GB question - Samsung Infuse 4G

I want to install the latest version of GB on my phone, I dont want any special themes. That being said. Is CM7 any good for the infuse? or should I go with basic UCKK4? If you have anything that will work smoother on the infuse please let me know
keep in mind I dont want to lack stability

KL2 is the latest and most stable stock rom. MIUI is good as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

cm7 and miui have the same issue. the Bluetooth audio doesn't work and the HDMI doesn't work. not sure about audio over USB. otherwise they are complete. the Bluetooth may not be fixable. blame Samsung/broadcom. there simply isn't anything to work with to make it work, no opensource drivers, no documentation.
kl2 is great but to make video work with a custom kernel you need to pull older libs but its doable. other issues with custom kernels apply such as sdcard mounting, wifi, and HDMI support. everything but HDMI has workarounds or clean fixes.

Zeus build 5 has a stock look and a lot of functionality. Runs really smooth.. Pretty simple decision if you ask me.

[Q] Best ROM for the MT.

I'm coming from LG Revolution land and my girlfriend has the MT. She wants her phone to be like mine and be able to tether, get rid of the dumb VM boot animation (and the power off animation if possible), and have a different theme more like mine which is kindof like GB but at the same time completely different. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me.
Also, I'm a major fan of the thanks button and I hit it everytime someone helps me out.
Let's see...
PunkROM has a couple extra themed apps and in some respects looks more like Gingerbread and sometimes a little different; it's also been out longer than mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262589
I built Black Lightning off Gingerbread (and PunkROM!) as a base, and integrated the safest and most stable-looking mods. So it's minimal, but theoretically powerful too if it needs to be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281340
Princely ROM has a Gingerbread-themed version. I can't say much about it because I haven't used it (much) and remember even less.

Hey thanks. Sorry about the wait on the reply. I don't check the mt forum very often. I'll probably be doing this tomorrow so be ready for some questions lol. Also, what is the most updated version of cwm for this phone?

Just downloaded it. Thanks. Will have to wait to put it on the phone though.
I just installed CM7 and its amazing, I cant believe how functional it is already. Pretty much everything works.
MIUI is the best

I've tried them all except for punk and its come down to bouncing back and forth between cm7 and miui. why would you settle for froyo when gingerbread is so stable now? For a minute miui was the best but now that the beta cm7 are fully functional and butter smooth I am finding myself less inclined to flash and that is amazing! Ruined my Samsung captivate while I was still learning, be very careful going back to froyo roms from gingerbread on that one. Darkys killed it! My Triumph however seems unbrickable and is overclocked and stable. The stock rom was a joke and I got rid of that clumsy bastard the third day. Thanx to all the devs for working hard and kikin ass!

In CM7 - You don't--at this time anyways--unless you don't mind certain things not working since the only kernel is old and outdated at this time or unless you build your own OC kernel for CM7.
There's a couple of OC kernels available for FROYO roms atm. Just check the Dev section.

CM7 or MIUI are good ROMs, now they have worked out most of the bugs for this phone besides HDMI and something with camera mirror.
I switched over from the Optimus V and I have a gtablet, im really pleased by CM7 on this phone. I haven't had any problems at all, and the battery life with the last two releases on CM7 is great.
I will try the MIUI ROM as well though, I just chose CM7 because I have had prior experience with it.
I've never had any problems with my phone on the stock-ish ROM, but then again even on my desktop Skype appears to be mirrored (although the other side is okay)... from what I've heard, this is the way desktop Skype works.

I believe the HDMI and Mirroring problem are the custom ROM bugs, but I didn't stay on stock ROM longer then one day to find out how it was.
I am used to rooting and custom ROM's now, for me it's interesting to try different things out customizing my phone.
Edit: sorry for the confusion if I implied that HDMI and Mirroring on the camera are stock ROM bugs.
I'm refusing to switch to the Gingerbread Cyanogen mod simply because it doesn't have hdmi output. Even though I can't use the HDMI output anyway. There's probably a pill to alleviate that.

I'm refusing until you can use wifi with bluetooth, and the niggling audio bugs I keep reading about go away.
I hear that the gingerbread development is winding down now, so we may just be stuck with current cm7 and miui for a while...without fixes.
If I could just figure out what is killing battery so much faster than my optimus V, I'd be happy....
b_randon15 has a newer cm7 kernel that he claims takes care of the wifi/bluetooth issue. I'd give it a try, but I cant get clockwork to work!

