Music starting when I turn off bluetooth - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So no matter what application I'm using on my Radar and how I exit the app, i.e., just pause, back all the way out, etc. the music starts playing again when I turn off my BT headset. I've tried looking through settings to no avail.

bump........

That's odd. Music should automatically stop playing when your bluetooth device is shutoff.
It should not automatically start.
Please describe every detail of what you are doing, connected to, etc. Order and timing might be important.

Starting with phone idle
Turn on Bluetooth headset
Verify it is connected in Settings
Back out and go to a streaming app (has occurred in slacker and metroradio)
Stream music for any given amount of time
Either pause music, pause and back all the way out, just back all the way out, etc.
Shut screen/put in pocket
Turn off bluetooth headset
Music starts playing from phone speaker

Bump - happened again tonight. This time I paused from the lock screen just to test. Paused -> Screen Off -> BT off -> 10 seconds later, music starts

does it happen if you shut bluetooth off before shutting screen off?

Does it happen with Zune as music player ? Also does these apps have any settings for this kind of situation.

I don't use Zune. The only setting in Slacker is if I want Radio to resume automatically when Bluetooth is connected and that is turned off. Metro has nothing.

BUMP.........

You need the app "Stop the Music!

I had the same problem on my Lumia 800 today.. so awkward.....
I was at work and use a Logitech bluetooth docking station, playing music was fine, no problem at all.. I work a shoppingmall and while on my break I went in the another store just next to mine. A really hot girl works there and this lyrics came on highest volume:
"I'm fat, I'm Single, I'm ready to mingle"
here's a youtube link... Never been so embarrassed in my life, I managed to save my ass but only just! A fix would be superb!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpJooV7RrMk

I've had the same issue with the background audio from Podcasts! Pro. It doesn't do this with Zune. I'm guessing its an issue with the way the background api is being implemented.
Another thing i've noticed, when it switches to or from BT, the audio picks up from the last point before BT is connected. Example, if I'm listening to an hour long podcast, and I get 23 minutes into it before switching to BT, even when I listen to another 20 minutes of the podcast, it will revert back to the 23min point once BT is disconnected.

Same issue here
Hi,
I'm having the same issue here with a Mercedes B180 built in Handsfree and Lumia 800.
It happens with Wimp, not Spotify.
As a matter of fact music Streaming is not working at all from any app to this HF.
However: BT with my combination is ok for Contact Transfer and Phone functions so it's not a catastrophy, but....
One other thing: When turning ignition off, ongoing calls are disrupted and not returned to the handset...
Nokia Support said that this is a issue caused by them using the Microsoft BT Stack for Music Streaming while probably Mercedes is using some other (Widcomm, Toshiba...)
BTW: I've used iPhone in this scenario and it works fine with all functions.

[FIX] A2DP skipping... kinda

Let me start off by saying this is more of a workaround than a fix. I have been hoping that the release of Donut may have fixed the A2DP skipping problem but until late I had rendered my Plantronics Voyager 855 useless for listening to music. I could not listen to anything with out i skipping so bad that it would have been better to turn off bluetooth and hold the phone to my head to listen to media. I have found a fix that may hopefully lead to someone figuring out what is actually wrong.
Step 1: turn off bluetooth and unpair your headset
Step 2: start a song on a media player
Step 3: go back turn bluetooth on and pair your headset
you may or may not have to unpair your headset sometimes it works if you just turn bluetooth off start a song and then go turn it back on again
Once it connects your media will start playing perfectly through the headset for as long as the media is playing. Unfortunately once you stop playing media for more than a few minutes and then try to start it again the skipping will also start again.
Have you also tried using a task manager to kill everything BEFORE you start the music player? That works 60% of the time for me.
Another solution that generally works the other 40% of the time is to go into your bluetooth settings, press and hold on your BT device, at menu pop-up, touch "Options" then just unlink the Media, and then re-link it.
Hope this saves you some time in the future!

