[Q] Display going bad on my Infuse 4G

Hi to all this morning,
I spoke to the local AT&T manager about my phone. The lock screen numbers and letters are "burned" on to my screen. Every time I go to a "light backround, I can see the month, time and "phone locked". The manager told me to call AT&T service. I called the 800 number and was told I have to do a "hard reset" on my phone for the warranty procedure. I have an "unlocked", "rooted" phone. Will a hard reset unroot and lock my phone?
Do I have to "unroot" and "lock" my phone before calling them back?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before u return the phone to store, I would strongly recommend restoring to how it was when you got it (stock).

How do lock and unroot?

Look for gtg back to stock or h8's back to stock. They both utilize Odin. Just read the op and you should be fine. Let me know if I can help.

Trying to unroot and lock my phone using gtg

I do need your help. I downloaded the app you suggested and tried several times to use it. Here is my problem.
My computer connects via usb for mass storage an media on com port 9
I have downloaded all the latest usb drivers for Windows Visa. When I use the procedure suggested by gtg, the com port does not show up in the Comm ID box. I have tried and re-tried several time with the same result.
Can you help??
My display is getting worse every day.

I assume that you are using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251 one.
I had to use this a whole bunch of times when I just started flashing and though it worked really well the first time after that it started to not work as well. Switch your USB ports that you plug your phone into. This will make it show up in a different are other than just COMM 9. If you cannot get it to work in any USB try a different computer, leave it sitting there for a long time. I don't think that it really had anything to do with my eventual sucess but after just leaving the battery out and the cord plugged into nothing made it work. Just telling you my experience. I hope that you are able to figure out what is wrong and flash back to stock before your screen gets any worse!

So you tried to odin back to stock and it doesn't work?

More questions,
It did not seem like it wiped everything off. auto reboot was checked and fast reset was checked.
first block on top left is green and says passed time 4.49

Just wanted to says thanks. I plugged the phone into my laptop and it worked. Now I am fighting with AT&T to get it returned. They seem to think a display hardware issue is a software/virus issue. Thanks I got it to work with your help!!

No problem. Glad that I could help. And do push the issue. Right to the manager if they still won't take it. Or you could try calling them and eventually you will find one rep who is willing to push it through. Either they will be dumb and don't know what they are doing or they will know where you are coming from and help get it returned. If not, and you are still under warranty you might be able to send it back to Samsung and see what they will do about it. Good luck!

i believe if its under 30 days they take it back on the spot and exchange it for you.. if not they might ask you if you have insurance on you phone and send it out to a authorized ATT repair store... just my expierience...

Try to connect it via USB and see if
Odin recognizes it. It sometimes doesn't matter if download mode isn't literally displayed on screen, Odin would still be able to flash.
after connecting it, try to power it on and stay alert on what Odin displays.
Also make sure your battery is not completely depleted.

I've also read where others had a similar problem with it not powering on or anything. A few had success after leaving the battery out for ~24 hours (not sure it has to go that long, but why not?) and putting it back in. Then they were able to get it into download mode.
As Mikeflash said, some phones will be in an ODIN-recognizable mode even though the screen is totally black.

well as for me i tried that already also and nothing happened, i dont have money for a jig i've seen people do it with 3 100k resistors and tape but im not sure if thats safe or if it even works, tmobile said they would send me a replacement for it. but i dont want to wait that long and if they see that i tried to rom the phone then im sure i wont get it back.

Simply Honey isn't a ROM for this particular phone; which is why it's goofed. It probably loaded up the i9000 boot loaders.
Maybe give Raver's guide a shot?

the first option looks like a good but i dont get a sound when mine connects and the second option i dont think i know anyone with that type of solder or flux and what they know what they are doing. but thanks anyways

well its not actually rooted does that change anything?

If you'd like to send the device to me, I can perform the mod for $30 + shipping (usually $6 in USA) . Personally, I don't think its right to return a device that you've damaged. This is my main reason for creating UBM. It keeps me and others honest.

try using a jig, it works for me every time, i bought it off ebay for 2 bucks + free shipping and works great (hav used it about 20 times) good luck!

I was in the same situation and what i did is removed the battery for 2 minutes and reinserted it and inserted 301K ohm resistor jig to my phone and pressed vol down + Enter + Power on = Voila i was in downloading mode

I bought a jig it doesn't even work

first of all I'm going to say I'm not all that new to this. and i have read through the forums and i don't see anyone with this exact problem (or even close)
My problems is getting into download mode.
I was using ZEUS' latest ROM and loving it but decided to reflash from stock because data wasn't working. pulled up Odin on my desktop *which was the first time i used it for anything but transferring files* got into download mode and was re-flashing with GTG's unbrick. it was on system.sysfs (i think?) and it stopped and replaced the yellow connected With a red box with FAIL. Thinking it was FUBAR i unplugged it and tried to boot up (still in download mode i used power- and power.) aaand nothing.
Now after 15 minutes of different Button combination, computers, and usb ports i don't know what to do.
When i plug the phone in and hold down vol+- and power and put in the battery i get nothing...
Am i SOL or can i get a Jig to fix it?
Also how do i make a jig?

