Now that Sprint has updated the stock ROM to android 2.3.5, I'm looking to use Google Video Chat.
My understanding is that Sprint disabled the video chat capability, as I think they did with the 3D, but that was "fixable" with the addition of a couple of files and and some changed permissions.
Anyone able to do the same for the 4G yet?

There is a thread over on the 3d forums on how to do this, as long as you have a nandroid why not try it out on the 4g and see if it works?

I just tried it with my wife's phone and it didn't work but it could be the rom too. I'll try with another rom and if it works I'll link the thread in here.

Can't see that happening with Captivate's processor, despite the fact that they are used in other handsets; we don't seem to have the wherewithal to satisfy Netfix's DRM scheme.
I would love it if someone would post a link to the .apk to be able to 'test' compatibility...
Just go to the web market, it's there.
the web market shows it grayed out for both my xoom and my captivate.

I have the apk from a while ago, march 11th I believe... it works, but playback fails saying it's an unsupported device.
Gotta be a way to spoof it!
I downloaded the app in the "Themes and Apps" section. Its running great under Perception II beta 3.
It runs under continiuum 5.4 without a problem.
Fr3edom1.
just downloaded it from the themes and apps forum thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076171
works great on MikeyMike01's GR-12 with TalonDev kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055622
Yup its working on the captivate much to my delight.

I could be wrong but I think that is because CM7 is not a JVB or JVH official samsung code release. Those of us running actual Samsung code look like Nexus S devices to the netflix app.
Sweet, the apk I had was old! I am running the new one streaming Netflix w/ Subpression 3.2!

Thanks, that did it!
However now all the apps think I'm on a G2. And swype won't work.
Could someone that's on a 2.3 Samsung rom with netflix working post their build.prop file?
Thanks again.
It seems that GB roms running as a nexus s in the build.prop can access playback. Anybody got a quick way to edit that file and directions on what to change for people with cyanogenmod?
EDIT: Doh, I'm an idiot. I should read the full thread before commenting. Thanks guys.
I tried it on cm7 with the build.prop spoofed to look like an HTC Vision and when it plays a video, there is no image, just sound. Any ideas?

Same.
My guess is that it is because CM lacks all of the codecs which you get with the official samsung roms.
I sideloaded it but it doesn't work on stock froyo. Another checkmark on the list to update to Continuum...

Finally Skype has developed a version for us EVO users. It is supposed to allow to way video calling via 3g and WiFi, although I still don't understand why they don't make it work with 4G as well. In the meantime I plan to test out the quality of the app, and the the quality of the video as well.
Please leave the following details so as to help others who have problems with similar setups.
Hardware Version : 003
ROM : Synergy ROM RC2
Software : 4.24.651.1

Nice! Tried it out. Unfortunately only my back camera works when on video call:/ front camera is all static green screen lines.
I have the same problem. Which rom are you running? I'm willing to bet this is an aosp only issue. I'm on decks 1.2.

wow, thats for that heads up. Works great
thanks* haha
Works well... running Synergy.
I just got skype from the market to stop telling me to "please re-install skype", and set up a video call between my two skype accounts, but my phone couldn't see the video from my PC nor the video from the phone (front or rear camera), and the PC couldn't see the video from the phone. I'm on CM7.1 RC1.

I've searched the forums, google etc and can't see an answer to this. I've updated my ROM to the latest from Virtuous Unity running sense 3.0 and android 2.3.4 but when i try and do a video call, either with google chat, or Skype, my image always comes out sideways to me, and to the other person, no matter which way i turn my phone.
Any ideas why? Is there a solution? Tried a couple of other ROMs but same issue.
Any help would be appreciated

Is your mirror app unsidedown when you turn your phone to landscape?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
also for me, i can video call with skype without a problem
Yeh so can I. But test your mirror app. What kernel are you on
using 'My Mirror' from the market, no problems in landscape mode.
Kernel is v9.
I'm a bit of a noob with all this flashing lark, i rooted the phone and installed the 2.39 virtuous rom, so no idea if that changed the kernel to the one that the phone came with. How do I know?
Installed latest Skype and you are right video is now correct, but still sideways on google talk which i use more and prefer. So guess it's a google thing?
Alright, so i was sifting through other threads on other phones and saw that the One X has 2-way recording enabled through a kernel mod and what not. In short, Id like to see if any of the kernels we have, have the feature enabled and if not if a developer would like to make it for us. I realize the legality issues of recording calls, I would just like the feature cause I record my calls with my loved ones.
Heres the link to the thread I found here for the One X

Thank you in advance! I love XDA, I finally switched to Cricket to T-Mobile and am loving my HTC One S
Kernel development pretty much just got started on the One S since the source code was just recently released. At some point in the future it will probably be an option, just keep an eye on the kernel threads in the android development section of this forum. When it's in a changelog you'll know you've got it.
Thanks a bunch Kinda figured that would be the answer, maybe soon. Id like to have that option. Gotta keep posting around and learn more about this forum. Ive been on prepaid for awhile, its kinda a big shift to come here, especially with HTC and their Sense modifications. All my previous phones have been Huawei. I definitely like the One S though, its a beast and all my phones previous to this suuucked in comparison.

The file posted here works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31216047&postcount=9
Also, I found that two way call recording worked fine w/ root but stock rom/kernel until the OTA. Then it stopped working. But the file from the link above seemed to fix the problem for me.

I don't know about Viper personally but the previous post suggests it works. I also use call recorder and it works...although i recently ran into a separate problem involving call recording in conjunction w/ wifi calling.
But you just take that file and replace the same file in /system/lib/ (and of course make a backup of the original)

Hello. There is a solution to the problem?
2-Way Recording for HTC One S
I have HTC One S US version from T-mobile, sure rooted, Android 4.0.4 and of course no application (I tried a lot of them) doesn't record opponent's voice on my phone.
So replacing libalsa-intf.so under \system\lib\ didn't resolve the problem.
But solution for HTC One X fixed this problem on my phone. I just installed Sound_Phone_Original_REC.zip from recovery mode and now it records both voices well, no noise. Only one weird thing after installing that phone rebooted two or three times and it took about 3 to 5 mins but now everything looks good. All others appl work without falling.
I use Auto Call Recorder application which is probably 2nd on search android market (red circle logo with green handset inside). Others probable also will work but I already tired testing them. As I get all of them use the same recording algorithm.
Does any AOSP ROM allow 2-way call recording?
On Sense Rom like Venom ot Trickdroid I can record a call hearing 2 voices.
Last time when I checked CM or AOKP ROMs I could only hear my voice.
So, has this option been implemented in new AOSP ROMs, or Kernels?
I ran across a youtube video that had GX2 running iphone 4s OS Flawlessly. Is there a mod download some where that anyone know's of? The youtube video did not have a link

if your phone is still new and stock i would take it back if its having those kinds of problems
but if you want a custom rom, then try CM7. you will need the baseband fix from the Domination thread and there is an issue with bluetooth not working with headsets
if you want to go with an ICS rom, wait a few more days and Genesis and Hellfire will be coming out with updated versions
