Gps problem - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

When I use running apps like runtastic and others it takes a long time until the satellites see my device. Anyone knows how to solve it?

It is not necessary, but it makes the reading more accurate. Especially if you're indoors.

I tried wipping dalvik cache. I think it works better. Thanks a lot m.kochan10.

Sorry to threadjack, but does anyone have problems using GPS?
I can't even get a signal with a clear view of sky waiting for 2min ++

I had the same problem with my '"out of the box" sgr. Sometimes it took 7-10 minutes before I managed to lock some satellites. Problem disappeared when I re-installed FW. From this moment - 20 sec - 1 min max!
wipe dalvik cache (It always helps when I flash/restore very often.) it this doesn't work do a full wipe or even re-install your FW and then do a factory reset.

Maybe try GPS Test? Its help me alot when I try to find myself on google maps. Without this app its take much more time to see me by satellites.

GPS test does not help for me
I have the exact same problem. GPS test does not help at all for me. It shows 5-9 satellites constantly, none "In use"
Will try wiping Dalvik cache.

Nopes, wiping Dalvik cache does not improve anything.
Will wipe cache/data while installing InfectedV2.

hi, try enable data connection via mobile internet (for A-GPS).
so gps use at the beginning data connection to find satellites faster. (very low traffic
)
If i enable data and gps, i get my gps signal within 5-10 seconds. When disapled, i have to wait long time

Wipe dalvik cache helped me a lot but it could be better. What is FW?

Firmware

Well, I installed a new firmware (Infected V2). Now the situation is better. I can get cold lock (GPS lock without A-GPS) within 30 seconds.
Now doing a restore from Titanium Backup. Let's see if that screws things up again or not. I know that using wireless networks can improve the performance, but I am not quite comfortable with the idea because most of the time I don't use mobile data plans.

Where I can get Infected rom V2?

It is a test build though, and Camera is not working. But everything else is freaking awesome!

Thanks for this tip. I also had a lot of problem with the gps-fix, and it got even worse, so i thought i just might try it as i have to restore it anyway before sending it to service.
And it worked like a charm, locks so quick now, amazing...

(Q) Interesting GPS Problem

Using:
AT&T's updated radio (see sig).
Corresponding RIL.
AngelDeath's Northeast v1.2.
GPS Status app with WiFi to download the AGPS data.
Problem:
GPS locks on fine the first time (within 10 meter accuracy in under 20 seconds) but after locking on, it becomes very inaccurate (200+ meter accuracy), and eventually loses all signal (shows no location). GPS status app shows I still have lock on with the satellites however... and it's usually more than 7 satellites.
Any guesses on what's going on and how I can fix this?
*EDIT* Yes, I am in the northeast (NY).
I was having the same issue as you on CM7 till last night. I'm not sure if the new radio and ril corrected it trying a "workaround" that was discovered to get GPS workng on the Aria.
The procedure is as follows:
Nandroid your current setup.
DL and flash any sense rom(I used CoreDroid V6), don't bother w/ the whole setup process just get it up to where you can use maps. Once there, open maps and get a lock. I also did the same w/ GPS Status after flashing the script by Angel Death as well as the ril for the newest ATT radio.
After the lock is obtained, boot to CWM via ROM Manager and restore your previous setup that you made earlier. I chose to make a nandroid of CD V6 at this time too as a safety net.
Once the restore is finished, I reflashed the ril and script after the first boot from the restore process. After flashing those two items, my GPS is rock solid and accurate to 3 meters via GPS Status and generally locks in about 5-7 seconds.
YMMV but it certainly won't hurt to try. If it does, it'll confirm my suspicion of which part(Radio-ril combo or rom flashing) fixed the issue. I suspect that since you're using the latest radio-ril that it's the latter.
Lemme know,
Tx

Based on my experience, radio-ril combo is the most likely, with a little ntp settings thrown in as well.
That's what was required to get GPS on the aria.

Do a full wipe in ClockworkMod, not ROM Manager. Format system, data, cache, and dalvik that way.

I'm indoor, but leave the phone outdoor at the balcony for ~5 minutes, and check back to see if it's locked on.
The fact that it's not even seeing one satellite... wth?
*EDIT*
I re-flashed the AT&T's updated radio, and re-flashed the corresponding RIL (basically followed these directions), unto the freshly installed Inspired Ace.
Going to try to leave the GPS Status app on and leave it for ~5 minutes outdoors.

Go all the way outside with an unobstructed view of the sky. Sometimes it can take quite a while for first lock, even first satellite acquisition. I've personally seen over 300 seconds. Also, download fasterfix from the market and change your time pool to north america. It may be set to asia by default.
If not, i know of one other step to take. Install attn1's 1.84 Froyo ROM and see what happens.

Sigh, this time I waited like 10 minutes (I did install fasterfix after you mentioned it), and I came back to 0/0 fix/satellites :/.
Going to just restore my backup, and do a flash of the radio and RIL (like it stated in that post I linked), and just hope for the best...