Try leaving the power button out of your mix.
Remove battery
Hold down volume + and -
Insert battery
Insert USB

If nothing works, pm me and ill give you the information for 40 bucks you can save an infuse, even if you try turning it on, and you get absolutly nothing.

Its not me, lol. I can not do such a thing. Im just trying to help. The people who do this service is mobiletechvideos.com. They restored my broken infuse back to new (with a broken usb port, but was broken before) i could not save it from a brick. If he can not get it to boot, or connect to a computer or something, ill give him the info to send it to them and get it fixed. Its legit too, worked for me.

i just downloaded the "one click unbrick" by Adam Outler from here

and it says it needs download mode.. which i cant get to..... I know about JTAG and that is the only thing i have heard about so far that seems to be able to fix it.....
*Just read about Adam Outler's Unbrickable mod he made. I am so mad at myself right now. >.>

Here try to leave thye batter out overnight then try to get into download mode if not then let it die and plugit up to a charger then try to get into download mode

It could be saved
I met a highly similar situation before and I solve it as I was about to post a post for help.
I disconnected during the dl mode recovering the system and couldn't turn on.
Try:
Pull the battery out for a while.
Assure that your battery is charged and have more than 50% juice.
I tried all combination but it didn't help, after 2 hours it could return to dl mode again.
Hope this could help you.

Assuming the thread is back open (one month without activity is considered a dead thread on this forum right?) I have seen all the advice about the battery. well I had one of my dad's friends have a cracks at it. Here's the thing. It does not do ANYTHING! The screen doesn't turn on, charging indication on screen, when it's plugged into the computer (win7) it flashes up "Device recognized" then it's gone. The actual phone is completely gone. No movement you could say.. I don't have a jig to try but I think I might just try the jtag from somewhere earlier in this thread.

im having the same issue, i think i bricked my phone and i cant get into download mode ive tried all the combinations and stuffs posted in others thread but ive not been able to solve anything.. please help!

I used mobile tech videos and they were very fast. I had the phone back and working in less than a week!

In order to use Heimdall Adam Outlers One Click you need to setup the phone as download mode, but that's the problem, the phone won't even go to that mode. If you know how to do it without that mode, really will be appreciated

[Q] HELP!!!!! My Infuse is Jacked!!!!!

OK so i just came back from a deployment and heard there was an update to gingerbread software from the stock froyo. I read up a little on it and decided to give it a try. I do not do a lot of builds, custom roms, or things like that on my device, so my knowledge level isnt that great. I downloaded Kies Mini and was performing the upgrade and my computer just shut off in the middle of it. My phone is now jacked. All it will do when i turn it on is display a ton of dots. My phone looks like a christmas tree. I tried holding down the volume buttons and plugging it into the USB cord, and still nothing but dots. I tried the hard reset by holding the volume buttons, turning it off, and releasing the power button and still nothing. Is there anyway to fix this?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Does the computer recognize the phone when you have it plugged in? If not, the simplest things to try are different USB ports, different cords or different computers.
Beyond that, it gets more complex. If the computer does recognize the phone, did you try this way - unplug the usb, turn off the phone, hold down the volume keys and plug the phone back in? If so and you still had the dots, it is possible you're still in download mode and can still try to finish the download.
Otherwise, you may have to go to GTG Unbrick, Heimdall or Odin.

Yes as long as your screen can display something, there's a chance to fix it.

OK, so now when i turn it on, the screen is just white. It is not pixelated anymore. Im not sure if my computer recognizes it or not. It does not show up on my computer anywhere but when i connect my phone to it with the usb cord my computer makes the sound like something was just connected. I opened Odin 3 v1.7 and in the ID:COM box it says 0:[COM15]. Now what do i do?? Thanks for the help. Sorry i am not android saavy!!!

bigjoe- Thank you. I am going to try putting a custom rom in it. Im not sure how to do it yet. i found some info on MIUI or something. It looks pretty cool. I am going to try the heimdall one click to restore it. Hopefully it works.

Just follow the instructions to the letter on any custom rom you decide to try and you should be ok. And you can always find helpful folks here. Welcome back, thank you and have fun flashing - it gets addictive.