its funny that unlinking media works for you because i tried that and it does nothing for me. The fastest way i can get it to work is turning bluetooth of and back on again.
I'm having the same problems with my JVC car stereo.. It skips pops etc.. with no way to fix.. i'll try this work around tomorrow but does anyone know what causes this?
I see one of you is running latest Cyanogenmod. I'm not sure what the issue is you are having with A2DP maybe your paired hardware? i typically have Pandora streaming to my car stereo in the background with Telenav running.
EDIT: I use Tunewiki instead of Music player if that makes a difference.
Well actually it does happen in CyanogenMod although its not a skipping issue... Its more of a faint popping issue that I get.
I dont hear it using the aux headphone jack on my htc adapter but i do when i switch over to bluetooth.
Right now i'm running Enomther's ASOP+ADP rom because CyanogenMod has been having freezing and rebooting issues (thanks to the switchrom script for letting me switch back and forth) and this is where i'm really getting a skipping and popping issue big time.
For both I use Tunewiki as well, for m4a's that i buy on iTunes or SHOUTcast radio (gotta love internet radio on the go...)
I thought it was because I was running Google Maps as well as tunewiki (I have a car GPS mount) but even just letting it run only Tunewiki it still has issues (although far worse at times running Google Maps)
I just can't seem to pinpoint the issue.. I could just use the aux headphone jack to my car stereo yes, but then since I have the charger connected I get the annoying ground loop noise which is far worse than the bluetooth popping and skipping issue...
EDIT: This is my Car Stereo: JVC KD-A805

Those workarounds don't work for me. It is good to know this issue is known though and is being reported by more than one.
My Tunewiki still skips either way.. even turing off most background apps do not help.. I was looking into editing the audiopara4.csv file possibly (someone apparently added a line for his BMW and it fixed his issue) but don't know where to start.

After intense observation, I realized I experience the skipping only after I place a call. The following two steps always work for me ( I prefer #2)
1. Turn of bluetooth and turn in it back on while the music is playing
2. In bluetooth settings unlink the phone and thats it; you might have to turn off bt and back on and it works until you use the bt for phone again
I also noticed that the skipping is not ROM specific with me; I tried it when my G1 was unrooted, thru XROM. I'm not sure what causes the skipping, I experience no skipping with my S9 (works flawlessly), however my Jabra BT3030 is what gives me all the grief (better headset IMHO)
Just found a really easy way to get a2dp to work perfectly. Once you have what ever you want playing just make a call to your voice mail, once the call gets transfered to your headset hang up and what ever you are playing will play perfect through the headset.
eclair rom.
bluetooth works perfectly on them.

Bluetooth since 2.3

Since the update, my Inspire locks up upon first use after connecting to my car. Reboots, then its ok. Anyone else experience anything like this and have any tips to correct it?
stupid thanks button.....
i havent had any problems with 2.3 and bluetooth. mine doesnt lock up when it connects to my car
Same
I have to force stop the Music app (poweramp). tried factory reset but no real difference. Also on the sony mex bt3800 I have, it will display icons for streaming and calls, well sometimes (of course) only one of those will turn on. Re-paired still doing it. grrrr.

I have the Mex-bt2800. You can turn the music streaming on by pressing the pause/play button when it's it bluetooth audio mode.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side
Yeah, you'd like to think so, hit the arrow for play on poweramp right?
Well not quite as, if you start the car first then switch bluetooth on (you know powersaving) the message will display that the headset connected message then on the stereo , mostly, only the icon for media streaming will appear and the only reliable way to have both streaming and calls is to switch off bluetooth on the car stereo then switching it on again.
Froyo connected all time without issue and so did the 3GS i had previously.
The poweramp issue came about if you already had music playing through the internal speaker, started bluetooth, (you get the streaming media Icon on stereo) , then there would be no sound and poweramp would act if it had paused but no other button would work until it had been force stop. have only found time for a liittle bit of testing so can't tell much more about symptoms.
any other suggestions welcome
Hey there, I haven't had any issues with my BT either. I've used Ninja, Gingerbeast, and ARHD. I'm using it with the mex-bt3900 (i think thats right). i use it with the htc music app, google music app, pandora, and winamp. i havent had any lockups or anything on my end. what rom are you using? stock rom?

Still stock. Might root and see if those other roms make a difference. Saw comment on ace root kit thread about something new coming out on that so may put up it until what ever it is announced. Be nice to get rid of the att bloat too.

[Q] Help me switch to WP7!

