Cannot copy 4gb file to sd card - HTC Sensation

I am using a 16gb sd card in my Sensation. I tried copying a 4.3gb mkv video file to it. But I got an error saying 'file is too large for this file system'.
The card was previously used in my Desire. And when I rooted the phone I partitioned it and formatted it in FAT32 file system. I know FAT32 has a limitation of 4gb. So should I format my sd card in NTFS file system or is there any other solution?

i dont think you can any file bigger 3-4gb in micro sd even if its 64gb memory cqrd

wrong.
You just stated your error OP, it's because it's the FAT32 file system. You have to reformat it to NTFS to transfer files >4 gigs. I'm quite positive that there's no other way to solve the issue as of now

So if I format the card in the phone will it be formatted in NTFS system? Or should I format the card in my pc and then put it in the phone?

you should format it on PC. and choose format as NTFS

I'd do the same!

Has anyone tried this and had Android function as it's supposed to? I know Android formats by default to FAT32, would the system remain stable as NTFS?

Hi, SD card is formatted FAT32 and the formatting of the largest file that can be loaded is 4 GB. You have to split video file, either it or reformat the resolution of video for LG Optimus 3D(800x480) and reduce its size.

[Q] Ext SD card

I have a question regarding the external SD card. My applications wont run and it says error while launching application. And when I connect it via usb, the selection appears for kies, media, and mass storage. If i choose media, it will show on my computer, but if i choose mass storage, it just goes back to my home screen. I am really buffed because i can browse the contents of the SD card if i use the internal file manager.
I would appreciate the help...
Wipe cache + dalvic? Idk man. That's all I really got.

You could just get another copy of tb from the market... But wiping your caches(and fixing permissions) won't effect your sd card or any data on it.
The only time I had a issue like this required me to re-format my sd...
Were you using some sort of app 2 sd? Perhaps you put a partition on it? What rom? Help us help you

After formatting and returning the files back to SD card, the error still persist... Will this error disappear if i flash to GB?
Do you have the option of mounting/un-mounting your card or does it just say mount SD? If it only says mount SD then your card is gone.

it does have unmount option. I can also see the disk spaces and also i can browse the files with the stock file browser. Bt, im now running GB 2.3.6 and still I am experiencing the problem... formatting did not fix the problem...
When you formatted it on the PC was it set as primary?
Were you trying to update your ROM by saving your apps on the sd card then reloading them onto 2.3.6? I was wondering about doing this. Maybe gingerbread and froyo read apk's differently, and if they are already installed on sd card I could see problems arising. Never worked when I tried that with any windows formatting

My first hand experience yesterday was not very successul because my SD Card is acting strangely coz it did run some apps on the new rom and the others shows error while launching. I'm on the process of reflashing and i'll post update once i'm done and run some tests...

[Q] SNS Format?

This is weird but I am curious to ask. What happens if we format SNS(USB Storage Mode) with NTFS/FAT/exFAT file system?
You mean the SD card? Well its fat32 and fat32 is the only file system android can mount without root/auto mount apps

Ok thanks for early reply but what happens if we format with other file systems other than FAT32?
Android OS simply won't recognize or ?
If we format SNS with exFAT for instance again I formatted back to FAT32 is it ok?

Never heard of exFAT before so idk
If your using unsupported formats (NTFS) the nexus will refuse to acknowledge it unless you use a mount app (like drive mount) and it will be hard to mount it in recovery

Yeah your SD card has to be Fat32 so you didn't say the name for the ROM so im guessing your on a CM but anyways use this program then format to Fat32 then it should be there Or if that doesn't work then format it .

Yes. You can copy the files over to another computer, format the card in the phone, and then transfer the files back however. Of course those write speeds can be pretty slow, so expect it to take a while if you have a lot of information stored on the card.
OK well I am not sure how to change my SD card Ro Fat32.. And I went to settings to format it and it does nothing. Right now I'm on stock ROM. The content of the SD card comes up like pics and all but when I go into recovery it doesn't let me change over to the card to save or restore... Any ideas?