Yerp like stated follow the op of your ROMs choice...but use the methods I provided to get there and you will be fine....just pop a flare if you get into trouble....

[Q] Unpleasantness... Bricked phone?

So, while I'm no expert I'm not new to rooting and flashing. Did it quite a bit on my older Droid Inc 1, and have performed a few on my new SG3.
I have 3 backed up ROMs on my SD, Synergy, Beans and CM10. I was running Synergy and decided to give CM10 another shot to see if I could figure out what was killing NFC. So, flashed it up with ROM Manager (Used Odin previously) and everything went swimmingly. ROM was running, NFC was working, all my apps were reinstalled, no problems.....
Decided to see if I could get Wallet working on this install, so flashed it in, made the changes to build.prop and rebooted.
Heeerreeee's where the trouble started. Part way through the reboot the phone just shut down. Completely. 100%. Dead.
I had 87% battery when I started so it 'shouldn't be a battery problem. No power, no LED when I plug in the charger, no vol-up, home, power to get into recovery.
One interesting thing did happen while I was trying to get the phone up, I removed the battery for a bit, and plugged the USB cable in and got a red charging light. Put the battery back in, light still there. 1 minute later, light goes off and still nothing happening with the phone at all.
Anyone have any ideas beyond all the stuff I've given a shot to?

Will it show up when plugged in on your CPU?

Unfortunately not. Only thing that seems to show up is in the device manager, a QHSUSB_DLOAD device that's banged.

Well, I called Verizon and they've shipped me a replacement. I guess throwing all my bit and pieces into a new main body should work fine...

Oh no. Another one sending a phone back because of rooting. That's why they lock bootloaders.

Have you tried borrowing someone's battery to see if you can also least boot? I have four samsung batteries for the S3 and would consider sending it to you before getting a replacement. I think the cost of a battery is $3 on Amazon.

The reasons were different but i had the same thing happen to me, my phone wouldn't boot, wouldn't show up in the computer. Nothing, i tried my wife's battery, no change there either. I left it on the charger overnight and tried turning it on in the morning and after messing with it it came back on. Haven't had an issue since. Don't know what caused it, the phone just freaked out, turned off and wouldn't turn back on.
You can also try the resistor trick to see if that will bring your phone back. Here is a cheap way to do it.
http://hackaday.com/2012/09/03/saving-a-bricked-phone-with-a-pencil-lead/ Otherwise you can go to radio shack and pick up a resistor.
If Verizon sends you your phone back cause you messed with it, there is a brick repair service for like $60 bucks PM for the link if it comes to that.

hehe.. I can't say I was pleased with having to go that route, (can't stand being defeated by electronics) but all in all I can't imagine a simple software change causing the entire unit to just go dead. Not booting properly, or locking up and such, sure... but not just dead.
By this morning I had tried another battery (a friend has an SG3 also) to no effect, but I didn't try leaving it plugged in overnight. I did check the battery with an external charger I have and it was showing fully charged....
So, I'll get a replacement and stay away from CM10 at the very least.

Ok, so the new phone got here at about 12:30. Plugged all my stuff into it and it fired right up.
Rooted and unlocked it, put my latest Synergy backup (1 day old) on the SD card and restored it.
Ahhhh... It's just like it never left. :victory:

Same thing happened to me when I tried to mess with the NFC hack on my SGS III.
What saved me was a USB Jig I happened to have handy when I...accidentally... soft bricked a friend's Samsung Captivate a few months back. The USB Jig is used to put the SGS III into download mode when all else fails that tiny little gadget saves the day.

I have looked into those and will most likely make one very soon. (I think I have everything I'd need, just may need to cobble some resistors together).
Couple of things I noticed throughout this 'process', regarding the CM10 (9-15 nightly) ROM, NFC and google wallet....
At first install of CM10 I noticed that NFC was active and working normally. It could read my tags without issue. After Wallet was installed though, NFC disappeared. It wasn't just disabled, it simply wasn't there any more. It was after noticing this that I decided to reboot, at which point my original problem started.
The reboot never came close to completing though, it shut down before it actually made it to the 'boot' phase, as in, while it was shutting down.
The actual cause of the power off is still a mystery to me, as I can't see a simple app change causing hardware failure.

I told them what happened, just left out a few bits of info.
"I rebooted it, and it never came back on." and that was that.

Nice.
I should have gone that method, but ended up paying for the repair service from MobileTechVideos

A friend has the qhsusb-dload showing up as well.. phone won't turn on.. flashed a bad kernel or rom I forget which.. red light comes on.. that's it.. its a Verizon i535 .. tried the resistor jig and nothing happens.. any ideas to fix?

Guess he had aokp rom then flashed neak kernel and that's when it died..