So I got my hands on a Samsung Focus and decided to give WP7 a shot. Much to my surprise, I can't put the phone down. I've gone so far as to pull the SIM from my Galaxy Nexus and started using the Focus as my daily driver.
However, as with anything I have a few gripes (which I hope have resolutions). Any help would be appreciated!
Streaming music is dodgy at best. I've used wpFandora, Metro Radio, and Zune Pass and with all of them I get constant drops, song skips due to buffering problems, etc. I don't have these problems on Android or iOS devices. So, is this inherent to WP7 or maybe just the Focus?
Is there any way to prevent screen time out in music apps? I use my phone while driving, and having to wake it and unlock it to change media is troublesome and dangerous.
Bluetooth. When paired to a BT headset, there's no ringtone played on the headset. If I'm listening to music and the phone rings, it mutes the music (but doesn't appear to PAUSE) and that's it. The only ring is from the phone itself, nothing over BT
Really, that's it for me. I really hope these are fixable and/or device specific because I'm salivating to pick up a Lumia 900 once its available!
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Not sure I can help you with the first. I use T-Mobile, so my coverage is poorer than your but my network less saturated, and I almost never have trouple with streaming Zune Pass.
Press the Volume rocker once, either up or down, while at the lock screen. This will show the media controls, and allow you to pause or skip music (and change volume, of course). True apps can also disable the screen time-out (I don't think there's an option in the built-in player), though the effect on battery will be significant.
It takes the phone a second (literally, as in about 1000 ms) to sync to the headset when a call comes in. After that, the headset will either play the ringtone or text-to-speech the caller, depending on the headset and the settings on the phone. Also, on music playback that supports Pause (i.e. Zune Pass streaming, but not radio), the phone will pause music playback when a call arrives.
HTC HD7, build 7720 (quite out of date, by intention; your Focus should be on a newer version). It's possible the problems you are having are Focus specific. For example, there used to be a really bad bug where the Focus would vary the Bluetooth volume continuously while on a call, making it sometimes impossible to hear. I thought they fixed that though...
definately make sure that focus has all the updates installed (including firmware)
Also since you like streaming - check out tune in radio. it finds all the local stations around here and even tells you when shows are on like bob and tom.
Granted, if you have a headset plugged in you can also use the fm radio.
Streaming is normally not a problem at all. Might be the network towers you are on, but then other phones on att / verizon or whatever should have the same issue.
update all your focues firmware to get best experience out of it

[Q] Play Music + Bluetooth = Autoplay?

I'm not sure whether or not this has to do with the rom I am using (Tweaked 3.1) but i've noticed that every single time i'm in my car and turn on the bluetooth...my music just starts automatically playing from Play Music. It was opened in the background or anything either...as soon as bluetooth gets turned on it just starts which is really annoying if actually want to talk to people with my phone...I looked through all the settings for play music, bluetooth, android, tweaked and everywhere on my phone but couldnt figure out for the life of me how to disable that from happening. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

do you want it NOT play at all, or just not autoplay? there is a setting within the bluetooth menu to disable media connection.
are you using an app for your bluetooth connection? for example, I use vlingo, and each time my phone connects via bluetooth, that app is set by default to launch.
Just dont want it to automatically start playing when I turn on bluetooth. I use HeyTell a lot for talking to people so id rather manually open Play Music and start playing songs myself if so desire later on. I figured there has to be an autostart option somewhere but i cant find it. I actually also cannot find that setting to disable the media connection in a bluetooth menu...where might that be?
Not using an app for bluetooth, just turning it on through the settings in Android on my Charge. Not sure if it makes a difference that im rooted using Tweaked 3.1?

first, I would try clearing defaults in Play Music.
secondly, to adjust the media output, once you have a bluetooth connection, go into your bluetooth settings and long press your paired device - then select options - from there you can adjust the media connection.
as for me, I leave BT on all the time (doesn't cause significant battery drain while being on an unpaired in my experience).
Cleared the defaults in Play Music and checked the settings when i long pressed on my paired Mazda. I tried just turning off the media connection but then I couldnt do the other things I wanted. I didnt see any other settings for it either anywhere. I'm wondering if it has to do with my Mazda auto starting the music maybe? Or is that not possible... I suppose I can just try leaving bluetooth on if theres not going to be much battery drain...but lately ive experiencing lots of battery drain about 6-7% an hour without me even touching it.

What about the in-car app? Otherwise, try downloading a Bluetooth app like vlingo (free). And then see what happens when the phone makes the connection to your car. You should get one of those default app menus.
tappin' that....
Cool I will give that a try, thanks for the help!

Google Music issues (I THINK this is a One issue)

I remember reading a while back that Google Music had added gapless playback support, but it's not working for me (either on my phone or computer, actually). All the digging I've done says if you enable the equalizer it will be fixed, but I can't figure out how to do that at all. Can anyone tell me?
Reference:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/android-apps/222604-gapless-playback-music-google-play.html

It's also started playing music when it connects to my car stereo much less reliably. I used to get in and a few seconds later I was streaming music. Now, BT connects and a lot of the time it never plays a song at all, other times it will automatically take one but take as long as 5 minutes, and occasionally it will immediately start playing. What's going on here and how do I make it work the way it should?