That is really hard to say. It depends on what you're looking for.
The lastest stock leak is uckl2. Stable. Everything works.
victory, numas, catyrom and bionix are very good roms to try. numas, caty and bionix has added scripts that makes them appear smoother.
If you like the ports, try darky, doctorz and others.
i personally have no experience with miui and some of the olders one like s7 or infused's
I suggest trying the caty 2.0

The rom that runs the fastest and most stable for ME is MIUI.
To each his own. .
I run mine at 1.4ghz and underclocked 75.
that's like asking what's the best icecream flavor. everyone has a different answer.
but if we had some flavors of icecream sadwhich that answer would be even more complicated.
there are two rom groups. aosp and Samsung based.
aosp is cm7 and miui. they run ext4 file system. have slightly less 3d performance, are overclockable and benchmark very well. Bluetooth uses a different stack that handles more protocols and is compatible with comon game controllers like the Wii mote but Bluetooth audio is broken. HDMI also doesn't have support.
Samsung roms come for Rogers and att. either phone can run either rom. same frequencies just different apn. the Rogers phone has 2.3.3 and no HDMI support. the att phone has 2.2.1 but also has many leaked firmwares that are 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 but no source code for the leaks. a purely att rom has the advantage of the fact that everything works. but the disadvantage of either running froyo or not having a kernel with cwm or voodoo lagfix or init.d support or other things that get baked into custom kernels. running a custom kernel on a current att leak will break wifi if you wipe data, break the external sdcard (unless you fix vold.fstab) break HDMI and break video playback. the sdcard and wifi can be fixed and are done automatically in the latest entropy DD kernel. the video playback is also only broken on the more current leaks. kj4 was fine with video on custom kernels. Bluetooth is bt3.0 but doesn't support as many devices as aosp.
every rom has a compromise but it may not be a compromise for you. do you use HDMI? do you use Bluetooth audio? do you want to do gaming with a game controller? I personally like the rom leaks as is but can use themeing. I like bionix. many swear by miui. you figure it out.
I can say that I am having a great experience with the 'Infused' rom for Gingerbread. Everything seems to work just fine.
Have ran across a few minor things...sometimes when I put my i997 in the car dock, it locks up for a moment then powers off. The cold battery charge graphic comes up. I can power it right back on and keep on trucking. It doesn't happen all the time, so I suspect it'll be related to something like a tasker script.
I give it 99.8% out of 100 for now.

The best ROM for my Infuse?

I'm looking for a good stable FAST rom. Only main things that have to work is Wifi / Bluetooth / 720p recording / All camera stuff. ( I will give up the camera stuff for a huge performance increase if need be. From GB to ICS)
Thats it, I'd prefer a ICS ROM but I can't find ANY of them that doesn't have at least a few bugs with the camera. I would also like a OC'd Kernel. I'd be mostly using the phone for Gaming. and stuff like that...Right now I'm running ZEUS. Im about to flash with AEON 1.4 right now...
Let me know if anyone has a suggestion, And sorry if this is in the wrong section...
If camera is an issue for you, stay on gingerbread.

The best ROM really depends on individual user preference; however, I have used various GB, ICS, and JB ROMs and my favorite and the one I'm using now is CypherROM Build 2.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Personal preference really. If you want GB stability, I would suggest trying Mind of Mac v1.4. If you want JB, I have run the unofficial CM10 4.1.1 which was really good. Now I'm on ParanoidAndroid 2.12, which, for me, is the best I have used. Try different ones, find out which one you like and suits your needs. I think for your requirements, I would stay with GB. Going from GB to JB requires some extra steps also. Have fun!

I agree with what Trickster03 said, but on Paranoid Android I flashed UCKL2 and the wifi speeds are wonderful, for the recording, youll need to stay on stock

Thinking of re-Flashing but is it worth it?

Hey all...
My original Infuse had to be sent back to the Warranty dep because of the micro usb issues a lot of people had...it had Zeus v6 which I did love however I had to figure out how to hard brick it because I couldn't go back to stock....
So here I am with my new (Most likely refurbished) Infuse and it actually came pre-loaded with Gingerbread (Holy crap right?) and it seems to run well...in fact better than Zeus did....my battery life is better although it still sucks....it hasn't crashed yet so so far no known issues....
However, I miss the extra features Rooting/Flashing can do whether they're just for fun or not....but I'm worried I'm going to have the same USB issue right and never get back to stock again if something dire goes wrong....I almost felt like flashing caused the problem because it happened the same week....
So here's my question...
A lot of these new ICS/JB Roms are obviously ports of one another which is cool but everywhere I look they all seem to have the same issues with BT not working...wifi issues...signal issues and videocamera issues....I realize people have fixes with these with different kernels etc....but is there a more stable ROM than others? I used to have CM7 before Zeus and it was really slick and stable however I hated that it was missing some TouchWiz features that love and Zeus kept them....But when it comes to ICS I do like that "Vanilla" look because it doesn't really seem stock Samsung phones have it because of Touchwiz...
So what's the most stable ROM most of you know works best...
What's the flashiest ROM (all the bells and whistles)
And do any of them incorporate some TouchWiz features like swiping right or left on contacts for calling or messaging..(I don't know why I just love that feature)
So far from the looks like the updated Unofficial CM10 is the way to go....anyone want to steer me clear from this?
The only issue at the moment with ics/jb is 720p recording. Everything else is running completely fine.
Most of the jb roms are really smooth and stable. Try a few of them out and stick with the one you prefer.