[Q] ICS 4.0.4. Keeps searching for gps

Just got OTA update to 4.0.4. Was using 4.0.3 previously. After updating, my GPS has stopped working. When using google maps or navigation, it keeps saying searching for GPS constantly.
I have cleared the davlik cache once and reset data and cache for maps and latitude etc. Will a factory reset help? Please give suggestions. Thanks.
Is your phone rooted? Then try to edit your gps.conf (can be done with apps like FasterGPS or FasterFix). That will help the a-GPS by locating via mobile network and/or WLAN. For that, you also need to enable Google's location service.
Without that assistance your GPS fix takes longer.
My phone is not rooted. I can root it, but is there a way to solve the gps issue without it? It worked fine before the 4.0.4 update. Thank you for the suggestions sir.
But you have already activated Google's location service? Then you should at least be able to get a coarse location.
Also, make sure that the device has free sight to the sky! If I remember correctly, sometimes it might help, to remove the battery cover for a faster fix. Perhaps you try this first.

Coarse location is available man but without GPS navigation doesnt work.
Okay, I just wanted to know to exclude a very long fix because of missing assistance for GPS...
I would try to deactivate google location service, remove the back cover and wait outside for some time to get a fix.
If the phone still gets no GPS, you can try to reflash 4.0.4 without wiping before doing a factory reset. Most stuff related to GPS should be in the system partition that isn't touched by factory reset (only data and USB storage).

This happened to me before.
This happened to me once, it turns out, my ex installed a spyware app, to find my location and read my text messages and call logs. Lol

wtf is wrong with my gps---- it thinks im in nevada

Guys , i have done the flash for the GPS fix like 3 times...I have wiped my phone clean , and did a fresh install of ics 2 times. It still thinks I'm in Mesquite nevada. I'm in FT LAUDERDALE FL... help!!!!!
Has anyone fixed this?
My GPS is acting the same way eversince I updated to ICS.
GPS takes long time to lock. My advice is to turn on Location Services as well as GPS.
It's funny that Maps don't work but if you switch to Navigation, it works fine (after a long wait).
I don't want to use wifi to find me. I want to use the gps. This sucks the big one..

Clear data and cache from maps. Clear data from google services frameworks. If that doesn't fix it try GPS Aids from market. It has a GPS doctor button that has fixed this problem on my old phone.

This. The problem stopped entirely once I deleted Maps and started using alternative mapping apps instead.

2 things to try... I had TERRRRIBLE gps status on cm10 when, and the agps fix didnt really change it (it said I was in Africa)
make sure that in the location settings you have: use internal gps selected.
and install gps status from the play store.
open it> press menu>> select mangae agps state>>> select download>>>> then reset
reboot
I've been lazy with the AGPS patches so I've been using FasterFix:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Double.FasterFix&hl=en
I still get 3-5m accuracy.
Ya the agps patches only worked for me once. I remember on gb GPS was amazing. It kinda sucks not being able to use my phone for a GPS now

I've been reading up and there seems to be no fix for it on stock 4.0.4. I may just go to the att store and tell them to give me a new phone whose GPS actually works.

No GPS fix with latest Maps 8.0 update!

Is anyone having issues with the latest version of Maps? I can't get a gps fix with this version. I have tried wiping cache/dalvik.
GPS sees satellites but cannot get a fix, when I uninstall 8.0 and revert to 7.4 everything works fine!
I'm stock rooted 4.4.2 nothing out of the ordinary, running a few Xposed modules but nothing pertaining to GPS.
Any ideas?
I bet you've rebooted since having gps working and not?
Just reboot again and maybe again... Mine does it. It's like sometimes the gps control doesn't load properly at the start

There is a chance your GPS antenna is no longer making proper contact. If that is the case, your options are a fairly simple DIY fix that would void your warranty, or RMA for a new device.
If you are rooted I can say that using FasterGPS might be able to fix your issue as it changes the GPS tables to closer locations. Not sure why upgrading to a new Maps version would break GPS, but its free and you can definitely try it.

GPS Issue

I've tried rebooting my phone and clearing the dalvik cache and still no luck. I'm running 33R and I place my phone's GPS in High Accuracy mode but when I pull up Google Maps directions my phone never locks onto my location.
Anyone else having this same issue and/or solved this issue?

Try outside of building. For diagnostic puposes, use GPS Status & Toolbox or GPS Test from Google Play. If you can "see" the satellites, your hardware is fine.

I just got a response from Oneplus tech support that said "Try a factory reset, if that doesn't work try a hard reset.".
They told me the same solution for the last issue I had. I'm beginning to think that tech support only sends out that "solution".

Oh thank you, I'll try that.
The GPS module is intended to work ONLY in open space, it must "see" the sky. Sometimes, if you are away from big buildings or mountains, it should work inside near the windows. But the rule is the device should "see" the sky.

I have read somewhere, here or in official forum from oneplus site, that someone has similar problems due to an app (a keyboard or something like this) which has apparently nothing to do with GPS. Try to install/reinstall your apps and meanwhile test your GPS with GPS Test or GPS Status & Toolbox. Anyway, I'll try to search the thread and if I'll find it, I'll tell it here.
---------- Post added at 12:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
I've forgot to tell.. If you use GPS Status & Toolbox, in Settings>GPS & Sensors, activate Auto-download AGPS data on the smallest interval (1 hour). Now it should work quicker.
---------- Post added at 12:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:25 PM ----------
Find it... Read here all thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/gps-problems-oneplus-one-t2816004/page3
Also read post number 30 about an app called "dragon dictation". Could be something similar. That's why is better to install/uninstall apps.
