Map hard buttons to screen presses? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is there any way to map for example the volume up button to a screen press? For example, with the sixaxis app you can map the buttons on a ps3 controller to a screen press. Well, what about the volume buttons on the phone?

Modify action of buttons?

There is this app for ipod which lets me bind lots of controls to different buttons. For instance, when I hold the volume up key, the device plays the next song. Or when I hold the power key, it toggles rotation on or off.
Now I'm wondering if there is such an app for android, especially to control the music app (previous/next song, pause, play, ..) with hardware keys.

The app for iPod is called Activator.

Is there an app that does key remapping and shortcuts?

You know, like Samsung Galaxy SII can take a screenshot by clicking two buttons at the same time.
Is there an app that can trigger events by pressing combinations of buttons?
Or how about an app that can remap keys? For example, making the volume key do what the Home key is supposed to do?
Here you go. Just found it only moments after reading your post.
Looks pretty freaking handy.

Thanks!
Can it also define button combinations (a-la taking a screenshot in SGS II)?

[Q] Is there an app that does this?

I have been using WiiMote controller to map keys for the wii classic controller. I tried for minecraft but no keys at all would do anything. I was wondering if there is a app that can map buttons on the controller to taps on the screen. For example if i press up it will act as if the screen was touched. i was wondering if this exists.

Home Button as Camera Shutter Button?

We all know you can use the power button to take a picture in most custom roms, but with the s3 being such a large phone it's sometimes hard to hit the power button and tap to focus using just one hand. So how would one go about mapping the physical home button as the camera shutter button? Thanks for your input.
Anyone?
You can enable the onscreen buttons then remap the home key to start the camera and act as the shutter button when in the app. Also some camera apps allow you to select any pod the physical buttons as a shutter key.

Thanks for your reply but I'm looking for a way to map the physical home button as the camera shutter button. Using an on screen button would be the same as just hitting the camera shutter button on the camera app.
I'm in no way a developer but I feel like it would be as simple as changing the code in the camera apk to make the physical home button take a picture rather than the power button. Can anyone confirm this?
Bump
I knowfor HTC phone they make MOD for vol up for vol down to act as shutter button, I wonder if that would be able to be ported over number one, and if so if able to change the vol up/vol down to home button for shutter.

this method isn't the best though, it pretty much renders the volume button worthless IIRC even when not using camera app, i do remember i coded it into the camera app one time for HTC, maybe i can dig that up

Need help with button remapping.

Is there any way I can simply map the power button as volume up and volume up button as power button throughout the OS? I am running CM10.1.

Just get button remapper from the market or from the forums. I remapped my volume - to power and power to camera focus (because the button is faulty )
Thanks that app works great.
