[Q] Low Level Rooting Instructions - Motorola Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Xoom, MZ604 WiFi (rooted using Stachre's stock rooted ROM). I am interested in understanding exactly what procedures are required to accomplish root.
I would appreciate if anyone would either provide, or point me to low level rooting instructions using ADB for the Xoom. I would like to know exactly what programs (apps/bins) are required and the ADB commands.
Thank you in advance.

I've not tried it. But as many other posters have pointed out, you really need to start to try to understand and use adb, if you want to root your Xoom. There are a lot of things that you will want to do in the future that require it. And if you have a problem, adb is a life saver. Here's a link that will help you > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130996
All that video does is link to an outdated post right here on xda already.

Seriously this method cant be anymore than 5-10 min tops... Its very simple and minimal adb but believe me like the other poster has noted you will want to learn adb if you plan on rooting anything.... here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078019

[Q] Help with WiFi XOOM Root

I have a XOOM running the new 4.0.3, IML77, with kernel version 2.6.39.4-gf03a679, [email protected] #1.
I have rooted many devices in the past, including this same XOOM when it was on Honeycomb, have followed every guide I could find, but have, so far, been unsuccessful in rooting this thing.
Can someone point me to a step-by-step guide please?
also, when I'm, finally rooted, what is the easiest way to enable full SD CARD capabilities (read/write/etc)?
Thanks so much in advance.

[q] best beginner's method on rooting htc one s for those who never rooted a phone?

I have always wanted to work with my previous devices, but was always confused on the multiple methods on gaining root access. Can anyone please give me some sort of step by step guide or link to one pleace? Thnx
I used the All-In-One tool kit to unlock the bootloader, then used the one-click root method to root the device. It's pretty easy to do.
My best advice is to do what I and a lot have done. Read Read Read!!!
Study the different methods and Google any terminolgy, watch videos. I spent several weeks before I even bought my N1 over two years, which I intended to root right off. So, when I rooted, I needed no assistance until I started having to get more familiar with adb/fastboot commands. Highly recommend to install Android SDK if you haven't and learn it also. Much easier to get out of trouble, which we all get into, being able to use fastboot/adb.
I don't know your expertise level on these things, but if it low and just getting step by steps without understanding why will lead to many problems and make it very hard to get out of them.
That said i used this guide, but did know how to use fastboot etc:

There lots of web info on using sdk with fastboot/adb commands
Just make sure you have usb debugging checked on phone and fastboot unchecked
This worked best for me.

[Q] Rooting and Upgrades

I recently (within the last month or so) rooted my android device for the first time. I'm still kind of getting used to the new fun things I can do with it now. I'm now getting a consistent pop-up though asking me to upgrade to Android version 4.1.2, I'm currently on Android version 4.0.4. Before I do this I have a couple of questions for those of you out there with more experience and knowledge on this than me.
1) It is my understanding from reading some other posts that if I run the update through them it will overwrite my rooting, and I'll have to re-root the tablet. Is this correct?
2) Assuming that (#1) is correct, can anyone point me to a good, safe, place to download the update version 4.1.2, with steps for the proper way to run it without loosing your root access and all the data on your tablet?
Thank you in advance for any help. As I said I'm still learning a lot of this process at this point.
assuming you have a wifi only you can use this

as long as you still have or can reflash a custom recovery.
if you need one, TWRP link in my sig
I have a Version 4G XOOM, but I don't have a dataplan for it currently, so I am only using it in the WiFi version.
So the message is, don't use the standard upgrade; use an upgrade that you flash with similar steps to the rooting process (if I am reading that all correct). Thanks for the link and the information.

Well you can just take the update normally if it flashes (assuming you haven't edited anything in the system) then just re root.
You don't want to flash wingray on stingray (wingray is us wifi only stingray is the lte model)

[Completed] I bricked my Note 7 while trying to root it and I have no recovery. What can I do?

I tried everything to root my SM-N30F UD. I'm very new to rooting and it all seems extremely complex. Every tutorial I followed wasn't nearly specific enough and left out vital details. In light of all this, my device seems useless. I've tried whey root process imaginable. I just want my phone to be functional again if at all possible. I tried to restore it with Odin, but it keeps failing. I'm lost.
Can anyone give me a VERY DETAILED step by step (How To) walkthrough including the superfluous details that most people probably wouldn't need?
Thanks in advance.