Great post from andros here. No one can really make up your mind on what ROM to go with as some may have features you don't want, like, or need and/or is missing features you want/need. The most anybody can really do is throw a few recommendations out there (which i will do) but the rest is up to you.
Some ROMs i would personally recommend would first of all be andros's LiquidSmooth (click picture in my sig).
Some others from the JellyBean line-up would be RemICS-JB, SlimBean, and the unofficial CM10.
The only ICS ROM i have used is RemICS (not the same as RemICS-JB) so can't give any recommendations there (same goes for GB ROMs).
Those are the ROMs i have personally tried and are in my opinion the best 4.x ROMs for the infuse. But like i said earlier, it's your decision which one to go with. Research each ROM's features list, bug list, and update intervals to see which one is best for you.
-DD
You listed bt first so I assuming that is important. I'm using liquid smooth and it works flawlessly with bt. And battery life is great
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I checked out that video of Liquid Smooth and it looks very promising.....on the video he said that everything on the camera works....is the 720p issue have to do with crappy resolution or the video and audio not matching up? Because the video/audio is what I had issues with on CM7....
The guy on the video is using an sg3. The video is mostly for people to see how it looks, its features and functionality.
Our only issue with our Infuse is choppy 720p recording.
Sent from my LiquidSmooth Infuse
If you are going to upgrade past GB I recommend skipping ICS. To my knowledge development on ICS has stopped for the infuse. I could be wrong but last I checked most of the ICS ROMs are still less functional than the jellybean ROMs.
I've tried most of the jb ROMs and from my own experiences, Slim, liquid, and Paranoid are the best. I haven't tried remics or miui though.
Flash one of them and you should be happy. And actually I have the 4.2 camera and took a video at a wedding (in low light) and it was the best video I've taken since stock.
Again it's all personal preference. But stability wise I think jb is pretty awesome.

Most stable ROM?

I got myself the Nexus 4 and I've given my SGS4G to my mom and put it back to stock. She's happy with the stock ROM with root, but would like better battery life. Now being less into modding she isn't as tolerant of bugs as I was when I had the phone. So I was wondering what your personal opinions are on what was the most stable bug-free rom you can remember? Doesn't have to be ICS. It would also be nice if battery life was better than stock (I think almost all roms I had were). I can remember there being a few roms I have flashed in the past where I never ran into a bug, I just can't remember what they were. Thoughts?
Barebones paired with the Kernel with a twist. It's GB, which means she can get wifi-calling (think that the twist still allowed that) and other nifty things that T-Mo originally offered, but with most of the junk ripped out. Stable (as any GB goes... thanks T-Mo for the buggy stock kernel without full source) and a good base.
From what I know the wi-fi calling is embedded and not an APK. If you install it will just fail.
I use the Team Acid CM9 unofficial port. Everything works except video player.
For everyday user sticking to stock From would be best. You should unlock it and de-bloat for better performance.

Cm9 video works with release 8 for the video. Im pretty saddened that the next two releases after 8 they are using as a primary because of updated kernel. Like im sorry people want video recording and playback. So if they cant make the kernel fix to implement that, they should wait or not bother. Why fix if not broken, better yet why break it. I say barebones is the most stable. I do not believe contrary to some devs that stock has the reboot issue, i just dont. I think its the custom kernels. There may be however a libk between the battery and the reboot. For heavens sake if u have battery problems order a new one from amazon. Its ten bucks and makes a world of difference. You will see those reboots disappear for the most part

Development is good. If you don't want developers to work on bugs, don't flash their stuff. Or leave. But don't tell them to stop trying out different things to work on bugs just because you don't like it.
Unless you're the developer, and you're telling yourself to knock it off. But otherwise, let the talent work.
And if you aren't a developer, stop trying to tell them that they're wrong just because your anecdotal experiences don't match what they know about the code.
Barebones and Basic with a twist ...
To me has the most working features
and is the most stable of all the ROMs..
I have went back to it more times.
O and WiFi Calling is if I remember a system app in barebones .its tutorial is one of the first notifications that comes up on first boot and it works great. You can almost get 2 days of battery life on 1 charge and use the phone.
GPS locks in under 10 seconds if you flash the GPS patch and even video works...lol..maybe even TV OUT works...lol
