed will cause some serious issues from what I'm seeing... Even if its just changing the theme. IDK if that's just something with 4.3 but I could modify a ton in the system folder in cm10 and it would boot just fine.

Which recovery and which gapps are you using? I'm using the 2013-08-13 gapps from here.

Cool. Thanks.
I noticed my light sensor acts a little reversed.
In well lit areas or outside during the day, I can barely see my screen because the brightness is too low.
At night time, the screen is the brightest it can be.

I haven't done a clean wipe when I noticed it but then I decided to do a clean wipe and it still happens.

So far the only issue I've seen is the camera wigs out. So do other camera apps I install from the market. When I'm in the camera app the screen freaks out almost kinda like how the tv would flip out back in the day when you were flipping the slide switch from the RF adapter to put your tv in game or antenna mode when playing an atari or something.
It also says, "you must insert an SD card" but I have one in, and it works. So I dunno.

I haven't had the SD card message but I have had intermittent issues with the camera not starting up. I'm going to add it to the issues list on the 1st post and get a log in the dev section later tonight.
It seems that once the camera won't start up you have to force close the gallery or use the lock screen functionality to start the camera to get it to come back up again.

Well, I think my SD card issue is actually related...to my SD card.
It works, but man the write speed on the thing is SLOOOOOOOW. Even if I take it out and put it directly into my computer, it takes forever to write to it now. No idea why, but I guess I'm having bad luck with these things. I always bought cheap SD cards before, but ever since I bought this 64gig card (back when they were like $150) I've had nothing but trouble...Sandisk has replaced it twice now!
